Matthew, the owner was great at giving me directions: "by the Welcome San Leandro sign (going Northbound) and drive down the driveway". Found D & S Garden Supplies in an industrial building with no issue! Gardening supplies like fertilizer, hydroponic nutrients, various soil brands, plant cages (including dragonfruit) and many other items...just ask. Place has been around for 30 years, open to the public with reasonable pricing. Located in a very non-descript building in the industrial area and probably why I never knew this wonderful spot existed! She had devoted a large amount of social media content for the new plants that she acquired, particularly from local gardeners and nurseries. After commenting on a couple, she knew I was very intrigued by this Tender Gardener, from whom she made many nice purchases from. During my birthday, she and another colleague purchased a gift card for me. Shortly, I had spent a long time looking through the items they offered. Over the course of 3 months, I noticed they restock on a lot of items that sell out (means their business is doing many things right), and them carrying a lot of exotic items that I have never seen before. Their website also offers a lot of insightful articles that help customers make informed decisions and care for the precious pieces that they purchase. Another great thing about The Tender Gardener is that they offer free Friday deliveries, for purchases of over $30, for Oakland and San Francisco (and have since expanded). I ended up purchasing two plans (photos uploadeded) for a friend who recently purchased a home in Oakland. The purchase, delivery, and service was phenomenal.

Il had an an azalea that hadn't flowered in 5 years, well she's blooming now. I also got a real education on pH-ing the water for cannabis, and I transferred that knowledge to my other plants. I'm so into pH-ing that I pH my chicken and ducks water. These guys deal with serious growers, but they also deal with wannabe serious growers like myself. The other thing I like about the place is it's not like going to an understaffed nursery where you have to track someone down to get information. They are right there and will give you the time necessary to get your job done right. And lastly this is icing on the cake, some of the best prices on soil. And good soil, not Miracle let's throw some glyphosate into the mix while nobody's looking Grow stuff. We're talking Fox Farm, Organic Roots to name a few. Some of the plants are a bit on the pricey side, but they are all beautiful and well cared for, and you're supporting a small business, so it's worth it. On my last trip, I scored a beautiful Hoya Kerrii for $13.50. It was such a fantastic deal considering how many leaves it has! I also love that they have tiny plants in tiny pots, which makes you feel like you're growing something from scratch, plus they're super cute! I'm not in the East Bay often but will make sure I stop here, next time I'm in the area. Highly recommend!

I really love that it's POC/queer-owned and an LGBTQ+ welcoming space. The plants are on the pricier side, but it's absolutely worth it--everything is pest-free, handled with proper care, and their soil mix is great. Their new store is also fantastic--much bigger with a bright, airy feel. Will continue coming back :)
