We're in trouble. The second I tasted the garlic sauce, I had an immediate realization, this is the kind of place that accidentally ends up on my weekly rotation. I would legitimately come back just for pita and that garlic sauce. No shame. I ordered online and, because I have no self-control, kept adding things to my cart. Ended up with a falafel wrap, a side beef kebab, a side of rice, and a garlic sauce. I had no idea the wrap came with a generous serving of steak fries, so that was a nice surprise. Now... I may have ruined my own ability to objectively review the falafel because the first thing I did was absolutely smother it in that garlic sauce. Underneath my terrible scientific methods, the falafel was crispy, flavorful, and every bite had a nice little crunch of freshness (pickle, onion, maybe tomato? I mentioned, smoothered in garlic sauce). The pita itself deserves a mention, too. It was soft, fresh, and held everything together without falling apart. Nothing over-the-top or fancy, just a really good pita and a wrap that felt like a fair portion for the price. The beef? I only stole one bite because I'm saving it for later, but it was tender, flavorful, and paired with some seriously delicious crunchy onions. The rice is also waiting for Future Me, who's going to have a pretty great evening. The woman working there was incredibly kind. I showed up a little early after ordering online, let her know I was probably ahead of schedule, and she came out to greet me, chatted for a moment about the storm rolling in, and brought my food right out. One thing that surprised me was the size of the place. I'd seen people describe it as a "hole in the wall," but... I don't know what kind of walls they're used to. This place is much bigger than a hole. I'll definitely be back. Mostly because that garlic sauce has already made itself a problem. Future Jess checking in: I originally hadn't tried the rice, but now I'm standing in front of my refrigerator eating it cold with a spoon, and I have zero regrets. It's beautifully cooked, and there's this subtle cardamom flavor that somehow makes plain rice ridiculously addictive. I kept wondering what I'd eat it with. Turns out... nothing. I've had this restaurant on my list of Restaurants to visit when I am in the neighborhood. I came in at 3 on a Monday; the restaurant must be getting a new look. Someone was working on the buffet line and the carpet was missing. Perfect timing to have missed the lunch rush to have the place to myself. I was greeted quickly by a friendly kind man whom was knowledgeable and accommodating to my sensitivities to certain foods. Lentil Soup and Salad were so flavorful and delicious. The Lamb Shank Dinner was a little gamey for my taste and not tender; but that's just a preference to me. My husband loved it. Was looking for something different for a late lunch/early dinner and found myself in this area. Saw the other positive Yelp reviews, so I decided to try. It was a weird time of day to have a meal. We were welcomed and shown to a comfortable table. We ordered a sampler combo and have zero regrets, even though it was too much food for one sitting! (Hot tip: Mediterran/Middle Eastern food leftovers are *always* good!) The rice was also exceptional! Full of flavor and beautiful texture. I asked what the secret was and it wasn't clear how it was spiced. Trust me, rice isn't really a main feature, but Hana House rice is worthy of a trip on its own! Stopped in for lunch with some buddies. Another friend had told me about the place. Turns out it has been around for about 5 years. The ambiance looks like a place in transition. Some of the flooring has been removed and the concrete was painted over. Wasn't sure if that was an interim step or the end product. The service is very good - we were well taken care of. The menu covers all kinds of Middle Eastern food. We opted for the family meal. It consisted of hummus, baba ganoush, rice, pita, and a mix of meat skewers. It was really good and way more than we could eat. The meats were delicious! Roasted, well spiced, and a nice char on some of them. The beef and chicken cubes was so good. I would definitely go back. I wish I had taken a picture of our food before we dug in, because it was all beautifully presented, but I wasn't expecting to be writing a review. The service was great, attentive but not pushy. But the food... EVERY item was absolutely delicious! The salad was fresh and crisp with light perky dressing. The hummus was unbelievably airy and creamy! We had it topped with tender juicy mouthwatering chicken shawarma. It would easily be a meal in itself! We decided to share a sampler plate and it was the right choice! The beef kefta was one of the best i've had! The kebabs were tender and tasty with delicious seasoning on both the beef and chicken. I met the owner and mentioned I was in town on business and craving falafel. Despite the kitchen only being partially open to feed the renovation crew, he kindly offered to make me a to-go plate. The owner was friendly, generous with his time, and clearly passionate about what he's building--an environment where people can feel welcome and enjoy great food. Before writing this review, I noticed how often he not only thanks customers for their positive feedback but also takes accountability when someone's experience falls short. That kind of presence and humility is rare in small business owners. Owning and operating a restaurant isn't easy, and he seems to do it with consciousness and grace. And the falafel? This place is a gem. We stumbled upon this restaurant while looking for coffee. The building and decor itself is unassuming, but the food and staff are superb. We were greeted immediately, and were told to choose our seats. We asked the waitress for suggestions and she told us to pick the sampler plates. So we did the two sampler plates and every item was delicious. The Arabic coffee was perfectly made, not too sweet and very strong. The staff were fantastic not only with their recommendations, but with their attentiveness and friendliness. Some of the best middle eastern food I've ever had! I'm always on the lookout for excellent falafel and hummus. I read a few very positive reviews about this place from random vegan sources, so it made the "must try list." It's also very close to my mother-in-law's place! We ordered a falafel pita, hummus and tabbouleh. The falafel sandwich also came with crinkle-cut fries. The falafel quite possibly be my favorite so far in the Phoenix metro. I haven't been to Haji Baba in years, but this quality compares to theirs. It was fresh, full of flavor and not too greasy. I asked for it with tahini on the side (which my husband loves, but I don't) but they also included hummus on it, which was perfect. The fries were great! I'd probably cook them a touch longer, but that's just me. The hummus was creamy and had a nice garlic overtone without being too overwhelming. The tabbouleh leaned heavier on the parsley than the bulgar, which is just fine for me. It was lightly flavored and fresh. The only area that needs work is the pita. We received a generous portion of it, but it was a bit too stiff - like store-bought. They should switch sources if they don't make their own. Service was friendly and our order came out perfect. They could play some music to improve the ambiance a bit though. Given how close Hana House is to my in-law's place, I hope we will be back frequently! Loved it here! The food was so delicious! I got the Hanna special mix plate so I can try a variety. The portions are large! Easily could feed two people but in my case just had super yummy left overs for the next day. My favorite was the beef kabob but all 4 were grilled perfectly and everything was juicy. I also got the baba ganoush and love how it was on the chunkier end, some are practically a paste but this one had chunks of the eggplant which I really loved. The garlic sauce is to die for, I ended up ordering a large side of it to go. The servers were really friendly and I came with a large work lunch party and we were easily able to pay separately at the end which was great. Their baklava is super good! There was an Atlantic article years ago about finding the best ethnic food in strip malls. We just got back from Turkey and were craving some shawarma, so we ordered online on the way back from dropping off a motorcycle for some repairs. We were pleasantly surprised when we found Hana House on the end of a strip mall with several other exciting looking options. We ended up getting a Hana Appetizer 2, which came with hummus, babaghanouj, tabbouleh, three falafels and three dolmades. That in itself could probably have been a meal, but we added on a chicken shawarma as well. Hana House included pita and fries for dipping. We were extremely hungry when we started, and we still have leftovers. This meal was so generously portioned that it could have served four. Anyway, I wanted to write this review because Hana House has a secret. Although drinks aren't listed online, the in-house menu has the best mint lemonade we've ever tried. We ordered one mint lemonade and one mango juice and proceeded to purchase another four mint lemonades to take home with us. It's handmade in the back so takes a few extra minutes, but if you're ordering food for pick-up, put in an order at the front desk for some mint lemonade and thank me later. It's soooo good. No tangy artificial sweetness. Just pure minty lemony goodness. We figured out that Hana House is only a few miles away from our hair salon, so we know where we'll be stopping each time we come in for a haircut! read more
