I had a blast here several months ago with some family members. We decided go do a tasting and had so much fun. I can't recall the name of the young lady we had unfortunately, but she was fantastic and so much fun. My family ended up buying a few bottles to take home with them. It was a nice local place to stop by and support. It had a really good vibe when you walked in. It looked like your typical local distillery room when you come on with the barrels. I don't go to St Augustine very often but if you love to get a taste of local spirits when you are visiting places I highly recommend this place. read more

Always a great experience! We visited two days on a row and had Lexi take us through the spirit tasting both times. What a fantastic employee! Each time we've visited we have had wonderful experiences. Everyone is always a joy to interact with. Lexi had a large group during our first visit and then just the two of us the second time. Both times we walked out with our favorite spirits and some new ones. The peanut butter whiskey is always a staple and this one is my favorite. We now have a new addition to our must-have collection, mango datil whiskey. I dont even mix these with anything as they are incredibly smooth. Can you? Sure. But why? The spirits also change out and I'm a little sad that the cookie dough whiskey will become seasonal (that one did mix well with the peanut butter and caramel). But the new key lime pie rum was delicious and the coconut rum is another favorite. Was there anything we didn't like? I am not a fan of the roasted pecan whiskey but I can appreciate why others will enjoy it. In our tasting, Lexi swapped that one out for me so I didn't miss out. The care and joy the team has is palpable and a must stop when visiting the St Augustine area. Big fan and we now stop by multiple times each visit to sample and take home our favorites. Im excited to try the new rye whiskey on a future visit. One thing to keep in mind is that the tasting used to be free and now costs $5. Personally, I don't mind since there is a $5 coupon to use in the store that can be stacked so it becomes essentially free but it's a relatively recent change (the same applies to the nearby St Augustine Distillery and San Sebastian Winery). Do I wish that this one was still free? Of course. Will it stop me from visiting? Nope. It just breaks up my purchases so I can apply the cost each time. (And it's much better than the winery which gives you a plastic cup...nice but not really repeatable.) Overall, City Gate continues to be my favorite Distillery for flavored spirits. SO and I made a quick stop for a bourbon tasting. It's $10 for the bourbon tasting and if you pay an extra $5, then you can top it off with their 1565 rye whiskey. We enjoyed our visit today. For the price we thought it was certainly worth it. They provided about 10 different options for tasting. I will say that their flavored options are incredibly sweet so if that's not your thing you might was skip this. Collin was hilarious and definitely kept the vibe and laughter up. His pours were on point and was a pleasure to meet. I didn't like trust they throw away the liquor you don't drink. I was with my partner who is not a big drinker. Instead of sharing, they'd come by and throw away any liquor that wasn't drank. I don't understand the thought process behind this. read more

This was the best stop of our trip and your next adventure when you head to St.augustine if you can handle good liquor. $5.00 gets you a little buzz, good times and a coupon to purchase once the tour is over. We had rum , moonshine and whiskey and 98% of them were really good. Moonshine : the apple pie was the best ! Whiskey : good toss between salted caramel and maple old fashioned. Rum - definitely the coconut ! They had great specials and have lots of gift ideas. Today my mom and I stopped at Citigate spirits off of Saint George Street in Saint Augustine. I did The five dollar tasting which included at 10 tastings of whiskey rum or moonshine. I could not do four of the whiskeys due to my dairy and nut allergies. However Christine was our tasting guide she was superb, kind, and just an overall joy to be around!! Christine was our testing coordinator I guess you would say. I tasted 2 of the Rums the coconut and pineapple, the peach whiskey with my is my absolute favorite and then two of the moonshines the blue raspberry and the sweet tea. For doing the tasting I did get a five dollars off coupon that I could use towards any of the merchandise or any of the bottles of liquor will definitely be stopping by tomorrow. The ambience is a little bit more towards the older inside it is a location in an old building up but it has the charms of a newer building with the tasting and merchandise inside and outside seating as well. 10/10 read more

I haven't been to St. Augustine in over 15 years but I was told I must come here when I visited. It's located in the heart of downtown so it's very easy to find & conveniently located near the other touristy areas. Although I was under the impression they did free tastings, I think that's changed recently because they charged $5 at the door. With that said, it's well worth it & I had a great time trying some of their delicious, locally-crafted spirits. The tasting consists of 10 varieties including different flavored rum, whiskey & moonshine. Count me in! You really can't beat it because the $5 entry fee gets given back to you in the form of a gift card to use in their shop afterward. I also like that they allow you to stack them if someone in your party doesn't use theirs. Everyone working here was incredibly friendly & the bar tender who ran our tasting had a good attitude. The staff were very welcoming & they seemed happy to be there. They kept the crowds moving but it didn't feel we were being rushed to get out of there. I took home a bottle of orange n cream moonshine which I sampled during the tasting. I'll definitely be back again next time I'm around & I highly suggest others to visit if they never have. I hope they have different spirits they rotate during the tasting because I'd love to try something new next time. read more

This is a fun little stop in Saint Augustine, here you get to sample a variety of spirit. It was once free to do, but now there is a five dollar charge per person which can go towards a purchase, so, you get it back I highly recommended adding this to your itinerary if you are visiting the historic District of Saint Augustine, the servers are fun and animated and not to mention well-versed in the products they offer. Can't tell you how many times I've brought family and friends over to City Gate Spirits for their tasting! Part of my go to spots for any people that visit me while living in Jacksonville. It used to be free but now is $5, honestly not an issue at all. Their staff members are always kind, generous, and hilarious. We had Colin last time and my dad was laughing way before I'm sure the tasting had taken effect lol. I love the rotating spirits they have, I'm always trying new ones whenever I come by. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted and asked for our ID. Christine was our spirits guide (liquid spirits lol). She was fabulous! This was my first time trying the distillery and me and my sister were impressed! We tried 10 small samples. Some of my favorites were the Smoked Maple, Peach and Salted Carmel whiskeys. My least favorite was the Sweet Tea Moonshine. Keep in mind, I'm typically not a whiskey fan, but I'm now a fan of City Gate. If you buy three bottles, the third is half off. My sister bought two, and I purchased the seasonal Limoncello, which we did not sample. But I tried it when I got home and I loved it! They had other deals which I can not remember. If you have not come here before while visiting Saint Augustine, I can assure you that your itinerary was crazy because this place was fantastic. The staff there was super amazing the tour you pretty much get to try everything they have and some of the ideas they had were spot on. A few of their drinks or bottles, one of the late dimensions that you could potentially put it on bourbon just a splash just to have that taste of their own drinks into any bourbon or whiskey and she was 100% correct it was fantastic. I tried it and I highly recommend you going back there and doing the tour and taking a couple bottles home. read more

This is the most amazing tasting experience I had in St. Agustine. They offer free tasting of their unique flavors of rum and moonshine. My favorites were definitely the coconut rum and the apple pie moonshine. The girl serving the liquor was very energetic, she did a great job explaining each of the samples and making great jokes in the meantime. The store is nice, too. My husband and I came out for an early Mother's Day weekend get away and we visited a few tasting but our absolute favorite was the city gates spirits! We were greeted by lots of people and the ones that really stuck out were Lexi, Keeley and Janel they were so welcoming and sweet! We didn't even know this spot existed and didn't plan on adding it to our busy schedule but it was a excellent discovery and I would highly recommend any tourist or locals give it a shot or 15....and come try it out. The happy host caught our attention after eating at Auggies taproom behind it. Located right across from the fort and near the north end of the Old City. We were immediately greeted and welcomed in with warm smiles. Honestly a refreshing difference compared to other distillery's in the area. Despite having our kids they made us feel very welcome and "happy" haha. We got to try over 15 samples varying in rums, vodkas and moonshine. All three bartenders for each spirit were extremely passionate, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The whole process is pretty quick but you will find flavors you never knew you would love. We ended up buying quite a bit of bottles we didn't anticipate purchasing but they were that good! I highly recommend coming here and giving their spirits a good try. read more

As a whiskey lover, it doesn't get any better than this. They offer 10, yes 10!, different samples of their flavored whiskeys and moonshines. Since moonshine can be a bit overwhelming on its own (to the uninitiated, that is), the nice people at City Gate Spirits add several creative and tasty mixes to the alcohol. For example, orange & cream moonshine and apple moonshine were on the tasting menu when we visited. The samples are appropriately sized so that you might get a little buzz going after trying them all, but not too drunk to remember which spirits you tasted so that you can buy some bottles in their showroom. Every time I come to St Augustine I make it a duty to stop at citygate spirits. They have a tasting which is completely free, where you try rum, moonshine and whiskey. They are very small samples but it's because it's what they're legally allowed to pour for free. The lady I was with when it came to the tasting explained the different flavors they use in each of the drinks and what some of her favorite drinks were and what they go good to pair with. One of my favorite drinks they have here is the coconut rum, as well as the cookie dough whiskey which is a very recent addition that just began being produced in December for the holiday season. Everything they have they distill and bottle right on location and they are having an amazing deal where every alcohol is 20% off. They also create their own mixers and the tiki mixer mixed with the rum was absolutely exceptional because we got to try a little sample of that as well. This last time I got to try the coconut rum which was very subtle with flavor and very smooth as well as peanut butter whiskey which was good but a little too much in my opinion and I love peanut butter, a couple moonshines which were very smooth and the cookie dough whiskey which by far was the winner of the tasting in my opinion! I could definitely see myself keeping this Whiskey in the freezer and having some nice cocktails with it! The place is very spacious and there are multiple areas where the workers have the tastings going on so you are never going to wait more than 5 or 10 minutes to step up and try your hand at 10 different samples! We arrived on a Saturday around 2-3pm. Wait to get in was about 15-20 minutes for the "tasting". Definitely worth it in my opinion and you will leave with a buzz assuming you try all of them. Our "guide" was super cool. They do accept tips. There's a no sharing policy, so don't expect to come with someone that doesn't drink and have them pass along their sample. They won't allow it here. Definitely a Must Try. Yes, it's different then the Distillery and tour just SW of downtown near San Sebastián Winery. But if your ok and like trying flavored whiskey, then go here. Abundant options. The tasting visit is not long and you get your one small group with an individual presenter. There are 10 flavors. Its a small pour on purpose so don't be disappointed if your expecting a Wine Taste pour. We enjoyed and our presenter was Amazing, fun, and funny. Can't remember her name but if we recall, had just moved to St Aug from up North. She was great!! There are obviously product options for purchase. Stopped in after an extended visit at the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument. It's small but cozy. Vera was our guide through five whiskeys, a rum and several different styles of moonshine. Her descriptions of each were spot on and we identified some favorites. Her presentation was superb. We spent more than we planned, but not more than we wanted. It's definitely going to be a pleasure to return on our next swing though this historic town. read more
