Poor customer service! The only reason why I gave them 2 stars not 1 is because they did the inspection test. After the first inspection, the employee at the front just straight up told me my windshield wipers smeared and said "with the new wiper blades and inspection, it's 100." What? He didn't even ask me if I would like to have them installed there. He just told me the total price assuming I would go with it. Then I said, if the price was a little lower I would do it here but $80 is a lot. I know windshield wipers don't cost that much. Then he said "well it requires installation and I'm not gonna work for free" (wrong! All the auto parts shops I've been to all do it for free. I'm also not gonna let you upsell me for $80 when you aren't even willing to spend 3 mins to install wipers without charging me.) He even proceeded to ask me if I had installed them before, questioning my estimate of the "labor" cost. It took me max 5 mins to replace my wipers last time! Dude, if you're gonna try to sell me stuff, at least be nice about it. Smarter alternative here: 1) buy the cheap ones online for $30 or buy the premium ones for around $50 and install them yourself or 2) go to an auto parts store to get new ones installed for $40 or around $70 for premium blades. Yes I had to make a second trip to come back for re-check, but no, I'm not going to get ripped off like that when he's not even nice about it to begin with. Avoid this place. They got a low rating for a reasoning. Take your car to the car wash on Kapiolani for an inspection instead. read more

On 8/28/2025, I visited the Beretania location for service, and even after paying the $376.39, they held back on giving me any Discount, even when the Discount was advertised as "$50 OFF 2 OR $100 OFF 4 SHOCKS AND STRUTS". My invoice #0816496 totaled $359.46 before taxes. This should have qualified. On 9/03/2025, I sent an email to their management email, using the only contact email provided (info@midashawaii.com), but I have not received a response. It's been a very long time now. I have been coming here for the past two years for almost all my repair/check up needs. They are very responsive and reliable. Never force any parts or service on me. Had a minor leak this week. They did the check up quickly and told me it's something that the car can regulate by itself and not an issue. Nothing needs to be done and zero money spent. I was once a secret shopper at this establishment and I gave them great reviews then and I'm giving them a great review now. They are less then 10min from home so they are conveniently located. Normally when I pass by they aren't really busy so I like that I wouldn't be waiting half a day to get my car back. I had looked them up online to check for business hours and saw that I would need to set an appt prior to coming in. I set an appt for Mon at 3p and got done with errands early so I headed over, an hour early, hopeing that they take me in, which they did!! Yay! Went to get an oil change and I was in and out in about 20min. Price was reasonable. Overall, I'll be a return customer for future auto services. read more

I came to Midas for an oil change for a Honda CRV. Similar to Jennifer A.'s review, they would not honor the coupon amount which was for regular oil, but stated Honda required full synthetic oil. I got the oil change and they recommended new struts, new tires, and a wheel alignment. I thought they were trying to sell more service and declined, but at home I could see that at least one strut was leaking. I took it in and had one pair replaced on 1/14/2025 and the second pair and control arm replaced on Friday, 3/14/2025. At that point all four struts and a However, it was IMMEDIATELY clear right as I pulled into traffic that something was wrong with the suspension. There was a severe rattle and vibration from the left rear of the vehicle after going over even the slightest bump. I made my way back to the shop. The service writer (Javin M.) was gone, but the mechanic and assistant were still there. The mechanic put my CRV back up on the rack to show that he had replaced the struts. He stated that he had heard the rattle and told "the boss" (evidently the service writer), but the service writer made no mention of this to me verbally or in writing when he handed me back my key. The mechanic said it was so bad he thought the new strut had failed, so he replaced it with a second new one, and claimed it had no effect. He said he didn't know what was causing the problem. I took the vehicle to a second repair shop on 3/19/2025 and they told me within an hour that the new left rear strut was no good. I took the car and the second shop's receipt to Midas, told the service writer (Brant T.) that they installed a bad strut on my vehicle and either didn't recognize it or didn't tell me, and asked them to fix it at no extra cost and to reimburse me for the second repair shop's assessment. He did not argue with any of that but did not admit at any time that they made any mistake. But he asked me to sign a form that specifically said that I authorized them to charge me for extra work and parts if they were not able to contact me. I said I wouldn't sign that and he said (I QUOTE) "you can sign it or you can have a good day". I thought that was a pretty rude position for a suspension shop that failed to do basic suspension work to take and I was about ready to walk away and file a claim in small claims court. Then he stated verbally that he would call me before doing anything that would require any additional charge. I asked why did he need me to sign that form, and he claimed it was a required state form. Nowhere on the form were there any markings indicating it was a state of Hawaii form. I handwrote a note that the shop would contact me before proceeding if any additional charges were required and he either didn't notice or didn't complain. I've tried to find evidence that this form is required online at home and I can't find anything from the state of Hawaii about it. I do see this information (https://cca.hawaii.gov/rico/the-regulated-industries/motor-vehicle-repairs/) from the state of Hawaii saying "Hawaii law requires licensed repair dealers and mechanics provide a written estimate before starting any work." That's about the opposite of what their form is claiming. I am not convinced at all that it's actually a required form from the state and I would love for them to prove me wrong. A couple hours later I had a message saying my vehicle was ready. Brant T. was still at the counter and apologized for the form but not for failing to do the correct maintenance correctly or wasting my time with extra trips. My vehicle operated correctly afterward, and he didn't charge me anything additional and reimbursed me for the second repair shop's assessment. Maybe they knew it wasn't fixed and meant to tell me that, but accidentally gave me my keys back and charged me $1,934.98 for a new pair of struts and a sway bar link and sent me on my way anyway? Maybe they didn't test drive it after attempting to repair it? Maybe they did test drive it and were too incompetent to notice that the suspension was not operating correctly at all? Or ... maybe they knew they installed a bad part and hoped I wouldn't argue about it? I guess only Midas Beretania knows what happened here. I wish you could give zero or negative stars. I would STRONGLY advise that you avoid this shop. It seems in my case that they either made a grossly negligent mistake or were outright dishonest. read more

Went in for a routine safety check, was told car needed to have a bunch of "unnecessary" things fixed before they could issue a safety check. Unnecessary because this is an old car and drives perfectly well, but to them it's not good enough. They quoted over $2k to get everything fixed before they would pass me. Declined to get those things fixed with them, but they still charged me the price of a safety check and only gave me a temporary 30-day safety check validation, saying I could get the real one as long as I get everything fixed by then. Ended up taking my car to another place and got my safety check with absolutely no issues at all. Shame on you Midas for taking advantage of people! read more

I thought I would have to wait weeks for a safety check appointment due to COVID. I called their office and was able to get a spot the following week. Check-in was easy and since I was one of their first appointments of the day, I only had to wait a few minutes. The lady on the phone was nice and concise as to what paperwork I would be needing to provide them for my safety check I hung out while they did my safety check and was able to get everything up to date. I have taken my car here for a bunch of stuff over the years because it's close to my house. It seems fine (not exceptional, but ok for the convenience factor). Lately though, something weird is going on with the meter they use to check the window tint for the safety check (as of April 2024). I was told my car's tint was too dark, even though it has previously passed the safety check with the same tint (??). I took it to a tint shop to have it removed and replaced and the guys at the tint shop said it should pass. They even checked with their meter and it passed. So I suspect the meter at Midas is not calibrated correctly. I then called the inspector to complain and he gave me attitude and dug his heels in telling me it needs to pass their meter in order to pass. Brant had me sign a form saying it is required before they can work on my car. Nothing was wrong with my car. My mechanic serviced my car couple months ago and everything is working good. I only needed to get a safety check. Asked for a copy of the signed form which he refused and didn't allow me to take a picture of the form. Told me if I didn't sign the form he won't do the safety check and can take my car elsewhere. Only reason I went there was I had donated to a fundraiser and it included a $5 off safety check coupon at Midas. Will not go there again. read more

I made an appointment for a Safety Check a week in advance. When I brought my car in, I checked in with the woman at the counter who took my information and informed me that the Safety Check would take 45 minutes to an hour, which I was not previously informed. I arrived to this appointment with the expectation that it would take at most, 30 minutes, based upon my previous experiences with walking in for a Safety Check at other businesses in the community. I hesitated to stay because I had another appointment within the hour but decided to go through with this appointment since I was already there, and end up being a little late for my next appointment. I had to wait outside in the rain given the limited space in the office area for social distancing. 45 minutes after my scheduled appointment time, I noticed that no one had gone up to my car and no one had come to talk to me about the delay. I went back in to the office area to ask the woman if the Safety Check would take 45 - 60 minutes from the time someone started to look at my car, or if someone was going to look at my car at that moment because there was only 15 minutes left until the 60 minutes were up. She responded, "it usually takes about 45 minutes to an hour." I didn't know what that meant and could not afford to miss my next appointment by 45 to 60 minutes so I asked for my things back and left. Such a waste of my time. I expect a few delays here and there with the pandemic situation, especially if I was a walk-in customer, however I made an appointment 1 week ahead of time and your business knew ahead of time what my appointment was for, so I find it unreasonable to expect someone to wait up to 60 minutes for a service that could be completed in less than 30 minutes at other places. Especially waiting in the rain, and there was no courtesy update as to why no one had looked at my car 45 minutes after I checked in. I will not be returning, and do not recommend that you come here if you have back to back appointments. read more

Totally friendly upon answering my phone call. I believe it was Rodney who helped me. I had a flat tire and needed it fixed right away. He politely answered my questions. I needed it fixed immediately and without an appointment. I needed to know how long it would take and the cost. He answered all my questions and said I could "come now, I have an opening!" I zipped right over and he met me as I pulled in. He quickly jacked up the car to relieve the spare and then dug out the tire from the trunk out to inspect it, discovering a hole in it. He said he could patch it right away and before I knew it i was in and out in about 23 minutes. Rodney also checked the air in all my tires. Earlier this year (Jan. or Feb. time........) while I was helping my coworker do a job in the Kaneohe area, it just so happens that it was raining very hard that day. As I was driving up the Like Like Hwy. to head back to town, I started to hydroplane my company vehicle in the heavy rain, and all I could hear from my coworker was - "Yo Fran, Sheeeeeet you're skidding, & hydroplaning!". My reply to him was - "'Eh, no worry........I get 'em! I'm a professional driver! Lol!" Of course I recovered the vehicle while going at a high rate of speed, and not once did I lose control of the vehicle. I guess when things like this happens, it's about time to visit Midas auto repair! I came here the other day for two reasons....... 1. To get my brakes serviced/fixed, as the wear indicator came on via the "grinding" noise, which was coming from the front brakes. 2. And the other reason was to get new tires, as when you start to hydroplane a vehicle, it's quite obvious you don't have that much thread left on your tires. I know the last time I took my vehicle in for a safety check, the mechanic told me.........."eh, your tires running low..............I go pass you, but you gotta get new tires." I then replied -, "'eh no problem bro., I go take care of that as soon as I take my vehicle in for service again". Well, I actually did take my vehicle into Goodyear (by St. Louis Heights), but unfortunately I got that rude service adviser - Ryan, and he didn't do jack on my vehicle, except rotate my tires, and do an oil change........... Ryan then got on top of his soapbox to lecture me about why he didn't do anything for my brakes, or tires on my company vehicle. This guy "Ryan" from Goodyear was so condescending I tell you! I'm glad I didn't take my vehicle back to Goodyear, and found this Midas shop on Beretania Street, just across the street from the Central Pacific Bank (Makiki Branch), or just a few business down (across the street) from the Graces Drive Inn. The service here at this particular Midas was OUTSTANDING! And here are the reasons why I believe this was a first class service operation - 1. I was able just walk up to the business & get an appointment right away. 2. They open here real early 7 AM, so you can drop off your vehicle real early in the morning before you head to work. The business hours here are - 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday to Saturday. They are closed on Sunday. 3. As I spoke to the manager - Pat Pregill and told her what needed to be done on my company vehicle, she addressed my needs without giving me the run-around like Goodyear. 4. They were very thorough in the work they did on my vehicle, as they replaced all 4 tires (they were small kine bolo's), mount & balanced the new tires, and did a 4 wheel alignment. They also replaced the brake pads & rotors, bled the brake oil line, then refilled it. While servicing the brakes, they also found out that one of the calipers on my vehicle went bad, so they replaced the bad caliper on my vehicle. I dropped off my vehicle in at around 6:50 AM (they were already open for business), and Midas called me back at around 2:30 PM telling me the work was all done on my vehicle! Pretty fast service considering how much work they did on my car............big "MAHALO" again for addressing my service needs, and for doing good quality work! I will see you again in the near future should I need my vehicle serviced again. read more

I came to Midas for my recent oil hange and safety check because I had a coupon for $5 off a safety check at Midas. Since the Midas on Beretania is close to home, I decided to check them out for the very first time. Service was quick and friendly. I got my safety check and oil change completed in under an hour. They have a nice air conditioned waiting room that is equipped with a TV, coffee, and complimentary wi-fi. The cost of the oil change came out to about $50 (incl. tax, labor, disposal fee, etc.). It's the same price as Kahala Shell, the place I normally go to for oil changes. I would definitely check them out again when I'm due for my next oil change. read more

I came to the Beretania Midus location for a tire rotation & synthetic oil change, for my SRX Cadillac. At checkout I noticed my tires had not been rotated and later found that the oil had not been changed Either. They reluctantly rotated the tires but after I paid and came back, the Manager Brant refused to change my oil; Brant said he will not give a refund or change my oil. According to Brent American motors are no good, and that's way the oil is so dark. I felt like Brant was going to try and punch me, so asked for the owner contact, Brant refused, and told me to call the Waipuna store to complain. So I left. read more

I was at a competitors place and was looking for an alternative diagnostic and for someone to be able to do it that day. During the test drive of my vehicle I jumped online and tried to get an appt with Midas. Within minutes, Leah called and asked if I can bring in the vehicle. I wanted to get it done that day so it was perfect! I brought it in and like most places should... checked out my vehicle and gave me the estimate for my brakes and my tire replacement, safety check etc... Can you believe that an establishment would give me an estimate before even looking at my vehicle?! (Their competitors!!!) They got my car done for an amazing price, ask about coupons. The customer service was amazing! I had to schedule a follow up appt for my tires since it had to be ordered, I was glad to come back, it was not an inconvenience. I brought it back a few days later because it best fit my schedule. Of course same flawless transaction and amazing service. I didn't catch the name of the mechanics... however, they were also extremely polite and personable. Adam and his team are great! I went today at Midas Beretania to get my car's oil change. I got the coupon for $40 for a conventional oil change but decided to upgrade for a synthetic oil change instead for an additional $40. It's pretty pricey for an oil change but I would rather pay that than going to my car dealership paying over $160 for an oil change and "other maintenance services (pretty just checking fluids level and tire rotation). The experience with the salesperson lady was very pleasant. She was really nice and very patient after I changed my mind and go for synthetic oil instead of the conventional motor oil. The service was very fast, too. I was in and out in about an hour. Here's where it gets sketchy, the service comes with a free tire rotation. I had a habit of marking each tire of my car from #1-#4 to make sure they would always rotate my tires but guess what, the mechanic didn't really do it. The numbers on the tires were all in the same place where I originally marked it. I was also outside for most of the time when the mechanic/tech was tending my car and never had I seen him rotate car's tires so it further validates that they weren't rotated. I have limited knowledge about cars so I'm just hoping that the tech at least properly did an oil change, put synthetic oil, and changed the oil filter. I don't know if this is just an oversight by the mechanic. I just hope they are performing all the services that were paid/agree upon or not charging customers of services not done. read more

Had my car's valve cover gaskets replaced at Good Year and found that it was still leaking oil. I took it to Midas to get a second opinion on what was happening, the service manager called me personally to talk me through what was happening. He informed me that the valve covers were still leaking because Good Year had not completely scraped the old gaskets off, leaving a gap in the seal. He told me to take it back to good year to have it replaced under warranty. Instead, I chose to first have Midas perform an oil dye test to see where the leaks are coming from, which is what good year should have done in the first place. He continuously told me to take it back to good year to have it replaced under warranty so that I wouldn't have to spend any more money, but after the shoddy work done the first time around at Good Year on Waialae, I'd rather keep my car at Midas where I can trust that the work will be done correctly and they actually treat their customers with much more respect. Customer service at Good Year was absolutely terrible, they talk to you like you're absolutely incompetent. read more

Do not use their coupons for safety check!! I prepaid for this service. They then called me back with $600 of car repairs to be done. I knew there wasn't anything wrong with my car. But they said if I didn't fix the car with them, they wouldn't pass my safety check. So I had to take my car somewhere else, pay the safety check fee again, but at least I passed. The 2nd safety check place said Midas took my air filter out and forgot to put it back, so I had to buy another air filter! It was an expensive lesson to learn, but at least it didn't cost me $600! read more

They told me over the phone that they suspect it is the starter which is causing the problem so they went ahead and replaced my car's starter. I was confused and in disbelief when I asked for my old starter back, they wouldn't give it back to me, telling me they exchange for some credit. It was incredibly frustrating because It was my car's starter and they never asked my consent about keeping it, I had to pay them $50 just to get it back. They also told me that the cause of the starter malfunctioning was due to an oil leak, but they did not bother to find it during the time as the main priority was just to get the car running again. They wanted me to come back another day but knowing that there's a possible oil leak, wouldn't the new starter just get damaged again? Plus they told me that if that were to happen, the warranty for the new one would get voided. There are starters that cost around 150-300 on Autozone, so If you guys don't want to get charged upwards of 1300 just to replace the starter, ask around for a local mechanic and buy the parts for cheaper.
