It has been a while since I reviewed a restaurant. I've wanted to, but only like to give positive reviews, at this stage of life. None had accomplished an excellent review like today's brunch at Mimi's café in IRVINE. We all remember the original Mimi's Café, they have closed so many of them, but this one still stands and has been there for as long as I can remember. Walking in was like a trip back in time, such great memories!!!! The food was excellent. Everything was top-notch quality, hot, and flavorful, I haven't had a meal that outstanding for years. The people that work there obviously care for this establishment, they were attentive. The ice water glasses were sparkling clean. But let me get to the food. I opened with a vanilla latte that was outstanding with just the right amount of foam. I had the three egg omelette, stuffed with spinach and topped with bacon and brie. It came with roasted potatoes and a muffin- I had the honey bran. My friend, Patricia, had homemade corned beef hash with poached eggs and potatoes & a muffin, as well. While in Irvine CA, my GF and I were treated to breakfast at Mimi's. Unfortunately the AC was not working that day but there were some ceiling fans that made our experience bearable. I didn't want to photograph everyone's meals because I had just met them, but I had the eggs Benedict. It was good, no complaints there. The restaurant specializes in muffins and some meals come with a muffin. I sampled 2 but the not that stood out was they carrot cake. It was really delicious, but not traditional. It was lighter than traditional and it was so good we got 2 loaves to go. Everyone enjoyed their meals as they've all been there before, but what stood out for me was the wonderful looking waffles that was ordered buy the person next to me. It came with eggs and choice of protein and he ate everything. Hopefully I can return and sample the wonderful looking waffles. Would definitely return here if I have the opportunity and hopefully the AC would be working. read more

Our office ordered Mimi's catering today for our early Thanksgiving (/potluck) celebration. We had the ham and turkey dinner with all the trimmings. The meats were dry since they were already sliced up. Mashed potatoes, gravy, broccoli, cranberries sauce were all okay. I was in the area, the other day, and I was craving Quiche. I ordered their Quiche Lorraine with salad, and a huge blueberry muffin. The service was spectacular, the French cafe style ambiance is cute and European. The food was delicious. My quiche was served piping hot, and flavorful, as well as my mouthwatering blueberry muffin. They still know how to make muffins, after all these years. I'm glad to see that Mimi's is still around, with fewer locations now. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal, and I highly recommend this location. Mimi's Cafe is a chain of casual restaurants serving American food with a touch of French bistro influence that I visit occasionally. Authentic or not, their onion soup is richly flavorful and delicious and is topped with a generous portion of melted cheese. It is probably one of their signature dishes on the menu. Some of my other favorites include their pot roast which is cooked French style in a red wine sauce and parmesan crusted chicken breast filet served over linguini with a zesty marinara sauce. I recently had a chicken pot pie, and it was surprisingly good. For some reasons it is quite difficult to find a good and hearty chicken pot pie in the Southland. I was impressed at first glance by its buttery, flaky, and perfectly golden-brown crust. The pie was stuffed with plenty of chicken and vegetables blended in a rich and savory sauce. The only slight disappointment was that it was a bit dry. It would have been perfect if there were more sauce inside the pie. But overall, I was happy about the meal. And don't forget that they have some of the best breakfasts in town. I am a big fan of their breakfast potatoes and house made sausages. Their quiches are also a great breakfast option that are not available in too many places early in the morning. Mimi's offers a wide variety of food choices. The decor is French and they do have a limited selection of French foods, but I would not call it a French restaurant. Absolutely terrible service. We were seated, placed our order immediately, and the only thing we asked for was water. Thirty minutes later, we still hadn't even received our water. We asked three separate times for a waiter, and no one ever came to our table. We were completely ignored the entire time. It's frustrating to spend your time at a restaurant where the staff doesn't seem to care whether you're helped or not. This was one of the worst dining experiences I've had, and I won't be coming back. I wouldn't recommend this place if you expect even basic customer service. Feels like the workers are on drugs at all times too. Does not take 50 min to make pancakes. They don't even come out with syrup. I ask for syrup and he comes out with 8 butters. Before coming to Mimi's, I walked out of a nearby Olive Garden after being ignored by their servers. Mim's is a familiar name, so I stopped here and was promptly greeted and seated by Haajar, the young lady at the hostess counter. Although she was busy with her own tasks, Haajar took my drink order and shortly thereafter my food order as well. She kept my Diet Coke filled, and was attentive without being intrusive. The food was tasty and the environment was inviting and mellow. But as I told the manager, Tracy: Haajar's kindness and welcoming spirit made the experience. Food was great but the whole dinner was ruined because we were seated next to a new workers family, her name was Maddy I believe and her family was being incredibly rude and loud the entire time. They were shouting across the restaurant for requests and bad mouthed her the entire time, the server also said as openly arguing with a different server behind us two. Came here early on Black Friday. There were not that many people in the restaurant, but you can tell they have regulars. Our server was awesome. He checked on us often and we told him we were going to split our meal and he brought it out on two separate plates, which was very kind. I always come here for the bran muffin. Whatever you do do not look at how many calories this muffin has... Lol this is a great place to come. If you want to catch up with an old friend, they don't rush you out in the restaurant is not too busy. We each had a brand muffin and we split the Sourdough burger mushroom brie sandwich. The brand muffin is always a 10 out of 10. The brie mushroom sourdough burger was a solid eight out of 10. My cousin kept saying that it was the freshest fries she had ever tried. I will be back here again. One thing to know is that on Thanksgiving they must've had a buffet because they said that they couldn't offer all of the items on the menu since they did not have time to prepare . read more

First time I came here was 11 years ago. Through the years we've eaten here several times, oftentimes with family, or a quick lunch/breakfast and several takeouts. The wide menu selection has made this our go-to favorite because there's always something we'd like, all season and any time of the day. So, here's our 11-yr roundup: French onion soup, corn chowder, hubby's fave for value, steak and eggs, corned beef brisket, salmon Benedict, pan Perdue, of course, eggs and bacon croissant sandwich, mushroom and Brie melt, chicken cranberry salad, sweet glazed salmon (photo today). French pot roast, and Mimi's meatloaf, and a whole lot of etceteras. Still have to try their crab and shrimp pasta and butter toffee cake! I came here recently since I was craving your typical American breakfast. Once seated, the waiter was super helpful even though he was super busy with multiple tables. I was surprised to find multiple seasonal items and I could not resist. I ended up ordering the pumpkin spiced griddle cakes with bacon and 2 eggs and was satisfied with food. All the food was cooked well and you could definitely taste the pumpkin spice. I am not the biggest pumpkin spice girl but I enjoy trying new things! I would definitely recommend trying it if it is still on the menu. The strawberry lemonade was great and the fries were nice and hot. The food came in time and while we were eating I started to notice small flies flying around our table. I thought maybe it was just 1 fly, turns out there were maybe 5 or more hovering over our food. Some coworkers and I had scheduled a Medicare presentation at Mimi's restaurant and we asked for a room in the back. We had purchased a 250 gift card prior to the meeting. Our attendance was very low in fact only one person showed up but since we asked for that room, we are required to spend $200 so we ordered some additional food for us that we weren't really planning on having Then I come to find out that once I hit the $200 limit we didn't need anything else. In fact I bought things I really didn't need us to get the 200. They wouldn't give me a gift card for the other $50 and made me spend another 50 bucks. I was also disappointed to find out I couldn't even leave the $50 as a tip for the waiter, why not? I paid you cash for the gift card so it's completely understandable that that should still be treated as Cash and I should've been allowed to. So I ended up having to buy another $15 worth of food that I didn't need and then had to spend $35 of my own personal money to give us a tip This policy needs to be changed. This was a total rip off for us last night not being able to use that gift card in part and then getting to leave the rest of it on the card for another time. read more

Boy, how things have changed since the last time I came here. We wanted to have some Thanksgiving turkey, but since nobody is open on Thanksgiving Day, we came early the day before. Upon entering, we saw that the lobby seemed pretty crowded already, that we'd have a long wait for a table, but it turned out that they were mostly just turkey takeaway orders. Anyway, firstly, there was no host as there usually is, so we had to flag down the server in the dining area, and were told to just sit down at the the booth he was setting up....good, no wait. So, to cut a long story short, I ordered the turkey special which included an appetizer (salad), roast turkey with stuffing, mashed potatoes, broccoli, cranberry sauce, and gravy. My wife, ordered the roasted half chicken, and to get this one out of the way, she said it was actually very good. As for my turkey, for $29 I expected a better portion than the few slivers of turkey meat on top of the stuffing. To make matters worse, the turkey meat, stuffing, and mashed potato were ALL COLD! It took us a good 5-10 minutes to flag down our server to tell him about this, and all he said to us was...ok....took the plate and walked away. No apology, no offer to get us a new plate or if we would like to try something else....nothing. When he came back, it was obvious that all he did was stick the plate in the microwave. Did not enjoy this meal and experience AT ALL. I also cannot forget to mention, our server wasn't very nice, friendly, and understanding at all....had quite the attitude, and made us feel like we were totally unwelcome here. Needless to say, all we wanted to do from then on was to finish our food and get out, pronto! In fact, I didn't even bother waiting for the server to bring us our check and simply walked up to the front order/cashier counter to pay for our meal there. Will never be back here again. read more
