I had called to make lunch reservations at 11am for lunch on the same day at 12:30pm. The gal that took the reservation did not bother to ask my phone number when noting the reservation down and I was kinda nervous when she didn't do this since this a common practice for most restaurants. When I came, they said they don't have a reservation under my name. I have a phone record of calling them at 11am and because I forgot to ask the name of the gal I made the reservation with , I couldn't give name to corroborate my side. I used to go to Mimi's monthly for the Cobb salad. Sadly, that changed today. When did Mimi's stop using fresh lettuce? The lettuce tasted like it came out of a bag and was on the verge of turning. Just funky! The other noticeable change was the portion of avocado (only 2 diced pieces in my salad). It's a mistake to have the server toss the salad before one gets a good look at it. There was no room inside and verified with the hostess that she would notify us and all the other guests outside waiting. We made reservations for Thanksgiving at Mimi's. We arrived 10 minutes early, only to find out that we would wait about an hour. They told us to wait inside to hear our name, otherwise they would seat the next party. No courtesy to call or text so that we could at least wait outside. The place was packed by people who similarly made reservations and were waiting to be seated. Mimi's was not prepared to handle Thanksgiving at all. They must have grossly overbooked. We stop by on some Sunday mornings after Church. I almost always order the Eggs Benedict. Here the Eggs Benedict are the very best. The eggs come out looking fresh and natural, egg white fluff all around. This indicates to me the eggs were done for my order, no sitting around. The Hollandaise sauce is made with real butter and made in house, we asked. There is plenty of the sauce for the meal. The ham is excellent. The English Muffin is toasted crisp the way it should be presented. The potatoes are golden brown and the peppers and onions complement the complete dish. Finally the price is right. Once upon a time, Mimi's was a go-to choice, especially to meet friends for lunch and have a good range of food items from which to choose. After years of being a customer, it is now my last choice, I'm sorry to say. First, the food has steadily increased in price in inverse proportion to the taste and quality of what you get. The food is mediocre at BEST. Soggy bacon, overcooked eggs, tough cuts of meat, chewy breakfast potatoes, and crepes so bad they are unworthy of the name ( there should be a law against using it). If this weren't enough, the food is often lukewarm when it reaches the table. There is a either a very unskilled cook at the helm of the kitchen, or the people making the food just don't care about the overall quality of what they send out. You can generally get a better breakfast at IHOP, and a far better sandwich at Corner Bakery, or any number of other places. And how could any restaurant that presumes to associate itself with French style cuisine still, after all these years, bring people whipped MARGARINE with their bread basket. Seriously? Every single time, we have to ask for BUTTER, whereupon we get four little foil wrapped pats, hard as rocks. The service can be very attentive or sadly inadequate; it's toss-up. At lunch, they often appear to be understaffed, assigning a lone server to a large section, or one with large groups. On our last visit, we quietly informed the front of the house manager that there was NO toilet paper in the ladies room. Thirty minutes later, another person in our party visited the "loo" and still no paper. The manager's response... well, people keep going in there, so the guy can't get in to change it. Somehow it had not occurred to him that a female staffer could have entered the bathroom at ANY time with the needed supplies. Lastly, someone in management needs to look around and see just how tired the decor is... torn, cracked upholstery, shabby fittings in the ladies room, stained ceilings. and even bent flatware. Our go to plates here are the kids turkey dinner, and the Bacon blue cheese salad, sometimes will switch it up with the quiche Florentine, or something else snazzy like a soup and salad combo! The salads here are always the right touch of dressing with lettuce. The excellent ratio of topping and nuts. Not too much dressing, just right. The service here is always amicable, and the food quality here doesn't tend to waiver like other chain restaurants. The muffins that come with the salad are delectable, but too calorie filled. I often find I'm unable to finish my meal if I trying chowing down one of these bad boys. Four words: try the creme brûlée. You won't be disappointed. They lava cake is either a hit or miss, sometimes it has chopped up cherries in it, which can be a Debbie downer and make the cake not palatable. I've been going to Mimi's Cafe for years and many times it was where I took my family and friends for a delicious meal at reasonable prices, I have at least three meals there that I love one being the slow roasted Turkey, cornbread stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy with a spoonful of cranberry jelly on the side that I've enjoyed having and called my pre Thanksgiving treat in the middle of the summer BUT the other day my granddaughter had a doctors appointment in Irvine Ca and after her doctors appointment we decided to have lunch I chose Mimi's and told her how great this place was we were seated and maybe 15 minutes after being seated we got a menu looked it over and when I seen the turkey meal I remembered how wonderful it always was so that's what I ordered, when it was placed in front of me 45 minutes later I looked at it and immediately thought oh my goodness this looks like a Frozen TV dinner I took my fork and tasted it to my surprise underneath that turkey was the clump of cornbread stuffing that looks horrible almost gray in color still took a chance and tried it and to my disappointment the meal tasted the way it looked . This server never came back to our table once he placed the plates before us I had to stop him as he was walking by to ask for a check he drop that off and never came back I finally got up walked to the cashier and paid our bill what surprised me is that we even had to ask for bread I do remember back in the day they would bring bread and muffins nice and warm while you were waiting for your meal to come. What happened to Mimi's Cafe??? Sad how times have changed so I cannot recommend this again and hopefully all Mimi' haven't lost third touch. Forgot to mention that the silverware was dirty. We had seen many outlets of Mimi's and always thought they looked interesting but somehow we never tried dining there. However, a couple of our friends zeroed in Mimi's for our brunch meet up on a Saturday as they love this place. There were quite a few folks waiting but our friends had arrived earlier so we got seated within 5 minutes. The interiors is well decorated and the seating very comfortable. There were a lot of families - Old people and new and we could see that most of them were regulars. I ordered a glass of fresh squeezed Orange juice and gosh, it was refreshing. My husband ordered a mango mimosa, the DIY kind which was quite good. We were quite hungry so on a whim we ordered four of their best muffins (Blueberry, banana chocolate chip, chocolate and a spiced muffin) along with our breakfast plates. We got the muffins first and they were fresh and warm and utterly delicious. Obviously, we couldn't finish a muffin each, especially with the thought of yummy breakfast on the way. It did take a while between placing the order and when the food arrived but we were not too bothered because we mainly wanted to catch up with our friends. My friend wanted to try their daily specials - seafood skewers plate which was actually their lunch item but they were kind enough to serve it for breakfast. Props to them for such amazing service. Terrible experience. We went there yesterday evening with a group from St. John Neumann church here in Irvine. We had reserved their private group room two weeks ago for 6:30 PM. When we arrived on time, the room was not ready from its use by the group before us. The manager made excuses and told us there was nothing she could do to get the other party to leave. I'm sorry but in the restaurant business, you honor reservation times by letting the guests know ahead of time that the room is reserved by another group and that they have to start wrapping up their event. PERIOD. I have been in and have family in the restaurant business and that's just how it's done. This pathetic manager made the excuse that the previous group would not leave when told by staff that the room was reserved by another group after them. That was and is not our problem, however she made it ours. As most in our group agreed, had we been the group running late, and were notified of the other parties coming reservation, we all would have understandably made sure to wrap up our event to make way for the incoming reservation. All this pathetic manager did was make excuses that they wouldn't leave. Get a spine and take a hospitality management class Ms. Manager. The service was mediocre and our waiter was quick to serve and get our mediocre food to our party. My son ordered the Turkey dinner and it was also mediocre. The paste looking stuffing was literally rancid and I let our waiter know it. I told him to smell it which he did not do. He said he would let the terrible manager know and would remove it from the bill. He did not and the manager never came to me to ask about it. Two business associates and I recently agreed to meet at Mimi's Cafe for breakfast on a weekday morning. Although we were promptly seated, we waited nearly 25 minutes for waitstaff to take our order. Maybe the waitstaff was short-staffed at that time - I don't know - but 25 minutes is a long time to wait to place a simple breakfast order - especially when the restaurant was not crowded at all. None of the waitstaff wore name tags so it was difficult to get their attention to come over to our table to take our meal orders. For all of these reasons (inattentiveness to customer service), I deducted 4 points from this review. When the waitstaff finally appeared at our table, I ordered two eggs, bacon, potatoes, toast. Our meals were quickly prepared and arrived at our table within 5-10 minutes after placing our orders with the server. Overall, my meal was flavorful. However, the 4 slices of bacon were skimpy and the breakfast potatoes were overcooked. So, I am assigning 3 stars for my breakfast meal. read more

I've never been disappointed by my visits and have ordered everything from fried chicken and waffles, their seasonal fruit waffles, and the sausage omelettes. The fruit side dishes and the grilled potatoes, especially, are also pretty good. Their iced mochas are not a disappointment and their fruit drink selections are also pretty good.
