I wanted to hire a cleaning service to clean my apartment before hosting 50 people for my daughter's first birthday. Big mistake picking this cleaning service. I specified I wanted a deep clean of the kitchen especially, with special attention given to the common areas. When I came home, the cabinets and baseboards of the kitchen were still obviously dirty and appeared to be untouched. I was under the impression they had finished deep cleaning all the rooms and needless to say, I was upset. There was a layer of dust on the baseboards I could pick up with my finger. The morning after, I discovered someone tried to clean my tea kettle but failed to rinse out the soap left in the tea kettle. Needless to say, I ended up having soapy tea because of this. I alerted the owner, Sonia regarding my concerns, to which she said that because I have an old kitchen, it will never look new again. I explained twice to her that my kitchen is not old, I rehabbed it four years ago but she didn't seem to listen to me. I alerted her of my concerns and she did not valid them, just offered to bring in someone to clean for two hours the following day for free. Ok, maybe a bit of a repair. Nope, three people came, one of which was the owner Sonia. She said they would be there for about 45 minutes and clean simultaneously. They were there for maybe 30 minutes and spent most of the time whispering to each other, probably about me. Don't use this service. Their communication is poor and in trying to repair a customer service breakdown, they end up whispering to each other instead of cleaning. If they were more upfront about what was needed to clean my home, I would have been understanding. Instead she made me feel like shit, implying I never clean and it's my fault that they couldn't clean sufficiently. I work four jobs and have an infant daughter, I don't always have the time to deep clean my hone. I was hoping they could help but instead they made me feel like shit and did a subpar job. read more

I really wanted to find a long term cleaning company. Initially it seemed convenient to shoot a text and set something up, but I gave them 2nd chances for a year and things were getting worse rather than improving. They continued to be late, send a diff. group every time so i had to be home to show them around and help locate supplies each time. it took sometimes 2 weeks of following up to schedule an appt. and they really struggled to show up when they promised. I don't understand the disconnect. Sometime I would get a decent clean, othertimes i would get a crew that did the bare minimum and left visible stains all over the wood floors and put my sheets on inside out. Some crews were done in under 2 hours others that did a poor job said they needed 4 hours for the same amount of ppl. I have a relatively clean home so I feel like most crews short cutted me, wiped down surfaces and called it a day. Baseboards and under the beds was dust ball city. In one year my shower fixtures were never cleaned month after month. Between the spotty, inconvenient work and the taking weeks to confirm an appt its just not worth the headache. They are very flexible and accommodate the client's needs - whether an occasional cleaning before or after a move or regular, scheduled cleanings. I have grown with Manic Maids from apartment living to a single family home and the same cleaner every 3 weeks and it's been a smooth relationship. The name is accurate- some of the maids are indeed manic. (One came over to my house, parked in front of a fire hydrant, looked down at the street about 10 minutes after arriving to see that her car was being towed, ran out of my house barefoot and without a coat in 10 degree weather down the street after the tow truck, and never returned... I still have her shoes, socks and coat.) However most of them are really sweet and great at what they do. Couple of thoughts: 1. English is scarce. Sometimes you have to call the office and have someone translate to your maid for you... Not that big a deal but sort of inconvenient. 2. Don't give them your credit card information. They charged my card random amounts twice for no reason... i.e. I had a $75 and $66 debit in my checking account and hadn't had any services. They refunded it right away, but it still pissed me off. 3. The maids do a great job... they have great attention to detail and are very trustworthy handling valuables and just in general. 4. They are inexpensive, only $22 per hour. I have a 3-bedroom place and it takes them 3 hours to do the whole thing top to bottom, including a substantial scour in the bathroom and kitchen. Not a bad deal! I've had some hiccups with this service, but overall they do a great job for a great price, and they are incredibly nice people. Very happy with this service! The price absolutely cannot be beat. I had another company do my place prior and they had 4 people, charged $120 an hour and took over 3 hours so it ended up costing around $350. I live in a 2/2 condo in Bucktown so I came on Yelp looking for a better deal. Manic Maids had one person do my place. She was on time and it took her 5 hours. I did have to provide cleaning materials which was not a big deal. Supplies are cheaper at Target than Dominick's and cost me around $30 and there's plenty left for multiple cleanings. My only complaint is that she broke a candle that I had on a bedside table and my shower doors were off track after she left. I heard the candle break as I work from home and was in the other room and wondered if she would say anything and she didn't. I found it later after she left but wasn't too worried since the candle cost less than $10 and I felt like I was saving a couple hundred on the cleaning compared to what I used to pay. The only reason I mention it is that I would not like it if she broke something of higher value and didn't let me know. Overall, Manic Maids is above average. Specifically: Appointment: Making an appointment was easy. Customer service was good. You can't request a specific time, just morning, afternoon, evening, etc. However, they do their best to accomodate you and give you a confirmation call the day before. Service Level: One maid was on time, the other was 15 min late. Very pleasant ladies. Communication was tough as they spoke very little English. For specific instructions, this would be a major barrier, but for standard cleaning, there should be no issues. ISSUE - it seemed the maids were purposely going slow to extend the time. Each bathroom took one hour, and then both of them were working on the kitchen for 30 minutes. Trust me, my kitchen is small enough that it should only take one person. The maids needed to stay extra time, which wasn't exactly ideal. The quality of their cleaning was good, but not great. They didn't dust in certain areas, for example. Price: pricing is $22/hr, which isn't bad. However, I would recommend outlining specific things you want cleaned in a priority list. It appears something that could be done in 3hrs may be pushed to 4hrs, and so on. read more

My wife and I ran into a bit of a rough spot. Both of us were working major hours and cleaning up the house was not a top priority. We are not slobs by any means but we are far from neat freaks. We were looking for someone to give our place a top to bottom cleaning making it easier to maintain going forward. These guys were very good, very reasonably priced and did a great job! Well because I'm moving out of my place in a month and the landlord is showing the place and I really didn't care to clean the place top to bottom. Esp, when I didn't have the time. So, I looked for services in the area and found Manic Maids. Math Time -1 star for the multiple calls and the extreme confusion that they seem to have at the office - 1 star for the woman cleaning my apt....she picked up her phone *6* times and it's not like she said can I call you back, she actually had conversations with the people. +1 star for the woman staying a tadbit longer to finish the cleaning job. Overall, they are a good service for the money and I'd recommend them to others if they need a quick clean-up. I do warn you that they require a min of a 3 hour service, so if you think your place doesn't need 3 hours, best to look elsewhere. read more

We hadn't thoroughly cleaned our apartment since we moved in over a year ago, and we were in need of some serious help. I felt a little weird about calling a cleaning service, since I feel like I should be able to take care of my own household, but there are just some things that I overlook and don't have time for. With two dogs and long hours at work, we'd accumulated some serious dust and dirt. Blanca from Manic Maids worked wonders in our home. We asked Manic Maids to give special attention to the baseboards, bookshelves, and inside our refrigerator. Not only did they take care of everything we'd requested, they also made sure that the windows and windowsills were spotless, underneath the furniture was clean, and there was not a dog hair in sight. Not even worth trying Manic Maids I was completely dissatisfied with their service. I had big hopes for them due to the wonderful reviews on here. But my experience was negative. Basically, I'd compare it to me doing pretty good work cleaning my apartment. For those of you who have not experienced my cleaning your apartment...don't hold your breath! Clean, but by no means thorough. If you're looking for a quick clean up, you could do worse. If you're looking for a good scrub, you could do much better. Looking around my apartment over the last 24 hours, I've noticed more and more half-assedness. Many dust bunnies, no cleaning behind anything that required moving, or if the had to move behind/around an object. Pretty poor. read more

Honestly, I was a bit skeptical about having a stranger in my house, as this is the first time I hire this service. However, when I came home after a long day... I was pleased to see and smell a fantastic clean little house. One minor thing I didn't like was the poor job the maid did with washing the dishes. However, it was no big deal. Manic Maids - $25 per hour and you provider all supplies. Used Manic Maids with my boyfriend for about 9 months. There were continuous mix ups about when the maid was going to come or not. She also spoke almost no English, which was not that big of a deal. We asked for someone to come in 2 times per week but was told that was not possible, they can only do mon tues or wed. After much going back and forth we started having someone come on Sat morning. Maid could only come from 9am, so every Sat we woke up to have the cleaning done. We set no time limit, just asked for your 1 br apt to be cleaned. The cleaning was consistently done poorly. Carpet wasn't vacuumed, counters not washed, clothes were left on the floor and on the furniture not folded and put away, laundry not done, bed not changed or even made, trash and cleaning supplies in the middle of the apartment when she was done cleaning instead of put them away. There were multiple ongoing issues which we kept informing the cleaning service about: she put the chef knife in the dishwasher, put wool sweaters in the washing machine, and the cleaning problems per above. At $25 per hr, unlimited time, unlimited / any supplies (we purchased exactly was requested) it's hard to believe that the quality of the work was so poor. I would not recommend this service to anyone. You're wasting your time, money, and energy. I attempted to reach out to management about these ongoing issues multiple times and they persisted. read more

This is the first time I've hired some one to clean my place, but it definitely won't be the last. A quick browse around yelp reviews gave me some really helpful advice about pitfalls to avoid when using a cleaning service, and I found that when I made a specific list of everything I did and did not want cleaned, things were done exactly as I had asked. The man who booked the appointment with me didn't seem to be jerking me around about hours and cost - when I made my list, he told me what things would or would not take a lot of time, and everything he said sounded reasonable - and the service took exactly as long and cost exactly as much as the estimate. Oh, and my apartment has never been anywhere near this clean. Caveat: the job came in on the high end of the estimate (he estimated 3-4 hours and it took 4), and I'm guessing what I wanted done could probably have been done in about 3.5. Next time I call (oh yeah - there'll be a next time), I'll probably 1) figure out what they charge for partial hours, and 2) be a little pushier about time. This is a minor complaint - they seem to be a little cheaper than most services, and what I got was well worth what I paid. I'm sure they'll tell you this when you call, but you have to provide your own cleaning supplies - not having to use a van or truck or whatever is what keeps them cheap. read more

A few months ago, my longtime cleaning lady (10 years) retired and moved back to her home country. Realizing it would be challenging to find someone who could be as thorough as she was, I figured I would try a couple of companies with high yelp/google ratings. Hired them for an apartment move out cleaning in the hopes of using them at the new place too. They did an okay job but charged for five hours for two people when they were there only four. We were present the entire time and noted the times. The service wasn't good enough to write off the $40+ as deserved. I've written a few reviews on this Web site but they are ALWAYS hidden...probably because I gave glowing reviews of a service/business that I loved. So, only 4 stars and we'll see if this review is NOT hidden. Looking at some of the other reviews for Manic Maids, they range from one star to five stars. Obviously each reviewer has had a different experience. For the most part, it may depend on the particular individual sent to do the cleaning. For the better part of a year (more or less). Manic Maids has been sending me a woman named Jackie. I could not be happier with her service! I work from home and I am friendly and easy going. I also have several dogs of all sizes (small to really big). I'm not sure when it started but Jackie began bringing dog treats for the dogs and a donut for me. (I keep telling her she doesn't earn enough to be spending money on us but she continues to do so.) When she arrives (the dogs absolutely love seeing her), I make an espresso to enjoy with the donut and we discuss what cleaning needs to be attended to. For the most part, there are the "regular" tasks...floors, the kitchen range, the dogs' food bowls, certain windows, and the bath. Of course there is also the dusting of book shelves and such. Beyond that, I occasionally ask for something specific or leave it to Jackie to tell me what she sees that needs attention. Jackie comes every two weeks. We all (my dogs and I) look forward to her arrival. After a 15 minute "orientation" during which she hands out the dog treats, I have my espresso and the donut that Jackie has brought for me, and we discuss what special things need attention, I get back to my computer to do my job as Jackie attends to hers. Three hours later, when Jackie leaves, my place is nice and clean. I can understand the previous reviews which range from a single star to five stars. The experience each reviewer has had is often dependent on the person that was sent to do the cleaning. I can also see that a problem could arise with the information (or lack thereof) being shared by the office. My experience has been excellent but a relationship has been built up over time. Employing the service only once, and not having a happy experience can lead to a one star rating. Having said that, my experience with Jackie has been so good that when she was not available, I was unwilling to have Manic Maids send someone else in her place. I merely said that I would wait till her next availability. My final thought is that the people who are sent to do the cleaning are human beings who deserve respect. Treat them with consideration and it may be reflected in the quality of the services that you receive. read more

We have utilized Manic Maids for about two years. We have stayed not because of quality of service, but to avoid the pain of finding another service. However, I am finally fed up too much. They lady would usually come for three hours, but last time she did not even clean for the entire three hours and the quality of the cleaning was at most mediocre. There is also a language barrier. Most of the women were unable to speak English and thus we could not properly communicate about expectations and how I would like them to clean. They showed up on time and did a fabulous job cleaning -- I'm afraid to move around in my apartment for fear of getting it dirty again! I connected with Manic Maid through a google search of many cleaning services. I needed a thorough apartment clean up for a "move out/move in". I connected with Anna, at Manic Maids. I shared with her my extensive "things to do list". I am a VERY picky person with special attention to details. Anna, said, no problem and sent me Minerva. Minerva took care of everything on my "things to do list". I know she was thorough because she cleaned insides of cabinets and found things in the cabinets, that I didn't even know were left behind by the prior tenant. I've used other cleaning services, and I had to go behind them and clean. I felt that I received EXCELLENT service and will surely connect with Manic Maids again. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND FOR POST CONSTRUCTION CLEANUP. We were totally upfront with everything we wanted done (basically clean the windows and dust everywhere) but as usual none of that actually get's communicated to the crew doing the cleaning. Even if it did, I doubt it would have made much difference. The crew that was sent took no pride in what they were doing and basically gave the place a once over. Had to call them back out the following day to finish which fortunately we didnt have to pay for, but even then we had to lead the guy around and check over everything that he said he was done with b/c he was still half a$$ing it. Feel like the crew was a group of temp workers bc they certainly didn't know how to clean very well. One of them even broke a couple light bulbs in the closet and didnt even bother to clean them up. read more

I've been using Manic Maids for 13 years to clean my office each week. While the personnel changes from time to time, each one has been reliable, courteous, and very, very careful around our expensive computer and video equipment. Of course, in any long term business relationship there are hiccups now and then, especially when they unexpectedly lose an employee and need to scramble to replace him or her. But on the whole those problems haven't been enough to warrant less than 5 stars. Every so often, when a new person starts we need to show them around and point out things that might be missed, but that's to be expected. One caveat: Not being Spanish speakers, we have run into a language barrier several times, but with a smile and a little gesturing, we can always work things out. read more

The first few times I used Manic Maids, the cleaning was great. The last couple of times I wonder why I even bothered. Several places (ceiling fans/windows) in my apartment were completely ignored - they were pretty obvious and I mentioned them when booking my appointment. In the kitchen, there was a large amount of dust ON the countertop. This dust came from the floor in the dining room (I had just had a portion of drywall fixed) I assume she dusted the walls/furniture and left the cloth on the kitchen counter and it all ended up back in the air. Just a careless, annoying mistake. I can count on at least one thing to be broken - not expensive things, but anytime you have someone come in to clean your house, you expect them to be more careful. The average time it takes to clean is longer when you are not home - It took 3 hours when I was home and 5 hours when I was not home...the apartment wasn't dirtier or bigger than the times I was at home. I think she was just moving at a slower pace. read more

Shelves were dusted, baseboards wiped down, she even hand-scrubbed the tile in my bathroom! It all looks amazing and I'm so happy. So far, not impressed. I used these folks 10 years ago when I moved into my first condo. Had them do a "move-in" cleaning. Now, moving to a new condo, need the same thing. Appointment was for 8am today and so far, they haven't shown up. That's not nice when I have to be at work. Update 1: Called their office and spoke to Sonia who apologized for the situation. Seems they had a server crash and they lost some appointments. She promised to offer a free cleaning and that she would send a crew tomorrow. Will let you know how it goes. Update 2: The cleaners showed up right on time and had the job done in 2 hours. My floors, kitchen, blinds and bathrooms are spotless. Thanks Sonia and crew for a job well done. I've used them quite a few times with different properties I own. You supply the supplies, which I totally prefer. This way I know what is being used. The arrive on time. The clean as instructed. I typically only have basic cleaning done; floors swept, mopped, trash thrown out, kitchen and bathroom cleaned, etc. They always do a great job and leave my place looking wonderful. read more

We used Manic Maids to clean the common areas in our condo building. It consisted of vacuuming, wiping down windows and changing light bulbs. They would consistently have to be reminded to change the light bulbs and left dust and cobwebs in the corners. This was my first time using the manic maid service. I loved how they helped me through text message, it was very convenient! Chris, the employee who was helping me through text, was very attentive on how the process works and how the payment is handled afterwards. I also really appreciated that they checked in and asked how the place looked and if everything was good. Guadalupe spent about 3 hours at our 1 bedroom apartment really detailing the entire house. My boyfriend thought she replaced the drain because it was so clear he didn't possibly think it was the same one! We are extremely pleased with the results and will be using the service again soon.
