If you are into gardening you will love this place. I was looking for a Mexican oregano plant, which is not easily found in most nurseries and I found one at East Bay nursery for reasonable price of I called ahead of time and received exceptional customer service. They also went out into the garden to doublecheck that they had one in stock and they did and they held it for me at the front desk. While I was there, I was admiring all of the exotic plants, flowers, herbs, and trees and all the gardening accessories you may ever need. I loved seeing all their seasonal Halloween theme planters and little decorations that you can put throughout your garden to make your garden festive for Halloween. They even had small Christmas trees in stock. This is a lovely nursery with lots of beautiful plants and accessories and great employees that are roaming around ready to help you at any time. They also have their own dedicated parking lot and lots of street parking. Next time you're in Berkeley or if you need to get an exotic plant, I highly recommend visiting East Bay Nursery. read more

Just one of my favorite nurseries!! So much to look at, adore and take home! I've been on the hunt for a money tree and East Bay Nursery had the perfect one for me. And my bestie was looking for a bonsai tree and what do you know?!! So many to choose from. We also picked up some of their gorgeous air plants!! I love this place so much. They have a great selection of plants, well organized, and over the years most of my yard has become filled with plants I bought here. You know this nursery is a good place to give your business to because I also see the same people working here year over year. Everyone is SO friendly and helpful and are always happy to give advice. You can tell everyone enjoys their job and everyone always knows the inventory and I get so many little tips as a still somewhat inexperienced gardener. Prices are not super cheap but everything I get is healthy! Also, the best part is their Christmas ornament selection in the winter where they convert almost half of their indoor space to whimsical Christmas ornaments. Well, it's official, I can no longer afford East Bay Nursery. :( I went to pick up 4 small pots of flax plants and what used to be $14.99 is now $29.99. Price doubled in the last year or so. I guess I'll have to go to Home Depot or Lowe's for these. I'd rather support small businesses but at $120 for 4 small flax plants, I can't afford to do this. read more

I have been on a hunt for a smoke bush in a 1 gallon can. The nurseries I've called have had them in 5 gallon cans or not at all. I was beginning to lose hope but last night I called East Bay Nursery, asked and they had some. I would have gone right down, but they close at 5 and it was just before 5 so I put it on my list of today's errands, although I don't like to go to nurseries or anyplace else likely to be busy on the weekend. I prefer to go during the week because I can and working people generally can't. Today after stops at Down Home Music and Picnic I drove to the nursery. Parking was difficult. I drove around the block and through the parking lot twice before finding a vacant spot on the street in front. I walked in and asked the cashier about smoke bushes and bougainvilleas. She called Cooper up to help me and he provided incredible service First I asked about the smoke bush and it turns out I hadn't been specific enough. The ones they had in one gallon containers were the green ones and I wanted the purple ones, which they had in 5 gallon containers like everyone else who had them at all. I asked about bougainvillea and Cooper sent me over to wait in the shade while he brought me some to look at. I told him I was interested in the variegated flowers and if they didn't have those the magenta would be fine. He returned w/ an assortment and I chose a lovely one in a 1 gallon pot. I will wait for Natasha to return because bougainvilleas are fussy about having their roots disturbed and I don't trust myself to do it w/o killing it. I also asked about irises and they had both California and Douglas. I chose purple ones of each. We went in and I checked out, then Cooper carried my plants to the car and soon I was on my way, full of gratitude. When I got home I did an online search and found Amazon had a seller w/ 1 gallon cans in purple so I ordered one. It was $25. I noticed later that Home Depot had one for $45, so I have a fallback plan in case something doesn't work out. read more

I'm sure I stayed there longer than I needed because I felt so peaceful to do the surroundings. There was plenty of help around if it was ever needed. Hubby wanted some small bamboo like plants in pots for our backyard. We decided on Horsetail which looks like skinny bamboo with no leaves. We could not find this in our local Home Improvement stores due to their limited selections and we did not want to order online because we want to see the actual plant before buying it. I found the East Bay Nursery website and was able to request a search for Horsetail plant availability. They replied with size and price the next day. Parking was convenient, the place turned out to be huge but workers were helpful. At the register, I found an adorable vintage glass water sprayer, which is super useful for heating up breads and rice, treasure found. Will definitely come back for specific garden needs. read more

East bay nursery has a great outdoor plant selection, and always has the cool, popular succulents. Houseplants are a little on the limited side though. I will say that I specifically go here for planter saucers. I like the dark gray terracotta, and this is the only business I've come across who have the 2 inch saucers in that color. They have their own parking lot but space is limited. If anything, you can find street parking. Staff is usually nice, which is a plus! read more

I've been on the hunt for a few specific fruit trees and have been emailing around to various nurseries in the area for info (on inventory, pricing and care instructions). East Bay Nursery was by far the most helpful and responsive. I headed onsite on Saturday and was DELIGHTED!! Who knew there was this fairy garden of treasures right on San Pablo Avenue. It's easy to miss as you are driving by ... but once you know it's there, I'm going to want to stop in all the time. My husband was with me and usually he's just there to provide the muscle and the truck - but even he had a wonderful time looking at all the plants and stuff. He kept saying that everything looked so healthy and vibrant and if this was normal. The staff on site was very knowledgable and so helpful. I was very happy with their assortment of fruit trees and ended up buying more than I originally planned .... which is ridiculous because these are going to be TREES that will grow big and tall in my yard! I had to rework some landscape ideas to ensure they all fit and can get proper sun! For reference - since I went in early Feb, they had a great assortment of apple, peach, plum, pluot, pear and cherry trees. Not a ton yet of citrus but their is a pandemic shortage and usually citrus doesn't get in till late Feb / March. Specifically, I was able to get my Babcock peach tree, and also saw several varietals of Asian pear trees. They also have grafted 3in1, 4in1 trees as well as espalier apples. I wish I had a bigger yard now so I can keep buying more plants from EBN. read more

Stopped here for a few items today. Had the most helpful nursery employee! I needed to buy a vine. He took me to the vines, helped me pick out the best one. I needed to find a spray to eliminate the black stuff off the leaves of my lemon trees. He connected me with someone knowledgeable. Great experience! read more

I love this nursery! It's somewhat an unexpected location for a nursery, since it blends in with the neighboring automobile establishments. I discovered it on a random walk and I couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised! I spent an hour or two here looking around at the huge variety of plants and reading their descriptions on their little signs. It's a lot bigger than expected. They have enough space for a back section for young trees like Japanese Maple and a variety of fruit trees. You know this nursery is thriving when there's a ton of butterflies and bees hovering around the flowers!! They also have an indoor plant selection, which wasn't as extensive as the outdoor but I thought the prices were fairly reasonable compared to other plant nurseries in the city. I'm not sure if they still do this but they also sometimes put out free plants near the checkout counter! Last time I went (August), I grabbed a pilea peperomioides! WHEN: THURSDAY @12:45pm My sis and we're just do happen to be in the area and wanted to find a nursery to check out. PARKING we didn't know they actually have their own parking lot! It's not huge but you may luck out to grab a spot! We didn't want to pay for metered parking so we managed to residential free parking behind the nursery. Masks are required and they have a table for hand sanitizer. Most of the nursery is outdoors and it wasn't very busy around this hour, so it wasn't too hard to maintain distance. There are plenty of shopping carts, and even more plants to choose from! They are all clearly priced and are organized in all sorts of sections: succulents, herbs and vegetables, etc. There's a large section of PLANTER POTS too! They pretty much have everything you need. My sis was able to get a LOT of help from Dominique, who was user friendly and knowledgeable. If you spend $75+ you can get 10% off with your yelp check in! Oh and they provide large parchment paper for your car so it stays clean from your purchase! I love it here. I'd like to come back for sure! read more

** BUYER BEWARE ** I went to East Bay Nursery to purchase some sphagnum moss for a propagation project. I'd never purchased it before so I wasn't quite sure what to look for. I purchased a bag for $21.99; which I thought was a bit pricey, but I was happy to support a local store. I immediately went home and started on my project. However when I removed the moss from the bag something seemed off, continuing on I went to spat the moss and noticed it wasn't very absorbent. So I checked the bag to ensure I was doing it correctly. As I checked out the bag I realized it said that it was for decorative purposes. Then I realized there was a sticker on the bag covering the ACTUAL name which was Spanish Moss. I was so surprised and confused. I called to let the store know to which they said they'd give me a refund. But why would they do this in the first place is my question?! Needless to say I'll never shop here again. Shame on you for misleading customers read more

Excellent service here, Christian was super helpful during my very first visit. We were able to speak about the layout of the location, hoe plants were organized and even speak to the curative experience of garden design. Though I am still in the midst of my planning, I came away with amazing ideas, and a stronger plan that I entered with. Christian helped me to get a greater feel for selection, and walked me through pricing for pottery and ceramics that were out of reach. Included are a few plant types that caught my eye for my exterior garden. An expansive selection of trees is available at this location; helpful when considering the thrillers, spillers and fillers of a strong and beautiful garden design. Other plant stores around The Bay seem to cater to interior gardening needs with the trending of house plants; but this location hosts inventory for both needs. The indoor plant section is smaller in scale, but still strong. So many supplies that help to maintain a garden are here as well. read more

Family owned since 1942, this well known garden center has a very good selection of flowers, shrubs, trees, vines, succulents, and vegetables in all sized containers. They also have a nice selection of California native plants. Complete selection of soil, fertilizer, containers, tools and pest control solutions. The 4" annual and perennials section is on the small side compared to other nurseries in the area, but they have nice, healthy plants. Many of the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable, but several are not. They have their own parking lot, but getting a spot can be a challenge as this is a busy store. Street parking is often tough. They are closed on Sunday and Monday. read more

Because of our passion for plants, we've been traveling way out of our immediate area to get our hands on lovingly grown and specialty plants for our yard. On our way to the east bay, we happened upon this place and stopped in for a peek-and so glad we did! I could tell from the road this was a large nursery, but I was impressed with how much space they really did have. The parking in the front was easy to access, and they had lots of carts for help with transport of plants and trees. We did our zig-zag usual scoping out of the place, as to not miss anything, and wow, there was a lot to see. Initially, I was pretty impressed with how many people asked us if we needed help, which I thought was nice. I was also impressed with their very clear delineation of zones to help guide you in the right direction if you were searching for a particular item. We also took a tour of the pond/garden in the back which was interesting... Ultimately, we ended up getting what we were heading to the east bay for- a gorgeous Nancy Garrison passion fruit vine. It was in great shape, and was a little more expensive than their smaller counterparts at other stores, but this one looked so healthy, it was worth the extra $. We were really happy to see how many hummingbirds were swooping through the garden, and the flowers were buzzing with activity. There were definitely plants we considered adding to our order, but for this trip, just the passionfruit plant was enough for us. This was way closer than going to east bay for us, and was nice to discover for our next plant excursion. read more

I was shopping for outdoor plants and found the ones at this nursery are in good condition and well cared for while being no more expensive than at other nurseries, like Orchard or Sloat. Additionally, I see no reason at all to go to the "big box" stores to buy plants or trees as they have poor selection, zero expertise available, and equivalent prices that also often include plants and trees of "iffy" quality. Though living way out in Clayton, so far, this is the best East Bay nursery that I have run into and I will be returning. read more

While I was driving down San Pablo Avenue, I noticed East Bay Nursery on the corner. There was room in their parking lot, so, I decided to park and check them out. The next thing that I noticed was the wonderful murals that are painted on some of the outside walls. They also have a security guard. Out front, there are large watering troughs that could be used creatively for more than watering livestock. EBN is neat and in order. Everything looks in it's place. It is also much bigger than it looks from the street. When you enter, you enter a specific way (and exit a different way--good for Covid prevention). Everyone needs to wear a mask. They have an outside structure that is covered, and has rows and rows of vegetable and herb starts.  They have an outside uncovered area with trees that are in season, and outdoor plants. Everything is labeled so you can easily identify what you are looking at. Inside the room where you make your purchases, besides having indoor plants, there are tools, ceramic pots, and humming bird feeders. They are closed Sunday, and Monday. Also, if it raining--call to make sure they are open. read more

Had to get some delivered. They don't hit you after your purchase with a big delivery fee. The service is EXCEPTIONAL! The darn gophers got to my plants and my Meyer lemon tree. So I went to east bay nursery based on my friend's advice. Laura was right on! A worker saw me struggling with a cart; helped me maneuver to the lemon tree section and selected one with flowers, then loaded it onto my cart. Then he suggested the 5 gallon gopher cage. I told him about the lily of Nile's the critters took and he again examined the plants and got me two with buds Not pushy or impatient!! And the butcher paper to protect my car's interior had me a bit frustrated but another worker came by and showed me the best way to cut the paper. Thanks East Bay Nursery!! read more

I was looking for some house plants and fruit trees for my mom's garden. After reading the many positive reviews and hearing about the wide variety of plants, I had to drive up to check it out. When I first arrive, I noticed the parking lot is small and pretty busy, so you may need to wait a while for a space if you come later in the day. There are social distancing requirements and cleaned carts which are a plus. They have such a wide selection of plants. You could spend hours here walking down all the rows of plants and reading their information card. I went looking specifically for a rubber tree plant, snake plant, pilea peperomiodes, and a persimmon tree. I found all except the pilea peperomiodes which the employee reassured me she would order for the next month since many asked. I will definitely go back to shop for more. I also ended up going home with a few planters and a mint plant. The larger plants (almost fully grown) did cost a lot more. I decided to go with the smaller plants to save a little money but also enjoy the slow journey of plant growth. Just an FYI. I found spider mites on the snake plant I bought when I got home. So I did have to wash and quarantine the plant for a few days before placing it next to other plants I have in the house. So far the plants have been thriving over the summer and fall season. I'm happy with my purchase and look forward to shopping here again. read more
