I don't really like writing service reviews for companies unless I work with them multiple times. I have been a customer of NT for two years now. They are unmatched in the level of service and attention to detail. Multiple times I have come back to either my beater or my fancy car and it has been washed or the headlights been restored or something else done without asking or charge. Everything down to the wipers and window wash water is checked. Never pushing things like cabin air filters and weird treatments unless asked for. Employees/owners are friendly and a local family. My catalytic converter was almost stolen - caught the thieves in the act - but it was damaged enough to require repair and some thought. How do I deter would-be thieves from trying again in the future? There didn't seem to be any local options so I went online and found only a few. One was a plate that covered the entire area near the catalytic converter underneath the car, basically a massive plate. That made sense as a deterrent but I've seen catalytic converters get red hot so didn't think trapping heat would be a smart move. I ended up choosing "CatSecurity" and took advantage of their 2 day free shipping anywhere - even to to Hawaii. Now the trick was to find someone who would do the install. My dealership wouldn't so I reached out to 5 auto shops with high stars. The only one who returned my inquiry with any kind of intelligence and care was NT Automotive. They were very up front. They had never done this model of catalytic converter protection before and asked for more details. I found the install instructions online and send it to them. They came back with a quote range (which totally made sense as they didn't know what they were getting into). I agreed and we set a date. Dropped off the car and picked it up within the same day. As the car was already off the lift they texted me a picture of the work. To my surprise, the cost was on the low end of the quote. The owner was super friendly and obviously knowledgeable. Hands down out of all the mechanics I've met, I nominate Todd Nitta as the best one out there. Mr. Nitta is not only the hardest working mechanic I've seen but also the smartest one. I have an older 4runner that I got from a relative and all of a sudden the AC was blowing hot air... darn! Everyone knows that a car is useless without AC! I was going through Yelp when my wife said, there's a sticker on the back of the car, take it to that place. OK! Well, of course I looked up NT Automotive on Yelp and it's all good! I call and they said to bring it down. It was a little difficult to find this place because it literally is one tiny driveway into the place. But I did find it and left it there. Well, unfortunately Todd couldn't get to it that day but he said bring by the next morning which I did. He offered to work late - but give the guy a break. I could wait.... I have been through so many dying AC in cars; and it's been the compressor over and over - sometimes over 3 times in a row on my Jeep. So I was resigned to the fact that this would be another $2k hit. Well, I was surprised when he called back earlier than expected saying it was done. I don't know if it was a leak or what - I suspect the evap, but in any case he recharged the AC, checked for leaks and I was good to go. He did charge me for the cabin air filter - my fault for not changing it before I went in. This is a common item that anyone can change and save $60. But he said it was dirty and it probably was. So the bill was less than I expected and I was good to go with a super cold AC system now. Before I left he told me that my car was one of the good ones for the 4runner and to keep it. Yep I will. I needed a wheel bearing assembly replaced on 1 front tire on my car. NT Automotive estimated $350 for the job. Dropped the car off on Saturday and left it with them. Come Monday, they increased the price on me to $650 due to needing to outsource the work to another company. On Tuesday, when the car was ready for pickup, it mysteriously increased another hundred dollars and I was being charged $750. At no point was a $750 price tag discussed before starting the $350 job. Somehow, the cost just kept increasing, with the final price being MORE THAN DOUBLE (215%) what I was originally quoted. At most, a wheel bearing & hub assembly should cost about $200 at places like Napa Auto. Lower end assemblies can be purchased for less, $100-$150. This means I am being charged $600-$650 for labor. When I look at their invoice breakdown, save parts charges and taxes, I am being charged $450 for labor and $215 for outsourced labor. Outsourcing the labor was not communicated in the estimate prior to me taking in my car. By the time I was being told it would cost me MORE THAN DOUBLE my estimate, the existing wheel bearing assembly had already been taken apart, meaning, the car was already rendered undrivable until repaired by their pricing structure. In other words, I had no choice (other than towing the car somewhere) but to pay an arbitrary price they kept hiking up as "labor". If there's an unforeseen circumstance, I can understand $500. But $750?! To sell me on $350, then upcharge me $400 more than what they quoted feels deceptive, misleading, dishonest, ridiculous, disappointing, and unprofessional. Unless they spent 7-8 hours straight, uninterrupted, working on my single wheel bearing assembly, I don't know how you can justify charging $665 for labor. Poor communication. Not okay. Feeling blindsided. Would never go back. Would never recommend. read more

Glad to have found NT automotive! Todd is very fair and helpful, he even suggested that I may not even need a full timing belt change, saying he rarely see these cars need it till 150k miles. I still did the full timing belt, tensioner and water pump change, but what auto shop do you know of that would actually suggest a cheaper service to do when you was already ready to do the more expensive job? To be honest, I wish I had skipped Lex Brodie's and came to NT Automotive from the start! They are wonderful and are now my go to island automotive specialist. So here's my experience... Lex Brodie's sent me to an engine specialist because they suspected a leak. I looked online and brought my 2002 Ford Escape to Nori and Todd at NT Automotive right away. It was easy to set up a time and Nori was extremely responsive to my texts and calls for drop off. (See photos for examples of their superb communication!) After inspecting my car, Todd found something alarming that Lex Brodie's failed to notice -- only one of my front brakes was fully functioning! Not only is this extremely dangerous when driving up and down the pali each day but it's illegal to be on the road! I was especially upset because Lex Brodie's did a brake inspection and had me replace a brake part but didn't notice or mention this fatal flaw. (See before picture of wheel.) Lucky for me, I was in the hands of knowledgeable professionals. They searched the island for the part needed which was no longer in production. Next, they searched other islands and the mainland. They were able to track down the part off island and order it within hours of discovering the issue. With the part ordered we waited for it's arrival. In the meantime, Todd washed the engine. At this time a leak wasn't detected but I'll be back in a month for a follow up. When the part for the brakes arrived it was immediately installed and tested. Todd and Nori went above and beyond communicating with me and my grandpa along the way. Today, the brakes work perfectly and I feel safe driving my family around the island. Todd even gave me a full run down of future repairs with the suspension to expect given the age of my car (2002). He taught me what to look out for as precursors to the repairs. I can say I'm becoming more of a car girl thanks to him sharing his knowledge. All around I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this team that is professional, polished, kind, and hard working! Even though I didn't use the company for the repairs I needed I was extremely impressed with how responsive the owner of this company was with inquiries. I left a desperate message after business hours on yelp for many similar companies and this company was the only company to respond that same day and he was very kind to answer all of my questions despite being technically off the clock. Because my repair required a part that was not in stock he gave me suggested that i take my driveshaft to get fixed rather than replaced which ended up doing. So even if I can't speak to using their service given my interaction with company and their honesty and attention to customer service I believe I would use their services in the future for my automotive repair needs. read more

Needed tires & safety check for our 2nd family vehicle. NT Auto was one of the first to respond via yelp. After getting quotes, they were the most responsive and most trustworthy per customer reviews. They also don't do safety inspections at their facility but they will bring it to a friends shop to get it done. Brought the car in on a Saturday and Todd asked if it was ok to leave car overnight if he didn't get done in time. I said ok since it's a secondary vehicle. Got a call from Noreen on Sunday stating car was done. I wasn't expecting that since I know they're closed on Sunday's. She said Todd felt bad that he didn't get done the day prior so he decided to go in and work on it. Since I already had prior commitments, I decided to pick up vehicle on Monday. When I picked up the vehicle, Todd went over some other issues that needed to be addressed. Got some quotes and decided to talk it over with the family before making a decision. I got a quote through yelp. I'm not a mechanic, but I had a specific safety concern (because it's happened before). They were nice enough to get me a quote for that. The idea was never to tell mechanics what was wrong, but rather to save everybody some time by getting quotes for the same service to see who was giving what general prices without getting 5 inspections. As it turns out, I was apparently hearing a sound that's normal. They did a test drive, did an inspection, etc and didn't find a problem. I tried to pay them for the time they did spend hunting down this phantom sound, but they wouldn't let me! It's hard to find a good mechanic these days. It's not just doing the job. It's honesty and can I trust they won't try to charge me for things I don't need because I'm not a mechanic who would know the difference. Hard for women to find honest mechanic that works on Hybrid cars. My 2011 Toyota I had bought just last year thinking it was in good condition started breaking down. This last break down was the Brake Actuator. 1 place quoted so high I thought I'd have to junk the car!, I went to Yelp and NT Auto responded quickly. They didn't even say they'd charge for another diagnosis that I had already gotten done from another place. The quote they gave me was fair and I felt like I could save the car. They found the part was available even before I took it down. They were attentive and took time to do the job right. They took it for a test drive and made sure all was fixed well. They truly go above and beyond for customer service. I have a 2011 Jeep Patriot that needed to be serviced and in perfect condition to be shipped from Honolulu to the mainland. Todd did just that. He repaired the underlying problem (small evap leak and oil change) Todd also took the initiative and drove my car around the block to make sure the check engine light was off (in order to have your vehicle shipped. Awesome experience fixing our AC with NT Automotive! All of the other AC companies wanted a diagnostic fee of $99.00, $140.00 or $180.00 just to find the cause of our AC not blowing cold during the daytime hours. Luckily they checked for Freon leaks but none found so we will be monitoring it. After recharging the Freon our car's AC blows super cold! I used the Yelp suggestion for some basic automotive needs for my car. NT Automotive answered my call. Talk about raising the bar of excellence. This place is amazing. First off, Todd is a no none sense gimmick person that will help with a better understanding on what your car needs at that point. I had a written estimate from another automotive car care center, that stated what my car needed as specified on Michelin guidelines that cost was roughly about $2k. Todd pointed out to me that my car did not need those things, and showed it to me that I dint need that service at the current time. He also went on things my car needs, and recommended an oil change. I just changed my oil at that automotive about 4K ago. With there best synthetic oil they had. He recommended a better oil, and it really made a big difference in performance wise. We also talked about using better gas, and try to stay away from the cheaper gas stations if you want a better Performance on your vehicle. When it came time to pick up my car, I was VERY IMPRESSED by the care he has for his customers. They went above and beyond to any standards that I have seen in any auto car care service. My engine bay was immaculate, and also applied rain x on my windshield at no extra cost but as a courtesy to all his customers. We took in our 14 year old Camry and asked Todd to complete a few maintenance items, check on a few issues, and see if anything else needed attention.
