Lots of choices! Went with the Chocolate Chip cannoli (their most popular flavor) and Boston Creme pie. Their cannolis are huge. Great pastry texture, easy to eat on the go. Cream was light, not too sweet. Pie slice was also huge and it was so good. I loved the cake layers and the creme with the chocolate frosting. Both are big enough to share. It was busy but the service was quick and efficient. You pay cash only. They tie your pastry boxes with string so you can walk through the city holding it like a shopping bag. Yes, the line can be long, but don't let that scare you--it moves fast, and trust me, it's worth the wait! Just a heads-up: they only take cash, so be sure to hit an ATM beforehand. We tried the cannoli, whoopie pie, and cupcakes, and every bite was fantastic! The cannoli were perfectly crisp with rich, creamy filling, the whoopie pie was soft and decadent, and the cupcakes were just the right balance of sweet and moist. Next time, we're definitely trying one of their famous lobster tails! One thing we did notice is that staff handle food without gloves. There were tons of positive reviews for here, but overall, I felt that their cannolis were just OK. The filling tasted sweeter than the cannolis I grew up eating. I also ordered a pistachio one, and the only pistachio flavor came from the crushed pistachios on the ends of the pastry. There was nothing on the inside to give it that flavor. This was a little bit frustrating considering you pay extra for a flavored cannoli. I think that this is a fun place to stop and try, but there are other bakeries that have better cannolis in my opinion. read more

A coworker recommended Mike's while I was out to dinner and after checking their hours, I decided to head over there about 9 pm and it was still very busy. The store was full, but the lines move quickly when folks know what they want. Obviously for many, that choice is their famous cannoli, in many different flavors. Service - perhaps it was a language barrier but didn't listen to our question, were distracted socializing. It's a basics in terms of ambiance meaning there isn't any. Food- lobster tail cream filling was delicious but the rest was stale. Regular cannoli, I've had better from Whole Foods!! The chocolate cream cannoli was inedible. I had to visit one of the most well known pastry shops in Boston. Inside is a large room with display shelves of pastries. On the back wall is enlarged pictures of each cannoli they have available, as those aren't displayed but kept in the back. The storefront is cash only, but you can place pickup or delivery orders through UberEats and DoorDash. Once you order, they're pretty quick to wrap and package up your items and move on to the next customer. I ordered the large peanut butter cookie dipped in chocolate and the pistachio cannoli. I'm not a fan of peanut butter flavored treats, but the peanut butter wasn't overwhelming and the bit of chocolate was heavenly. The pistachio cannoli was very sweet, but super good. So the place has long long lines we went to the spot in the north end and once you get to the front it's amazing all the stuff they really do have. We got a lobster tail, a chocolate ricotta cannoli, a scone and a Dubai chocolate donut. Located in Boston's North End a hop, skip, and jump away from their cannoli competition, this bakery seemed to be much busier (by sheer volume of people) than Modern. You could see the throngs of people piling in as you approach the storefront. As soon as you enter, you are met with a sea of people waiting in makeshift lines. Pick one and cross your fingers it's a swift moving one. The problem with the many lines and large quantity of people in this set up is that you have a while in line before you can see the pastry items available and cannoli options. With that said, you have people getting up front that may take longer to decide instead of being ready to go because they've had plenty of time to decide. With that said, the line moves relatively swiftly. They have quite a cannoli selection (see photos above the menu board across the wall) but doesn't seem quite as customizable as Modern's. I opted to try their lace cookie shell (Florentine) cannoli which came with traditional cream and chocolate chips. I also wanted to try their lobster tail to compare it to Modern's but it didn't look nearly as amazing so I got a Boston cream doughnut (puff). The Florentine was interesting and had great potential but the shell seemed a bit more chewy (lacey) than it should be for a cannoli which made it a little messy to eat. The star though was definitely the Boston Cream doughnut. It was light and fluffy filled with smooth flavorful cream that I could have eaten at least 2 of! However, it is Boston and people are rude so while you are waiting people jump in line and it does make it annoying. Numerous lines, but nobody really follows lines. However, the canolli is delicious. We only bought one because they are rather large. I don't like chocolate, so I was glad to see they had a variety of non-chocolate flavors. The pistachios were light and chewy. The canolli itself was crispy without being too soft. The filling was sweet and thick without being overly rich. This is of those places you have to experience at least once if you're in Boston. This is not a sit-down-and-linger kind of spot: pure takeout vibes, cash only, and quick. Know what you want before you get to the counter type deal. Come knowing that and you'll enjoy it so much more. We decided this place through video recommendations and yelp. The line was long, as expected due to the popularity. It took roughly 15-25 min. We got the amaretto and the chocolate chip cannoli. Waited until we got back to our hotel to try it. Between the two, I did prefer the amaretto only because I love toast almonds and the filling had amaretto flavored filling. The filling was good, but it was too sweet for our liking. The cannoli shell was crisped and had a satisfying crunch to it. No dining / seating area. just grab and go. No bathroom. As tourists, we were glad to have tried it since it's a staple but honestly, I thought they were average cannoli. I thought they were alright. Maybe I'm just not into cannoli? They were too sweet to finish in one sitting, so we did have a fridge to store it overnight. That helped with the initiate sweetness level which was tolerable. We tried the mousse and chocolate chip, both were good and I honestly couldn't pick a favorite.
