So much in here, fabric and tools wise. It's located on a street with lots of parking right outside the business. I needed to purchase lots of fabric for our school theater production. The knowledge i possess in what type of fabric I needed for certain things is ZILCH and the store owner was SO patient and knowledgeable. Good pricing for the yard: $5 a yard and I needed 8 yards of chiffon. They also have lots of Polynesian designs, great for dresses and puletasis. This is a small shop in an industrial part of Oakland, and it doesn't have a HUGE selection like some of the big fabric retailers, but the owner is helpful and knowledgeable, and the prices are excellent. I was looking for some upholstery fabric, and even though most of the inventory is for apparel fabrics, she helped me find something that would work for the project I'm doing and estimate the amount of fabric I'd need. I have been sewing masks the past couple of months and wanted some fabric that was cute, soft, and reasonably priced. Simply Fabric simply gets the job done. A wide array of selections to cater to your every need and taste. I was in need of some linens for a photoshoot and I found what I needed. I was given much needed assistance and could not be any happier with my experience. Parking could be a bit of an issue but right out front is a 10ish minute green zone. I was in and out relatively quickly. The minimum purchase for fabrics is half yard. I spent about $4 on 2 half yard fabrics. Not sure how the prices compare to Joanne's Fabrics but I found the prices to be cheap. Not to mention it's always great to support your local businesses. I looooove this place! (But l just admit, l AM a fabric aholic.) The employees are sweet, friendly laid back and not in your face folks. The environment is peaceful. Customers aren't on overload where one must have to wait in line prior to make a purchase. There's a nice variety of colors and textures of natural and synthetics fabrics. But best of all, reasonably priced. I have an industrial power and regular home machines. If l need bobbins casings, oil or other machine supplies, Simply Fabrics accommodate's my that for both my industrial or regular machines. I'll travel up to 17 miles to make a single purchase. Simply Fabric does not disappoint me. The only serious problem l DO have with Simply Fabric is going in the store for specific items but l end up buying way more than l need since their array of choices are HARD to walk away from. I recommend you give Simply Fabric a visit, however l WARN you to only take the amount of money you want to spend, possibly wear blinders and leave your extra cash and credit cards at home or you may end up with sewing projects intentions never realized. read more

We asked for a specific fabric she won't even look at as when we asked her. It's my first time going but I'll never ever go there. I went here based on Yelp reviews to find a particular shade of green satin to make the pocket squares for our bridal party in August. It is reminiscent of a teensy, crowded Asian grocery, but with fabric instead of food. I went around the whole store a number of times, even after I found my fabric. I tend to feel weird in places I am unfamiliar with, especially with the language barrier. That's my problem, I own it. Luckily, while the owner(?) was helping another customer, who must have been making drapes or something based on the huge amount of one fabric they bought, the owner's young daughter or granddaughter was there, and she started to talk to me. She was so cute and sweet, I wanted to offer to babysit. After that, I was fine. I got what I wanted, and even the adults were sweet to me. Haha. Yes, what everyone said about great selection of hard to find fabrics and great prices. Be aware it is a small shop, so it could be hit or miss on finding that particular one treasure. But...that's true in the big shops, too! That's how I ended up here in the first place. Now I'll be going back to fulfill my Halloween conception!!! read more

This store has the widest selection of fabric I have seen any where in the east bay...I went there looking for some fabric to recover some dinning room chairs and had trouble deciding which one to choose.The lady who works there was really friendly and helpful.Oh and they open at 10 am on a Sunday morning ! Nice selection of a lot of stuff you won't find elsewhere (crepe back satin $4/yd!, faux fur, home dec). I was especially surprised to see 60" cotton fabrics. A lot of inexpensive zippers & bag of buttons for $1. Notions, stretch lace, sari trim, sari lace. Great selection if you can't find what you want at the bigger stores. This place is terrible. They're cheats and rude, she told me I can't exchange something for another color and she said "you're rich you're rich you drive nice car" because I drive a Benz. The outdoor cushion covers used a waterproof canvas in solid colors. Sewn to perfection at an unbeatable price for fabric and sewing. I checked others for waterproof canvas and Simply Fabric had the best prices for solid colors. The store is off Int'l but not a problem finding/parking/getting to.
