Just a snack for lunch... I ordered the falafel dip with tzatziki. Service was very friendly and prompt. It was pre-lunch hour so it was empty. I ordered for take-out. It was quick. Upon opening my order, the falafel were shaped like mini hockey pucks and were hard and much to salty, leading me to deduce that they were certainly of the frozen mass produced and bagged variety. I asked some questions about the menu and the person had an attitude with his response, and the response was we don't have nutrition information. I ordered a large plate with a double salad, comes with a very small side of sauce. I tipped a dollar on my 15 dollar order. They gave me pita bread I didn't want, and when I asked for some more sauce to eat with my huge portion of salad and meat, they said it would be a an extra dollar for the sauce. unreal. Sad to post a disappointing review for one of my favorite eateries, but last night I experienced less than their usual quality food. I am hoping this is an outlier: my chicken was so tough, seemed old and texture was awful-just very poor quality and I couldn't eat any of it. Mika's is a-okay. Do yourself a favor and get Diablo style for a little zing to your lunch. I'm partial to chicken souvlaki myself and if you get the plate you can switch fries for the salad. Overall a decent place for a quick bite if your're working in the hospital near by. But don't look for this place to blow you away. read more

Stopped in for a quick bit and I was wrong about quick. I waited in line for 10 mins my mistake for going during the lunch rush. I was in the area and heard this place was great so I stopped by and had lunch. Got here around 12:30 and they were busy. A great sign to know your gonna get served fresh food. And Fresh Food it was! I had the Picado Pita, the meat was juicy and fresh, perfect amount of spice to the pita. The fries were great, not dropping oil like other places. I was pretty disappointed in this place. :( I'm a huge greek food fan, and Mika's really missed the mark. We don't have many options in cen-pho, so I was hopeful Mika's would fit the niche we need... The atmosphere: nice, I guess. It's a little odd.. almost too formal-type décor in a fast food setting. They clearly put some money and effort into renovations though, and I can appreciate that. One issue is space, and how there isn't much of it. They must do a lot of take out business because there were several groups of people waiting around for their food (read: blocking the soda fountain.) The service: It's fast food style. You order at a counter and get a number, the food is brought out to you. The girl at the counter was nice. The time it took to get our food seemed unreasonably long. :/ eh. The food: I fully admit that I am pregnant and will typically eat anything. I have a ravenous appetite and it doesn't take much pomp and circumstance to please me... But I was disappointed. I can only imagine the feelings of someone who isn't eating for two. I ordered The Mediterranean chicken pita with their upgraded "greek fries" (fries with oil, seasonings, and feta on top) As soon as our food arrived I was disappointed by the obvious freezer fries. And the addition of a LOT of olive oil wasn't doing them any favors. Those little freezer fries soaked up that oil like a sponge. I like the idea of these toppings on fries, but you REALLY need to use fresh cut shoestring or thinner fries, not frozen steak fries. The pita was just ok. The chicken was juicy (an upgrade from Athenian Express' dry chicken) but the flavor wasn't fantastic. It was amply filled, pita was fine. (might just be bagged and warmed though, didn't taste house-made) I will give them credit for the tzasiki sauce. It did taste authentic and homemade and I enjoyed it. My husband ordered the chicken souvlaki (simply just chicken on skewers) and had the lentil soup side. The soup tasted canned. It was bland and the texre left much to be desired. The chicken skewers were literally just like, 8 chicken balls on a skewer with some greek seasoning sprinkled on and grilled. Hubby said they were not amazing. Just "sort of green tasting dry-ish chicken on a stick." I should probably mention the soda/fountain issues. :/ The ice dispenser wasn't working, so you have to get ice from the counter. Whatever. I got a sprite, and the soda is coming out of the fountain warm or something.. It was very weird. Much of the ice given to me was melty immediately, rendering the soda watered down and less than carbonated. Thinking initially that maybe the syrup was low on that one I replaced it with the Dr. Pepper (after getting more ice from the counter), and nope. That soda had to have been warm too, it caused the same issue. This probably wouldn't bother everyone, but I'm a connoisseur of fountain soda, so this cost Mika's some love for sure. The rundown: We won't be back. Mika's has been open several months now, and that seems like enough time to have streamlined the issues we experienced. Plus, the food just wasn't that great and the price point wasn't on par for the quality. Sorry Mika's, I'll be going to Athenian Express and treating myself to MBFGR. read more

I've driven past this location for at least a year and always said I need to check them out. Instead of relying on the same old standard Friday night dinner fare, I picked Mika's to be the night's adventure. My dinner mate and I ordered the hummus plate, Mika's fries (gyro meat, feta and tzatziki over fries) and gyro pitas with sides. I could only make it through the appetizers! The fries are quite possibly my newest addiction. Everything has bright flavors and no one flavor over powers another. I look forward to going back and trying the dolmades and lentil soup. Fast and Fresh Greek Fare in Phoenix. Me and my coworker stopped in to try the new location in Phoenix. I ordered the Gyro Pita, which was filled with a tender and flavorful beef & lamb mixture with a good spice mixture that enhanced the meat without being overpowering, which is a common problem at greek places. The pita was fresh and warm and filled with a good amount of meat, and not buried under a lot of lettuce and other "fillers." French fries were fresh, hot and crisp. All the ingredients were very fresh tasting and lacked the "reheated" fare you get at other places. Although I would have preferred a bit more tzatziki sauce, it was still one of the best Gyros I have had around downtown Phoenix in a long time. My coworker, a vegetarian, had the falafel and found them very flavorful and light, and had similar comments about the fresh taste of his lunch. I usually really like this place; however, the soda machine has been down nearly every time I go there. I went in on Monday and had almost finished my food before the machine was back up. I understand that things happen, but I'm not exaggerating, it has been down on at least 10 visits. They should minimally offer water or a bottled soda to those who are eating without a beverage. Unacceptable. Normally the food is very good and very quick. This last visit was not good at all. The chicken was very dry on my friend's plate, which she ended up leaving and my falafel was extremely dry and tasted terrible. I guess they were having an off-day because this isn't typical. Definitely a fan of both the food and location. So happy to have a little Greek food in the heart of mid-town Phoenix. It's conveniently located across the street from St. Joseph's hospital 1/4 mile from Central Ave. My husband and I started with the falafel appetizer. In my opinion, they make the one of the best falafel's I've ever tasted! Crispy and spicy! I also ordered the cucumber salad - very refreshing (although I would ask for the sauce on the side next time). We order Gyros for lunch - the meat was great and the serving is generous. Oh, and I ordered the Greek fries served with lemon/garlic sauce -- yum, yum. My only critique is that I prefer my Tziki a little more garlic and thicker than how they serve it at Mika's. It's set up more like a fast food joint, but everything is made fresh there on the premises and the inside is very nice, but small. Give it a try if you are in Central Phoenix at an event at the Heard, or an exhibit at the Phoenix Art Museum. And, lucky you if you work downtown :) read more

We decided to have the "Greek Sampler," which had 3 Falafel, 3 dolmades, tzatziki, generous serving of homemade hummus with 8 warm pita quarters. Every item was fresh and savory. Got a large meal two sides: Falafel and Gyro. Didn't get the gyro meat in my delivery so I can't say anything about it, but the falafel was extremely dry. Tasted like it was frozen and not freshly made. The fries were plain fries so don't waste your time on the upgrade because it's $1.25 to get them. The salad was very small and the lettuce was not fresh. Tzatziki sauce tastes bland..no flavor, missing garlic. If I had to do it again I'd pass. Went right before they closed to grab a gyro. Walking in they were mopping the floors and cleaning the entire place. So it was nice to know the restaurant is clean. The restaurant itself was very cute. The man who took my order was also very kind. The food was AWESOME!!! The beef/lamb gyro tasted sooooo good! The rice was tasty as well.
