Cottage Industry appeared in an SFGate article of their 40 favorite stores in San Francisco. It's not a large place, but stuffed with an eclectic, yet clearly deliberate selection of art, antiques, and other retail items that span the two. Honestly, the best strategy here is to look at the pictures posted on Yelp, to get the best idea. The most anachronistic items were the African antiques, including a chair (pictured), a "Cameroon throne" for a cool quarter million. In the midst of the African items was a Buddhist statue, presumably because it was a similar color. I didn't ask (should have) but I assume the provenence for all the items is airtight. All in all, a fascinating place. read more

What a hidden gem! This store is truly breathtaking with its beautiful selection of antique, vintage, and modern items. I ended up buying a sterling silver ring. It's stamped 925, verified, and so incredibly shiny. I absolutely love it and will definitely be back! read more

One of absolute favorite local shops on Fillmore Street. I discovered during a few Fillmore Jazz festivals ago and always stop by annually. Love the eclectic items in the gallery. Reminds me of Murano, Italy. Oh yes, this shop brings back fantastic memories of October 2010. Service is on point. Staff is close by to answer any questions. read more

Great customer service, Quality pieces that are made in Italy and a great deal of silver Jewelry too both new and antique. I prefer darker silver and my wife like brighter platinum colored jewelry. we were both treated with great care. the staff had a great amount of knowledge of what they had in store. read more

The keychains are cute and I'm no stranger to being delicate with my keychain-- I have a ton of delicate items on it-- that's why not only was I absolutely shocked when the cashier rang my total up as $55 for this cheaply made chain that I could have made at Hobby Lobby for $10, but I found myself incredibly frustrated when my keychain broke off not even a week later. I wish I had listened to my intuition and asked her to put it back once she told me that the plastic clip alone was $18 . Customer service was also not great-- my friend and I had laid out our charms in the exact order that we wanted them put on our keychains and the woman helping us just disregarded it and put it them on in whatever order she wanted to. Unfortunately this is the best photo I have of it-- taken on the day I got it-- it broke off somewhere in sf 4 days later. Also, for $55, I'd expect to be able to have a decent keychain. I was told by the sales rep on my way out not to even let it get wet... are you serious? Complete waste of money and they don't do refunds. read more

I had such a lovely experience at this shop today! It's absolutely stunning, and what really made it special was the service. Maurizio took care of me and my friends, and he was amazing from start to finish. He was so patient, friendly, and genuinely enthusiastic about what he does. He walked us through how to make charm bracelets and made the whole experience memorable. You can tell he really cares about helping people create something meaningful. We left not only with beautiful bracelets but also with such a great memory. Thank you, Maurizio, for making our visit so special--we'll definitely be back! read more

Very fascinating store. I live in the neighborhood and it's always fun to explore. Most importantly, the customer service is fantastic. My boyfriend had an excellent experience shopping for me (he's not much of a yelper). Maurizio was super attentive and knowledgeable, and very friendly. Amazing silver collection. I was banned from this store over a misunderstanding over the price of some jewelry. The son chased me down the street to tell me this.

This is an amazing find. I was walking along Fillmore street and saw a vibrant widow display. I looked through the window and saw so many unusual and colorful items. There was a necklace I was interested in so I went inside. The store is amazingly picturesque that I was in awe. The chandeliers were plentiful and seems to be one of a kind. As I walked through the store, I saw items from Italy, Africa, local artists, and other exotic places. The necklace I saw in the window was custom made. The sell beads and will teach you how to make/design jewelry. The owner (originally from Venice, Italy) and daughter welcome me with open arms and made me comfortable even though I did not purchase anything. They were friendly, courteous and patient. If you are in that part of the City, it's worth visiting. read more

We came an hour before closing and unfortunately the owner was closing down shop for a private event! However the owner is so kind :) He allowed me and my boyfriend to come in and choose a pair of charms for free and gifted us cute gems even though he was on a time crunch! I honestly understand how expensive this shop can be, but it's totally worth the visit and I will definitely be back and ready to open my wallet ‍. Thank you so much for your kindness!!!!! read more

I absolutely LOVED my experience here. Went here with my two sister in laws and we wanted to make bracelets/necklaces. Had a really fun time picking out the charms and then figuring out the order of what to put them in. Sara was so helpful and so kind. We got a little stressed out the end wanting it to be perfect and she was so understanding. read more

My friend posted a cute charm bracelet she made here so I also wanted to check it out and I was shocked because the prices were way higher than I thought they were going to be. We ended up getting 8 charms, for $40 and didn't even buy any of the bracelet chain or the circles that would connect the charm to the bracelet. The bracelet chains ranged from $40-$80 for one based on the size of the rings as well as the metal. There was such variety with the charms, but spread across multiple stations so I thought that there would be more at every different station. Very cute though, but just be ready to open your wallet! read more

Truly an amazing experience! Best spot for handmade gifts from Italy and around the world! Everyone at the shop is very friendly and helpful. I went in to create my own charm bracelet and they have lots of selections for the charm bracelet/necklaces. The brackets are very good quality! Lots of selections for the actual necklaces/bracelets themselves. The young lady at the front made sure the bracelet fit my wrist and ensured everything was to my liking. Definitely will be coming back in the future! You can tell they value each of their customers, showing great care to everyone! read more

I love this store. They have awesome art and cool charm bracelets. Service is great. Super fun!

The owner of this shop is very knowledgeable and gracious. He helped me make a perfect slip knot necklace for my pendant and also suggested great gift options. The amount of experience he was able to pack into our interaction was surprising and impressive and the inventory of the place is extremely unique as is the lovely staff and the owner. I left feeling inspired and wanting to return. I love this novel and beautiful gem located on Fillmore street with fair prices and superior service. Thank you Cottage Industry! read more

I'm normally not one to leave a review but I got incredibly ripped off here:( I would not recommend, I was charged 150 to polish a necklace that was still tarnished after polishing, I went home and polished the rest with a polishing cloth in a matter of seconds, I felt that should have been included in the service. Please do not be fooled the way I was, incredibly over priced. read more

I came in late Saturday night to make a charm bracelet. Mauricio was so kind and allowed me to stay past close to finish up! It was really fun sorting through the charms and building my own bracelet. It is on the more expensive side ($104 for bracelet with sterling silver clasp and 7 or so charms). However, the experience is worth it. read more

I really like to look around furniture store, accessories , gift shop or spiritual store. And cottage industry is one of my future goal. If I am rich and have time to travel around the world I would like to have a store like this to sell my collections or just for showing off. The shop is full of fun and delicates stuffs so if you are carrying a backpack you better leave it at the counter because you don't want to break anything. I wasn't planning to buy home deco or accessories. So me and my friend was just walking around and chill. But the clerk Hillary was very friendly. We stayed after the shop business hour but he wasn't trying to rush us. He introduced items background to us and was being very patient and helpful. My favorite part of their collections are chandeliers. My boyfriend's favorite is Indian god statues. Unlike there are lots of fake spiritual store on Haight couldn't recognize Shiva and even argued with us Shiva suppose to be blue and the statue was silver so it's not Shiva (duh) They can tell who is Shiva and they have more gods other than just Shiva as well. Some items even have a background story tag attached on them. This place is like a small museum and you must check it out ! read more

Cottage industry is the place to go for unique, high quality artisan goods ranging from hand blown murano glasses to world-class, museum quality artifacts from across the globe. When I walked in, I was greeted by a friendly young sales associate who help me purchase almost all of my Christmas gifts in one single go. Instead of buying my family the mass produced garbage we all usually give and receive during the holidays, I went with impeccably handmade gifts from the store. The sales associate helped me pick out charms and a charm bracelet for my niece, who had mentioned this type of bracelet going viral in a TikTok video she saw. The charms were high quality enamel, and it was a fun process to put the thing together, I also got hand painted ceramic mugs and a beautiful chandelier made of Venetian glass for my new apartment and a vintage leather jacket for my difficult to buy for brother. It's rare in today's shopping world that you can say weeks after your visit to a store that you did not make a single purchase you regret, or have any qualms about the business you chose to support. This is the family own shopwho supports family owned Italian businesses and I couldn't be happier to have chosen my Christmas gifts here. read more

Never there, don't call back, incompetent. This has happened frequently. They run this the way a5-year old would. Closed often, with no explanation and never change phone message to reflect that. Came with my best friend to make charm necklaces and we had the best time!! I think what we loved most about this store was Gloria, the girl who was working that day! Omg she's an angel, so kind. We actually missed her when we left! lol All the charms were so cute and the store was so unique; we loved looking around at everything it had to offer because all the items there were absolutely insane (in the best way possible). Our necklaces came out SOOOO gooood!!! I'm bringing all my friends back no doubt. P.S. Gloria if you see this we thought you were the best and want to be your friends!!! (: read more

I never leave bad reviews but i am frustrated. I saw this place on tiktok and thought it was super cute so i decided to go and make a bracelet. The pricing was a little misleading and i didn't realize it was going to be $80 until i had already spent over an hour finding the charms and putting it together (having them put it together for you was an extra $40). I wouldn't be upset about the price, but it is such bad quality jewelry.. 1st it basically started to tarnish after 1 wear AND i coated it in clear nail polish to try to prolong the gold plating. 2nd the little lever that opens the clasp to put the bracelet on broke off after a week. 3rd the charms started falling off which I admit could be from how put them on, but 4th when i tried to reattach the charm the chain itself broke!! The only reason this place gets 2 stars instead of 1 is because the workers were very sweet and helpful :/ read more

I had to file a small claims court case against cottage industry. Because two years ago he sold me a crooked and broken chandelier and would not let me return it, or I just wanted it fixed. And he refused. So I Then presented my case to my Visa card. And they found him guilty and refunded me my money. I dropped the small claims court case because my visa reimbursed me. Now after a year he has filed a small claims court against me because I have not returned his chandelier. Discriminating against me. And I am under no obligation to return the chandelier. Never shop there. He has no customer service no courteousness no nothing. He should not be selling anything. read more
