I usually come here for my safety checks and oil changes because they are fast and responsive when I make an inquiry online. The staff here do a good job and don't try to make things up. They are very straight to the point and Friendly! Leah at the front desk is always kind and helpfu when I call in and in person! I had a situation where I had an appointment last month but I needed to cancel and reschedule for todays date. I took my vehicle to this Midas location for a repair on my car that wasn't able to start. They told me over the phone that they suspect it is the starter which is causing the problem so they went ahead and replaced my car's starter. I was confused and in disbelief when I asked for my old starter back, they wouldn't give it back to me, telling me they exchange for some credit. It was incredibly frustrating because It was my car's starter and they never asked my consent about keeping it, I had to pay them $50 just to get it back. They also told me that the cause of the starter malfunctioning was due to an oil leak, but they did not bother to find it during the time as the main priority was just to get the car running again. They wanted me to come back another day but knowing that there's a possible oil leak, wouldn't the new starter just get damaged again? Plus they told me that if that were to happen, the warranty for the new one would get voided. There are starters that cost around 150-300 on Autozone, so If you guys don't want to get charged upwards of 1300 just to replace the starter, ask around for a local mechanic and buy the parts for cheaper. I would give no stars if had I had the option. Made an appointment for 7:30am since the guy who I made the appointment with said they open at 7am. Made the appointment for a diagnostic test since my check engine light came on. Got there at 7:30am and everything was closed. Supposed to be open at 7am. Waited a little while and no one showed up. AVOID! They will take advantage of you, rip you off and act like your friend while doing it. The gig works like this, they'll give you a low quote. Raise the price once you drop off the car and have left the property (encourages you to accept), then increase the price even more when you go to pick it up. A quote of $1,200 becomes over $3,000 at vehicle pick up. Behavior like this is the definition of unethical auto mechanics. Then they don't even acknowledge coupons from their own website. Save yourself the trouble, go somewhere else. If you have an appointment, cancel and go get a 2nd opinion elsewhere. read more

I am really disappointed. Total cliche of taking advantage of the customer and up selling something that they did not need. I had a nail in my tire took it to Midas to get it patched. After about 20 minutes the girl came back and said that a patch wouldn't work and that I needed a brand new tire. I had my boyfriend put the spare on and he said that I would just need a patch. Somehow my estimated $36 quote turned into a $173 quote. I asked them specifically for a patch the girl said it was too close to the edge and that it wouldn't be safe. On the higher quote it says that I declined the patch work. I wouldn't recommend this shop to anyone. read more

If I could give 10 stars, I would! I was out of town for almost a month and and came home to a tire pressure warning indicator on my display. I admit that my husband has been handling my car care for years, so I couldn't find the tire pressure gauge and didn't know offhand if gas stations even have air pumps nowadays. I was driving by Midas and remembered how quickly they did my safety check years ago. I turned in, walked in the office and explained about my tire pressure warning. The person immediately jumped up and asked if that was my car right outside. Told him it was and that I thought it might be the front right tire that was low. He said no problem and that he was planning to check all the tires! It is so nice to see service that cares and doesn't try get by with just doing the minimum. Shopped around for oil change prices, called this place to get a quote which seemed somewhat reasonable, but not great. Made an appointment and when I got there I realized they were going to charge me $30+ more than their quote. Apparently over the phone they conveniently forgot to mention the fees that they charge. Didn't want to waste time going somewhere else so I ended up giving them my business but it will be for the last time. Felt very deceived. It ended up costing me more to get an oil change here than my dealership. Would skip this place and go somewhere else. read more

Update: the other guy is Tim! Took my car in to get checked out due to extreme shaking/vibration. I had walked in and was hoping to get in, the tall guy at the desk was so nice & was able to squeeze me in to drop my car off and come back. 1hr passes by & I get a call already, Fred had checked on my car and explained to me over the phone what the problem was (not fixable for my piece of crap car). He spent his time being patient with me and explaining detail by detail. I come in to pick my car up and was greeted by Fred, he started to talk to me more about my car, gave me some ideas on what I could/should do. He probably spent about 1 hour explaining to me all over again. I gotta say, he is the BEST OF THE BEST! Super kind guy, so willing to help, most importantly he's HONEST!!!! No beating around the bush, not tryna get money out of you, seems like he truly cares for others. Somebody give this guy a promotion, and a iced water because it's so hot! I will be back. Oh! Went to Midas Dillingham to get maintenance service and safety check. Walked out of there after 2.5 hours and a charge of over $800. Didn't rotate my tires as my back tires needed to be replaced. I said I was going to Costco right after but they did wheel alignment that I did not request at $140. Also replaced my left front half shaft which cost was exorbitant amount. Also said my front and back strut needed to be replaced and I held off on that. I had another mechanic check it and he said it was okay and didn't need to be replaced. I am going to file another report at Midas Corporate office. I am an elderly female and there was another elderly lady that they were conning to get more work done on her car too. You have some very dishonest workers trying to make an impression on higher-ups at the expense of elderly women. NOT GOOD!!! I will not go back there fo$r any service and telling all my friends and on social media of this location and their scamming techniques. Something needs to be done!!! read more

My tire pressure light went on and while I could have tried to put my own air in I saw Midas and decided to stop there instead. They were busy when I came up, and I waited for the receptionist to be available. I told her the situation and she told me to pull my car up and she would have the guy look at it. Fast friendly service! I took my daughters car for safety check and they had me in and out in less than 30 min. They took care of everything and assisted me getting a doc from my insurance company. Always a pleasure. I admit, I panicked one night whil I was driving home from work by myself, at night, and my tire went flat and my tire jet was not where it was supposed to go. I emptied out my entire trunk, looked through my glove box and side doors, but Might have already started to freak out and assume someone forgot I give it back. I was my myself, tired, and frustrated. Once my husband came, ready to call a tow truck, he found it my center console. Thank god I realized I should have waited (& rule #1- panicking helps nothing- don't panic) but my frustration got the best of me. My center console does not shut right and I never put important anything in there, I assumed he asked and then saw me remove tire from where it was designated to be! Waa. We usually change the oil in our cars ourselves but since our truck is lifted and has off-road wheels that needed to be rotated we had to look for a place that could accommodate the height of the truck and rotate all the wheels. Midas was professional and straightforward. If you don't want to wait around at their office there are plenty of little restaurants/shops along the street you can walk to in order to pass the time. It took about 1 1/2 hrs for the oil change and tire rotation, which I didn't think was too long of a wait. After making sure with the front that the lug was put back before we left and being told it was, we received a call the following the day that in fact it wasn't. So we had to drive back down there the next day to pick it up. They were apologetic and honest about it so we weren't too irritated. Would return to have our truck's tires rotated again in the future. read more

In the past, I've been able to use auto shops' portable diagnostic code reader to tell me the code whenever my engine light comes on. This code has helped me in the past to tell me how serious a problem is or if it's simple- like when air was getting in through my gas tank from my gas cover once. So when my engine light came on a week ago I went to Midas to get the code read. This however is no longer a free service at some places!!! Midas was unable to help me unless I paid upwards of $75 to get the full diagnosis of my car's issue. I explained to them that I did not want to get it checked out at all and I simply only need the code, without any explanations to go along with it. They said they do not do this. To me this is just an obvious ploy to make money off your customers so I would not trust my car there for any work. It is important to note that another Midas on Waialae Ave. gave me the code for my car and also even mentioned what it most likely is and a ballpark figure for how much it would cost to fix there. And the code reading and his advice didn't cost me a penny! read more

Went to Midas at the end of March 2015 to get a oil change and a safety check. Had an horrible experience there, and the Store Manager contacted me about the problem I had. She then said she will send me a free oil change in the mail. She also said it might not be in the mail right away and may be a week or so since whoever sends it out takes awhile. Well it's now the end of May 2015 and I haven't received anything yet. If I ever do get the free oil change from Midas, I will definitely not go to the Midas on Beretania!!! Once I had a real problem with my car (transmission) they gave me the runaround and started to propose all these solutions that were not directly related to the problem that I had. Just went in today. They now have a new manager for all of Hawaii? So, this new manager now implemented a new rule that customers cannot bring in their own oil and filter for an oil change. If you want to bring in high-end oil (like Royal Purple) you cannot bring that in. You have to buy their oil.... at a reasonable price of $80+ bucks (for a complete oil change) vs. the $35 I used to pay when I brought in my own stuff. Midas... I went to you for 6 years and now I'm going some where else. What a disappointment to try and make an extra buck. read more

Literally the worst customer service here. The lady at the front is extremely rude. The staff seems like they have no clue what they are doing either. I made an appt for an oil change and had to wait 3 HOURS I walked to the store and came back and sat for a whole hour thinking it should be done by now. Apparently whoever was working on my car made a mistake and didn't put something back on for the oil change ( I wish I remember exactly what it was but I don't) and that took them a lot longer. My vehicle seemed worse when I left. They gave me a 10$ discount for the Inconvenience even though I was using a coupon already so I basically wasn't getting any "deal" here because I already had it discounted prior to this, it was the same Price with the coupon I gave already, but they tried to make it seem like I forgot. I got about 33% off on my service. Awesome! Midas Beratania gets 5 stars from be because honestly, they did nothing wrong. Everything was so easy! - I called ahead to make an appointment. Saturday at 7AM--No problem. Receptionist was super friendly. - Dropped car off on time. One of the shop guys filled in for receptionist and he was just as nice. - OMG my car was finished in about an hour. ONE HOUR. Not two, not even CLOSE to three. ONE HOUR. Exactly what they promised. (At another/popular auto repair shop, I've waited upwards of 3 hours for similar services, when they promised me an hour...not cool!) In addition to the service performed, they do a courtesy check of your car. They wrote down on the paper what I'll probably have to have changed in the future but no one pressured me into additional repairs. I really liked coming to this Midas--my car got serviced super quick! In addition to my coupon and the friendly staff, I'd definitely schedule another early appointment the next time I need car service. The only thing not so wonderful is that their waiting room is kind of dirty. I had BF pick me up instead. (Or, you could walk over to Safeway's Starbucks or Petco. I had no problems setting up an appointment for an oil change. The clerk at the desk was courteous, I chose the earliest time (@ 7am) when they opened. I got there and on this particular day there was a fatality on h1 so all the technicians minus one was severely late due to traffic. The only mechanic there, Wes, assured me whether the remaining associates showed up or not my car would be serviced that day. I notified him that I was hearing a noise in my car that sounded like a loose belt. Within 1 hour he called me, notified me they only need to tighten the belt. I've read the other reviews and my experiences have been very different. I generally take my cars in at 7:00AM for an oil change on a Saturday without an appointment and get a call back in a few hours that it is done. I received their inspection sheet with recommendations on additional service. No heavy sales pitch. Servco told me that I couldn't have a Saturday appointment for 4 weeks so I took my Corolla in to have the front pads and rotors changed. I was able to pick my car up 2 1/2 hours later. Brakes were fine and no more vibration. The people at the counter were courteous and free coffee was fine. Trouble free transaction. That is what I'm looking for. read more

Wonderful staff and wonderful service. I had to schedule a last minute oil change and safety check. Midas is one of the only places near my house that would complete both of these on the weekend without an appointment. I arrived at 12 noon and there was a long line. The woman at the front desk gave me the insider tip that it would be less busy in 2 hrs. So I ran a couple of errands, came back and yep...now no wait. They changed my oil (which included ordering an extra part) and answered all my questions in less than 1 hr. The waiting room is equipped with a tv and coffee to make the wait comfy, but I brought lunch and a book to make it even better. After my experience I would definitely recommend Midas to anyone who needs last minute car work completed. read more
