What an absolute perfect place for our anniversary dinner! I had called a week ahead to make sure we were able to get a table for the night of our anniversary. The lady was very helpful, I got disconnected and called back and she immediately asked if I had just called to make dinner reservations a few minutes ago. Super friendly and enthusiastic which sets the tone for our visit immediately. Although I had initially asked for an outdoor seating, the night of our reservation was actually rainy and cold so I asked if we could sit inside instead even though she assured me that we would not get wet and that there is a heater available outside should I choose to still sit out there. I'm a whimp when it comes to the cold/wet condition so we opted for dining inside. Our waiter was pleasant and brought a complimentary drink for toasting (rose/prosecco something like that). My husband does not like wine or any drinks related to the wine family so he only brought one glass. Shortly after, the sommelier came to help assist with my wine selection. My heart is usually pretty set on some cabernet sauvignon so she assisted in choosing the one for me in a sea of wine selection. My husband was pretty set on his beer selection so she went ahead and grabbed both beverage for us. We started with some plaintain bon bons which were delicious. Plaintain wrapped in bacon and some flavorful sauce. For my main course, I ordered a 16 oz ribeye, medium-rare and a side of their creamed greens. He ordered the salmon wellington. Both entree came perfectly prepared. My steak was fantastic and came with a complimentary sauce (I chose the red wine bordelaise). I am generally not a sauce person when it comes to my steak but the sauce was quite delicious! The salmon wellington was prepared nicely... No soggy bottom and the pastry was flaky and with the right crispness consistency. Then the icing in the cake... The dark chocolate torte. What a magnificent dessert! The sea salt sprinkled on top makes for a perfect flavor combination in every bite. Absolutely the best ending to a fairy tale dining experience. I will cherish such delicious memories from Michael's and I am so glad we had the opportunity to dine here while in Saint Augustine! We are in town for the weekend and came across Michael's. We saw that it was one of the top-rated restaurants in the area. We wanted to give it a try! We sat outside; their courtyard is quint and is a romantic setting. Avery, the hostess, was excellent, giving us great suggestions and setting us up with the heaters, as it was a little colder out than usual. Douglas, our server, was phenomenal; his professionalism and knowledge of the menu truly made our experience that much more special. Shout out to Lisa, who made my fiancé feel more at home due to their shared British roots. The food was delicious, with good-sized portions. Highly recommend the pomegranate sangria! We could not recommend Michael's more! Our dinner here is truly memorable and will be our favorite memory that we'll always treasure. I'm still savoring the wonderful food! I had a Rehearsal Dinner for my son, and we had 50 guests, including 6 rambunctious children. The cocktail hour and the passed hors d'oeuvres were scrumptious: poached Argentinian Shrimp, Steak Tartare Bruschetta, and Goat Cheese Terrine. My fav, the Terrine. The guests had 4 entrees to choose from, everything from the Cavatelli Pasta, Salmon Filet, La Chamba Chicken, and Steak & fries was delicious. My husband, a meat person, raved over the steak. All the guests had nothing but rave reviews. The Menus were printed and personalized. The decor and seating set-up were just perfect. Three small appetizers- the bread plate was the best, soooo good! Large tomahawk steak- tasted great and presentation was very nice. The veggie side may have been the tastiest thing we had, I'm not sure how they made potatoes taste that amazing but wow they were good. Tres leches for dessert and it was just fine. They 100% beat out Berns Steakhouse in Tampa Florida for us, which was our top steak spot. We loved it so much that I'm thinking about having rehearsal dinner there in January. This was overall a great place to eat for a fancy night out. The restaurant has an excellent wine selection (with a selection of wines from italy, spain, california, etc.), quaint outdoor seating, and great service. The indoor seating felt a bit cafeteria style. I would bring your bug spray and opt out of indoor seating. From a food perspective, the chef is puerto rican and does a great job of transforming dishes into unique experiences you will likely not find anywhere else. For example, we ordered a salmon wellington for our entree. Even though the salmon was inside of a pastry, it was cooked at a perfect medium temperature. There were plenty of unique appetizers as well- we ordered the montaditos which were plantain cups stuffed with very tender, juicy beef, and an avocado crema salsa. So juicy and flavorful! We started our meal off with a bottle of wine and a michaels board, which was only large enough for 2 people (in my opinion), and came with a hard cheese, a soft cheese similar to brie, a goat cheese baklava, prosciutto wrapped wagyu beef, a small piece of honey comb, sausage, and some nuts/peppers/fruit jams. He said it was more of a special occasion/date night type of dinner. But we called them at 5:45 and told them we would probably be late. ANYWAY! The wine list was great. We spent a little too much time trying to figure out a bottle from Spain but were lost on what we wanted, so we went for some glasses instead. I decided on something I hadn't had before and really loved it! It was the Monte Degli Angeli from Italy. It was very good and went with everything-even my swordfish! We chose the Plantain Bon Bons as our server suggested them and said they were packed was flavor-this was indeed true! Delicious!! Recommend you get those as a starter. We also got "Michael's Board" of charcuterie which was so fun! The cheeses paired with fruit was so fun to try and taste as the flavors change, I love a nicely pairs board like that! I ended up getting the special of the evening which was the Swordfish with brussels. My husband got the Filet mignon. Both of our meals were delicious! Couldn't ask for anything more. Came in for dinner on a date night. The restaurant is very cute/romantic. The menu is small and specialized but the food is amazing! We ordered the Tomahawk Steak dinner for 2. It's a 4 course meal for $200. The starter was the Michael's Board. It would have been nice to have a choice of something else, neither of us are big on charcuterie but it was tasty. I asked for my salad without dressing but I came dressed. It was pretty good. The steak we ordered medium as my date preferred that but I prefer medium rare. It came out medium rare so I was happy. It was a little more rare than I would even expect for medium rare but it was yummy! It came with 3 toppings. The butter one and tomato ones were my favorite. The scallion one was just ok. It came with asparagus and mashed potatoes. Those were both very good. For dessert we had the choice of 5 options and we picked the bananas foster, it was really good! Overall I'd say the meal was slightly over priced but only by $25 or so. The bottle of wine was reasonably priced. The staff was lovely. Megan was our server. Another woman came by who might of been their sommelier but she didn't introduce herself. I would like to go back and get their mofongo sometime as it looked really good going by. The bathroom was clean and cutely decorated. One final note: the place may or may not be haunted. We had a rose in a small vase which we moved out of the way to put the steak down. The website made it feel like a classier place and he thought we would have a nice romantic dinner. They even asked if it was a special occasion when he made the reservation. He wore a sports jacket and I wore a nice dress and we walked in to find it very casual, and seating like you would find in a Denny's. Not what we were expecting at all, so that was a let down. Our server, Sara, is the reason I ended up giving it 3 stars. She was wonderful and really helped us with our choices. We had a bottle of wine to start and then the crab cake croquettas. The Croquettas had a nice flavor, but only with the sauce, but they weren't even warm. I didn't want to make a fuss, but we ended up telling the person who picked up our plates. They kindly took 10% off our bill. I had the 8 Oz filet and we shared asparagus and Mac and cheese. My filet was cooked to perfection, but was so overly salted that I didn't really enjoy it. The asparagus was the really big thick kind, so very little top, which in my mind is the tastiest part. The Mac and cheese was bland, and again, barely warm. Have never been to a steak house that doesn't serve a baked potato. Sara continued to check in with us and provided us great service. We were too full for dessert. Unfortunately I wouldn't recommend eating here. For the amount of money we spent, it was a disappointment. Well even if we had spent half of what we spent it would have been a disappointment. SATISFACTORY We came here a few years ago and had a fantastic meal, so I was anxious to go here again. Back then it was called Michael's Tasting Room, but now they've shortened the name. Sadly, the tasting menu is gone. The restaurant has gone mainstream and now caters to the masses of tourists. Profitable I'm sure, but something special, such as attention to detail, is missing. We started with the Cast Iron Shrimp as an appetizer. It was pleasant, served in a cast iron fry pan. For our main courses we had the Pasture Raised Loin Lamb Chops and the Braised Beef Short Ribs. Both were lovely. We also had a serving of Rosemary Truffle Fries and they were excellent. I am happy for their success but sad that they are somewhat of a shadow of what they once were. We had made reservations a couple months ago. Our first time dining here. Our Waiter was fine. We ordered the shrimp appetizer with bread and wine. We both ordered steaks, mine was Wagyu I ordered it medium, my partner ordered rib eye medium, which took quite awhile we had seen the servers walking around with our dinners they finally found us. When my partner cut the steak it was very rare, my wagyu was raw very unappetizing. The waiter came over & we told him the situation, he offered to refire the ribeye and took it, we asked for the manager a young woman came over very rude we explained to her our steaks were both undercooked she had to "call" someone, she came back & said they will remove ribeye but the wagyu we had to pay for "half", we declined as it was not eaten, again she needed to call someone. She came back & said they will remove both I should hope so. We dine out a-lot to 5 star establishments etc. for the prices they charge they should have someone on site who can make decisions. No leadership on premise is a very poor run business. We paid for app, wine & $10 breadsticks & left. The " manager" was so rude & did not care we were paying customers. We heard they are moving 10mi away maybe they're already checked out! There are other restaurants in area better food & service. read more

We got dressed up a bit and headed to Michael's for our reservation. 'Florida Fancy' was in full effect from the other diners, and I can't say much about that with it being a tourist destination and all. Allow me to set the scene- near us is another couple, a small group of French tourists, a table of gregarious women and a party containing some sort of VIP. Further afield are several tables of larger (noisier) groups. The couple and the French folks were perfect. The VIP table got some of the best service I've ever seen in any establishment, looked like they were visited and checked on by every person working in a two block radius. The table of women...I'll get to them later. For food, none of the mains appealed to us, so we chose a selection of starters/tapas. We chose the cheese board, mushrooms, plantains wrapped in prosciutto and the tartare. The board was good, the selections on it were unique, flavorful and very good. I especially enjoyed the sheep's cheese. The mushrooms---me and those shrooms had a love affair for the ages. tons of garlic, flavor and this wonderful demi-baguette. the plantains were good, but I felt needed more sauce, as the starchiness of the plantain and the crispy meat left the palate a bit dry. The tartare was very good and exquisitely presented and a large portion. There was too little of the crostini with it, but luckily we still had some baguette to aid as a vehicle. Food- very good! Our server was the epitome of disinterested. She never refilled or asked if she could refill our beverages, which is not cool. Maybe she was just ready to go home. I dont know but she wasn't making our experience a delight I assure you. The other severs at the other tables nearby were lovely from where I was sitting. Back to the table of gregarious women. This has little to do with the establishment itself but it's such a story, I have to share it. Plus, the restaurant might be interested to know what we saw after their encounter. Here we go. From what I could tell, these women (BallCap, RedBlouse and friends) were having a good old time. They ate, laughed, chatted, etc. An absolute great time over there. Until the check came. At that point, RedBlouse decides to say her steak wasn't cooked properly (I got the impression she ate the whole thing). RedBlouse got louder and louder. A woman in a blazer appears, speaking calmly and softly. RedBlouse wont be deterred and continues to bellow and make A Scene. Everyone is taking notice now, presumably including Mr. VIP. MsBlazer softly says something that appeases RedBlouse and all calms down. After MsBlazer walks away, RedBlouse leaned over to BallCap and whispered something, followed by a devilish cackle. BallCap, was aghast and LOUDLY spat at RedBlouse, "You are GROSS and this is why you're still single!" And then BallCap stormed out of the restaurant. I can't say for sure what RedBlouse said to BallCap, but I have a pretty good idea. It was pretty obvious. And it was, indeed, gross behavior. Big Kudos to MsBlazer though, for working hard to deescalate and reason with such a cantankerous person. May the RedBlouses of the world eventually get their serving of Karma, because, Ew. read more

This was the best fine dining experience I've had in nearly a year... granted, I've not had a lot of opportunities since moving from Los Angeles to JAX in the middle of the pandemic. But I've had my eye on Chef Michael's gem in quaint St. Augustine for a while. Michael's has one of the only Chef Tasting Menu experience in the NE area of Florida. And after last night, I am a fanatic supporter! It was exquisite! My partner and I escaped the city for a weekend getaway, and I planned ahead to book up this fine dining adventure. We had a lovely corner table in corner plus blue velvet chairs. The ambience was quiet and calm with the absolute BEST selection of jazz & soul playing - Dizzie, Billie, Etta James, etc. Our waiter was Justin (we think that was his name but he said it fast and we were too shy to ask again- haha!, tall, slender, hair in a tasteful man bun!). I wish we would have asked his name because he added to the wonderful experience with his playful friendly persona. The wine list was extensive ranging from the affordable bottle of $30s to the posh price of $3150. The $80 5-course tasting menu is an option if everyone at your table gets it, which we did. Plus you can add wine pairings (total is $130), or pic your own wines (which we did). You can add on to the tasting menu to make it 6 or 7 courses with either an amuse bouche or cheese selection. Warm and comforting. The smoked tomatoes stole the show! 4th petite filet-- my FAVORITE course! Devine!!! The red wine bordelaise sauce was hide-in-the-corner-while-you-lick-the-plate-clean amazing! We tried to mind our manners and not do that! 5th - the Dulce de leche cheesecake... beautifully plated! We loved the cheesecake and the passion fruit gel but the passion fruit overshadowed the cheesecake flavor. So we let the gel sit and enjoyed the creamy more subtle flavors of the cheesecake without it. Along the way, I tried some wines, but saved the pomegranate port sangria for dessert and it was wonderful for just $10 a glass. Fantastic! I'd love to have taken some more with me. My point? This review is difficult to write for many reasons. I must say, the food was so amazing in taste though! I had this place bookmarked for years and I made reservations for New Year's Eve because they had a five course meal option. Well the option part was wrong. We arrive and provide the hostess with our reservation information. She quickly seats us and leaves the 5 course menus with us. We were contemplating whether to order off the special menu beforehand and we were not given the regular menu so we started contemplating leaving. When our server finally greeted us, she informed us the 5 course menu was the only option and stated "oh but you get to mix and match between the vegan and regular". Don't care. We ordered a bottle of wine and waited another twenty minutes. I was about to get up and walk out but hubby kept sitting. Once she opened the bottle, it was game over. We mix and matched our items. The crispy artichokes were my favorite item. The salads were okay. I hate mushrooms but they were unable to take them out (don't understand why not since it was $85). I ordered my steak medium well and hubby ordered his well. My steak arrived maybe medium and Hubby's looked like it was rare. We looked at each other and then stared at our dishes. Luckily, this was when our server was the quickest to our table and noticed before we could tell her. She apologized and took them back to the kitchen. The dessert was so delicious! Again, the portions were nowhere near $85 worth and neither was the service. We were given party favors and glasses of champagne (we were the last to receive). And sat there. We had no intentions of staying there when the ball dropped but did not see our server for a good half hour so we were stuck. One of the owners stopped by our table and I spoke about how I was told over the phone the NYE 5 course was an option and it definitely was not worth $85 per person. She apologized but at that point, I just wanted to get the $@#% outta there. I feel bad for people who are straight up vegetarians or vegan and had to pay $85. Probably the biggest regret of 2018 for sure. I may go back because the food was good but definitely not on a holiday (this menu without choice happens every holiday FYI). read more

Michael's is the perfect place for a special occasion or really any excuse to go out for GREAT food, service, and ambience. From start to finish, we enjoyed our meals. Our party of three tried a couple of salads - the Burrata and the beet with goat cheese. Both had fresh ingredients with the right touch of dressing. For entrees, we tried the Beef Wellington and the Filet Mignon. The steaks were WONDERFUL. I think my dreams will be filled with Wellington and that is A-OK. And, of course, the service was impeccable. Our server was a total pro with spot-on recommendations and knowledge of the menu (and clearly knows and loves food which is also a plus). Everyone was also asked if their dinner was a special occasion while no one asked us (it was our 1 year marriage anniversary). We went here based on my bf's coworkers recommendation and it definitely didn't disappoint! We got the dinner for two which was a bit pricey but we'll worth it with LOTS of food including 3 appetizers, a 40 oz bone-in rib-eye with market veggies and a dessert. They accommodated us on one of the apps bc my boyfriend can't have shrimp and they let us choose a different dessert because I'm not a fan of flan. Great food and exceptional service! This was our first time dining at Michael's and it was special. Our steaks were perfectly prepared. Additionally the interior of the restaurant is comfortable, clean and quiet. It was nice to be able to have a conversation and not have to yell over the background noise to be heard. Our waiter was very social, and the food was incredible! I got the salmon and others in my family got the steak and scallops. All of us enjoyed our meals. I would definitely recommend making a reservation earlier if you have a specific time you would like to eat here. To be fair, I visited in the height of spring break season so that may not be a problem year-round. read more

Celebrated my husband's birthday last night at Michael's St Augustine. What a stellar experience! We enjoyed a full bodied red blend, Chalk Hill Estate Red, that was delicious. The manchego cheese with dried cherries and marcona almonds was a sweet, salty, and crunchy starter! Then out came the seacuterie! What a beautiful plate! Clean and mildly briny Malpeque oysters, smoked salmon with caper berries and pickled red onions, octopus with an olive salsa, and white anchovies on toast. We split the green salad and wondered how we were going to be able to eat our steaks! I got the ribeye with the Oscar topping and my husband got the bone in filet with the blue cheese enhancement. For sides, we had the mousseline potatoes, Brussels sprouts, and the creamed greens. As always, our steaks were perfectly seasoned and prepared. We couldn't even think about dessert!
