I came to Set with a fairly specific vision from my now wife, and Set executed it marvelously. She still gets compliments on it all the time, and I can tell it was exactly what she wanted. Set made the processing of planning the ring easy, and never tried to upsell me. He gave some great advice on how to best achieve the look we were aiming for, while showcasing the amazing center stone and prioritizing the feel of sturdiness in the setting for the stone. THE WORST ENGAGEMENT RING SHOPPING EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED. Please save some time and do not go to La Bijouterie. Set, the owner, is by far the most unwelcoming, condescending, and demeaning person I have ever met. Within 10 minutes of being in the shop with a proper appointment, I was so offended and uncomfortable that I had to leave. Set doesn't bother to greet you or show any interest in helping you find the right ring. Instead, he treats you like you're inconveniencing him by being there. His demeanor was so off-putting that I just left by thanking him for his time but telling him that I really don't feel welcomed there. To make matters worse, he calls my cell phone to say he was surprised to see me take off. He doesn't apologize or try to understand from my perspective. He goes on about how I am the one misunderstanding him. When I looked up reviews later, I discovered I wasn't alone. Countless others have experienced the same rude treatment from Set. Yet, he remains oblivious, making excuses by replying to them that he was "surprised" and "misunderstood" and refuses to acknowledge his behavior. This review should be no surprise to him because he knows what he did and he will probably comment on this too. Save yourself the frustration and go elsewhere for your ring. No girl or guy's ring fitting experience should be ruined like this and let alone no one should be treated like this. There are plenty of other jewelers in San Francisco who are kind and actually value their customers. La Bijouterie is not one of them. I came in and spoke with the male owner - my boyfriend and I came out of that conversation feeling absolutely offended. We called in to make an appointment. His first question was, what are you looking for so we answered him with the specifics of what type of engagement ring we're interested in. A lot of his questions seemed like he was berating us such that he said "Well if you looked at other places, why are you still looking around?" What kind of question is that!? If I'm going to spend 20K on an engagement ring, I am for sure going to look at my options in SF. In addition, he showed me 1 diamond out of this whole entire conversation. He showed us photos and made us guess the specifics of the diamond to make his point that you can't tell the difference in color and clarity. Listen, I did not make an appointment to be tested on my knowledge of diamonds. This is ridiculous and straight up condescending. Please stop doing this as your customers will likely not know the answer. Find a better way to make your point come across as collaborative and informative. My advice going through this process - there are SO many diamond ring companies in the area that actually care about customer experience. I'm not sure why this person was so unengaged and unhelpful. My guess is that he took a look at me and my boyfriend and decided this was not a sale for him within a few minutes of us being there; which if that's the case, is definitely discriminatory. I also want to commend Set for his after care services. He absolutely stands by the quality of his rings and it's incredibly hassle free to get something fixed because he uses a local workshop. Not to mention FAST and at no additional cost! Care for a product through its entire life is hard to find in companies nowadays, even luxury retailers. I noticed a prong was slightly loose from me catching it on a jacket, barely noticeable to the bare eye, and asked if he could repair it for me for peace of mind. My fiance and I freaked out, especially since our engagement party was in two weeks and of course we wanted the ring to be fixed by then. He immediately emailed Set who started off friendly enough and said we could come in and he would take a look, that it was "no problem these things happen". The problem was, we had moved to San Diego. And it WAS a problem for us, because why is the prong falling off after 3 months when I was doing nothing but wearing it (and not even to sleep or shower). So we told him we had moved and asked if we could ship it overnight to him and get reimbursed, and we were so surprised by his response. "You broke the ring and you expect me to pay to ship it".... like we broke it on purpose? Like I had been banging it against a cliff? Again, it had been THREE months!! That is NOTHING, not even normal wear and tear. OF COURSE he should offer to fix it and pay for it because it's his or his manufacturer's fault that it fell off!! Since he wasn't going to pay for shipping, we dcided to just get it fixed locally and that was the end of that. Until.... 6 months after that, I was walking my dog and noticed that the BOTTOM had cracked. I was FURIOUS. Are you kidding me?? My ring is breaking for the second time and it hasn't even been a year??? I'm assuming that it's where I got it resized and the metal was weak, but still... this shouldn't be happening. And again, just normal day to day activities of walking my dog, not anything crazy. This time, we didn't even bother reaching out because of how Set had reacted last time. My fiance is so furious he spent so much money on a ring that has now broken twice, and we will now be worried about breaking from the rest of my life. We are both so disappointed because if we didn't have these two experiences, we would definitely have recommended Set and La Bijouterie to everyone. There is absolutely no way it's normal for an engagement ring to break twice, I've never heard of that before!
