My experience ended up being 4 stars because I paid $704 for diagnostics and a transmission fluid service, only to be told that the transmission issues would likely continue over time. The recommendation given was that replacing the vehicle might be a better option if we didn't want to continue investing money into the truck. Afterward, I reached back out to ask for a quote on either rebuilding or replacing the transmission so I could better understand my options. Unfortunately, I've waited quite a while without receiving a response. At this point, even after spending the money on the diagnostics and service, the truck is still undrivable and sitting in a parking lot while I continue paying for a rental car. I completely understand that transmission work can be complicated, and I am grateful they were able to inspect my truck since I don't know much about transmissions myself. When I first brought the truck in, I also mentioned an issue with my taillight. I was initially told it would be added to the diagnostics at the end, but it was never looked at. I was later informed that I would need to pay an additional $185 just to diagnose the taillight issue. At that point, I decided to simply pick up the truck. The communication was excellent from start to finish while the vehicle was actively being worked on, but as a returning customer, I do feel disappointed that I haven't received any follow-up regarding the transmission quote. I'm hoping someone from the team can reach back out soon so I can better understand what my next steps and costs may be.

They were upfront about their diagnostic fee of $185 plus tax. I needed a new alternator, belt, and battery for my 2006 RAV4. I asked for a rough estimate so I could compare it to a few other shops, and they told me $400-$600 for parts and labor. After reading other positive reviews, I decided to have my car towed from Kaneohe to this shop. The drop-off went smoothly, and I received a call shortly after with two quotes. The first quote was $2,075 to replace the alternator, belt, and battery, and the second was $3,200 to also fix an oil leak in the engine. This is an older vehicle, and the quote was 4-5 times higher than what was originally estimated. I decided to pay the $185 diagnostic fee and take my car to a different shop. After calling around to a few smaller shops, they told me this specific car requires more labor because the radiator has to be removed. However, they said it should cost between $1,000-$1,300 at most. I ended up going to a local shop, and they completed the repairs for $1,150. They also checked for an oil leak and found nothing. This shop not only bait-and-switched me on pricing but also tried to get me to pay an extra $1,200 for a repair I didn't need. I would give 0 stars if I could and will be telling family and friends to avoid this shop, as they are not honest. UPDATE: 04/16/26 I uploaded a picture of the Yelp message coming directly from your company, so you can't call me a liar. 'If you can't produce this, what you're saying isn't just false, it's libel.' That is a direct quote from you. I also wasn't looking for the cheapest repair, I was looking for a fair quote. After visiting your shop I called three different shops and you quoted roughly twice the amount that they did. So I went with a shop that priced right in the middle and had good reviews. It's also interesting that you didn't mention your $1,200 quote for an oil leak that didn't exist. Your pricing is your pricing I just wish you were upfront about it or provided me with a more realistic quote. The shop I went to used all brand-new parts but sold them at cost rather than upcharging their customers. That business has been around for over 30 years, so it's surprising that you would resort to insulting their credibility rather than owning up to your mistake and making things right. Thank you for further proving my point about why people should avoid your shop. Maybe this isn't the experience for everyone, but as a first impression, it guaranteed that I won't be returning. Safety check not recommended!! There is no sign or person indicating anything about the wait time at any point, and once you get past the entrance, you're trapped in the line with no way to exit for at least an hour. From the entrance, you can't see the whole line or tell how many cars ahead of you are waiting for inspections - no way to guess how long the wait might be if you haven't done it before. The staff person who did my inspection was not very friendly, and when I said "I really wish you'd put up a sign that says it's a 3 hour wait" (without a rude or angry tone, just weary), he ignored me and just told me how much I owed him. No hint of kindness or apology for the insane wait time. I wish I had read the reviews, because this seems to have been an issue here for at least a year. A simple sign to set expectations or even just kind words from the staff could've mitigated the horrible experience.

Dealers recommend wheel alignment every six months. Much cheaper to get regular wheel alignment than to replace tires. Plus you get a better driving experience. Chung's is located on Dillingham Blvd (makai side) across Honolulu Community College. Don't let the current rail road construction deter you from getting here. Best to call and to make an appointment. Wheel alignment takes about an hour. Waiting area is limited. Wear your Hokas or comfortable walking shoes to venture about. City Square SC and Kapalama SC are nearby so you can grab a bite to eat while you are waiting.

I spoke to Archie on the phone and told him that I wanted to use their current promo coupon for an $89.99 oil change. He said no problem. However, when I arrived for my appointment, Archie said that the coupon was actually only good for $10 off, which brought the total amount to about $110 ($10 being taxes and fees). That's $10 more than advertised. Not a huge deal, but a little annoying. I tried to argue that the price/coupon didn't make sense or add up, but got nowhere. Although it didn't sit right with me that Archie kept gaslighting me about the coupon, I agreed to proceed at the higher price because I had taken time off from work, already driven down for the appointment, and it was only a $10 difference. Before handing over my keys, I noticed that the safety check wasn't listed in the paperwork and pointed this out to Archie. He responded that the safety service wasn't listed in the appointment notes. I asked if they could still do the safety anyway, and that's when things turned really weird - he said "respectfully, I'm going to decline servicing your vehicle altogether." When I asked why, he said "I don't want you to have a bad experience." Well, I had a bad experience so I guess that failed. I've never had any business refuse service before, especially after misleading me about the price and messing up my confirmed appointment. I went to another shop in town and had no issues. It's a drive-thru required annual Hawai'i Safety Check station; an actual drive- thru! And it truly lives up to its name: there are two separate lanes with one person servicing both lanes while a second person is on the side uploading all relevant information, collecting the required annual fee and taking the necessary pictures to be uploaded to the State system as a double check. Both of these gentlemen are extremely knowledgeable, super friendly, courteous, fast and efficient! Although, the location is on the other side of the island from where we live, it is well worth the travel over the mountain because of the time you save making, to me anyway, a huge value! I give McCully Union Service my personal 5-Shaka rating!
