I'm in my bridal era and I've visited this store quite a bit! I like how clean and organized the store is. I come mostly for cricut supplies which luckily is usually on sale. They keep it stocked enough but I wish they had more stock of the smart vinyl for the cricut xtra. No worries! I make it work with the other types. They also have a fair selection of frames that seem to always be on sale. I love coming in for the different seasons because they always have fun holiday merch. The employees are friendly in the front but I wish there was more staff to assist on the floor. Parking lot can get full on the weekends ( I think because it's really close to Ross ) so I prefer to come during the week. read more

I visit this location quite often. Not because it's the best, but because of its location. This store has an odd layout. It doesn't flow. The blank shirts aren't always stocked. Went to Michaels to have photos framed for a funeral service scheduled on 1/9. I was assured that the photos will be ready 1/7 which was great, giving us time to drop them off at the funeral home. The morning of 1/7 I got a call from a CINDY telling me that there's a delay and I wont be able to pick the frames up as promised. I told her that it's for a service on Friday. So it needs be be ready as promised. She said she'll make phone calls and she'll get back to me. That was before 10am morning of the 7th. 5pm came and I never heard from CINDY.. so I called... she did not really do anything.. didn't make phone calls... so of course, I was upset. She keeps insisting that I did not pay for the expedited fee although I believe I did thus the 1/7 delivery/pick up day. She keeps telling me that she was SO BUSY so she wasn't able to look into it as if that's a great excuse. Of course, anyone would be more upset. Finally, she said, she'll put the pics in a cheaper/simple frame and just replace them when the right framed come. I told her to do what she needs to do and call me when it's ready. She calls back in 3 minutes... telling me to just call the manager the next morning, and that she can't do anything, and she needs to go home then hangs up on me. I was really upset. She was so cold. That's how Michaels treat grieving customers? It's their fault that they did not follow through with the 1/7 scheduled pick-up. Cindy had over 7 hours to get back to me but never did and did not really do anything. Never got any follow-ups... Friday 1/9 came, still no phone calls... had to go to the funeral service without the framed pictures.. my husband stayed home to wait for Michaels to call. Nothing. He had to call them to check. Finally, a call from Michaels near noon. My husband picked them up. No apologies. Nothing! No pictures of my loved one during the service because Michaels did not care. So disappointing. By the time my husband went to the service, it was done. So the pictures were not even used. All that because CIndy did not care.. Michaels did not care. So Beware! Went to Michael's yesterday to get 14 balloons blown up for my daughter.. took the lady 30 minutes to blow up, we left at 5:45 by 11pm the balloon were on the floor.. the balloons weren't even inflated all the way bc I bought the same pack and inflated them at home for floor decor and they are much larger. Not sure why they cannot refund my balloons and want me to come back (going out of my way) with the balloons. Didn't even offer the stuff that makes the balloons last longer. Not only that if you're going to take on party city's job blowing balloons up make sure they are lasting at least a day in a half. Extremely disappointing would've had a better opportunity but the helium tank and done it myself they probably would've lasted longer. Came in to this location a few weeks ago to grab a few things quickly and found this store was pretty clean and organized. I was greeted by a sweet lady named Andrea. I asked her where to find the things I was looking for and she was so kind to tell me exactly where they were located. Even from afar I can hear her and saw her greeting people warmly and all smiles. There were enough employees in the aisles to help out customers which is so refreshing. It's very helpful to have workers around for questions (which I definitely had) and each of them I encountered today were extremely helpful, available, eager to help and quite knowledgeable. My Covid update bumps my rating up from two stars to 4+ stars. Impressive jump! I've been using their Curbside Pickup since Covid, with mixed (but mostly good) results. Consistently, this San Leandro store has what I need in stock. They fulfill my online order quickly so I can come get my crafting needs without having to walk up and down the aisles. Curbside itself doesn't always work as planned. More often than not, the "reserved" Curbside pickup spots are in use (not by people doing curbside pickup), but what can ya do? This past Sunday I stopped by to make an exchange. My receipt clearly says that I can make an exchange within 60 days for unopened items. There was a young lady working in the check out area. The young lady was extremely over weight and rude. When I asked to make an exchange she told me that they don't do exchanges. She told me that I would have to buy the new item first, and then she would do my return. Although this sounded out of the ordinary I went ahead and bought my new item on the self checkout out machine while she stood there and watched me. This is to review Michaels on Hesperian Blvd. near the Bayfair Mall in San Leandro. Today's mission was to buy Testors enamel paints, wooden dowels, and a collection of stickers (nine birds, four flowers, four green plants) made by Paper House Productions. At the center of each flower sticker is an amber-colored plastic bead looking like a cut gem. Michaels sells dowels with a round cross-section and with a square-shaped cross section. I needed the dowels to repair a tripod that I use to help a cloth doll stand up in some of my landscape photographs. This doll "Moanie" is two feet high. Moanie and another doll, Strawberry Shortcake, appear in some of my landscape photographs from Death Valley N.P., Joshua Tree N.P., Redwood Regional Park, Bolinas Ridge Trail, Seaview Trail and Selby Trail in Tilden Park, and Maple Canyon in Hayward. TESTORS ENAMELS. For the past ten years, I have relied mainly on Michaels as a source of Testors enamel paints, where my goal was to write diaries on rocks and stones that I found sitting in the middle of various hiking trails, during my hikes at Laguna Mtn., Fortuna Saddle Trail, Volcan Mtn., Flat Frog Trail, Muir Beach, Iron Mountain, Mt. Woodson, and Palomarin Beach. The attached photographs show some of these painted rocks and stones. I use the word "stone" to refer to rocks that have been made smooth by hundreds of years of pounding and churning by rain or by the tides. Regarding the rocks and stones in my posted photographs, for the past three months, I have spent one hour per day painting diaries on these rocks and stones. Every word that you see in my diaries takes the form of three layers of paint, written on top of each other. GREAT EXPERIENCES WITH EMPLOYEES. During my recent visit at Michaels, I spoke with three of the employees. All three were attentive and answered my questions, for example, regarding the aisle where I could find Testors enamel paint. Also, I asked what kind of music was being played over the sound system. I asked, "This music does not seem to be hip-hop, or rap, and I know that it is not rock'n'roll or disco-dance music. Can you tell me what it is?" The employee answered, "This is Billboard Tope 100 dance music." After I paid for the bird stickers and the wooden dowels, I asked if Michaels sold enamel paint. The employee had no problem at all with the fact that my shopping hour was divided into 2 parts. He put my paid items aside behind his counter, while I went off to pick out the paint. "Well," I thought, "that was a good solution to a potentially difficult problem." When I returned I paid for the paints. To summarize, the employees are responsive, knowledgeable, and smart. MERCHANDISE. We find 20 sizes and colors of electric candles, each shaped like a real candle. We find long wooden toothpicks for sticking into cakes or cupcakes, each holding a paper cut-out design of a colorful pineapple, butterfly, rainbow, or pinwheel. There is a big selection of icing mixes for cake decorating, such as buttercream flavor and chocolate flavor. We find sets of metal flatware that are colored silver, copper, or gold. A couple of aisles at Michaels have 600 different kinds of ribbons, and these have patterns of glittery diamonds, or shiny copper dots, or solid colors. There are also 150 kinds of LACE RIBBONS. These are each made of a strip of solid cloth but with a detailed lacy cut-out pattern. Another aisle has baskets made of woven wood, and large colored hollow eggs. Some eggs are 12 inches x 18 inches, and they are colored pink, metallic scarlet, or blue with silver speckles. The eggs are snap-together eggs. One aisle is filled with artificial indoor plants, and these come in flower pots with simulated earth. The plants look amazingly real and, for a second, I thought that I was walking around in the tropical jungle at Akaka Falls in Hawaii. What else? Many kinds of artificial flowers. Many types of photo albums. About 1,000 different kinds of yarn. Twenty kinds of rolling carts where each cart has three shelves, and where the carts come in a solid color (orange, beige, black, light green, or light gray). There are 30 kinds of clothes pegs (many sizes and colors), 500 kinds of ready-to-use picture frames, pre-stretched canvases for artists who enjoy painting with acrylics or with oil paint, many kinds of glue (Fabric Fusion, Plasti-Dip, Tacky Glue, Spray adhesive, Gorilla Glue), at least 1,000 different kinds of stickers (e.g., footballs, basketballs, birds, colored donuts and ice cream cones, Florida-theme stickers, Hawaii-theme stickers, Australia-theme stickers), T-shirts coming in 200 different colors and sizes, paints (acrylic paint, oil paint, enamel paint), toy animals (dinosaurs, dragons, giraffes, porpoises), and about 50 different kinds of beads. I had some awesome visits lately. I usually travel to other locations but not anymore. The new management and staff are incredible and very knowledgeable. I been coming to this location since the late 1990's but I stopped coming due to customer service problems and lack of inventory. The store was fully stocked with everything I needed for my projects. This Michaels has really gone downhill since it was renovated a few years back. It went from being my favorite store to my least favorite of any Michaels in the area which is pretty sad since it is the closest one to where I live and was such a joy to visit. The configuration of the aisles is extremely confusing and cramped and makes it very difficult to find anything unless you know the store inside and out. There is never staff on the floor to help you find anything or answer questions. Since renovating they got rid of a lot of their usual stock and now have cheaper items and much less selection. They never seem to restock what they do have and as an artist that is very frustrating. I frequently need x-acto knive refills and while they have an aisle for them, they are NEVER in stock. There is a hook for them and it is empty, indefinitely. I also need loose sheets of bristol vellum and they never, ever have them. Why is it all the other Michaels are fully stocked with these simple items but this store can't get it together. This review is solely based on customer service over two separate trips. The staff including the manager here cannot think outside the box. I will explain. Last week I visited the store to purchase two frames. I had a 40% off one item coupon from the website that anyone in the world can get (this is not one of those special one time use coupon code). My plan was to buy one frame with my Visa and get the discount then buy the second frame with cash to get the discount off the second frame. Staff denied my plan and explained they would get in trouble if they were audited. I explained the cash idea because that cannot be audited like a Visa card number. The clerk looked dumbfounded and asked for a supervisor. The supervisor denied my plan as well. I explained to them that I can go to a stranger and give them cash to buy it and it would be the same thing but they couldn't figure that out. Nonetheless, I walked up to some lady and she bought the frame with my standing next to her. Smh. Fast forward a week. I have a 50% off one regular price item coupon. I go into the store to buy a frame that was 24.99 with an additional 40% off off sale. I go up to the counter and tell them I want to use my coupon so I can get 50% off the 24.99 instead of the 40% current sale. I told them I gain an additional 10% doing it that way. The clerk looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language. She simply said I cannot combine sales. I tried to explain I was not combining anything but I couldn't get through with her. She asked another associate and she responded "he can't combine coupons" so.... I gave up. I can't believe the staff here... I'll still come because it's he closet arts and craft store around me but I don't expect staff to be able to assist me in any out of the ordinary way. read more

This review is for the custom framing department. I've ordered 6 custom frames from this Michael's and I would NEVER go anywhere else. I always call ahead of time to make sure that Beverly is there because she is my girl and she is absolutely the best at custom framing! She's been in the business for a long time and definitely knows her stuff. She's also very patient, as her and I have spent a couple of hours together brainstorming on frames before (no joke!). She always greets me by name and asks about my family whenever I see her. She's a joy to talk to in-store while frame shopping, and she even calls me when they have rediculously good framing deals. Now that's customer service! I've gotten some pretty standard frames (a straight black frame for a Johnny Cash print), and I've also done some crazy ones as well (a triple matted orange frame with green matte trim for a child's wooden puzzle that i got framed and looks awesome!) No matter how difficult or easy, my frames always come out looking just as good as I expected them to, if not better. I actually went into a different Michael's that was closer to where I was living at the time, and the difference in knowledge and professionalism between the two framing departments was apparent immediately! I walked right out and drove here. A couple of tips for frame shopping: -Bring the artwork/photos in. -Don't be afraid to pull frames off of the wall to put around your piece in order to find the perfect frame. -Don't be afraid to take your time looking at different frames and discussing options with the clerk. They're a great source of knowledge and are there to help you. -Choose a frame that will accent the piece and not draw attention away from it. -Choose a frame that fits the surroundings that it will be hanging in. -The pricier, museum glass really is worth it. The rest of the store is your standard arts and crafts store, but as I've pointed out, it's the framing department that really shines. And make sure that you ask for Beverly! read more
