A well stocked store with loads of sample knitting to inspire you! A huge selection of yarns from sock to bulky weight at various price points.

Malabrigo yarn and Addi Skacel needles ...

A new adventure requires stopping at a LYS! Here I am @theimagiknit in San Fransisco! What a great and well stocked shop! This is a little yarn haul (is there such a thing? ). The staff were super friendly and helpful! Yarn is Malabrigo Lace! There's no color tag on it but that's okay! I'll use this yarn with some mohair to make a Lovenote Sweater! I want to cast on so bad but the mohair is at home on Maui and the hubby likes some company during a vacay !

It's not just the sponsor of the craft shows, but also of the vintage shows and the night markets held on the regular at Fort Mason. Having now attended each of their offerings - some multiple times - I feel confident in saying that they do a consistently good job at hosting the events they produce. At the craft show and the night market one can expect a well-organized event featuring vendors with quality offerings and nice displays. The same could be said for the vintage market with one exception: with only two portable dressing rooms at each end of Fort Mason's Pavilion, they needed more, something which seems easily remedied. Get on their mailing list so you'll be alerted to upcoming craft markets and vintage markets and who knows what else. The events are free to attend and a great way to enjoy an hour or so of your afternoon.

But there was a nice variety of artists and vendors selling a range of products including clothing, ceramics, lamps, stained glass art, stickers, greeting cards, unique flavored chocolates, and baked goods like moon cakes. We picked up a few items that stood out -- a bunny tote from Patch Ya Later, a Bodega Bay tide chart from Tideland Prints (for my boater bf), and some salt-free spices from Goldi's. Admission to this event is free, but be prepared to spend money. There were about eight food/drink vendors on site, 4 food trucks and stands outside of the entrance and about 4-5 that I counted inside. Some menu items for sale included empanadas, indian bites, mayan food, pulled pork sliders, chicken tenders, hot dogs, cookies, coffee, beer, and more. There was also a farmer's market happening near the event until the early afternoon on Sunday, with several food tents as well. There was plenty of seating on the second level inside the giant hall, along with some outdoor seating near the water. Parking was a pain, but we got lucky and found free street parking just a couple blocks away, in the marina neighborhood.

One of the staff (an asian woman- didnt' get her name) was so nice to help me find the exact colors I needed and patiently explained the sales and discount pricing for the huge aisle of liquitex acrylic paints. Then when I got to the counter (albeit really overwhelmed by too many choices) Jayy was at the counter and smiled and was a calm beacon to my shopping anxiety and confusion - with only like 20? minutes left until closing time! She painstakingly helped me look at each of the colors my art teacher wanted me to get and helped me choose two paint sets that I could afford that met my criteria for both watercolor and for acrylics. Jayy sat there patiently scanning and calculating all the different permutations of paints and even gave me advice about what colors to get now vs maybe later when I save more money up! She even helped me maximize my discount and coupons. WOW. Jayy was so knowledgeable about the colors and types of paints I needed and this AMAZING experience was why I was SO GLAD I went iN PERSON to the store! thank you thank you Jayy for making my shopping experience so much less stressful!!!

The store was founded in 1968 and is the second oldest business in Japantown. Currently the grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the original co-founder, Nobuo Mihara, continue to run the store. [Parking]: There are two parking garages within a few blocks away from the store - The Main Garage (1610 Geary Boulevard) and The Fillmore Annex Garage (1650 Fillmore Street). Parking rate = $5 per hour from 12 PM to 6 PM and $3 per hour outside of those hours. I got lucky and was able to find metered parking spots near the intersection of Buchanan St and Sutter St (free on Sunday). [What to Expect]: The store has a really large selection of origami paper. In addition, it also carries 3D / 2D stickers, classic Japanese art prints, noshi envelopes, handcrafted pressed-flower cards, adult anime T-shirts, coloring / origami books, socks, stationery, fabrics for furoshiki, etc. There is also a sign stating "Beware of the Dog" with Moira (a 2-year old Irish Wolfhound) hanging out at the store. [Conclusion]: I am not sure if this shop is worth driving out of the way just to check it out unless you are a passionate origami enthusiast, but it is worth stopping by if you are already in San Francisco's Japantown. P.S. - Paper Tree used to have a sister store in Berkeley called Miki's Paper which focused on paper gallery and Japanese papers, but the shop closed after COVID.
