Pros: Imagiknit's selection is vast and excellent quality. The store is neatly arranged by yarn weight and chances are you'll find something that fits your project at a variety of suitable price points. It's also big and has an excellent crafting space, including both couches and a table. Great attention to space design! Cons: there is something about their service that I have always found stiff and hard around the edges. Just not particularly warm, and I've had a few curt exchanges while purchasing items. The staff is polite, but that's about where it ends. For me, the warmth is a huge part of picking a go-to LYS. I know this line is really hard to walk in specialized stores with a variety of customers with different skill sets, but just a bit more interest? Curiosity? in engaging with your customers is something I really appreciate. As a personal preference I'm also not a fan of yarn shops that store needles behind the counter. I'm particular about my needles and love buying fixed length ones of various brands, so having the ability to browse them at leisure is a huge boon. Overall, will come back if I'm in the neighborhood but not my go-to. read more

My friend recommended this shop to me and I've already visited a handful of times each with a new project in mind. There is a great selection in each yarn category so I have yet to leave empty handed... I gravitate towards their Knitting for Olive, Malabrigo, and Cascade Yarns, but want to return for their Ito and Rowan. The nice part is they have yarn in a range of colors and prices so you'll be sure to find something that fits what you're looking for. The staff are very knowledgeable and can help you find a yarn that is perfect for your pattern. I also love that they have a rewards program so you can collect points. I took the knitting 101 class today and would highly recommend! Judy was our instructor and she was FANTASTIC. Super positive, very clear and supportive. Our group was filled with people with different experience levels (I had never knit before) and Judy was able to meet us all where we were at. This was my favorite yarn store- but not now. I mistakenly went to the wrong location for a class. When I asked where the class was, a person whom I believe is the owner very curtly advised me that there were no classes at the location. When I attempted to pull up my class reservation she repeated her comment over her shoulder as she walked away. While doing so she told another sales person who was trying to help me to do something else. This is not the first time I have been treated this way. I have been a loyal customer and have probably purchased hundreds of dollars worth of yarn at the store. I even brought several students from my knitting class to the SF location to show them the shop. I had my own business for a time- I would never have considered treating a customer like this. The yarn selection is great. Just avoid the owner if at all possible. I know I will. read more

They have a very fair return policy and a great customer loyalty program that you'd be crazy not to join. The ownership changed hands a little while ago and the community and warmth of the store has grown exponentially. Prices are fair and typical for San Francisco and they have a huge range of economy options to higher end options for any budget. I pop in here often just for something to do! read more

I loved this store because I can select yarn from many types of fabric contents and colors. However, has anyone paid attention the taxes we pay after purchasing??? I never saw so many different types of tax fee. So total price will be almost doubled with taxes. Second, they different policy when we buy and if I want to return they don't have a policy to return. What a gem! This delightful little yarn store is a yarn lovers paradise. The selection is amazing with two small rooms filled with yarn of different colors and composition. There were so many absolutely beautiful yarns I really had a hard time choosing what I was going to purchase. There was a class going on. It looked like it was for beginning knitting or crochet. I love her store although I'll admit I've only gone to the one down my street in Elmwood but from what I can see, several of the employees work seamlessly between both stores. I'm not a great knitter (yet) but they certainly are helping me get there. No matter how stupid my question, they are so happy to help. And their yarns are just beautiful. We meet on Sunday's from 11-1 pm and it's a group of about 20 beautiful people all together talking and knitting happily. What a community! What a great place to learn knitting basics, very warm and welcoming was my impression when I walked in. The staff is so friendly and personable. The walls are covered in many varieties of yarn and in so many colors. I was here for a team building event and it was such a positive and fun learning experience. There is a sitting area, comfy sofas in a carpeted area, so inviting as a classroom. We learned how to "cast" the yarn onto our needles and proceeded with mastering the garter stitch (the basic stitch). It was so fun and brought back memories of my childhood of my mom teaching me how to knit--it was like riding a bicycle. After our 2 hr. lesson, I am inspired to pick up knitting and perhaps can find a place closer to my home that is as inviting as ImagiKnit. This is a great place to learn and I highly recommend it!! read more

My mom used to be an avid knitter and has bought skeins and skeins of yarn form this and other stores in the Bay Area. I recently took up crocheting and like all my projects I jumped from beginner to intermediate probably way too soon. I went in not really knowing what kind of yarn to buy for my first giant project. Thankfully I found Kurt (spelling?) and he was so incredibly helpful with explaining what kind of yarn I was getting into and helping me find the colors. I felt like I was being really annoying because really I should just take a class and ask these questions but he let me blab on and on and was really patient. I'll keep coming back both for the customer service and the fun yarn. read more

Years ago I loved this yarn shop, would buy yarn for all my projects here. But ever since the new ownership I walk in and walk out empty handed. They just don't have what I'm looking for. Seems like the selection and stock of yarns went way down. I don't think I've bought much in the past 3 years. I did settle for a yarn substitution for a sweater and I wasn't super happy with it. Not sure what happened...I know they DO have some beautiful yarns. Just been having a hard time finding what I need. They stopped carrying the best stuff and stock is way down. read more

Judy is a gem! I did the introduction to crochet class today and she did such a great job of teaching by instruction, example and patience. I'm a lefty so she showed multiple examples by switching over to her left hand. Crochet was super hard for me but I never felt badly for asking a question or being slow to get the patterns. I really appreciated the way that Judy normalized that and kept using different story telling to get me to memorize the stitches. Highly recommend for first-timers! read more

I had visited ImagineKnit before and fell in love with its warm, creative atmosphere and tempting yarns - and to think that I wasn't even a knitter or crocheter at the time! It was just that the store reminded me so much of my mother who always had a knitting or crochet project in the works. Knowing how the memory of my mother's needles and yarns touch my heart, my daughter gave me an Imagineknit crochet class as a gift. 12/13/2022 I just visited this store at 3:06pm and I am the only one in there and I wasn't greeted, asked for help or even feel like an appreciated customer. I was going to spend about $100 since I am making all of my coworkers beanies. I've gone here before but today I did not feel welcome. I am also a person of color but I would rather spend my money elsewhere then somewhere where they don't even appreciate me coming in. Bad experience. Please do better and making your customers ALL feel welcome. The woman had glasses and grey hair so I hope if I ever do come back someone else will be there to give me a better experience. I usually never give bad reviews but I was bummed out because I drove across town to buy yarn and to just leave was a waste of time. read more

A majority of their products are bought from well known brands which price close to USD3.99-5.99 wholesale while they then and sell items for 5x that amount. I discovered that I really like knitting this past few weeks so I decided to buy some stuffs and materials here. And it was excellent!

I'm not a super experienced knitter, but ImagiKnit is my favorite yarn store! The first time I went in, I was looking to make a present for my cousin who is having a baby and was overwhelmed by how many different options there were. I was shown an adorable yarn called "Baby Blossom" that had a built-in pattern of stripes and flowers. It was perfect for my cousin's newborn! Plus, the people working at the store were super knowledgable and helpful. Since then, I can't help but stop in every time I am in the neighborhood. My friends and I have found yarn for scarves, weaving rainbow unicorns, hats and more. I was so bummed that I was not able to stop by before the lockdown, but was so excited to see that there is an option online for yarn delivery with a pretty low minimum spend for free & fast shipping. The only bummer is that I love going into the store, but I'm happy to be able to continue supporting this local business during this lockdown! read more
