We saw that the tasting was only $5 per person and couldn't pass it up as a cheap and easy thing to do while in St. Augustine. We stopped in unexpectedly, signed in without any trouble, and were done in under a half hour. It helped that it wasn't crowded at all and our group of 5 were the only ones on the tasting tour at the time. You get to taste 4 different cocktails made with their various products. The first two were decent, with the second being a step up from the first. The third was our favorite by far, a tiki rum cocktail that actually had a really nice flavor to it. The fourth and final one was a straight vodka pour from an older woman at the last station. She told us that good vodka shouldn't taste like nail polish, which is a bold thing to say right before handing someone a sample that tasted pretty much exactly like acetone. A couple of us couldn't even finish it. The staff overall were super friendly though, and it was genuinely cool getting to go behind the scenes and see all the big machinery in the distillery. Now the gift shop at the end is a different story. Everything was overpriced, and their clearance section was almost insulting, with maybe $2 knocked off the regular prices. We won't be buying any of their products, but for $5 the tasting itself was a fun little experience worth checking out if you're in the area.

Such a fun distillery with some of the sweetest people. The tour $5 was great with 4 samples. You can redeem the $5 coupon for a purchase in the gift shop and add a military discount. The staff were amazing. My niece lost a toy and the staff looked all over the place and found her toy.

Loved our experience here and for 5 bucks a person it's a great way to sample their products and head to the gift shop. No one's pushing you to buy anything which I like. It's a no pressure scenario. They get our money and we get to try 4 drinks . It's their bourbon, rum, gin and vodka with mixers . The people serving us were very nice and the place was clean and tidy and it was fun looking at all of the barrels. It is a must do when you are in St Augustine . Their spirits are smooth and tasty

The Distillery is decorated for Christmas and I'm loving every bit of it. The holiday spirits are high in more than one way with their self guided free tasting. Annabelle was phenomenal as one of the bartenders for gin and rum, Mike was also very knowledgeable. We tried the mule mix with vodka, the gin with the citrus mix, and I tried the bourbon mix with the straight bourbon and the port rum. I highly recommend this distillery! 10/10

The distillery was beautiful and nice but the lady that checked this out was rude as can be FYI there are no prices on the whiskey on the shelves for the higher in whiskeys. We thought we were paying $80 and when we went to bring up two bottles it was $408 and she copped an attitude and we said oh no we don't want those .

Wow wow wow the easiest 5 stars! We came here on a recommendation from a friend, and now I'm recommending it to everyone who comes to St. Augustine! We did the free self-guided tour, which includes 4 cocktail samples (not a whole drink, just a sample). Every single one was delicious and smooth, and served fresh by a bartender in different areas throughout the tour. There were signs explaining the different parts of the distilling process, an all of the staff were knowledgeable and helpful, especially the girl in the last room.

I bought a ticket for the Spirit of Florida Bourbon Experience. I checked in at the counter quite early, and was given a wristband for the tour. We were invited to visit the gift shop or wait in the lobby before the tour started. We were given free samples of a Florida mule drink while we waited as well. When the tour started, we were sent to a classroom like are where we were lectured about the spirits and given 4 different samples to try. Then we visited the distillery area and learned how their process worked. Our guide, Nelson, was very informative and entertaining, and the spirits were very strong. I wished we were given the spirits samples at the end as we we were quite tipsy and lost track of what our guide was discussing, but I guess better early then late so you can sober up and drive safely back home. The gift shop was nice and had lots of souvenirs to buy, and there was even a restaurant too. I didn't buy any gifts or eat in the restaurant, but maybe next time. Parking was free at their lot, but it can get difficult to find one during the busy hours. For 40 dollars after taxes and fees, the guided tour was nice and informative. And the samples are pretty strong. It was a fun and enjoyable experience, and will definitely be back for another experience.

Loved the tastings. It was short, but well laid out and organized. I like the mixed drink offerings, but you should definitely have the options for both straight and mixed during the tastings. I don't find a particular drink I loved, but it was a nice visit.

Great Free tasting tour - 3 mixed tasting then straight liquors at the end on their store. They have you walking around to a couple of stations. You get your ID checked, get a wristband and fill out info on an iPad. Walking in to the first area, it seemed small but then it opens up to their distillery area and the store which was much bigger Everyone was pretty friendly and knowledgeable. They gave you a little story or info on the liquors and mixes. The vodka was surprisingly good for being made with the usual Florida cane. Reminded me more of a rum since it's made with sugar canes that look similar to it. It was pretty smooth and had to try a couple straight shots to make sure it was actually that good. No astringent aftertaste at all. The higher proofed and "overproofed" named rums were actually nicely made as well. Good finish with that burn, it would definitely be good in mixed cocktails. Especially with either Tiki mixer which was compared to a painkiller

Upon arrival, the distillery looks small but once you get inside, it's rather large and really cool because it wraps around into a restaurant located right next-door. We came for the tasting, we left with several bottles. For me? I call that success. Everyone was so genuine, extremely knowledgeable and their to make you have a good time. We tried several different spirits and even paid for the cool 10 year aged bourbon. The only complaint was that it was extremely crowded and there were constant waves of people so I would recommend if you don't like crowds to do the $35 private

Oh em gee! This place is AWESOME! Everyone was so mixed it was a whole vibe and the tastings were delicious and free. The people pouring were so knowledgeable and helpful. We had a great time!!!! This is a St. Augustine must!

The Perfect Pair Tasting Experience (Bourbons & Truffles)

I had a great time visiting this distillery. It was engaging, the employees were all super friendly & who can say no to a self guided tour with free samples?! From the moment you walk in there's someone to greet you & explain what they have to offer. There's a variety of drinks to sample & they tell you how to make the cocktails if you want to do it at home. The distillery is on the smaller side but you can really see how much character is packed within their walls. You're surrounded by the barrels & stills that they use to craft their delicious bourbons in while the smell of their mash fills your nostrils. It's heavenly. I also did the "perfect pair tasting experience" which only costs $24. During this, you're given 3 samples of their bourbon along with 3 specialty truffles from a local chocolatier. The idea behind this experience is learning how to profile the bourbons based off its many different flavor notes. The guide gives a history of the drinks, as well as the distillery & helps you navigate the fun task of sampling flavorful bourbons. I strongly recommend giving this tour a go if you want to enjoy your visit even more than what they offer for free! They even credit you part of your tour fee back as a gift card to use in their shop after. Coming here is a great time if you're looking for something to do a little off the beaten path of downtown. You can definitely make a good time out of your visit here if you play your cards right. There's multiple guided experiences also, one of which you can bottle your own bourbon during. If the free route is more your pace then you'll still be plenty satisfied with your visit. I can't wait to come back when I'm in the area.

The owner renovated the inside so that it's got modern amenities and sleeps six people comfortably. The first time we visited the place, it was like an awakening. It was the PERFECT place for my husband and I to get have our wedding. Of course, we had 85 guests, so the ceremony had to be elsewhere, but this was perfect for the reception. It was the perfect size for everyone to move around freely and still have a small dance floor. Also the price is crazy good. You will NOT find a more reasonable deal in town. Bring in your own vendors and you can create a fabulous wedding on a modest budget. I'm not just saying that because I am the proud bride. When originally searching for a wedding venue we had a few must-haves, which included a location with historical character, in driving distance from Orlando, and located in a town where out-of-state visitors could enjoy exploring. And so we focused in on St. Augustine. I had a good gut instinct about the Sanchez House from the moment I discovered them online, and I must shamelessly admit that I stalked the websites of every couple who had their wedding at the Sanchez House. We quickly booked a visit to the Sanchez House, because they are only able to hold 12 weddings a year due to being zoned in a residential area. We met with the owner, Blake, who shared with us the history of the home, gave tips from other weddings held on the premise, and shared some of his favorite vendors. When we experienced the venue in person, we fell even more in love with the charm that was evident around every corner of the house! The SH offers a brick courtyard, artificial turf front lawn, large gathering room, dining room, kitchen, office, two bedrooms, small one-car garage, and an attic. Not only can you hold your wedding events at the house, but you are able to stay there, as well. This allowed us and our bridal party, 6 in total, to stay at the house. So convenient! After booking the Sanchez House, we decided to extend our celebration into an entire weekend. Our events spanned from 50 to 90 guests, and SH accommodates them comfortably. The house is in an excellent location by the bay and walking distance to historic St. George Street. At the SH, we were able to select our own vendors. We held our ceremony in the courtyard which transformed to the dance floor. The front lawn was donned with a heated tent and tables on the coldest Florida winter day. It even snowed lightly! Guests had the chance to mingle throughout the house in the dining room, gathering room, and balcony. I would note that the parking around the SH can be challenging, but we gave plenty of parking options for guests through our wedding website and social media, and suggested our guests to stay at one of the nearby hotels or bed & breakfasts. I highly recommend the Sanchez House for any couple looking for an intimate St. Augustine venue!

About this oldest home González-Álvarez House Historic house in Florida, United States The González-Álvarez House, also known as The Oldest House, is a historic house museum at 14 St. Francis Street in St. Augustine, Florida. With a construction history dating to about 1723, it is believed to be the oldest surviving house in St. Augustine. It is also an important example of St. Augustine's Spanish colonial architectural style, with later modifications by English owners. It was designated a U.S. National Historic Landmark in 1970. The house is now owned by the St. Augustine Historical Society and is open for public tours as part of the Oldest House Museum Complex. Evidence can be seen of the Spanish, British, and American occupations of St. Augustine. The González-Álvarez House is located in a residential area south of downtown St. Augustine, on the north side of St. Francis Street between Charlotte and Marine Streets. It is a two-story structure, its first floor built of coquina and its upper level framed in wood with a clapboarded exterior. It is covered by a hip roof finished with wooden shingles. The building is reflective of multiple periods of alteration and enlargement, during different periods of colonial administration. The land on which this house stands has been occupied since the 17th century, when a building is documented to have been standing here. The present house's earliest period of construction dates to about 1723, when the first floor was built, and it was documented as being occupied by Tomás González y Hernández, an artilleryman at the Castillo de San Marcos, and his family. The design of this house is one that was adopted by Spanish colonial settlers to deal with local living conditions and available building materials. It was built of readily available coquina limestone, with its main thick walls oriented east-west, and has an open covered loggia on the east side. The latter allows prevailing southeasterly winds to cool the structure, while the thick walls provide insulation from hot weather. The interior floors are made of tabby concrete. After the British took over Florida in 1763, the González family left for Cuba. In 1774 the house was purchased by Major Joseph Peavett, an Englishman, who added the wood-frame second story, and put glass windows into openings previously only enclosed by wooden shutters. It was further enlarged by the third owner, Geronimo Alvarez, who added a two-story wing built of coquina. The house was taken over by the St. Augustine Historical Society in 1918, which undertook its restoration to a late 19th-century appearance in 1959-60, reversing a number of intervening alterations. Always a great experience! We visited two days on a row and had Lexi take us through the spirit…read moretasting both times. What a fantastic employee! Each time we've visited we have had wonderful experiences. Everyone is always a joy to interact with. Lexi had a large group during our first visit and then just the two of us the second time. Both times we walked out with our favorite spirits and some new ones. The peanut butter whiskey is always a staple and this one is my favorite. We now have a new addition to our must-have collection, mango datil whiskey. I dont even mix these with anything as they are incredibly smooth. Can you? Sure. But why? The spirits also change out and I'm a little sad that the cookie dough whiskey will become seasonal (that one did mix well with the peanut butter and caramel). But the new key lime pie rum was delicious and the coconut rum is another favorite. Was there anything we didn't like? I am not a fan of the roasted pecan whiskey but I can appreciate why others will enjoy it. In our tasting, Lexi swapped that one out for me so I didn't miss out. The care and joy the team has is palpable and a must stop when visiting the St Augustine area. Big fan and we now stop by multiple times each visit to sample and take home our favorites. Im excited to try the new rye whiskey on a future visit. One thing to keep in mind is that the tasting used to be free and now costs $5. Personally, I don't mind since there is a $5 coupon to use in the store that can be stacked so it becomes essentially free but it's a relatively recent change (the same applies to the nearby St Augustine Distillery and San Sebastian Winery). Do I wish that this one was still free? Of course. Will it stop me from visiting? Nope. It just breaks up my purchases so I can apply the cost each time. (And it's much better than the winery which gives you a plastic cup...nice but not really repeatable.) Overall, City Gate continues to be my favorite Distillery for flavored spirits. Thanks for always providing a great experience and product! And thank you to Lexi for being awesome!

Jessica and Tanner Went in for a tasting- $5 for 10…read moredifferent shots. Jessica was really sweet she was feeding our dog treats and held our purchases until we could pick them up later. Tanner did the tasting- his description of each was spot on. We ended up getting the salted caramel (tastes like butter beer)
