No words, just vibes. My fave small business in CV! It's a store that specializes in unique, fun merchandise, house decor, plants and vintage goods. They also highlight a lot of small businesses too like artists whose prints are sold in the store. The owners are so kind and helpful, the selection of items always changes but everything is so curated with unique, fun, quirky and whimsy. Some people might think the items are pricey but the store is incredibly curated with things you won't normally find in store, in person. These are things you usually would have to scour for online and hope it looks good in person when you get it. I love that you can see all this cool stuff in this store. They also have some really cool vintage things like mcdonalds happy meal toys!! I bought one and it's sitting on my mantle right now lol. They also stock BAGGU!! Beyond the Leaf is truly a gem in the heart of Castro Valley! The building is gorgeous with high ceilings and lots of natural sunlight. You'll be greeted by someone genuinely friendly, happy and helpful. I love the unique finds that include plants and planters, Baggu, Miffy, Snoopy, vintage items, home goods, stationary, blind boxes, candles, and more! Great local shop for plants, home decor or toys. I was able to purchase a few items for Christmas along with a cool Houseplant incense kit. I was surprised at some brands they carry, like Kidrobot & Miffy. They are also pretty active on Instagram so I'd give them a follow to stay up-to-date on what's happening at the store. The workers are also very nice and helpful and help explained what the Houseplant kit was. read more

This shop is such a gem and truly the perfect addition to Castro Valley! The moment you walk in, it just feels so nostalgic and cozy -- like a little treasure trove. I've actually been supporting the owners even before they opened the shop by buying their amazing handmade candles, but now that they have a full store... I'm obsessed! I love all the fun trinkets they carry, but what really has my heart is their plant selection. I honestly have to hold myself back every time I visit because I want to take home every single plant. The owners are super knowledgeable, and you can tell they pour so much love and care into everything they do. So far, I've brought home five plants and two bags of soil (and trust me, I'm just getting started!). I had such a fun chat with Aaron -- he showed me a few new plants I have to come back for, like the String of Turtles and the Manjula. Can't wait! Prices are reasonable, I will never harp on prices when it comes to a small business. The service, attentiveness, quality and to heart and soul that you can see going into the business exceeds the monetary value of each item. I hope to see the store around for a long time. And definitely don't leave without grabbing one of their candles -- they're handmade and have basically become a must-have in my home. I absolutely love Beyond the Leaf! This store is such a gem The plants are beautiful, healthy, and very reasonably priced compared to other plant shops. You can tell they really care about quality. What makes this place extra special is that it's not just plants -- they also have fun toys and adorable glow-your-own plant kits, which are perfect for kids (or adults who are kids at heart ). The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. They're always happy to answer questions and give great advice on plant care, whether you're a beginner or a plant lover with experience. The only place I've found in the Bay Area so far that has carnivorous plants that you can see and buy in person. Ever since the closure of California Carnivores and Predatory Plants, they're hard to find. They have Venus fly traps, Nepenthes pitcher plants, sundews, and butterworts (Pinguicula). The owners are very knowledgeable about their plants, unlike other plant stores in the area, who know almost nothing. Beautiful glass building perfect for this store. It also has a lot of designer sculptures and artifacts on sale. Concrete cars and cushions. Really cool place and you have to go see it in person to grok it read more

"Beyond the Leaf" is true to their store name. Yes- they have indoor plants but there is beyond that. Across my multiple visits since they opened, I feel obligated to describe it as a lifestyle/habitat store mixed with gift/ tchotchke store. Compared to when they first opened, they've shifted more focus to the latter from plants. There is a lot more non-plant lifestyle items now. The indoor plant selection is good with harder to find plants available but limited to smaller sizes, largest being in a 4" pot. Their forte is lifestyle items. I have found they always excel with curation of their inventory of lifestyle items. They are always on point with what is currently trending/ "in". Their lifestyle inventory as of time of review revolves around artsy and modern- a lot of the items they carry would be commonplace in a modern art museum's gift store. I personally never fail to find items that interest me and tempt my wallet. On multiple occasions, they were the purveyors of unique gifts that I get for people with everything. Customer service is great, I have always found staff to be very helpful and happy to answer questions. Deducting a star due to high pricing and difficulty parking in rear. If you are visiting by car, I advise against parking in spots closest to Phils Coffee and or visiting during the lunch rush! read more

I love this store. I happened in on 6/14/25 during the Castro Valley Car Show.and noticed they sold PlayForever cars (closest other place is Sausalito). Told myself that I'd be back. Came back the following day and made a beeline for the PlayForever cars. I bought the black Ken Miles car. Great prices. Welcoming and friendly service.
