Not sure why I haven't left a review for this spot yet I've been here a bunch of times already. They open pretty early, so it's a solid place to grab pho or other Vietnamese eats in the morning. I usually go for the pho dac biet, but I've also tried the hu tieu and the banh mi xiu mai, which were both pretty decent. Lately, I've been especially into their pho the broth tastes lighter and cleaner (less oily), which I really like. They also do a great job with their takeout game everything is packed well. Prices are reasonable too, which is probably why I keep coming back. Whenever I'm around El Monte these days, this is my go-to lunch spot. read more

My friends and I were seated quickly. The food was good and they were very accommodating at everything we needed. Customer service was great. The restaurant is well cleaned. Anyplace with pickled peppers is usually a win for me (I devoured their little container of them lol). Upon paying for our bill, the cashier offered us free green tea. Stopped by this place after finishing a workout at a nearby gym. This used to be Pho Hien Mai (iykyk), became Mien Tay, and now they're under a new name - Saigonese. Yelp profile hasn't been made to reflect any changes, so I'll stick to using this. Came by to order pho dac biet to-go with peach tea. The staff knows Eng, but sticking with Viet was easier. Cantonese is spoken here too. Food came out fast and went home to enjoy my lunch. Nice staff is a plus. The pho was great! The broth was balanced, so I didn't make any adjustments to it. Came in toward a late afternoon, wanted to try the famous "xíu mại" Vietnamese meatball with a baguette. Service was good, although it was slow so the workers also had their lunch time. The xíu mại was okay, although i had a slight issue with the middle part of the meatball being cold. The price was $8 for the small item with a baguette. Mien Tay has a variety of Vietnamese noodle soup options. Come here for the banh mi xiu mai. Banh Mi Xiu Mai: How does a meatball sandwich sound for breakfast? The large meatball (or is it a meatloaf) contains minced pork and diced jicama. It is in a small bowl filled with a savory tomato and tapioca sauce. The giant crispy baguette is fluffy on the inside. Tear off chunks of the bread and spoon some of the meatball and the sauce onto it. There's also a quail egg in the meatball. Dining Area: The dining area is spacious with about 10 tables. Came for the first time for lunch on a Friday. It's located in a plaza with plenty of parking. Inside was very new and clean. We ordered a #1 pho dac biet and a #8 hu tieu with egg noodles (chiu chow noodles). The pho came out first. We tasted the broth before mixing it up and it had a light sweet flavor. However, after I mixed the noodles, added the basil and bean sprouts the broth became very bland. Meats were good though and rice noodles cooked just right. The hu tieu with soup was a total let down. It didn't taste nor include all the ingredients in your typical hu tieu. There was no pork kidney, no fish cake and the broth tasted mostly of soy sauce. They even used the wrong type of the egg noodles. However, the noodle soup did taste good. Had they called it something else, house special noodles or something, I would have enjoyed it better. But cause they named it hu tieu, I had a certain expectation of the authentic hu tieu flavor. This was not it. Service was minimal. I might return to try the bun tieu. read more

Decent restaurant for Vietnamese food. They have a big menu and I got to try multiple things. From favorite to least favorite: Pho, Bun Rieu, Hu Tieu (Hay Mi) Bo Kho, Bun Thit Nuong Cha Gio, Bun Bo Hue. Pho had a generous portion of meat, fresh soft noodles, and a flavorful broth. That's why it was my favorite. As for the bun bo hue, the broth was not rich or spicy enough. The meats were a bit dissapointing. I would have liked to see some pork blood or pork knucles in it. I think they changed ownership. Since the bowl of Banh canh is a lot bigger but the quality stays the same, they took out quail eggs which is my fav part of the bowl but it's okay. Decided to come here as we were in the area for lunch and got a dish to go for dinner as well. Located in a mixed residential and industrial area, this restaurant is serving up authentic viet food at a great price. Service: It was pretty quiet but we did come on a weekday. Nevertheless, server was good and everything came pretty quickly. Food: Special pho - noodles cooked to right texture, lots of beef and assortment of meats, broth was delicious, plenty of bean sprouts and basil leaves. 5/5. Took the vermicelli to go and it was delicious. The pork has a nice sweet sauce/glaze which is a bit different than other viet places. The meat is not super thin which I appreciate getting more meat. I have returned for another visit! I had to have the meatloaf again. It's so addicting. I also tried the egg rolls. I love that they give some mint leave with it. I wrap it all together and dip in the fish sauce. Yummy yummy. I had the wonton soup that was very good too. I loved the scallions cooked in the broth. What else...I tried the lychee lemonade. Between this restaurant and a closer to me, the Bánh mì (Xiu Mai Chen) is a personal favorite of mine for many years now. I was happy to have dined here while on a brief visit last year to see some friends in the area. Many of my close friends and family are Vietnamese, so this and homemade phở have become comfort foods. I'm giving 5 stars because I like supporting establishments with less than 100 reviews. I regular Kim Kee/Ky, Sam's Noodle Station, Mien Nghia, Macky's, or any place that specializes in hu tieu and this place has a great taste! The broth is light and not as salty as Mien Nghia or msg heavily like some of the Kim Kee/Ky so you can easily finish the whole bowl. Their shrimp (they give 3!) is not bad and had a great amount of sliced pork (7) & some ground. I enjoy the addition of quail eggs, pork cracklings, dried shrimp, celery, and lettuce since others don't have this. It really created this alternative hu tieu I haven't had before. For $11 tax included, I was satisfied. Their pickled jalapeños and daikon radish is a really nice touch! Not overly spicy, the sweetness from both pickled veggies adds a nice touch (and the crunch from daikon!) sets this place apart from others. Their satay sauce that goes with the hu tieu was different from Cantonese, Taiwanese, or Indo/Malay satay..like a Vietnamese one (of course), strong nutty chili with lemongrass in your face. I wouldn't be surprised this is the seasoning oil for Bun Bo Hue. Add just a bit to transform your soup or dry noodle. The banh mi xiu mai was surprisingly great and delicious. Juicy meatloaf-like aftertaste with a sweet initial bite. I would come here and get this by itself because not much Viet places have this on menu. Also great price $7 for the portion. I don't go to the area as often; I do regularly go to the other hu tieu places near me, but this place has earned me as a returning customer. Great Vietnamese food that's HEALTHY! finally tried a new dish I haven't seen before. The meatloaf with the bread M5 and the egg noodles dry M2. Both were new to me and really good. I liked that the prices already include taxes so no surprises there. The egg noodles had a slight sauce on the bottom that were good to have on its own. I had the broth by itself as it is the way I prefer it but you can mix them if you want. The bread was hot and ok. Could've been more moist but still steamy upon arrival. Good to dip on the meatloaf. Really enjoyed the food here. The pho was delicious and not oily. The thai tea was great and I haven't had it in awhile. The banh mi was great, you have to mixed the xiu mi and put it on the bread. The service was good and quick. The interior is pretty big and spacious. They had light music playing the in background and a TV showing wildlife. A friend of mine recommended this place for lunch and we ended up getting the mi vit tiem, the Saigon-style duck egg noodles. The broth was so rich and flavorful pairing with the noodles. They also give you a nice portion of duck leg with it. My wife even mentioned how it tastes better with the garlic satay sauce and the pickled papaya. However, it's only offered on Saturday and Sunday, selling out quick too. After eating, I ordered 3 more for takeout for my family, but they only had 2 left because of how popular it is.
