Coming to La Bijouterie was a healing experience, to say the least. We came to Set for a new beginning after a traumatic incident regarding our original ring. I had no idea that I had a jeweler so close to my place! My friend is thinking about getting engaged and is in the exploratory phase of ring shopping. During these trying times, people still want to get married so jewelry stores are open. Make sure you make an appointment, they only take appointments and no walk ins. Masks are required and hand sanitizer is available. I went with her to La Bijouterie and she was educated in basic tenets of diamonds, the 4 Cs. We looked around a little more and she still couldn't make up her mind, she was overwhelmed! So she decided to do some more research on the internet. THE WORST ENGAGEMENT RING SHOPPING EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED. Please save some time and do not go to La Bijouterie. Set, the owner, is by far the most unwelcoming, condescending, and demeaning person I have ever met. Within 10 minutes of being in the shop with a proper appointment, I was so offended and uncomfortable that I had to leave. Set doesn't bother to greet you or show any interest in helping you find the right ring. Instead, he treats you like you're inconveniencing him by being there. His demeanor was so off-putting that I just left by thanking him for his time but telling him that I really don't feel welcomed there. To make matters worse, he calls my cell phone to say he was surprised to see me take off. He doesn't apologize or try to understand from my perspective. He goes on about how I am the one misunderstanding him. When I looked up reviews later, I discovered I wasn't alone. Countless others have experienced the same rude treatment from Set. Yet, he remains oblivious, making excuses by replying to them that he was "surprised" and "misunderstood" and refuses to acknowledge his behavior. This review should be no surprise to him because he knows what he did and he will probably comment on this too. Save yourself the frustration and go elsewhere for your ring. No girl or guy's ring fitting experience should be ruined like this and let alone no one should be treated like this. There are plenty of other jewelers in San Francisco who are kind and actually value their customers. La Bijouterie is not one of them. I came in and spoke with the male owner - my boyfriend and I came out of that conversation feeling absolutely offended. We called in to make an appointment. When we got there it was already evident that he wasn't excited to see us. His first question was, what are you looking for so we answered him with the specifics of what type of engagement ring we're interested in. A lot of his questions seemed like he was berating us such that he said "Well if you looked at other places, why are you still looking around?" What kind of question is that!? If I'm going to spend 20K on an engagement ring, I am for sure going to look at my options in SF. In addition, he showed me 1 diamond out of this whole entire conversation. He showed us photos and made us guess the specifics of the diamond to make his point that you can't tell the difference in color and clarity. Listen, I did not make an appointment to be tested on my knowledge of diamonds. This is ridiculous and straight up condescending. Please stop doing this as your customers will likely not know the answer. Find a better way to make your point come across as collaborative and informative. My advice going through this process - there are SO many diamond ring companies in the area that actually care about customer experience. I'm not sure why this person was so unengaged and unhelpful. My guess is that he took a look at me and my boyfriend and decided this was not a sale for him within a few minutes of us being there; which if that's the case, is definitely discriminatory. They were extremely patient and understanding during the design process and allowed me to go back and forth providing feedback and suggestions every step of the way until it was perfect. It was the smallest issue and I worried about being too nitpicky, but Set was SO understanding and said "No big deal, people get prongs checked all the time!"
