We had two cleaners come by and they did a really detailed job, even though it had been a while since our last cleaning. Very disappointed with almost every part of my experience with this company. I am only writing this review after trying to work directly with the company first. I scheduled a move-in cleaning for the morning of my move at 9 am. I also specified what services I was looking to have done (including cleaning the inside of the fridge and oven). I live in a street whose name sounds a lot like another common street name when said aloud, so I spelled the street name for him (I know it confuses people when they aren't read the name, so I spell it out literally 100% of the time I give my address out over the phone). The day of service and of my move, I got to my new place at 9 and waited for 45 minutes for the cleaners to arrive. Apparently Dan did not write down the correct street name or pay attention when I spelled it out and sent the cleaners to a wrong address. I literally had no spare time that day as I had to finish packing and get my old place cleaned out. I wasted 45 minutes I didn't have sitting around waiting. When the cleaners texted me saying they were done I was only able to spare a few minutes to check the work, because of all the time I had wasted that morning waiting for them put me behind. It turns out they had not cleaned the inside of the fridge, so I needed to sit and wait for them to do that. Even after all of this I still gave cleaners a decent tip because I didn't want to punish them for someone else giving them bad info. After they finished, I emailed Dan, my point of contact with the company, asking for a total price as the job had taken l as time than estimated. When he replied the next day saying it I would be charged for 2.5 hours when it was 2-2.25 hours at most, as I had to sit and wait for them to clean something I had requested, I was upset and emailed and spoke on the phone regarding how that was an overestimated time (and the cleaners did not provide me with the time sheet I was supposed to initial) and shared how badly a very difficult day was made by them showing up 45 minutes late. Also, after I moved in I found rooms they said they were able to fully clean were not clean (see pictures below). To summarize my customer service interactions with Dan, he claims I am trying to get some for nothing, even though I am only asking to pay for the time cleaners were actually here (2.25 at most) despite the poor job which will mean me taking time to reclean those areas. He told me to send him pictures of the areas that were not clean, he did not really respond to the pictures and just charged me for 2.5 hours without us coming to any conclusion or understanding. When I said I would be writing an honest review of my experience with his company, he said he would respond by publishing my full name and address. His company's "customer service " response apparently is to dox their customers if they don't leave a positive review. You may be more familiar with doxing as a tactic men often use against women online when they don't like what they have to say. If the pictures attached look clean enough for you, if you don't care when cleaners arrive for a scheduled appointment, if you don't mind being overcharged (paying for time spent watching them clean something that should have been done prior to saying everything was done), and if customer service threatening to dox you by publishing you full name and address for an unfavorable review seems appropriate, I highly recommend this company. I've worked with multiple cleaning companies in Chicago, all with fabulous reviews and ratings. One was totally unreliable and kept cancelling, and another sent cleaners that did a very mediocre job. Yet another just would never call or email me back, so they lost my business. We just had our first cleaning from Maid for Chicago and it was great. I like that I can email them in advance to request specific additional items (like cleaning out the fridge) and they did an amazing job. I am a perfectionist about my house and they met my expectations, which my husband had concluded couldn't be done. I also like that rather than having contractors, this company actually employs their cleaners, which is a practice I'd like to support. read more

I don't really write Yelp reviews. If I had written one previously, I think it was years ago and probably under an old email address. So you know I must be pretty inspired to write one. The cleaning team who came out was very nice but there were a few issues. For instance, losing the keys I gave them the first time I met them. The other issue, is the owner will give you a time they will show up at, and then the team will unexpectedly show up at another time. Which is kind of an inconvenience. But those two issue are no biggies, the big problem is they don't stay the time reported and will charge for more than the time they were in my home. The home 'unoccupied/occupied' feature on my Ecobee let me easily track this (I don't like to be home when they are cleaning). And I am not talking about 10 or 15 minutes off, but 30, 60, and 30 minutes respectively for three of the four times I was serviced. So after the first two times (when they were doing longer jobs since I was a new customer) I was charged for more than the time than the team stayed (which again, I could see thanks to my Ecobee). I had to call in to the owner and get my bill adjusted. He basically called it a 'mixup' with the time estimate he told me and the time he told the team to clean (Funny though, how each time the 'mixup' was in his favor in terms of the amount charged). The third week they stayed the regular two hours they are said to work for. Did a good job and I got charged for the two hours. Fourth week, they arrived 90 minutes earlier than the scheduled time that I was told by the owner Dan. That's when I found out they didn't have the copy of the keys I had given them. They claimed I never game it to them, but then I was thinking to myself, how did they get in the previous two cleanings? Whatever, no biggie. But I told them to give me 30 minutes as I wasn't showered, etc and I don't like to loom over them when they work. So at 1:30 pm, I let them in to work and I left. I got back at 3:10 with a new set of keys but they were gone. (I don't know what time they actually left as I didn't check my Ecobee, but at best it was still 20 minutes short of 2 hours). I am thinking to myself no biggie, but I wanted to call the owner Dan just to make sure I was billed for the correct amount of time since I was thought they were suppose to clean for at least 2 hours and especially given the 'mixup' for the first 2 weeks. Then all hell broke loose and this guy Dan freaks out on my on the phone. He keeps telling me you have a 2 hour minimum. And that's it on the website. I said, I know that, but they didn't stay for two hours. But he kept trying to do this deflection and twisted logic to claim I don't want to pay for 2 hours. I keep telling him whatever the time they stayed for is what I will pay for. He says something to the effect that they must have been done cleaning and that's why they left early. I think any person with common sense knows cleaning is one of those things 'you are never really done with'. In other words, you can always do more. I don't expect my place to be spot less after each cleaning. I think of it as a long term ongoing project where I pay for whatever time serviced to me. And after each time there were easily spotted areas that were not cleaned, which again is fine if you are putting in the time I am paying for. He gets frustrated, as I think he realizes this is a customer he can't bamboozle and says he won't have the team out there anymore. He then threatens me about writing a bad review. Hilariously, I had never even mentioned the word 'review' on the phone. He just brings it up out of the blue. I am just like I never even said the word 'review' and I ask him why he brought it up...he goes off on how other people leave him bad reviews, etc. And I thinking to myself with this type of attitude and my experiences so far, 'I can see why.' He then tries to 'negotiate' with me, that he will charge me for less time if I don't write a review. Again, I never even mentioned the word 'review'. But after some of the goings on back and forth with him, his review idea sounded great to me. I didn't want to negotiate with him over a lousy few bucks...it was more the point of it and that this seemed like a trend that needed to be stopped. The next day he sends me an email saying that after talking to the team, he admitted the team didn't stay for 2 hours but 90 minutes and agrees to charge me for that time. Now mind you this is the 3rd time out of the first four weeks this crap has happened. AND THE MOST IMPORTANT THING is if I didn't say anything he would have just charged me. Obviously, he can make more money by having his teams move from home to home quicker. This is 'fast food' cleaning and dishonesty. I've had a lot of issues with a few past cleaning companies: showing up late, scratching surfaces and not taking ownership, and just not doing a very thorough job. I found Maid for Chicago through Yelp and after reading all of the great reviews I thought I'd give them a try. From the get-go, owner Dan was great to talk to. He understood my past issues and based on that, set me up with a team of two who he thought would be perfect. Today was our first cleaning with Ana and Leonor, a mother-and-daughter team who couldn't be nicer and they were terrific. They arrived 10 minutes early to unload and set up and started exactly on time. They were so thorough and did such a great job that I am going to continue to work with Maid for Chicago on a bi-weekly basis. Another bonus is that the staff are full-time and not contractors, which I fully support. Couldn't be happier and hopefully, this is the last company I need to try...seems to be that way based on day one. read more

I wanted to leave a review because I am the type of person who always reads reviews looking for someone who has a similar experience. So, if you are reading cleaning service reviews because your place is really dirty and disorganized, and you are physically limited or chronically ill or disabled, please continue reading. I have been struggling with chronic illness for a few years and was relying on family to help me around the house with cleaning and maintenance. Obviously that all changed since covid and things really got out of control here. I reached out for a bunch of quotes but ultimately picked Dan because I really like that they pay their workers as employees and not contractors and the price was reasonable. Plus they were able to come on my preferred date. The two women who cleaned here were friendly and compassionate. I opted to put my cat in another room while they were here and leave to give them space to clean. It was a big job here and they knocked it out in 3 hours. When I came back, I immediately started crying. I have never seen the place so clean! If they didn't know where to put something, they set it aside very thoughtfully and neatly, which makes it much easier for me to sort through and put away. It was such a relief and also a great head start for me to continue further organizing and decluttering. I am so grateful! I even emailed Dan as soon as they left to let him know how happy I was with the service. Maid for Chicago Review I tried so many times to make it work with this company because Dan the owner is a genuinely nice guy. But over and over again, problems arose. The first couple times, they did a really really great job but after that it just got worse and worse. For example, once I came home early and one of the employees was sitting on the couch on her cell phone. The next time, they left scuff marks from a mop or broom handle on my pitches ceilings. During a separate cleaning, a part of my blinds was broken off. Another time, after noticing they didn't clean underneath the dressers and crib previously, I specifically asked Dan to make sure they did it for the next cleaning. Not only did they not, but someone threw away a reusable part of my diaper pail system when emptying the diaper pail (which they had never even touched in any of the previous cleanings). This company is extremely inconsistent and does not pay attention to details. Often, it looked as if parts of the floor and bathrooms were not touched at all. Urine was left around the base of toilets, fingerprints left on appliances, and drip marks left on the floor. Outlet plugs were left in random places and things that were unplugged for vacuuming were not plugged back in. Dan talks a great game, but the devil is in the details and this company has proved over 3 years of cleaning my house that the quality of service does not match the cost to the customer. read more

Not the kind of people you want in your home. Given the owners are very combative on Yelp, I will state only facts below along with a photo illustrating the quality of their clean. I requested a quote from Dan and told him my place required a deep clean. He quoted 7 hours via Yelp. When I called to arrange an appointment, I was very clear that my apartment hadn't been cleaned in a few months and would require some extra elbow grease; an employee then quoted 8 hours. Turns out, it took them 8 hours to clean only half of my place, basically just the kitchen and 2 bathrooms. Dan said it took longer than expected because I hadn't cleared out the cabinets (was never instructed to do so) and that it takes a crew of two people two hours per person to take items out of kitchen cabinets. Had I known this would be the case, I could've simply removed the few pots and pans from the cabinets in a few minutes. Although they spent 2 hours each taking items out of the cabinets, they didn't even do a thorough job cleaning the cabinets (see the attached photo). To summarize, you should expect Maid For Chicago to take twice as long as estimated and to do a mediocre job. Despite their claims, 100% satisfaction is not guaranteed. Good luck trying to reason with the management as it's abundantly clear that they don't care about their clients after getting paid. read more

I had a very unpleasant experience with this company. In the end, the owner was willing to work with me to address some of my issues, but I am still very uneasy about the whole thing and cannot in good conscious recommend this business. I've never hired a cleaning service before, but I was preparing to move into a new condo and didn't have time to do a deep clean prior to move-in. I called a few places and settled on Maid for Chicago because of their reasonable prices and solid Yelp reviews. My cleaning was scheduled for a Thursday at 1 p.m. A day or two before the cleaning, the owner called asking me if I could reschedule the appointment for noon. I agreed. Because this was on a weekday afternoon and I wasn't comfortable leaving my keys with the service, I had to arrange work meetings around the appointment so I could plan to get over to the condo in the middle of the day to let the cleaners in. I was standing on the El platform about 40 minutes before the appointment when I got a call from the owner saying the crew would be late and wouldn't arrive until 12:30. I was irritated, but what could I do? I almost stopped for lunch since I had extra time, but luckily I didn't and was there when the crew arrived...at 12:13. If I'd waited until 12:30 to arrive, I probably would have missed them. So I was very irritated about these scheduling issues right off the bat. Still, the two women who arrived to clean were very pleasant, and I walked them through the space with specific instructions for each room. The condo was empty at the time and there were a number of things I told the cleaners they did NOT have to do, like clean the hardwood floors or several new light fixtures, etc. So basically, it amounted to an easier deep clean job than the norm. Flash forward to that evening. I came back to inspect the work and was very disappointed to see that the cleaners did a poor job. A bunch of stuff hadn't been touched: only half of my kitchen cabinets had been cleaned, the inside of the stove and the microwave were dirty, the bathroom floor was disgusting. So I emailed and texted the owner with a few photos and stressed my displeasure. I also indicated that I didn't think I should be charged for a full deep clean because full services had not been rendered. The owner, Dan, got back to me right away, which I appreciated especially because this was later in the evening. After reviewing the photos I sent, he agreed the cleaning was not up to par and offered to have another crew come out and finish the job the next day at no additional cost. That was not something that was an option for me because I was moving in the following day and didn't have time for another cleaning crew to come in. I explained this and instead asked for a partial refund. And this is where things got super weird. The owner suddenly became very defensive and said that refunds weren't allowed and because the website said nothing about refunds, it should be a given that they have a no-refund policy. He also started insulting his own crew, the women who had worked at my home, saying that they "weren't his smartest workers" and that "they couldn't follow instructions unless they have everything written down for them." This left a sour taste in my mouth. Why send over a crew you knew couldn't do the job? Nothing had been written down for them. And why insult members of your own team? That is not what a good boss does. I had to go back and forth with this guy for a while, and the conversation became what I would classify as hostile. Ultimately he agreed to refund me $50 of the total charge of the cleaning, which I agreed to. Unfortunately, I discovered even more things that the cleaners had missed after my conversations with Dan, so I still feel that I paid $90 for basically nothing. I also was very upset with the owner's interpretation of customer service. Although I appreciated the partial refund, at the end of the day, I would never go back to this company again. read more

I knew that Suzie wouldn't stick to her promise to give me the last word. She and Dan can't control themselves. She just doesn't get that the purpose of Yelp is for people to review businesses. She misinterprets the fact the businesses are allowed to respond with excuses or promises to do better as a license to personally attack and insult her clients. The ladies did a pretty good job of cleaning, however it wasn't anything spectacular. They just got in spots that I normally wouldn't have bothered with, which is why I scheduled this to begin with. Actually, the refrigerator cleaning was pretty awesome, so I'll give them that! Because I wasn't going to be home to explain what I needed, I wrote out a list, but I was told it was very detailed and could possibly take longer than my original quote for a deep-cleaning. The ladies mentioned SEVERAL times how detailed it was. However, everything on my list was taken off of their website directly (except for cleaning the blinds, which I agreed to just let them dust), so there was no reason why my requests should have been any more complicated. I still got criticized for being a difficult customer. I'm so sorry I asked a cleaning service to clean my closet!!! The main reason I only gave 1 star is because a kitchen item went missing that was in plain view. I did not think it was stolen, as no one who steal a random invaluable kitchen item. However, many items were not in their original locations, and because it was on the floor originally, I assumed they moved it to mop. So I did not notice it until later. I know for a fact it was there earlier, and it was not when they were done. I don't know what happened to it, but no one would admit it was moved or accidentally thrown out or broken. All I wanted was a $30 refund for the missing item, but Dan refused to provide this. He said he's never had a customer like me before and knew that he was going to have issues with me prior to scheduling. He handled this extremely unprofessionally. He got super defensive and responded very immaturely in emails that got completely out of control. I felt like I was fighting with my little brother. It got to the point where I ended up feeling uncomfortable that this man knows where I live, has my phone number, and email address. I have other issues with this service that would be too long to explain. One reason is that Suzie was super difficult in emails and kept changing the time on me when I needed a specific time due to my work schedule. What it comes down to is that they couldn't be professional and mature, and who wants to deal with a business owner like that? read more

Loved that they showed up early and were friendly. They were also able to accommodate us on short notice, which is greatly appreciated. They generally did a good job wiping down our already fairly clean space. I followed up with a more thorough dusting and vacuumed a forgotten staircase after they left. I had also requested a green clean and they ended up using Clorox in the bathrooms due to one of the showers having tougher spots. I would've preferred a gentler clean (even if not perfect) due to my allergies and having a young baby. Make sure whatever you request while booking is documented and repeat it to the crew before and during their work to ensure smooth sailing. The managing office is highly responsive, which is a plus. I would consider working with them in the future as needed and following my own advice mentioned here for 5/5 cleaning. read more

Almost perfect. The only thing that knocks off one star is that loads of items were put back into locations I'd never had them in. Just a minor annoyance, like "WTF, where's the scale that was in the corner of the bathroom?!" Oh wait, it's under the cabinet. (?!) Or I'd be in the shower like, "Where the hell did my body wash go?!" And then I'd find it later under the cabinet. I'm sure they're moving quickly since they're trying to do a great job on the clock, but damn, son, if I am wet in the shower and can't find something that used to BE in the shower, that is irksome. Cleaning job was a solid A-. They did way better than I could do and far better than Scrubzz, but maybe next time I won't request the green clean, because I want that bathtub to gleam like a Hollywood star's veneers. Overall I was very pleased. Place looked and smelled great when I walked in, and it definitely had that "just been cleaned by pros" feel. Also, how the hell do they get mirrors so clean and streak-free? It's like magic that I cannot accomplish with any product including a squeegee and/or newspaper. I dunno.
