I can't believe I have been going to =Giant Hardware Chain Store= for my seedlings every year, when I could have been going to Evergreen Nursery! Easy to park, and a cute little outside display with a ton of vegetable and herb seedlings, as well as anything else for your gardening needs. A pretty good nursery with beautiful plants, bushes & trees indeed! Ive passed this place on Bart for many years and always said I'd stop by and take a look. Many years later and I've been several times; this is my goto green space now. There aren't as many plant nurseries around as one might think and I'm glad I found one with helpful staff and healthy products that are well taken care of. Once you step out of the car, you'll see an amazing outdoor garden that's beautiful and well maintained. Many customers and bumblebees enjoy browsing their garden because it's welcoming and organized. They have a wide variety of plants, garden accessories and tools. The staff are willing to help customers get their questions answered and select the right plants to bring home. I visited on multiple occasions to seek help from the plant experts, on how to save a phalaenopsis (moth orchid). TJ listened patiently to my situation and gave knowledgeable advice on next steps to revive the plant. He also helped water the orchid on the spot and gave advice on how to keep it hydrated. I was relieved to speak with someone that knew exactly what to do, vs. me going down a rabbit hole of YouTube video solutions. TJ is "The Plant Whisperer" or your local garden expert! Alexander and Caitlyn were also very kind and helpful. Their indoor selection is just as beautiful as their outdoor space and they have a variety of gorgeous orchids and specialized pots. Love this hidden gem! I've seen this around for awhile but never went in. I've been sleeping on this place! So many plants to choose from, love the indoor space with indoor plants. There are also great selection outside which I didn't get the chance to browse around due to the rain. I brought my dog and the staff was incredibly friend. The worker Cat helped us find low maintenance plants and she was super friendly/patient. The space was incredibly clean inside too! I wish I had more time to browse around given there's a 25% holiday sale on all indoor plants right now! I might have to go back and grab more plants as gifts. I ended up getting two plants for a total of $41 - one of which got wrapped up in a bowl as a gift. My dog and I loved coming here and I can't wait to come back to get more plants. read more

This place has to be in the top 5 best nurseries in the San Leandro, Castro Valley, Hayward Area. They have one of the largest selection of fruit around. They have a large succulent collection. I also like their quality. I have bought 3 fruit trees from them and all three are bearing fruit. The white peach tree bared fruit in its first year surprisingly. They also a selection or plants that you don't always see in your typical big box store. If you're a Nursery Hoe like myself you should at least stop in and see if they have that unique off the wall piece that ties it all together. read more

I love this place! The folks who work here are friendly and helpful. They have plenty of variety to fill up my garden beds. I often pick up plants as gifts here for friends. The koi pond is gone which is sad, but my kiddo loves coming here. We are often offered dog treats so the pup loves it here too. They often have sales and also have a rewards program! This place was a lifesaver during the pandemic and continues to exceed my expectations! I rarely leave empty handed because something beautiful always catches my eye. I spent over $1000 at this nursery while re landscaping my home. They sold me a plant ($90 standing rose tree) that was so infested with bugs that it has destroyed every plant on my property. And they must have tried to rid the aphids with some very toxic chemicals because these bugs are extremely resistant to everything now. I have tried three different sprays nightly for 3 weeks and they are still there (and have spread everywhere now). I went back and asked and he admitted they have a bug problem. I think if there wasn't a pandemic going on, there would be a much larger selection of planters which is what I was mainly looking for. Evergreen is located in an area with their own parking lot. If you need soil, you buy it first and then drive to the area for them to put it in your car. I unfortunately picked a pot that didn't have a price tag. They couldn't find another one. To make a long story short, after the manager looked for a catalog it took about 20 min foe them to track down the item and the price. For my inconvenience, they gave me 20% off which was very nice. I finally leave to head to the area to pickup my soil. And I wait and wait and wait and no one comes out. I finally had to flag someone down and they got my soil. I hope this was just an off visit for me. Cute place, good thing I wasn't in a hurry, bur maybe my expectations were too high for supplies and services. read more

They are super friendly! I love going early on the weekend. They have fruit trees, maples, flowers, ground cover, veggies, etc. and a nice selection of indoor plants. I've visited this nursery on-and-off for about 10 yrs with my last visit about 2 years ago...it's been awhile as those last 2 times the plants were limited and didn't look all that great...maybe I came during an off time though I did go during summer (vs winter). Place has definitely changed with an inventory of great-looking plants. Variety of succulents, water-wise plants and Japanese maples and shaded plants like ferns, hydrangeas and hostas. Indoor section well stocked with plant food, fertilizers and a section of decorative pots and airplants Unfortunately, you won't have staff asking if you need any assistance outside but once you get to the register, Natalie will forewarn you about certain plants which I appreciated. Like if a particular plant needs a lot of water, does better in the shade and what it's natural environment is....back goes the hosta that needs a lot of water! I thought would look great in the shaded area of my yard but focused more on water-wise/low maintenance plants like succulents, salvia, native grasses...thanks Natalie for saving me a plant that would eventually turn into a burnt crisp! :) Place has plenty of signage on safety, wearing masks, ground marked for 6ft distance and cash not accepted. read more

This nursery exceeded my expectations! There was such an abundance of everything and all the plants were so healthy! The houseplant area was wild. Upon walking in, there was a HUGE monstera deliciosa (goals). There was a variety of commercially rare houseplants to common ones. The prices are not bad either!! They also had a lot of plant care things like fertilizers, soil, pots. The outside area had so much variety, like succulents, vegetables/ fruits, and trees. There was a koi pond too. Seasoned Evergreen Nursery employees have so much indoor and outdoor plant knowledge. If you need guidance, you can get it. Personally, I realize they have a lot to do, so I won't detain them if I think it's too busy. When time is of the essence, I'll bet you can get everything your heart desires on the first visit; there are plants here from God knows where. And there are quite a lot of plant decorative decisions that can be satisfied with a beautiful clay pot, or hanging sling, or painted frog, geico, or lizard. A few of my best looking and favorite indoor plants were purchased from Evergreen Nursery. Try a "ZZ" indoor houseplant if you are new and want a good start with the hobby. But, I'm not the pro. I have determined they types of plants that thrive in my place. And I have discovered certain kinds of plants can't survive with me. When you find plants that you can make happy, they will please you! Some of my plants clean the air. Others provide flowers. Some grow fast; others seasonally, and a few slooooowly. Guests might step on the tail if your cat or dog. Guests can't damage your heartiest plants! You'll get lots of compliments and some envy when you show off your best plants. I discovered Evergreen as I was driving into San Leandro. I am a beginner in gardening and was looking to build a garden. All I knew that I needed was potting dirt, seeds, and fertilizers; but after talking to the staff, my gardening project isn't as easy as it seems. I found the staff here to be super friendly and helpful. If a person I spoke to did not know the answer, they have no hesitation to guide me to another colleague to help answer my question. They have a huge selection of plats to walk through and peer at. From trees, fruit trees, succulents, California native flowers, and vegetable starters/saplings, it's just so fun to walk around and enjoy the views. Indoors where the cash register is located, they have various house-planted plants and beautiful pots as well as plant seeds. My favorite though is being able to buy gravel it soil from them and having it delivered by a dump truck. They have bags of dirt you can buy, but if you need a larger amount of dirt (or wood chips, mulch, or stones...), you can coordinate with Evergreen and they will deliver it to you for a fee. What I love about them the most is the mushroom dirt they sell. They procure leftover/ used mushroom medium and turn it into nutritious dirt for your garden. So for using the dirt that I bought from them, so far so good! ~Quarantine Review~ Once again checking out plant nurseries as this has become my new hobby during quarantine. I especially like the outdoor plant nurseries since there's a lower chance of catching Covid outdoors and it's nice to have fresh air. I didn't end up picking any plants from this spot, but I really like the koi pond fixture they had in the nursery. It's super cute and it's fun to watch the koi fishes swimming. This is a neighborhood nursery that has a good variety of plants and can special order ones they don't have in store. When my boys were younger, we'd come to pick up some plants and we'd always end up spending more than a few minutes at the koi pond. Years later it's still there. They also have a beautiful selection of planters inside with some of the most amazing indoor plants! During quarantine, my elderly mother wanted to get out for a bit. I've been a customer of this nursery since Spring of 2023. They have a nice variety of fruit trees, and they are decently priced. Occasionally, they have really good sales on fruit trees that range from 40%-50% off, which I eagerly try to take advantage of. The service they provide when you are at the nursery is good too. The staff is friendly, and very helpful. However, there is 1 unsatisfactory experience I would like to mention. During their most recent sale, I purchased 1 of their 3-in-1 apple trees, which has different varieties of apple branches grafted to 1 tree. I was super excited to get a tree like this, which I was going to give it as a gift, and when I went to pick it up it seemed healthy. I should have done my research on Fuji apple pollinators prior to accepting the tree they picked out for me. The tree they picked for me had Fuji apple, Ana apple, and Golden Dorsett branches on it. Everyone loves Fuji apples, but that variety needs a pollinator that blooms in mid to late Spring. Ana and Dorsett bloom early in Spring, so my tree is not likely to produce Fuji apples unless I graft a late blooming pollinator on the tree like gala or golden delicious. Technically, they did not bamboozle me. The listing they put online said the tree would have 3 of the following 4 varieties of apples, which were Fuji, Gala, Dorsett Golden, and Ana. The tree they picked out for me unfortunately had 2 early blooming apple varieties on it, and 1 late blooming variety. This may be a fun project in the future where I can learn to graft golden delicious apples on this tree, but make sure you know the pollination requirements of any apple tree you buy! read more
