I came during the covid 19- I'd highly suggest looking up the product you would like before hand and calling to check that the item is in stock. During covid they are not allowing people in the store. The staff seemed very knowledgeable over the phone and in person. They were able to let me know what they had avaliable in regards to brands quantity and price. Upon arrival the person taking orders was able to quickly grab my items from inside the store and check me out. I was passing this place one day and decided to stop in because I thought there might be live plants inside. The outside just says Garden Center, but I thought it was strange that it has no windows. I was so wrong, there are no plants inside at all. It's filled with all kinds of fertilizers, hydro/aeroponic supplies and nursery supplies. I'm glad I didn't Yelp this place before going in. I really would not have gone in and discovered that they have just about all the major/minor brands of fertilizers and the prices are considerably lower than the big box stores, local nurseries and the amazon. I don't know how they compare to other hydroponic shops pricing. read more

Most of the good stuff is expired by the time you try and buy it to take it home. Old outdated equipment, bottled nutrients from companies that should not be in business . Maybe like 1% of products available are useable to grow some good medicine or veggies, the rest is all salt based fertilizers that came out in the late 90's early 2000's, haven't heard of innovation??... The best thing they have is selection of pots in different sizes and sticky traps. Pretty much all the employees are extremely rude and pretentious. Ohh damn why can't I give no stars. This is a sad ass excuse for a business you don't tell customers you're open till 5 and close at 4. I drove from Stockton to Hayward only because I was told by the Tracy store that I should go here to buy my shit. I asked if they're open till 5 like the Tracy store and they tell me yes. I decided to try this shop out and buy some Base fertilizer for my outdoor grow. This shop was nearest my house so I gave them a shot- big mistake. As mentioned by other reviewers, the staff here have this condescending attitude about them it put me off the first time, but all the same I bought the fertilizer and everything went well. I returned a second time today for some bloom food for my plant, asked the dude working the counter what I should be looking for and if a brand ( recommended by a friend ) is any good. Instead I get a long winded answer telling me I shouldn't be buying that cheap stuff and if my friend "owns me." I was conveniently steered towards the more expensive product. I was so put off by this employees off putting condescending attitude, I just placed his product back on the shelves and went down Hesperian to another Hydroponics store. I was able to find the bloom food as well as a measuring cup and special bud pesticide to deter spider mites- all for the exact same price as the "cheap stuff" at this shop. I am sure that 99% of the customers here are growing their own or someone else's medication, but I would now like to speak for the 1%. I discovered that I can get DynaGro and Fox Farm products in larger containers that make my Citrus trees and Maple Trees, very happy, for a very nice price. Grower's Choice carry much of the Fox Farm line of planting and potting soils. I was also able to get bamboo poles and these neat little clips that hold up my cucumbers and tomatoes. I believe these things should last for many seasons. Basically, if you are shopping in the fertililizer, pesticide, or the fungicide isle of you local hardware store, you should give this place a try. By the way, the staff has always been extremely helpful. read more

I went in for compost. I got pushed pods and heat maps. And when I say pushed, I really mean pushed. As in, awkward silences after I established politely I was not interested, followed by a continued and contrived argument for why I needed this expensive electrical equipment. Ignoring questions on what I wanted in order to sell me something else. The rep missed several opportunities to sell me what I came in to buy. His refusal to sell me some soil made me think his actual goal was to force me out the door. And that's what he did. I am never coming back, they have the worst customer service ever. I've visited this location about six times to stock up on nutrients and fans for my grows. The only reason I come here is because they carry a brand of nutrients that is hard to find elsewhere. It's a bit annoying to shop here because they dont label prices. They will have to consult the supplier handbook every time you ask. I would bring my small dog in with my each time until today, when I was rudely refused service as soon as I walked in... "Don't we have a sign outside that says no dogs?" (No, they don't) Not hello, or excuse me, we dont allow pets. Just that surly question. I told him "I guess you don't want my business, but it wasnt a problem the last six visits..." He was totally unmoved, shrugged and said "nope, no dogs." So if you have a pet or service animal expect to be turned away by this surly business. read more

Nice location and selection. You wont have trouble finding a spot to park in the large lot empty lot. I like to talk to employees to find out about the latest and greatest products, the problem is that you can't do that here. The employees here don't look up, or even greet you when you walk in. They certainly don't offer to help you if they see you looking around. If you do flag one down, you won't get the chill stoner hobby grower vibes you may get at other hydro shops. I tried to get more info on their products and the employee basically shrugged. They don't seem happy to explain much or give info on products. read more

Growers choice rocks. they got pretty competitive prices compared to other hydro shops, and are usually willing to cut a deal. Sometimes if i buy a bunch of stuff they give me nute samples and stuff for free. If you are a novice grower and new the scene you might feel intimidated, but if you know the right people they are on your side. read more

I love that place, they always hook it up. I've been going there since they opened in modesto almost ten years ago and I've never been done wrong. u got to deal with mike or Anthony(I think Anthony is on break, or busy because I never see him anymore). Now i deal with mike (cool dude,minus the cigarette smoking but more importantly knows his shit!), they also helped out when i was short twenty bucks but they let me slide to the end of the week I'm not to sure about the last kid's review, they have been selling the equipment that you use now for over half your life and I bet they didn't start the store without knowing how to grow read more
