I have been a tap plastics customer since the 1970s and have bought many things from the El Cerrito store over the years - nothing major, just residential customer kinds of things. I have always had great experiences with their kind and helpful staff. Until today. I needed to pick up something and noticed that they had a San Leandro location, which is close to my job site. So I thought I would stop by to make my purchase. The 50 something Asian man at the counter was just unhelpful and rude from the beginning. I told him what I wanted and asked to confirm the thickness of the material I was thinking of buying. He picked up a sample and threw it down on the counter in front of me. I was a bit taken back, but didn't wanna read anything into it. But then when he tallied my order, he quoted me a price that was three times higher than the quote I had gotten from their website. When I mentioned this, he became more terse. I pulled up the website on my phone to show him the price that I had seen - then noted that I had not seen the price for some of the options that I wanted, but THAT price was still less than double the price he had given me. While he did admit that there was a difference, matched the Web price and then reduced the price by an additional $1.50, he remained as terse and unfriendly as before. Didn't change his tone or apologize for the misunderstanding. And after I received my item, I thanked him and wished him a nice day, he said nothing and just turned around and walked away. I left with a bad taste in my mouth. Hands-down, the worst experience I've ever had at a tap plastics. I won't be returning to that location and encourage anyone who's thinking of doing business with them to check the pricing on their website before they walk into the store. read more

My most local Tap Plastics (Pleasanton) closed, so I had to venture further from home. I chose to use the Tap Plastics store on Alvarado Boulevard, San Leandro. Everyone I dealt with was friendly, helpful, and skilled at their job! The piece I designed was created perfectly. An extra addition to the order was done with a phone call and was ready to pick up with my original order. The price was happily reasonable. I love this place! Not only do they have really cool things to look at in the store itself but they are so helpful when needing personalized items as well. I had a china hutch with a cracked curved glass front door and after many calls to glass companies that were either on the other side of the country and would have to ship it to me and was very expensive or companies that just did not return my calls, I finally contacted Tap Plastics for a much more affordable option. I took the door in (wooden frame only at this point) and Cheri and Russ were so attentive and helpful and friendly. Russ tested the size with small pieces until he got the exact size needed. He definitely went above and beyond for me. The piece fit perfectly, and you can't even tell that it is not glass! I'm always amazed at all the plastic options at TAP, but even more amazed at the tools and expertise they have to turn that plastic into just what you need. In my case, manager Russ went above and beyond to create optical plastic blue-water filters that I'll use shooting wide angle underwater footage for underwater video projects. Some of the filters he made are going to two underwater filmmakers who shoot IMAX movies and PBS specials, so the next time you see some great underwater colors on TV or in the theater, you might thank Russ and TAP. read more

The pieces were perfectly cut and polished and looked like clear ice. Came in on a Monday to ask a million questions. Indi was super patient and thorough. Workers are all extremely nice, helpful and knowledgable. This is a great place to come to for all your plastic and design needs. They have a great bin of excess cuts of acrylic that are cheaper than anywhere else. Cuts are usually square or rectangular and they range from $1 - $10 depending on size and type of acrylic. I found some great pieces there to use as wedding signs. They are do acrylic letter and numbers, signs and everything in between. Would highly recommend. read more

I had a window break at one of my properties and I was frantic to try and get something in place for the night so the home was secure until we could get the glass replaced. I used to go to TAP Plastics years ago when my mom was planning a craft or school project, but haven't been there since. Today, we were greeted right away and told that someone would be available to help us soon. We browsed around the store, which looked very similar to how it used to--clean, organized displays and work areas, and it brought back a lot of memories for me. A few minutes later, David came over to ask if we needed help, which was really nice as we thought we'd have to go back in line and wait. Since our project had specific dimensions, he said they could custom cut the plexiglass at whichever width we needed. He rang us up, we sat at the counter looking at their archive of articles on TAP Plastics, and then another staff member came out 5 minutes later with the plexiglass.
