Such a wonderful studio! Came across the studio after having breakfast in the area because I've started needle felting. Found parking conveniently right in front in the street since it was a quiet day out. I was looking for wool roving which she didn't have, however, she was so kind to explain the difference between the types of material and she showed me the correct type of yarn she did have that I'd be able to pull apart with my carding brushes! She had a lot of equipment to use for yarn crafts and it was great to see the variety of product inside. Apparently she holds craft nights and such too which I'm planning on looking into. Prices here were sooo much better than all the places I've found online which is also have to pay extra for shipping. She also even rolled the yarn into a ball for me before we left. Hopefully they'll have wool roving here soon, but I'm thankful for the yarn we were able to purchase for my current projects :) The best part -- her dog Jasper kept us company throughout our whole experience there and he is the absolute cutest cuddle bug! Cute yarn shop super accessible by public transit! They have a lovely curated selection of yarns of different weights, including locally dyed yarn. Some of the yarn is expensive (e.g. ~$30 for a skein) but there was variety in the prices and I found some nice yarns within my budget. You can request more of a specific color/brand and the shop owner can order it for you and let you know when it's in stock. Most of the yarn is sold in hanks that need to be wound into cakes before you use it. The shop has two sets of yarn swifts and yarn ball winders to wind your purchased yarn, and the owner can do it for you if you don't know how to use them. The shop also sells knitting and crochet tools (I was happy with the selection in crochet hook sizes, as there were smaller sizes that I didn't see at Michael's). I'm glad this shop exists in downtown Hayward and will definitely be back. read more

I wasn't aware Hayward had this craft studio until the 2024 Bay Area Yarn Crawl and since then I come here for when I need knitting needles or yarn. This isn't just a yarn store but a craft studio so you can find all sorts of supplies if you sew, weave, or spin fiber. Erin, the owner, is really sweet and always available for any questions you have. For anyone interested in learning to sew I always point them to this shop as Erin teaches an introduction to the sewing machine class that gives beginners the opportunity to also stitch fabrics and she gives a lot of good starter information. Also, I highly recommend being on the lookout online for other class offerings from other well-known crafters and Erin! read more

This has been my home craft store for several years now. The community around this store is great with multiple SnB meet ups throughout the month and beginner classes for different fiber arts. I've taken two classes here (spinning and continental knitting) and both of them were great! Yarn selection is good too with different weights and fiber content. Visited this shop today with a good friend who is a spinner and knitter. It is a beautiful shop, a little off the beaten path on C St. just half a block up from the library. They have several weekly events, including a Thursday afternoon senior crafting get together. It was a lively group who were having a great time working on different projects. Check their website for various activities. The owner is a lovely person named Erin and she has a great dog super friendly named Jasper. This shop is in oasis in the East Bay for crafters, please spread the word to your friends who are knitters weavers and spinners. South Alameda County has plenty of crafty folks and yet we are in a knitting / yarn desert. Thank goodness for Aranea Craft Studio. The folks here are very nice. They make sure to answer any question you have but also give you a wide berth of personal space. I love that. I already took a Beginning Rigid Heddle Weaving Workshop with Erin and am now signed up for a Cocoknits Method Sweater Workshop with Leslie. I've been knitting on and off (mostly off) for 20+ years but I've never been ballsy enough to try a sweater. But I've always wanted to. The fact that they offer it at Aranea (and that I've already taken a workshop) made me decide to finally take the leap. I'm no expert on knitting supplies but they sell high-quality yarn and knitting accoutrement at reasonable prices. I have most of my supplies just because I've been knitting for so long (on and off) but I've purchased a few things needed and certainly purchased yarn for the workshops I'm enrolled in and it's all so pretty and soft. I haven't taken advantage of their Saturday Open Knit but anticipate I will once I start the sweater workshop series. read more

I went in recently and there was a yarn class happening. As soon as I opened the door everyone stopped and just turned to look at me. It made me feel uncomfortable like I wasn't welcomed. No one said anything to me for several minutes and it didn't feel welcoming. The yarn selection was very small and nothing like the image. They only seemed to knit there so I didn't feel comfortable asking questions.. they only seemed to have super expensive hanks of yarn and no easy pricing. Just not a place for me. I was in Hayward, and happened to be wearing a dress I have wanted to make a cardigan for, so I stopped in on this lovely yarn store . I am so glad I did. Erin has a nice selection of high quality yarns and supplies. Yarn is not cheap and her pricing is very reasonable for a small shop. I found the perfect yarn for my project. She also had weaving, spinning, and Sashiko supplies. Also a small selection of fabric and some really great books and magazines. It feels like her store is becoming a hub for the maker/crafter/ fiber artists/slow fashion communities. I hope everyone will go out and support her. Spaces like hers are so important. I was really happy to get to meet Erin the owner personally. The upcoming Classes were mostly sold out (which is wonderful!) There are a lot of cool things coming up. There is a comfortable space for sitting and working, and I wanted to stay longer than I was able. I liked getting to see and learn about what Erin herself was working on. The best thing about Erin's store is the complete lack of pretense and snobbery. I get the feeling there are no dumb questions. Attended the Weaving/Loom class taught by Erin yesterday! I recently moved to Hayward and have been trying to find a craft for me. The loom class was lovely and each one of us was given the patience and time needed to learn the craft. I have bought yarn here before and it is always beautiful. The store offers to "cake" your yarn for you after purchase, and has a crafting hang out kind of space on Saturdays. Very welcoming to a young crafter! Worth checking out! read more

I visited this sweet shop last month not too long after it's opening. I received a warm welcome from the owner and the group that was knitting/crafting at the big table. The shop was still in the process of being set up, but there was a really nice selection of yarn already on display on the wall and some cool accessories/notions available.
