    Christmas ornament

What a lovely place with wonderful art and decoration and delightful owners and employees! I recently purchased two paintings that spoke to me and experienced kind and professional customer service from the owner himself. The selection is very wide, so there's really something for everyone and the prices are absolutely reasonable and again, at a range, so there are options for every budget. F. Dorian is also a fantastic place to get unique gifts for hard-to-shop-for friends and family. And the Christmas ornaments!? Look at this piano! Complete with a lid that opens and a pin with a hinge - it's ridiculously adorable and high quality. I will shop again!

    F. Dorian carry many unique, beautiful decorative items and jewelries. It's conveniently located near Davies Symphony hall, SF Opera & Ballet and SF Jazz. I love stopping by the store and looking for lovely items in the store whenever I'm in the neighborhood! Store managers are always friendly and helpful. During the holiday season, you'll find cutest Christmas ornaments there. I love collecting them and add new ones every Holiday season.

This grain-grinding stone is typical of the unduplicated, rustic elegance glowing from all of F. Dorian's offerings.

Like Valencia Street from 15th to 23rd streets, Hayes Street between Franklin and Laguna is an "only in San Francisco" retail gulch. The artisans represented in shops like F. Dorian (and Maker and Moss, next door) are either local residents or are consigned from great, known and authentic sources. If you want edgy urban art, or gorgeous, eclectic ceramics, textiles and glassware, hand-crafted with sharp, contemporary eyes and a one-off authenticity, then shop here. I bought my first piece from Dorian in 1987, and haven't stopped yet. The gorgeous glasswares from nouveau hipster Portland/Seattle studios or village-scale master foundries in Mexico and Italy, are especially worth a visit, as are the Christmas and Hanukkah ornaments.

A Japanese hand-hammered iron bowl, African wrought-iron rooster, Calif. etched-blue champagne glasses, all from F. Dorian.

I purchased my first serious "treasure" in life 34 years ago at F. Dorian--in the same venerable shop on the same tree-lined block of Hayes Valley. Authentic cultural artifacts, unique jewelry, artisanal ceramics and and etched glasswork are all hand-crafted, whether rustic or elegant. This place is representative of San Francisco's many small-retail gems along Hayes Street, Mid-Market, Lower Haight, the Valencia Corridor, the Dog-Patch district around Third Street and 21st, and historic 24th-Street--both in The Mission and in Noe Valley,

Specializing in ethnic art and antiquities, this store would be fantastic if only it were merchandised a little better. The range of glass and statuary is still very good, despite the lack of staging.

I attended the Pouring Bear event, and there was a wide variety of colors to choose from and clean setup. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive, and they even delivered the completed bears in beautiful cylindrical packaging for our group order! Would highly recommend. I struggled for three hours and accidentally created a big hole on the first try, and had to replace a handgun because it was weak. David, another instructor, happily replaced the whole canvas, so I had to start over by drawing the design through their portable Bluetooth projector. He warned me that if I ripped another canvas, there would be an extra cost. For the next two hours, I got a handle on the handgun, but still needed assistance from my friend since she had experience in punch needle, which is a manual, mini version of tufting without a handgun. I accidentally made a small hole by puncturing the same spot twice to fix the gap, so I asked Monica for advice. She suggested that I should make a small patch on the bottom side of the design so she can glue it later. However, David came to analyze the hole and happily fixed it for me by filling in the rest of the gaps. I didn't have to do extra work. Five hours later, all the crew members were helping us put each design together by patching it up and shaving. Since they were busy, I had to wait for my turn to use the vacuum and trimmer to shave off excess yarn on top of the design to give it a polished 3D look. I felt bad for that one girl who couldn't finish tufting her Hello Kitty since she arrived here 30 minutes before our appointment. Overall, it was a fun and humbling experience for under $200, based on canvas size. Very time-consuming, yet there's a promo for on a weekday suitable for couples: $168 for two small ones and $206 for two mediums. They even offer a group package suitable for parties of five. Great for any special occasions and corporate socials. Also kids over 12 years old can do it. Complimentary snacks are available for customers, but the Pop Mart figurines are available for purchase. Must reserve a spot on their website or IG page before they open on weekends.

We ended up having to wait around 20 minutes before a table freed up so I definitely suggest calling ahead to make a reservation! The owner of this business was incredibly nice. She took time to explain the glazes and how the process of painting our pieces worked. There is a flat fee of $15/person and you get unlimited time in the studio to paint your pieces. There was a wide range of glazes available for you to paint with. My only gripe was the condition the paintbrushes were in.. I was not able to find a brush for finer details and most of the paintbrushes were old with fraying brushes. The total price depends on the piece or pieces that you choose to paint. Our total ended up being $65 (you can get a 20% discount if you follow their social media or print a coupon from their website). Overall this was a great experience and I would love to visit again! I will update the photos with the finished pieces once I go pick them up!

I have Case for Making to thank for getting me back into exploring my creativity and artistic side. They are a small shop in the Ocean Beach neighborhood of San Francisco, but they have a great selection of handmade watercolor paints (kinda pricey but worth it for their beautiful colors) that can be shipped anywhere and a terrific selection of online and IRL watercoloring classes (recommend instructors Dave Muller and Anjelika Deogirikar Grossman). Around 1pm on a beautiful Saturday, we found parking in Judah and made our way into a small storefront with two doors: one for workshops and one for retail art supplies. I love that they offer workshops here, and I love any sort of community-centered art outreach in San Francisco. My partner is the bigger artist between the two of us and I'm glad I brought him, even though he didn't buy much, he was able to see the selection of amazing quality watercolors and the wide variety of pens, of which I ended up buying a handful because I am a stationary lover if I'm anything at all! The prices were about what one would expect for a small store in the sunset, and I was happy to pay them. Some of the prices were actually much better than I thought they'd be. I purchased a large-ish art clipboard for $18 and I know I'm gonna use the heck out of it! The store was fairly empty when we arrived but filled up quickly with Saturday shoppers, and the cashier was wonderful and kind, and I appreciated their calm demeanor I'll be back here! Really just a great little spot for quality art supplies: watercolor pallets, brushes, notebooks, mixed media notepads and paper, high quality colored pencils and artist pens, etc!
