I stopped in to make an appointment for a balayage and haircut and they were able to get me in later that week with my preferred stylist. Everyone was very nice throughout the whole process. I was offered a drink multiple times through the service and I am in love with the results! Molly did a phenomenal job. I also love that the salon is chemical free, which keeps both you and your hairstylist healthy! Even with that, my hair did not take any longer to process than normal. I was trying to find a local neighborhood hair salon and I found Grow Salon. Right when I walked in, it was the cutest salon. They had a mini store section in the front with your normal shampoo and conditioners they sell but also some jewelry, fun accessories to buy. I thought this was a nice touch. My hair stylist was Jill. I didn't know her prior since I was new to the salon but I couldn't have been happier to be paired with her. She was so sweet, nailed exactly what I wanted, and made me look so new with my new do! A plus was a complimentary bang cut for the next visit. I definitely recommend coming here! Just a heads up, the cost of the hair cut or color is based on your length of your hair and the stylist. My hair was considered "long" and it was $97 without tip. Definitely way more than what I'm used to paying for a hair cut but that's the running average in the Seattle are. read more

Really wanted to love this salon because the stylists are so nice. To be honest, the quality of work doesn't match their extremely high prices and the way management handled an issue was unfortunately unethical. I've come many times for a simple gloss and cut and if that's the extent of what you're trying to do- I think you'd be content. If you're trying to do an intricate style I'd go elsewhere. I'm usually pretty simple with my look but I wanted to try the style that has chunky peekaboo highlights that's pretty popular right now. I made an appt- that was apparently too short for what I was trying to do- so I adjusted what I wanted to ensure we had enough time and figured I'd just come back to do the rest. I knew the part of my hair that wasn't virgin wouldn't bleach as well. A gf of mine that does hair in LA said there's a way to do two different tones to even that out- that wasn't the case for me though. But I wasn't alarmed. I knew there's only so much we could do with the first bleaching process and we were short on time. But what I wasn't okay with was how far down my hair, away from the root, she beached. I said something and she said the bleach would hurt the scalp and it would bleed upward anyways and not leave a big gap. I trusted what she said even though in all the years I've had my hair done they never started the dye so far from the root. When it was dry there was a huge gap dark section of hair before the bleached part. Already looked grown out after it was just done. She could have easily went higher. Then she said it was because she was short on time. Who knows what really happened. I showed her the sides of my hair where it looked like checkered or staircase design from the stark contrast and she agreed to FIX the hair - free of charge. So I came back at 10am- that's when I had made my appt. I noticed she was with another client still so I checked my screenshot of the appt. It said 10am. I was confused so I logged into the account to check there and it was changed to 10:45am. No one noticed me at all. That was upsetting. Didn't make an issue of it though. Left and came back. Then she said there wasn't enough time to Fully fix my hair -bleach & tone- so she just did a darker tone to try to blend it better. I made it clear I'd rather just fix it the right way. Even if I had to just come back. Didn't want to do a bunch of extra stuff to my already damaged hair. She said if it didn't work she would fix it right next time. I assumed that meant she would honor her promise to FIX my hair free of extra charge given I had already paid almost $500 for a botched hair style and tipped $50. But nope. Wasn't fixed and they expected me to come back and pay more. Who in the right mind would trust them after that? Not me. read more

I was so so happy to stumble upon Grow Salon and Kesli, the salon owner. I used to live in Los Angeles, and flew down to LA for my color sessions. I became a bit disenchanted with my colorist down there though, so decided to peek around Seattle to see if there was anything even remotely comparable. Fortunately I found Kesli! She does a beautiful job with my color, and I love that she does the majority of the work herself instead of outsourcing it to her assistants (as is frequently done in LA). My natural color is quite dark, but she has my color lifted beautifully. I also feel like the health of my hair has recovered quite substantially. One of the colorists in LA I used to see bleached my hair so much that it would break off when I got home. With Kesli though, even after a full color session, my hair still feels healthy and strong! Update to address the response from the owner: - Like I mentioned in my review clearly, certain "sections" of my hair are very bright. This was not visible to me at the salon because of the way they styled my hair. When I went home & combed my hair out, I noticed the monstrosity. - I am aware that coloring black hair is tricky. But I get my hair colored 2 times every year. And till date have never had such a bad experience. Stylists get it right in 1 attempt. - I stand by my review. My experience was not worth the price point of $347. Original review: I am disappointed with my experience at Grow Salon. Pros: was Easy to get an appointment. They are following COvid 19 precautions well. They do temperature checks for all customers. The stylists here are very friendly. Cons: I went to this salon to get a haircut & balayage. I asked for a subtle brown balayage on my black hair & showed the stylist a picture of what I wanted. But the balayage done for me was almost invisible. My hair did not show any color or texture. The stylist said that it would normalize after 2 hair washes. But even after a week and 4 washes there was no improvement. I called up Grow again & the stylist was apologetic and gave me an appointment for the same day. She did try to fix my hair but has now made a few sections of my hair golden blonde and way too loud for my liking. I am visiting another hair studio to get my hair fixed. Grow salon is a LOT more expensive than a few others in the Ballard area. I paid 347$ for this & I feel justice was not done at all for the exhorbitant price. Usually balayage + haircut costs me around 175 to 200 dollars at other places. I am not naming my stylist because I have seen her work on Instagram & her work does seem good. She was also friendly & very apologetic. But she couldn't get it right with my hair. I don't think I got what I paid for. read more

Often times salons have a daunting feel, and you can meet unsavory characters. I struggle with finding a place to call my, "hair home!" I've had a few, and now I can honestly say I am at home! I needed not only a stylist but a salon that had the right vibe. Luckily enough, I came across Grow Salon in Ballard and got paired up with Ashlee! She was able to correct my grow out with my inspiration photos. Love how my hair is seamless and has the fall goodness I was seeking. I appreciate that she could read her clients well, and wouldn't force conversation, yet was truly engaging when needed. (I'm not one that needs to chat the whole time!) This is a cute little salon in the Ballard area and my stylist was Sierra. I read a lot of great reviews about the salon and about Sierra. So I wanted to give her try for my first visit. So glad I did! Sierra is very sweet and knowledgeable about hair, and wanting to do a good job to assure her customer walks away happy. I came in with long, dark, and outgrown balayage that needed a lift of color and cut. I felt bad since I knew my hair will take up to 3 hrs or more to get through. I been to places where I felt rushed, but meeting with Sierra was the total opposite. She was so patient to hear what I wanted, took the time my hair needed to look amazing, and her prices were also reasonable. I completely trust her with my hair and would totally go to her again. I highly recommend going to Sierra if you need a balayage and cut! She is amazing and I also appreciated the welcoming staff there. I had never had my hair colored before, and after a bad experience out of state in early December, I came to Grow mid-January and had a full highlight appointment with Sierra. It was my third time coming to Grow (I had been previously for cuts and had a really good experience!.... I should have come to them for color in the first place.). They are an eco-friendly salon --- but you won't notice a difference in salon experience (besides some products used) from regular salons, and I do appreciate the focus on protecting the environment. The salon itself is very bright and clean and provides a very relaxing environment while still feeling comfortable. When I sat down with Sierra, we discussed what I wanted in the color. I didn't have a great understanding of what was possible, but I knew I wanted some blonde in my brown hair. I told Sierra that I trusted her opinion and experience on what would work on my hair. She ended up doing a balayage with some low lights and some statement strands in the front that were lighter than the rest. The time in the chair flew by! Sierra is really easy to talk with and made the process very enjoyable. As she blew my hair dry and styled it, she walked me through how to use a curling iron (I never had!) and I've since taken those tips into my daily routine with great success. I was super happy with how everything turned out, and the color has aged well over the past two months. I did go in for a gloss treatment after 6 weeks to give it a little more life (at Sierra's recommendation during the original appointment), and I plan to continue using Sierra and Grow in the future. read more

It had been 6 months since my last balayage, but the awesome stylist I went to before had moved out of state. Thankfully, I was placed in Jill's capable hands. She listened to my concerns about wanting to go more blonde, that I was recently more red. I was concerned with having brassy hair and wanting the color to complement my skin tone. I also was concerned with getting my hair trimmed because I was trying to grow out my hair from a drastic chin-length. Jill delivered tremendously and was so kind in calming my doubts. She even gave me great suggestions with upkeeping the color during my trip to Hawai'i and which products I should use. Highly recommend Molly!! (though I am sure others are good too.) I have bad hair. It's fine and fragile and although blond as a child, it's now a blah colorless shade. I'd never come away pleased the color before, but Molly got it just how I wanted it--very blond not yellow-ish. The salon itself is very nice and for those like me who have chemical sensitivities, it does not have chemical smells at all (because all natural stuff). Got my hair done, and ask for sun kissed... he did EXACTLY that! No blonde at all! Which is what I wanted! I moved to Seattle two years ago and hadn't found someone yet to color my hair. I'm always SO nervous when choosing a new hairstylist. I chose Grow because of their ecofriendly practices and then was blown away by their services. I showed some pictures to Vanessa for what I had in mind for my cut and color and she just knocked it out of the park. I'm naturally dark blonde and typically get a balayage treatment once a year to brighten it up for the summer. She chose the perfect coloring to make it look natural and will be easy to maintain as it grows out. I am so excited that I've found my Seattle hairstylist!!! As someone with "virgin Asian hair", I was really nervous about whether or not my hair would turn out brassy and difficult to maintain but the balayage was good and has grown out well. TLDR: No blowdry/styling during coronavirus/masks time, results in a not so good haircut for wavy hair. =/ But, appreciate the cleanliness and friendly staff. I needed a haircut badly after 9 months of not having one and decided to take a chance on Grown salon after reading many good reviews and also for the convenience factor of living close by. But, I was disappointed with my overall experience. I understand it is a weird time for everyone to do things in the midst of all the new rules due to coronavirus.So, I expected to wear masks during the entire time I was there. But, what I didn't expect was no blowdrying or styling due to the reason it might "spread bacteria" - I am not counting that against my rating for the salon, since I understand that is a state wide rule now. But, what I am accounting for is my haircut experience - clearly I had a very new stylist who was nice but very slow during the haircut. I also felt pretty rushed at the end, since after 45 mins another customer was waiting for her and she sort of rushed me out. I wanted a Bob and showed several pics and what I ended up with didn't look like any of the pics. It was a bit shorter that the pics - which I was honestly ok with. But, once I got home (and straightened and styled my own hair), the obvious uneven ends and 2 very noticeable long pieces sticking out were very frustrating. I know I have wavy hair but these pieces were like 3 inches longer than the rest of the haircut. I live close by and asked to have it fixed an hour after I got it before heading out - she was busy with another other customer and real quick clipped the two obvious ends but not the other uneven edges. She did offer that I can come back sometime this week to get it fixed but I was pretty disappointed to take her up on that offer. My haircut was definitely not work the $70 I paid for it (without any styling whatsoever)! I will definitely not be coming back to Grow in the future, which sucks because I am new to Seattle and was really hoping to find "my" salon =/ For now, during the no-blowdry or no-style times, I would not recommend Grow to a new customer, like myself. The salon is so cute and wonderful when I walked in they offered me a myriad of drink options from hot tea to lemon water to a glass of rose. The cherry on top was that all of the products are eco-friendly and hair friendly. I felt like I was in very good hands. This is going to be my regular salon. I highly recommend going with Vanessa. She was so knowledgeable about what hair color would work for my dark hair and how to cut my hair so that it would grow beautifully without needing to trim it as often.
