I've been to Milagros a dozen times or so, and tried a lot of the menu items. In reading the other reviews it seems like people's expectations aren't being met, so I'd like to try to help readers understand where Milagros falls among Utah restaurants. It's not an authentic Mexican restaurant like El Gallo Giro and El Mexiquense. It's not an Americanized Mexican restaurant like Mi Ranchito or Mama Chu's. Milagros is more like Cafe Rio or Costa Vida, but where they have waiters and real plates. The salsas have no heat and are sweeter than you'd expect, especially the green salsa -- however, they're quite good. The green salsa especially has great flavor. They also have a hotter salsa available by request, but even that is not "hot". If you order something basic like a chimichanga, you'll find it quite comparable to what you'd get at Costa Vida, however if you go a little more adventurous, there are some really good items on the menu. I recommend trying any of the following: Chicken Sweet Green Chili Stuffed Quesadilla Barry's Pollo Fundido Milagros Chile Relleno Also, try the ceviche! I'd be happy to have someone point me to something better, but it's the best ceviche I've had in Utah to date. One warning though: Do not order the Happy Enchiladas. They are not happy. I really wanted to like this place. It's a well decorated industrial space. The decorations are excellent. My service was good. The food was just not good. On the plus side it's not the sickly sweet food from Cafe Rio or Costa Vida. On the negative side, it still has a lot of overly sweet food. The green salsa does not taste like tomatillos at all. It has a texture of high fructose corn syrup and tastes like there is a lot in it. When all is said and done, you have to put good food on the plate. The food is not spicy. OK, I didn't expect it to be. I did expect some sort of Mexican hot sauce to be available, even if it was just Cholula. No, I got Tobasco. It just shows how little attention to detail exists here. Somehow the concept of 'fresh' has been co-opted at places like this. A mediocre tomato that hasn't been cooked -- just diced up -- is fresh. A true garden fresh tomato cooked and put into a quality salsa isn't fresh. Yea right. I tasted very little true fresh. I tasted a lot of uncooked mediocre placed ingredients on my food. They are a rarity in Orem since they have a beer license and I can have a beer with dinner. I like that. Unfortunately, the food doesn't taste particularly good. Like a gritty horror movie, Milagros is a loose fleshed zombie shambling toward your dinner. The zombie bears a resemblance to the Bajio's that it once was ... it looks different, but the flavors are all the same. Second time eating here with my wife, it's her third. We absolutely love it here. Growing up with a Mexican mother means that I was exposed to traditional Mexican food, being in Texas means that I had great times with TexMex. I've got to say, Milagros is honestly the best I've had. I judge Mexican restaurants based on their Chile Rellenos, and many fall short. Milagros shines. Absolutely shines. The quality of food is fantastic, especially when you think about how quickly they put it out. Presentation is wonderful, and the overall atmosphere is that this is just a great chill spot. I'm extremely surprised at how many rough reviews this place gets. Maybe it's because I've just been lucky. They have a ton of great options and lunch specials. Their chips and salsa are great and give you a not so hot option. The service is fantastic and attentive. As for good, I have ordered the sweet onion enchiladas, pollo fundido, mata hambre, and horchata. I am yet to try something I didn't like. Their sides are good for typical Mexican food. Rice and beans are good, the onions are delicious. The only side that was subpar for me were the borracho beans. Again, I'm not sure why there are so many complaints on this place. Sigh. I was called out for being a food snob, so I took the lowest rated restaurant on Yelp and gave it a try. I'm ashamed that I ate almost everything that was put before me. We had Carne Asada for the 4th of July, I consider Mexican to be just as American as a hamburger or hotdog. If a Mexican joint does one thing right, it should be chips and salsa. The green sauce tasted, is it possible... greasy? The sweet Onion side was a treat, but almost everything else was a sugar bomb. Keep driving ~ The first warning sign should have been when we saw the the sign on the outside of the building "The Best Mexican Food Around." My friend and I were coming back from site seeing and were starving. We noticed this beautiful building that said Mexican Food. They were not busy. Yet, It took a while to get a waiter. When asked if we wanted anything to drink... **** note **** we were asked; " would you like anything to drink. We were not asked if we'd like a glass of water or soda?" Naturally being a Mexican Restaurant, we ordered a Margarita. Mind you... This isn't a fast food joint. We were told they never bothered to renew their liquor license which expired six months ago. Really....? Okay... But if that wasn't bad enough, they messed up on our order. It took a long time to get water. When asked for lemon, that was another 10 minutes. Love it! Great texmex food with sweetness. (Think bahio, durangos, cafe rio). Fundito, honey infused onion, shrimp tacos... Mmmm). Pretty sure the owner started Bahio many years ago - same sweet flavors, use of honey, green chile, lime, and light on the spices. 4 star rating because its great creative food. It can be hit or miss with flavor, quality if service. If you're looking for traditional authentic Mexican food keep moving along. However, if you are adventurous - take a shot. Most people in our group liked it. I thought it was terrible. Salsa: Terrible. The tomatillo salsa was sweet. Many people in our group liked, but those were only the folks from Utah, and not all of those did. Tomatillo salsa is not supposed to be sweet. Salsa in general shouldn't be sweet. Not only was it sweet, but it lacked the flavor of the tomatillos, and I didn't catch any hint of chile at all. Guacamole: Good, some of the better guac I've had. Chile Relleno: The cheese was good, the breading was too thick and almost seemed like bisquick or something. Fish Tacos: Meh, not as bad as the salsa or chile relleno, but far from good. They were flavorless, and again, not even a hint of chile of any sort. Would have been good if there were some sort of poblano or something in there, but there wasn't. Honey infused onion: Terrible. Absolutely terrible. I couldn't stand to finish it, which speaks volumes if you know me and my appetite. What I like about roasted onions is the onion flavor with the natural sweetness that comes out through the roasting process, that way the sweetness enhances the natural onion flavor. I don't know how they managed to mess that up, but there was virtually no onion flavor at all, and I'm not talking about the spicy that you get with an uncooked onion. Adding a little bit of vinegar to the process would probably do wonders. The honey only took away from the experience. That's all I had, but I don't plan to go back again. On top of that, the service was poor. We didn't get any plates for our appetizers, which may seem trivial at first, but try sharing something with a table when there is only one plate. One person in our group improvised the chip bowl to be a plate and the waiter didn't pick up on it. read more

I would give this place 3.5 stars. In general I would say the food is too sweet and a little bland. Very much a highly Caucasian take on Mexican food. We tried the green Chile chicken enchilada, sweet and "spicy" pork taco on a corn tortilla, and the beef chimichanga. We also got the queso at first but it was so nasty we had to send it back. It honestly tasted like dipping a chip into a hard Mac and cheese sauce. We switched it for guacamole which was average but not bad. The beef was by far the best meat. The others were dry and bland. Also other reviews are right that they charge more than the menu prices. Both entrees were $1 more each than what they said on the menu. I was not a fan of either of the salsas but my husband didn't mind the sweet tomatillo. I will say the place was extremely busy, so maybe the Utahns like that it isn't spicy? Driven by this place a lot and keep considering stopping in, but never do, mostly because it is clearly what I call a sit-down restaurant and I almost never have tons of time at my disposal when I'm in the area. However, finally I did. Looked like a good amount of cars in the lot, which is a good sign in Salt Lake and sometimes Ogden, but have meant incredibly varying results in Utah County. So, I was cautiously optimistic...until I saw the scribbled sign on the wall about Yelp reviews. I didn't get a chance to read it until I made it a point on the way out, but they were accusing an unnamed restaurant "down the road" of bombing them with single star reviews, in a sustained 3 year effort. So, I went to the actual listing for Milagro's and read through the entire first page and not a single 1 star review. Plenty of 2-star, though, including one from someone I trust second only to myself on here, Rod S. I'm taking a break out from the actual review for a message. Restaurants, don't do this shit. "People love us on Yelp" stickers in the windows are fine or you can give something for check-ins, but seriously, appealing to people to sign in to Yelp to counter a bunch of 1-star reviews (preferably with something way higher - can't recall the exact wording of the note) is bullshit. Even if I loved the food, I would boycott this place for just that reason, as I find it completely inappropriate and offensive. That bit of impromptu décor aside, the restaurant itself looks very good and leans towards authentic, even if a bit cramped and tight. I was by the kitchen and got to see the nearly entirely Mexican kitchen staff slog through stuff. They, incidentally, are the one bright spot among the staff I dealt with. Our server, for instance, constantly forgot stuff and here's another free tip for restaurants. If I'm not asking for you guys to bring me the stuff that was supposed to be on my plate and it's not there, that usually means I don't care and probably won't be back. This server didn't really bother enough to check in, so cool, I guess. The food is clearly inauthentic and features a bunch of Americanized gems, including a baby back enchilada that also did not come with any sauce on top. Server did not bother to ask what kind of sauce we wanted (apparently there are options) for the BBQ on the inside, so we wound up with the dreck-ish honey BBQ. I also ordered a Chile Relleno, since they did such a great job hyping it on the menu and it was drastically different from other Rellenos, though I note now that they also spent a lot of time shitting on other places in the description. They incorporate tempura and it's a thin coat over the pepper, which is stuffed with some sort of cheese concoction. That is also a nope. Coke Zero mix was far too sweet and I would have thought it was the regular version, though I didn't get an attendant HFCS headache, so it was probably just a bad mix. Chips were on the one ok spot, though both the salsas and the sauce that came with the Relleno was also garbage. Chili Corn was ok-ish, but this place is also extremely obnoxiously onion happy, which is unfortunate at best. This truly belongs on the list that Rod S. has, which is DNPIM (Do Not Put In Mouth). I wouldn't go quite that far (and will probably never create such a list myself) but also can't ever imagine a scenario where I will ever eat here again. Giving this 2 stars is me being very, very generous and most of what I had tasted like someone came up with a brainstorm and then described it to someone, who then had to actually create a physical manifestation. Wonderful take on Mexican! We live in another state, but keep finding reasons to come back to this place for the Milagros Mata Hambre, a house specialty. You almost need to have this dish first to understand the place: it's all about perfectly roasted and seasoned meats - pork, chicken and steak, in this dish - and fresh cut, steamed vegetables. The rice and beans are excellent. It's a great, healthy alternative to typical Americanized greasy Mexican food! The salsas are good, the chips are lighter than usual. Wonderful Tex-Mex food. I ordered the tacos enchiladas with black beans and rice. It's not traditional Mexican food but more Tex-Mex/California-Mex/Baja California and my family and I enjoyed all our orders. Customer service was pretty good and we got our food within a few minutes. Their marketing maybe taken a litte to literally. Salsa was spicy and fresh, not sweet at all. We will eat here again. For those that don't know, Milagros was started by the same guy that started (and sold) Bajios. You can also expect the food to be very similar to Bajios. It's not a cheap place to eat, even their lunch specials are $8 without a drink. But the food is good. It is not mexican food, it's texmex, with a lot of sweetness in the dishes (like bajios). If you get the green chicken chile qusadillia or the fundido, you won't be disappointed. Don't get the nachos, they are overpriced and sparse. Get the onion ball as one of your sides. I have been told the ribs are awesome but I have not partaken. read more

Ok I had to go to this restaurant for 3 reasons. 1) I am staying at la Quinta next door, 2) I love Mexican food and 3) because of the idiotic, novel of a review that I saw! First the location is perfect, the inside is calming and pleasant. The music is fun. The staff were attentive, funny and service was quick. The food- I LOVED IT!! If you want "Americanized" Mexican food, there is a Taco Bell and a Taco Time right next door. Go there!! If you want handmade tortillas, cuisine from the middle of Mexico, sweeter salsa and sweeter cuisine and unusual dishes, this is the place for you! The food was described perfectly and tasted great. My husband that likes the more "Americanized" food was disappointed as not everything was smothered in cheese. I loved the healthy feel of the food. A Spectacular restaurant! The whole place is eye candy; there is so much to look at including hand blown lamps made at Utah's County's local Thanksgiving Pointe, " Cup O' Pizza" (a Milagro's teaser and inside joke), old school coke a cola signs, along side beautiful Mexican paintings and a gorgeous wooden window from the old Trolley Square looking into the kitchen.( Server gave us a rundown of the story and interior of Milagro's) Live plants cover the restaurants perimeter, gorgeous turquoisy- blue floor, dark wood tables and chairs, with dark yellow walls and authentic saint statues that dot the place. Thats just the interior! The food is fantastic! It has a Baja Mexican taste to it; lighter and well seasoned. All made at the restaurant; salsa's including the "hot sauce" salsa are too die for; (server mentioned since we like spicy, so we tried it out) along with the "not to salty" and perfectly crisp chips. The dishes are fresh and hot. They definitely give you your money's worth in food. I have had to to take almost half home with me every time I eat there. And its great later on when you have that craving. ;) Refried beans have a great smoky taste to them. The enchiladas and Ribs are mouthwatering to say the least! Beef is my favorite and the Chicken Mango Salad with the Ranch and Red Pepper dressings are what I recommend. Dave's(owner) son Jackson comes in randomly on the weekends to play music; he is so cute and really very talented. I have enjoyed everything I have heard from him. You don't find many places that have live soloist music in good ol' Utah County! For being open for only a month I have had great servers; and some okay ones( probably just out of training, and hey, everyone has those days; all and all everyone has been great regardless) I see Milagros doing very well. This place was amazing. My family came in and they gave us great service. They have fresh, REAL, Mexican food. The stuff you get when you go down to Senora or Chihuahua. The veggies here were better than any other place I've gone, Mexican or otherwise. Milagros is a fun little change of pace from your typical Mexican faire... The truth is, I wouldn't really consider it Mexican food at all. It's definitely Tex-Mex with their own unique twists on the classics. The food is on the verge of comfort food and you wont feel the slight bit healthy. Everything I tried was good, I guess I was just expecting something different. The salsa is so sweet i would consider it chunky ketchup; it wasn't my favorite. Nothin is out-of-this-world amazing but it all tastes good which is why it is "A-OK" in my book. I will say, the portions are big and the menu is diverse, I'm sure you'll find something you can enjoy. The service is phenomenal so thats a plus. I definetly would not come here looking for anything near authentic Mexican food...I think Taco Bell comes closer to that. read more

I've probably reviewed this place before, but it is worth reviewing again. If you were sad when Rosa's in Provo closed a few years ago, you'll be happy to see this place -- one of the same owners from Rosa's. The food is different than most of the other Mexican places in town. Sure, they have some of the same names of items but the recipes are quite different. They also have a lot of things I don't see at other Mexican restaurants (e.g. a honey infused grilled onion ball as a side option). This place is very "meh". I got the ceviche with a side of black beans. The chips and salsa they serve was not very good. The tomatillo salsa was very sweet. I couldn't really stand it. The red salsa was less sweet, but still too sweet. The ceviche was good. The seafood tasted pretty fresh. The big negative for me with the ceviche plate was the wilted red leaf lettuce. That made it difficult to eat without making a big mess. The beans were ok--a bit bland--but ok. I also tried some guac from a friend's plate (he forgot to ask them to not add guac to his chicken burrito) and some pork with the nacho platter another friend got. The guac was ok. The pork was actually pretty good. The chicken burrito my buddy ordered was burned on the bottom, and his chicken was dry. read more

The look of the place itself was charming enough, though the energy there was heavy and almost sad feeling. Also, what kind of Mexican restaurant doesn't serve alcohol? Oh yeah, a restaurant in Orem.
