I am sad to write this review but I have to voice my experience with this company. Richard scammed me for over $800 of work that was never completed. I requested a fuel line and power steering line replacement on an older Lexus about 4/5 months ago. Richard came and checked it out and informed me he would have to special order the fuel line because it was an older car. I was quoted for the diagnostic fee and the cost of the part. 2 weeks go by, radio silent. I call him and he says the part never got shipped and he would have to find a different solution. He comes by again and says he was going to "Macgayver" a new hose diy style. A few hours later he informs me it's not gonna work and he would be back to fix it with a new solution. A week or two goes by and I reach out again to ask for an update. He tells me he's working on something and my car will be fixed shortly. This game of cat and mouse where he tells me he's gonna fix my car, doesn't get back to me, and gives me some sort of excuse when I finally get in contact with him happens about 6/7 times throughout my experience. Each time I begin to lose hope but every time he reassures me he is going to fix it the following meetup. He even said because of the delay he would fix my power steering line for free! This is not something I expected from Richard because he's a local guy and seemed like an honest individual, that's why this sucks. Fast forward about 4 months later with disappointment after disappointed and a total of THREE different payments made, my cars engine bay is torn apart and I can't get in contact with Richard. I have called him over 15 times to no avail. I think he has finally cut and run with my money. I feel betrayed and taken advantage of. My car has now been sitting for over 3 months without being started which he expressed is TERRIBLE for the car but the manifold is off so i can't do anything about it. I think he thought he could do this to me without repercussions because I am younger and would not speak out but this is not right. I recently had a different mobile mechanic come check out my car and he commented on the poor job Richard had done and said, "that last guy really did a number on your car," and "he just left it like this.?" In conclusion Richard is a scammer and I would not recommend this company to my worst enemy. He is cheap for a reason!! Hired 808 Auto Repair to do an oil change. Good to meet a new mechanic here on island. Richard was caught in traffic but let me know before our appointment. He was delayed 45 minutes. Richard did a complete diagnostic and recommended we bring back to the dealer to checkout 2 items more closely. Oil change was completed quickly. Richard also suggested we exchange our battery as it was running weak. Funny how our battery just going out of warranty and then starts to fail. An Optima battery next. read more

I'm putting this review out here to help the next person out. For straightforward mechanical issues, Richard will do okay. For anything involving electrical work or more complex issues, look elsewhere and don't waste your time and money. I tried 808 AUTO because it's a small business, provides mobile service, and seemed to have decent reviews, so I took a chance. I contacted Richard at 808 AUTO REPAIR for a diagnosis on my car since it wouldn't start (no clicking, no turning over, just silence when turning the key). The check engine light was on, and the PRNDL on the dash indicator wasn't showing. I got quoted a flat rate of $150 for him to come out, which is a normal rate for an engine diagnosis. After fees, it came out to $180. Red Flag #1: After about 30 minutes he told me that I needed to charge my battery to properly read codes, and he said I'll need to get it charged and have him come back. Instead of wasting the $180 I just spent and risking getting flaked out on, I went out to get a battery and asked him to come back in an hour. Red Flag #2: After his return, he did more testing and came to the conclusion it was the transmission range sensor. At first, he quoted me $220 for the part from O'Reilly, but when I checked, it was only $110, which I showed him on the website that it was in stock at Dillingham. I shrugged it off since it could've been an honest mistake and asked for an estimate. He then said NAPA Auto Parts had one for $140, and he preferred their parts, so I went with his choice. I was quoted $266, and I paid upfront to get the work done. Red Flag #3: The transmission range sensor wasn't changed, and I was told it was the ignition switch since he did a test to see if it was working (so I was told). But now the problem was there was no start signal going to my starter, and he said he'd return the next day and wouldn't charge me more. Red Flag #4: Next day, while I was away, he gave me a call and told me it's not the ignition switch and wants to bench test my starter and charge me another $150 for labor, but I declined since I asked him if the PRNDL dash lights work, and he said no. (I'm not a mechanic, but I started to feel like I was being swindled at this point). Instead, he offered to change the starter relay for free to see if that was the problem. He changed the relay, and the car still wouldn't start. He then suggested having the starter changed and quoted me more than $400. I declined since I still wasn't convinced it was the starter because the car only had 65k miles on it, and the gear selection still wasn't displaying on the dash, and because he didn't show his work. Afterwards, we talked, and he said it might be the computer. So he tested that and found that the voltage was low but wants to rule out the starter first. Again, all of these assumptions have no evidence to show for. Red Flag #5: He shot me a quick estimate of $1500 to replace my ECM but before jumping the gone and handing over that kind of money I asked Richard for a report on his findings, what work was done, itemized receipts, and an itemized estimate on his suggestion. Couple days later I still haven't received any information yet regarding the work supposedly done While Richard seemed like a nice guy, In the end, I spent $500 for nothing, got ignored and lied too about getting a report sent to me. Since then I brought the car to the dealer and of course it was the transmission range sensor and a dirty ground. read more

Hired Richard to replace my timing belt that had potentially snapped. I was off island when he "completed" the job. I had asked him to shoot me over the scope of work that he had accomplished and he said he would... He never did. At first he was very communicative and seemed very legit. After the work was "done" I went to the car and found a timing belt on the front seat that was def. Not snapped. When I asked him about the belt from the front seat, he never responded. He also never told me what his findings were in the engine, if the original timing belt had snapped or what he actually replaced. After paying close to $2000 I was hoping to at least get an answer as to whether or not my timing belt actually snapped. My boss who used Richard to replace his radiator saw Richard at Auto-Zone a week ago said he had been trying to reach him and that I was trying to get in touch with him and he just said, "oh, I've been busy." I thought I had found a diamond here on Oahu but was left with more questions than answers and a lighter wallet. I'm giving this shop a 1/5 stars for my second time bringing in my car for a service. I recently had a 5-star review (see below) for the shop where I brought my car in for a service and received it back with the services promised. I'm writing this updated review after bringing my car back a second time. Since I had complete trust in the service provided by this shop the first time, I willingly brought it back in hopes of fixing another problem I had with my 2012 Acura TSX. ***Long story short, I received the car back from the shop promising my problems were fixed, but they weren't. And in addition, the car was received back with panels (which probably were removed in order to inspect the car) and headrests not put back in place. So I'm writing this review because of promised services that weren't achieved and lack of consideration in returning the car in the same state I turned it in*** Timeline: 7/14/20: I bring my vehicle in for a wheel rotation noise, suspension creaking, and an air suspension leak. 7/14/20-7/29/20: car's rotational noise is fixed. But was stuck in the shop because parts were ordered in order to fix the suspension creaking and airbag leak. Labor and parts were billed around $750 for everything. 7/29/20- picked up my car with it being promised that the rotational noise and the leak was gone, and it was test driven to make sure the suspension noise was gone too. 7/30/20 - found my car with the leak (only after 6 hours) and the suspension noise was back. It was only gone for the first 30 minutes so I think the shop did something that "temporarily" fixed it. Tried to call about the suspension noise still being there but was told that I would have to just "lube" it to get rid of the noise. All in all, I paid $750 for three services that were promised. 2 of those services weren't resolved so it makes me feel as if I paid for "parts" and "services" that weren't even fixed. Did my money even go towards fixing my car's problems? And in addition, when I cleaned my car the next day, the head rests and door panels in the back weren't put in place so I couldn't even receive my car back in the state I drove it in when I took it to the shop. I'm giving those shop a 3/5 because they still gave me a good service my first time around (5/5) but I wish it could've been the same the second time I brought it in (1/5 stars) ---------------------------------------- My car's Emission warning light turned on during a Friday night this past week. My car went into limp mode and I didn't know exactly what was wrong with it. So I looked on Yelp Saturday morning for a good car shop to take a look at it when I stumbled upon 808 Auto Repair. Richard was kind enough to answer my call and tell me they could look at my vehicle. I brought in my car, got a quote (which was beyond reasonable for a deal), and said that he could fix the problem by Monday. Meeting Richard, he was very communicative about what issues my car had and he was approachable enough to even start having a conversation with. Dude is insanely kind, and someone who loves to work on cars (which is exactly why he should be the one you can trust to work on your car). I just picked up my car today, and it runs perfectly fine! Richard also told me he did a flush check as well as a car wash and wax on my car. This is the type of customer service that'll gain loyalty from its customers. I would give this business 10 stars if I could. I recently came out of a relationship with a mechanic, which meant I had to start paying a mechanic I also had just bought a VW which is not the most reliable vehicle. I needed help figuring out why my check engine light was on. I called around and decided on Richard. I have to say, after know what happens in mechanics shop and seeing the cost vs charge, my guard was up. I don't want to go into every detail over the past 5 months that I have known Richard, but I will say that I grew yo completely trust and rely upon him. It's like I'm calling a friend when I need help. A friend that I have to pay but I trust him like a friend. He is SUPER flexible and accommodates my wild schedule. He comes to me wherever I am, be always texts back in a timely manner, he takes time to explain and make suggestions, he has a genuine interest in the well being of his clients and thier vehicles. His prices are more than fair....he is compassionate and understands the value of a dollar and how far his customers have to make one go. When my car wouldn't start I researched heavily on my options. I didn't have towing coverage & so I didn't want to pay and arm and a leg to do so. I was informed there was a mobile mechanic on island so I thought I would give one of them a shot. I called several but Richard seemed to have the best prices, customer reviews, fastest communication method, and most experience. I decided to go with him. He came out the next day after contacting him- right to my apartment garage! I met him and his wife both were lovely. I enjoyed how thorough he was with his diagnostic and how knowledgable he seemed about cars. The guy KNOWS his stuff! He diagnosed it 45 mins after his arrival. Ended up being the fuel pump. Not a cheap fix but he searched around for the cheapest part on island. He went straight to obtain this part and install it same day! After the pump was installed he found a problem with the battery in key. He informed me that a locksmith needed to come and repair it, but didn't charge me as he didn't find on initial diagnosis. I was greatly appreciative of this. After this was complete and the car started he personally dropped off my garage and car keys to my work, didn't charge me for the trip either. He spent an hour explaining the process and cost to my parents on the mainland. This guy is NOT looking to rip anyone off like most mechanics but is a truly genuine guy and mechanic looking to help his customers and community. I am so grateful for people like Richard and his service to the community. He shows the true aloha spirit which seems hard to come by these days! If I could give Ohana Car Care Hawaii infinity stars, I would but I guess we have to settle for 5. My family and I were helped by Richard (who is also one of the business owners). He saw my request for a quote on yelp for a tire/installation and disposal and the price he gave me beat out every other company that had quoted me and also let me pick the day and time to bring it in which is super convenient. Richard was very knowledgeable and even went above and beyond to ask if I know whether or not I had purchased a hazard protection plan on the tires so I could save some money. Although I did not have the hazard protection, I still towed my Dodge Durango to his shop which is located at 915 Ka'aahi Place in kalihi. Upon arrival, Richard greeted me with a very big smile and assisted me right away. He let me know what exactly was going to be done and honored the price that I was quoted. He had my daughter and I wait in the office while he went ahead and got things rolling for us. A little while later he pulled me outside to ask me if I noticed it was a little hard to stop the SUV or if I had any trouble braking. I said not really although I was hearing some noises and stuff so he showed me on my SUV that the brake pads were all worn out and I had NONE left and even showed me where it was grinding metal against metal and suggested I get it changed/fixed ASAP as it is a safety hazard. I then told him I'm sorry but times are hard right now and that I am not currently employed and can't get it done right now but he quoted me anyways and highly advised me not to be driving it too much or not at all really because of what bad shape it was in. I said okay and thank you for letting me know and he showed me back to the office and said he would be done with the tire in a few minutes. A little time went by and he popped back into the office where my daughter and I were waiting and told me that he's sorry but it was going to take a little longer than expected which I said no it's totally fine because he so conveniently fit me into his busy schedule in the first place. He then continued to explain to me WHY it would take longer than expected which reason being was that he and his business partner talked things over and decided to do my brakes FOR FREE and that we just needed to wait a little while for the parts to be delivered!!! I was in shock and kind of just stared at him with a blank face because I couldn't get the words and thoughts I was feeling to come out of my mouth! I was so amazed and totally caught off guard by the wonderful news, that I just froze! Little did Richard know I just got bad news that my 12 year old son was diagnosed with a disease of the eye that is slowly making him blind on top of other not so nice/frustrating things that have been happening one after another to me and my family for a few months now and for him and his partner to do that completely made my year! 2019 has been a rough year for us and I have been feeing down and out and depressed for awhile now and his kind gesture totally made it all better again! So yes, I HIGHLY recommend Ohana Car Care Hawaii to Any and everyone!!! Not only are they very accommodating and treat you like family, but also very friendly, fast and thorough! I'm from big island so I do not have a lot of help here. I got TWO flat tires within two weeks. They were so helpful. I work crazy hours and they were willing to work around it by even letting me come in before the shop opens. It's very obvious that they aren't trying to take your money but truly trying to help you.
