Came here with the parents and I ordered a regular pho bowl and egg rolls. The pho bowl was large and soup was warm and comforting. I unfortunately didn't love their egg roll filling or flavor. It wasn't as expected or wasn't what I'm use to, although the eggrolls were made very well. There is a small parking lot located in the back, but we parked in the plaza parking and just walked over. Sad to announce they changed owners and quite possibly the chef as well. I came once last month and wasn't happy with the broth. I came again with my mom to try it one last time. My mom ordered a large bowl and the noodles were still in a bundle not fully cooked which made for a hard bire. My mom didn't touch her bowl afterwards. The flank was tough, making it tiring to chew. This place is filthy and the pho broth tastes sour. The restaurant also has a weird smell upon walking in. Service is nonexistent would never come back to this location ever again. If you speak Vietnamese, you will get special service and be treated like a king and queen. The servers would come every 2-3 minutes to your table if you speak Vietnamese or know the servers/ owner. We had chili sauce at the table and one of the servers just grabbed our chili sauce without saying anything and gave it to the other table. The servers don't understand English either. A friend recommended me to try the pho here. Happy to say he had a solid suggestion! The restaurant is located in a weird little plaza, but they do have free parking available in the lot. Their pho was delicious. I ordered the chicken soup with chicken stock. It was so clean. They served me half a chicken, so I had to pick at the bones. I also ordered the fried egg roll appetizer, which was amazing. I love that it comes with all the green veggies. I must have eaten more veggies that meal than in the entire week! Let's start with the Pho Dac Biet: The broth was not bad, it definitely hit the spot on a cool overcast day like today, but it's not stand out special. 3/5. The noodles tasted exactly what rice noodles should taste like with good texture. 4/5 The meat is where I will dock it for points. The beef had a strange funk to it, almost gamey which is not something you normally get from fresh quality beef. I also ended up with a huge piece of silver skin on one of the pieces making it impossibly tough and chewy. The amount of meat is above average at this price point so that earns it a little bit of credit...2/5. Goi Cuon: The pork tasted porky but I felt it lacked seasoning, the flavor was a bit muted unfortunately. 2/5. The shrimp was almost lost because there was so little of it; decided to pull a piece out to try on its own and I would say its texture was a bit on the overcooked and rubbery side. 1/5. I felt like something was missing and then I realized there was no herbs in these. I suppose I'm too used to having either Thai basil or mint leaves to give these that hint of freshness. 2/5. The sauce was peanuty and creamy, it helped this dish tremendously... But sauce alone is not enough for me to recommend this dish. Vietnamese Coffee: The first thing that hit me was sticker shock for the amount you get to the price charged. Price aside it was a very delightful cup of Vietnamese coffee. Pho Filet 2 was the pick for a family weekend brunch. They have a parking lot located on Newmark Ave, but it has limited spots. There were still plenty of tables opened when we got there and our party of 9 was able to get seated right away. The waiter got our water and orders down quickly after we seated. However, when it came to bringing the orders out, many different waiters came out and there were miscommunication on where orders were supposed to be within our party. I ordered #16 phở đặc biệt (large) and a cà phê dừa đã. My pho was honestly nothing special. The broth tasted underwhelming, and the meat was okay (filet rare steak, well done flank, brisket, tendon, tripe). The large portion was definitely a lot, but I wasn't enjoying the pho, so I didn't finish it. The coffee was good and on the sweeter side. Lastly, I particularly didn't like our seating (middle area), because there wasn't enough space between us and the table behind us. Pho Dac Biet: The broth is TLC in a bowl. It takes so much skill, finesse, and effort to transform ordinary ingredients into liquid gold. Before doing anything else, take a couple sips to understand what you're dealing with. First of all, the broth is scorching, burn the roof of your mouth, hot - which is exactly how I enjoy it. The flavor is complex and delicious. You can really taste the spices like cinnamon and anise. I like a variety of cuts of beef, so this bowl contains rare sliced filet mignon steak, sliced brisket, silky tendon, and tripe. The beef cuts are all tender. If you like beef, then you'll be glad to know there will be beef with every bite. Even at the bottom of the broth, you'll fish out lots of beef tidbits. By the way, since the broth is so hot, I moved the rare steak to the top so that it stays rare. The accompanying dish of herbs is generous with sprigs of basil, sprouts, peppers, lime, and even a culantro leaf. The hot sauce is great. It's a ridiculously tasty, fermented bean chili sauce. Dining Area: The dining room is large with two dozen tables. Many of the tables are communal, which is great for moving people in and out of the place. I'm usually a rice guy but since it was cold, I gravitated to their specialty Pho. I wanted the pho with rare steak but the waiter talked me into getting the Dac Biet which had the rare steak plus well done flank, brisket, tendon, and tripe. I told him I didn't want tripe and he said no problem, he would take it out. But when it showed up, tripe was still in it. Despite the error, the pho was decent and for the first time I could remember, it actually contained much more than my appetite could handle. I also have to honestly say that I didn't care much for the noodles they use and I didn't like the tendon and well done flank. Ask you for your drink orders first. Then they circle back for the main orders. Food came out within 10 mins. Food: The components of each dish were present. Noodle dishes had noodles, meat, soup, and generous herbs and garnishes. Appetizer was little burnt. Presentation was spot on. Now the important part is taste. That's where they fail miserably. Since covid the quality has tanked. The flavor is non-existent or so watered down. I don't often leave food but here? Here, I give myself full permission to be wasteful.
