We've used Mighty Maids for about a year and have had decent, albeit inconsistent service. Some of their employees have done a fantastic job in three hours and sometimes we've gotten those who can't complete our house in four hours and insist on us carrying the cleaning supplies up to our second floor. We continued to use this service instead of upgrading to one consistently better because they've always been able to accommodate last minute requests, plus they're one of the lowest cost providers. We've had a few issues with their timing in the past - for example, maids showing up two hours earlier than scheduled or coming a couple of hours later, regardless of the agreed upon time. I've spoken to the owner about this and she said she gives us an estimate of when they'd arrive (between 11-12) which apparently means it's fine for them to show up at 1:45 or 9:45. When the cleaning ladies do manage to get here, they change into work clothes - which would be fine if they chose to do so in say, one of our bathrooms of bedrooms or any other place with a door that closes, rather than dropping trou in the center of our living room. (My husband is still embarrassed.) In our experience, none of the women can speak English and don't understand sentences like, "Can you wipe down the cabinets?" And yet, recently the same woman who couldn't process a simple request had no problem explaining how my cat barfed on her shoe and she would need to be reimbursed right now, thank you very much. Previously I'd have given this service 3-4 stars - not fantastic, but certainly worth what we'd paid. However, I just had an experience with the owner that has negated a year of good will. Over the course of cleaning this last time (arriving three hours later than scheduled with no call to apologize) our expensive burr grinder was disassembled and placed in the dishwasher and now it is broken. I understand that accidents happen and things break, but it should be brought to my attention and not jammed into the back of the dishwasher. Coupled with the poor, incomplete, and inconvenient cleaning job we received, I was angry when I called to complain (albeit in a calm voice) about the "rocket scientist" who broke my burr grinder. As I am the wronged party here who now needs to replace a $150 burr grinder, I expected the owner to calmly listen to my complaint. What I didn't expect was for the owner to shriek at the top of her lungs for ten minutes, telling me what a rotten and petty person I was for calling her employee a rocket scientist. I immediately apologized for calling the maid a rocket scientist because I've personally been a cleaning person and that wasn't a fair thing for me to say. She continued to scream over me and would not even let me get a word in edgewise. I have never in my life had anyone speak to me in such an unprofessional manner. Seriously, so much screaming. You'd never guess I'd been a customer who'd spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars with her over the course of a year. After yet another round of personal attacks, I tried to stop her diatribe, explaining that I'm a writer, I post stories about my life, and that her behavior was not only unacceptable but also excessive and bizarre. I told her if she kept screaming at me, I was going to let my readers know the experience I had. At this point she warned me her husband was Superintendent of the Chicago Police and implied that writing a poor review was not in my best interest. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Then she demanded to know if I was home. Um, what? She insisted I tell her if I was home because she wanted to send someone over here. (Sure! Come on in!) She wouldn't tell me if anyone on her staff had the capability of fixing the burr grinder, she just insisted on knowing if I were home. At that point my phone cut out and the call ended. She called me back a few minutes later, somewhat more calm (likely after a Google search) again demanding to send someone over here. She told me if she couldn't send someone here to "fix" it then I couldn't have any claims against them. I explained again I don't want her staff in my house and that the whole point of the call was to inform her why we were never using Mighty Maids again. To be clear, after 15 minutes of verbal abuse, the owner attempted to come to a resolution and remedy the situation. However, her "fix" included sending a stranger to my house and there was no way I was having that, especially after an implied threat. In summary, the service isn't bad if time or consistency isn't one of your concerns. And if you don't mind verbal abuse, unprofessional behavior, or the implied warning of a CPD smackdown, then you should definitely give them a call. read more

We used this service once and they were TERRIBLE. First, they sent the cleaning woman to our house on the wrong day (they did take $20 off the total cost for this error). When I phoned in I had some specific requests (wanted the blinds and windows cleaned etc.) and was told this was fine. When the cleaning lady arrived and I told her what to start with she looked at me like I was crazy - she thought she was coming to do just a 'regular' cleaning. Apparenly they send men for the types of things I wanted done - but they sent a woman. The cleaning that was done was OK. We will never use this service again. read more

We have been using Mighty Maids for almost 9 years now. In the past year or two the service has declined. They do not train their staff the same as they used to and dusting isn't done as well as even I would do. Also, there have been multiple mix-ups about the time they were supposed to get here. We canceled today, and now need to shop around again. However, in the past: The owner, Joann, is very pet-friendly (and often has cats that need homes, just so you know) and always takes into consideration our pets when she assigns a house cleaner to us. Mighty Men do outdoor jobs like windows (the indoor part too); basement cleaning; etc. They were very careful with my flower beds which I appreciated a lot! read more

This is an update to the 2010 review. I'm still using Mighty Maids although I notice their customer service (phone) has gotten poor. The good: I can call and get house cleaning service in 24 hours. I messaged several house cleansing srvs in Chicago and over a 2-3 day period it was back and forth negotiating price and not getting a call back or a reply message. When I first called MM on Wednesday and asked for service for Thursday, I got an instant appointment. However, this is for Margaret who answered the phone: Very unprofessional. You didn't say "Mighty Maids", you answered the phone like you were at home and I questioned if I had the correct business. And then, you didn't ask for a credit card like you usually do. I had to remind you to take my credit card. And -- you didn't ask if I had my own supplies! As you usually do. And you were so laissez faire about taking the card #. I think MM needs to join the 21st century and get a website, get a decent phone service. I wondered if they were out-of-business because all the other house cleaning businesses have websites or some kind of internet presence. The woman they sent to clean was (as usual) an older EU woman, very pleasant. I was glad she showed up on time - as they usually do. But I wondered why she was on her hands & knees scrubbing my floors instead of using a mop? If she thought my mop wasn't good enough, she should have told me. I'm always open to getting better cleaning products. The cleaning is "standard". I didn't need a deep clean which is what the other services wanted to give me. I just needed a scrub down. read more

I've been intending to right a message on here regarding this company for a couple weeks now, but just now found some time. This is a pitiful company to work with. Please avoid them at all costs. If you need a good maid service, call V-MAIDS in Chicago. Anyhow I called Mighty Maids a couple weeks back to schedule to get my condo cleaned. The customer service lady on the line was rude and extremely unprofessional, but I still figured give them a shot. I needed a good condo cleaning and didn't have time to do it myself with work. Comments like what's your deal and when I called to give them feedback on the service and requested two call backs, they didn't bother or care to call back. So the day of service, the maid was scheduled to show up at 12 PM. She came on time. They have a 3 hour minimum, charge for cleaning supplies and even a vacuum if you don't have one (but I had all of that stuff). They charge $20.00 per hour plus. So I let the lady clean and went out front and cleaned up around the condo property. About 215 the maid told me she was done and leaving. I thought to myself don't you ask if I need anything else done since I am paying for 3 hours minimum, but no she didn't. She put her shoes on, packed up, and walked out the door with my check for $60.00. I ended up spending an additional hour cleaning up my place after the cleaning lady left. You know its bad when you have to clean up after the cleaning lady and continue her half ass job. Screw this company. I called to talk to a supervisor the following business day and they never returned two of my phone calls. Would never use them again or recommend them to anyone. read more

It's nice to see that a couple recent reviewers had the same crappy experience I did when I used them a couple years ago. Nothing like consistency. I used them from about 2002-2005, and it's true that none of their girls spoke English. Anything I wanted to have done had to be phoned in during the week, as there'd be no one there on my usual Saturday in the office to translate. Over the past 10 years I have used Mighty Maids Mighty Men 5 times for deep cleaning. 3 of those times were to clean my new apartment or house I was moving into. I simply cannot say enough good things about all of my experiences! The cleaners do a fantastic job, with great detail and they work quickly and efficiently. The owner is always really nice and tries really hard to accommodate my schedule and my needs. When I was concerned about getting everything done on a budget, she helped me decide what I wanted to prioritize, so I could get the most important things done, and she made sure that I was happy with how everything was done and that I felt like the new house was clean enough to move into and feel good about. It makes all the difference. When MMMM comes to my house, I know that every dollar is well spent and the job will get done the right way. The men who came to my house were really nice and they made sure that I liked everything that was done. I will call this service again and again and I really recommend it for any type of cleaning job, but especially deep cleaning that requires a lot of detail and care. I am 54 years old and I have never been treated as rudely as I was in attempting to hire Mighty Maids for a move-in clean. The women over the phone (who I think was the supervisor/owner) was confrontational, argumentative, adversarial, and in no way appeared to want my business. I felt like I was being lectured on what type of cleaning supplies to bring. I think she forgot that I was the customer and she was the provider. I'm confused....I've used Mighty Maids for almost two years and they've been wonderful. It took about three visits to find the right "fit" and we found a wonderful one. Gina comes every other week and the place sparkles. And no, we don't have a gorgeous apartment and we have lots of clutter. She works around everything quickly and competently. My experiences with Joanne have been pleasant...they've been accomodating to changes I've had to make and they call if Gina is going to be late. I can't emphasize enough how absolutely fantastic this service is! This spring I had enough with household clutter... It was going to be a major spring cleaning, and I needed help. They sent two wonderful women who helped me organize children's clothes, toys and the closets too. We finished a bit early and they did an incredible job cleaning the living room. Meanwhile we had the mighty men wash out the garage and build shelving to house the stuff we did not donate. I was able to accomplish this work for less than $400. I plan on having them back every year or so to make living in a small place with children doable. Love the owner who always calls me back. read more

The Mighty Men recently cleaned a two-story stairwell in my rental building. Window high on the wall, dirty, cobwebs. My tenant tipped them!, she was so thrilled with the work they did. I have used both Mighty Maids and Mighty Men in my homes and my rental for over twenty years. Job quality for the Maids does vary depending on who they send but if you're not satisfied, they will send someone back to correct. Joanne, the owner, rescues dogs and cats, and they are often in the shop. I admire the rescue work she does, and I appreciate her straightforward style. Perfectly awful, irresponsible and dishonest to boot. One of the cleaning ladies who barely spoke English broke a few of my antique dishes several months ago. The owner picked them up with a promise to replace them though her first suggestion was to try to glue the shattered pieces together. They are antiques and gluing them doesn't replace their value! I've been very patient but months later she not only has NOT replaced them but lied to me several times when I called to ask what the status was. She swore she would call me back over and over but never did. So I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau - which they never responded to. Not only am I out these irreplaceable dishes but the value of my once 12 piece collectible set is ruined. To top it off, the same cleaning lady put a big scratch in my hardwood floor! Save yourself any grief and hire a company with some integrity, even if they cost a bit more! read more

These folks do okay as cleaners. The problem is that when you hire them, you have to deal with the crazy lady that runs the place. (I don't throw the word "crazy" around loosely. This woman is so unhinged its ridiculous.) Even when she's in a good mood, she'll keep you on the phone for 20 minutes giving you baffling and unsolicited life advice. When she's in a bad mood, just forget about getting your house cleaned and walk away from the phone. A company can only be as good as the people who run it and these cleaners are not good enough to make dealing with its owner worth your time. read more

Used mighty maids in April. The person they sent stole a PS4 controller from my home, no doubt. It was noticed missing the same night that the house was cleaned as my son and I had played together late into the night before she arrived. I waited and looked 2 days before I called Joanne to inform her. This is not a charge I make lightly and wanted to be sure before I informed ownership. Their suggested remedy was that the same person come to my house to help look for it. I declined. No action was taken to replace it as I followed up with the owner several times. I am a little surprised by the reviews I have read, I guess it proves people can change when given the chance. I was in a bind and I need my apartment I was moving into cleaned as the landlord had not had it done by his normal cleaners. When I called the phone was promptly answered and the staff explained that there was a 4 hour minimum for the service I needed. They told me that it could take more time depending on the condition of the unit and that I could provide my own supplies or they could provide them for an additional charge. After indicating a time that the cleaners were available I set up an appointment. The guys that clean my place were friendly, professional, and detail led. They cleaned my place in a little over 4 hours and provided all of the materials needs to complete the job. I was SAVED by their services and would recommend them to anyone needing their home cleaned. read more

Just call them and book an appt. You will see what I mean. I called and scheduled a move out cleaning, was quoted prices and everything was cool. The night before the lady called me and quoted me different prices, etc. When I inquired about the prices was quoted she asked how much I had to spend and how long it needed to be done. When I told her I wanted to spend what I was quoted she argued with me and finally agreed to what I was quoted. She then asked if she could come later than the time I had scheduled, "because 9am is sooooo early." Yes, she actually said this. Sadly, Tina is no longer my housecleaner -- she came down with a debilitating and terminal disease and I wish her the best -- but my new made, Irena, is also good. I randomly stumbled upon MIghty Maids when I was looking for someone to clean my already clean home after I had moved in. The previous residents left it nice and clean, but I wanted to have everything scoured before I felt comfortable in it. It was easy to make an appt and I left a detailed note asking for certain things to be done--when I came home, it looked just as I left it and none of the things I'd asked for had been done. I called a few days later because I was still busy unpacking and the woman I spoke with was very RUDE and said off the bat "Well, why did wait 4 days to call to complain?" When I had explained about the note, and I was perfectly polite, the woman RUDELY told me that the workers don't speak or read english. If I had read a previous review, I would have known that, but I didn't and she could not have been less understanding. She told me she could have someone come out and asked if I wanted my windows done while they were there--assuming this was her way to accomodate me, I said yes...but then I saw that my account had been charged an extra $110 for the window cleaning. She was misleading and when I called 4 TIMES following that incident, nobody ever returned my calls. That is highly unprofessional and I would never use them again. read more

DECEPTIVE. Our landlord had mentioned that this place would be great for a move-out clean--great job and inexpensive. We scheduled a cleaning. Went over the costs on the phone prior to the cleaning. Everyone was on the same page it was a MOVE OUT CLEAN. Asked if we wanted to have windows cleaned (we were asked about many things--inside of fridge, baseboards etc.). We said yes. NOT ONCE were we told the windows would be additional. The crew comes. Did a great job. Were there for quite a few hours. We were pleased. A few days later we were charged $330. Totally fine with it. Expected $300 so no big deal. Then a few days later I was charged an additional $185. We call to ask why and Joanne said it was for the window cleaning. We called many times after to dispute the charge since we were never told that was additional PLUS we never once received any form of a receipt for the first charge or the second one. We continued to call but got the runaround. Finally Joanne was suddenly out of town. My husband's cell number appeared to be blocked from calling so I immediately call from my phone and they answer and again supposedly Joanne was out of town. This was shady, sketchy and unprofessional and not to mention deceptive. I will never use them again and neither should you. The maids did a fabulous job. The old cranky lady that handles the phones and the customers should be fired. I Called For Service And She Had Attitude The Whole Time Like new Business Is A Huge Inconvenience. She made a scheduling error with her staff and called to yell at me because of her mistake. They were supposed to start at 12:30pm and her crew got done early so she flipped out that they were sitting around until they started my job-NOT MY PROBLEM. When asked to drop off the keys the door was locked and there were just barking dogs. Some shady looking guy with no uniform or business card approached me and said he works for the company and I should give the keys to him. The crew also went to the wrong address which was a result of their dispatch. Of course I received a call from the cranky old lady yelling at me for their mistake. NOT MY PROBLEM. They should hire someone that can deal with people in a professional manner. read more

If you value your home and your belongings, do NOT do business with this company. They claim to be bonded and insured yet after destroying some of my antique dishes AND signing an agreement in writing to reimburse me for them and for the cleaning, the ownerSTILL refuses to pay what she owes me. I had to hire an attorney to chase her for it! She has lied to me, my attorney and the conflict for center resolutioni in Chicago and skirts every call with promises of calling us back. If something of yours is damaged, say goodbye! And don't try to talk to the cleaning women themselves as very few speak English. And this claim is under $1000. What you would do if something really valuable were destroyed? Please don't reward a dishonest business with good money. Hire a cleaning lady elsewhere! The amount of embarrassment and disappointment I have with MMMM knows no bounds. We used this service for years, twice a year, like clock-work for a deep cleaning when the parental's were coming into town. Over the last couple of years, I've noticed a downward spiral in the quality of service, both in cleaning and in customer relations. The last time I used their service, however, was the straw that broke the camel's back. I was told in no uncertain terms by the (supposedly pet-friendly,) owner that our business wasn't welcome any more after having to deal with listening to our maid scream at the owner for 15+ minutes, (which I *paid* for,) about cat vomit. Only she, (the maid,) told the owner it was feces. I could have DIED of mortification! Look, I understand, cat vomit is really gross, I get it, okay? That's why I cleaned 90% of it up before she came to clean. Telling the owner it was feces? Completely unprofessional. read more

I have used Mighty Maids Mighty Men for years. My maid does a wonderful job. Even when I don't have time to pick up my clutter, she takes care of it and my house feels wonderful when she leaves.
