Such a neighbour hood gem. The space is clean and updated, and the staff is incredibly friendly. We were seated right away with a warm smile and given the menus and tea. A warning that this is a typical Asian style service, where you order by writing down what you want and handing it to the server. I got the salted plum soda and pork spring rolls to start. The soda was salty and refreshing, while the spring rolls were glass shattering crispy and flavourful. For my main, I had the vermicelli bowl with bbq pork and pork sausage as well as the pho. Both were filling, and the pork sausage was definitely the highlight. Both were very generous portions and we left very full. I recommend if you're looking for a casual weeknight dinner!
Service is very friendly, quick and efficient. The interior is clean and looks relatively new. I ordered their deep fried spring rolls and the house special pho. Spring rolls were very crispy and good. Sauce could be a little stronger. Sauce was a little bland and it would've been better to be a tad bit sweeter and a little saltier but other than that, the rolls were crispy and good. As for the pho, the broth was clean but a tad bland. I don't usually eat my food salty and I had to add a bit of the hoisin and sriracha to add more flavour. The special has beef balls, beef slices and tripe but no tendon which was unfortunate. I think the it would've also tasted better if they added some more onion slices to the pho. It's nice to hang out but if I'm craving pho, I would probably go elsewhere.
Mi Mi has been a staple of East Chinatown for many years, and though I hadn't been back in a while I can see why it remains a neighbourhood favourite. I tried Bun Rieu (rice noodles with crab+pork meatballs in a tomato soup) for the very first time, and I loved it. There was a great variety of toppings, and I especially loved the tofu puffs which soaked up the soup up very well. I do think the flavour of this broth could be divisive as it does have a somewhat pungent and sour taste (some might even describe it as fishy), and my boyfriend wasn't a fan but I absolutely loved it. The texture of the noodles were perfectly bouncy as well. The rice dish that my boyfriend got was also good, and had quite the generous amount of protein. Now I'm wondering why I haven't been to Mi Mi more often, and I'm looking forward to my next visit. CASH ONLY btw! (Though I believe they have an ATM on site)
Mi Mi Restaurant is located in East Chinatown where they serve up some delicious Vietnamese food. The staff are friendly and it is cash only. I decided to stop by Mi Mi on a Sat night around 7pm or so. My partner and I were greeted and given menus. Staff also give you a sheet of paper so that you can write down your orders. We shared a fresh roll and I opted for the bún riêu while my partner got the phở. We both enjoyed the dishes we ordered. The bún riêu is probably one of the best ones I've had in the city. That broth contained the flavours of the crab and the noodles were well cooked. I could have drank all the broth if I had room for it! Overall, delicious food and friendly staff. Will return for more!
I was in the area and saw the high ratings for this restaurant, so my friends and I decided to check it out. It's a good sign when there are quite a few diners in the restaurant at 3 pm in the afternoon. We were seated quickly and were provided with friendly and efficient service. I ordered the bun with BBQ beef, spring rolls and sugarcane shrimp. This was served quickly and was very tasty. The portion size was good too. The only small point is we thought that the meat was a little overcooked. However, overall, we had a great dining experience and the restaurant didn't disappoint with its delicious food, and quick and friendly service!
Recently renovated and moved few shops down to 686A Gerrard St. Still the same owner and taste, especially loved the bun rieu (crab soup noodle). Not spicy just tomato based with tons of crab flavours!
Amazing spot with a lot of loyal customers. Great service, consistent great food. This spot is cash only so make sure to come prepared and enjoy!
Still no ATM or cc but now I know No debit is inconvenient But they are so nice And food is great
Good place, very friendly people. Pho and spring rolls are solid, we also tried the bbq beef - very yummy Still cash only, there is cash machine inside, but if you prefer an actual bank owned cash machine there is a Scotiabank at Broadview & Gerrard - I think this is the closest actual bank machine.
Mi Mi is a staple in old China Town. They've been around for 35 years!!! The owners are super friendly especially the daughter. She is always so genuine, warm and friendly. Many times we visited close to their closing time but they've never made us feel unwelcome or rushed. Seriously the best and most consistent service out of ALL the Vietnamese restaurants I've ever been to! The have the best bbq meats hands down. My husband loves their wrap-it-yourself bbq platter. I enjoy their Bun Bo Hue (you can choose between lean beef or brisket) As a personal preference, I don't think they have the best tasting soup base for pho. I also wish they have the double fried spring roll.
The first time I drove around East Chinatown, I noticed an abundance of Vietnamese restaurants and it's been on my mind to return for some Vietnamese food. Over the weekend, I was in the area and Googled up a restaurant to grab lunch. I saw there's quite a bit of review and the rating was high here at Mi Mi Restaurant so I decided on this one. It wasn't too busy when we stopped by and was able to street park right outside the restaurant and was immediately greeted and seated. This is a family run restaurant and everybody was extremely friendly and efficient! My friend ordered the beef brisket and beef ball pho while I ordered the bun rieu. For the pho, it comes in size large and extra large while the bun rieu is one size and equivalent to a size large. When the noodles arrived, the presentation looked great and we couldn't wait to dig in! The broth tasted amazing and it was packed with noodles and toppings! By the time I finished the last bite, I was completely full and my friend had to pack half of hers home and finished it for dinner! If we got appetizers, we could've totally shared one large size and still be full! Their portions were generous, the flavour was amazing and the service was excellent! This is definitely a spot I will visit again!
I get why this place is a neighbourhood institution: the food is fresh and tasty, the prices are fair, the staff is super welcoming, and the vibe is casual homey. Tried the beef vermicelli with spring rolls and the boneless chicken and stir fry shrimp with rice, and both were really good. Also loved both the drinks we got - the iced Vietnamese coffee and durian shake. They have a huge menu so you won't run out of options. Will be back! read more
No frills, authentic Vietnamese cuisine. Back to the basics, a hearty meal best on a rainy day. Service was friendly, locals dine in and lots of delivery pick up orders. Ventilation is not the best , especially when they cook up a storm in the kitchen. Street parking or Green P nearby. read more

Mi Mi is a humble and longtime East Chinatown gem serving authentic Vietnamese comfort food. Portions are generous, I had the well known fresh / summer rolls with shrimp and crispy shrimp and mushroom filled apps. I really enjoyed the traditional Vietnamese drip coffee and the red bean drink. The service is friendly and quick. The space is casual and homey, though it can get busy and it's cash-only. It's a reliable spot for hearty, flavourful Vietnamese classics at great value. Very accessible by streetcar as well. read more

I was surprised to be disappointed considering the reviews. I chalk it to my higher expectations and more sophisticated palate. The pho was utterly disappointing. First, the broth wasn't piping hot. The beef portion was skimpy and it wasn't rare as indicated on the menu. The broth wasn't pungent as it should be. However, the noodles itself was very good - al dente! The grilled meat wasn't marinated as well as it could have. The chicken was bland. The beef was burnt and overly dry. The pork was just very average. However, if you prefer an overly sweet sauce to your pork, then it's down your alley. Didn't quite work out for me. read more

Basically the food tasted good. I ordered pork chop with rice and it also came with soup. Nothing wrong with the food. And there's quite a few selections to choose from on the menu. The only thing was that it was a large group of us and we had to write down our orders on pieces of paper, which somehow got confusing. Then we waited a long time for the food to come. So the gist is, they are not well equipped to handle large groups last minute. But i should think everything would be fine if you go with a small group of people. read more
The food was decent but just missed the mark slightly. Ordered the Banh Hoi Dac Biet which is assorted grilled meats that you wrap with veggies and vermicelli. The platter was beautiful but the seasoning was just not authentic, meats were not served hot from the grill either. The fish sauce was too sweet. Also ordered Bun Bo Hue which lacked depth of flavour and was also not hot enough. Side note, if you like this dish, Que Ling nearby does it beautifully. read more

There are so many different Vietnamese restaurants in the Gerrard and Broadview area. Sometimes it is not easy to decide which one to go. Me and my friend was walking along Gerrard looking for a place for our Pho fix. Mi Mi Restaurant looked packed on a Sunday afternoon and I thought it must be good if the place is busy... I was wrong and right at the same time... We were lucky to get the last available table, after that people start lining up waiting for one. Special Pho XL ($7.50) - The broth is so clear...but full of flavours.. though lacking the star anise but is A-OK - All the Beef that comes with the Pho were nicely prepared.. taste wise, texture wise.. - Noodle though not fresh but was also nicely prepared - XL is huge....we cannot finish the whole order! Spring Rolls ($3.95) - has taro inside as stuffings.. not usual in a lot of other Vietnamese restaurant I been to - pipping hot when it arrived... - the wrappings are more the Chinese spring roll wrappings Mi Mi Restaurant is the only Vietnamese I been to when our nice polite waitress asked me if we want more broth for our Pho!! My friend is a Pho soup monster..she was drinking the soup without even eating the noodle!! So the food is quite good and service is nice.. I would give a 3.5 to 4 star. However, it took us almost 1 hour to finish our lunch!! Now I know the reason why Mi Mi was packed this particular afternoon.. we waited more than 30 minutes for our food to arrive!! All these people were just sitting there waiting for their food!! If I go for Pho, I expect to be fast and quick, in and out within 30 min..not 1 hour!!!!!!! read more
Stumbled across this place in East Chinatown. After reading the Yelp reviews, my mom and I decided to try it. I ordered the rice with chicken, shredded pork, and quiche. She ordered the vermicelli with spring rolls, and beef. My shredded pork, and quiche was absolutely delicious. As for the chicken it was juicy, but extremely tasteless. I don't think it was marinated long enough, because I have never tasted such bland chicken at any Vietnamese restaurant. As for my mom's meal, the beef was dry and the spring roll filling was really bland. If I had to come up with a title for this post, it would be "Drenched my meal in fish sauce". Overall, mom gave it a soft four, and I give it a three. read more

Stumbled into this restaurant on a Sunday afternoon with a group of 10. It's located in the heart of old china town. Judging from the decor and signage out front I wasn't expecting much especially since I saw this was a cash only place. To my surprised the food tasted better than I would have expected and the value is really good here. I would come back here for sure! Atmosphere - 3/5 Taste - 5/5 Portion -5/5 Price - 6/5 Atmosphere - the sign our front is scribbled in italic cursive red on a while background. There are a few large plants from the window and you can tell this is an authentic Vietnamese food. As you walk in, you can see the restaurant is long and narrow with about 20 to 30 seats. There is not much use of aesthetics on the wall. Taste - I ordered a chicken and porkchop on rice dish with shrimp roll and avocado milkshake. The rice dish came with chicken broth soup as well and it was excellent. The porkchop was cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth with a savoury finish. The chicken lacked taste as it was thicker so perhaps not as marinaded. The shrimp roll was ok and usually I look forward to the peanut sauce but this one did not taste like peanuts. The avocado shake was beautifully presented with two pieces of strawberry on the top. It was missing a bit of sugar but I also tend to have more of a sweet tooth so I think this would have tasted perfect to others. Portion - I definitely ordered with my eyes than my stomach. I was too full to finish all my food. I had a piece of the shrimp roll, some soup, and finished the porkchop but not the chicken so now I have lunch for tomorrow! Price - $12.50 for the rice dish, $4 for the avocado shake and $4 for the shrimp rolls. Pretty good value for what you are getting. read more

3.5 stars. Stumbled upon this place in "East Chinatown" with my son after visiting Leslieville . Authentic Viet food. Fried spring rolls had a right blend of stuffing, crispy but not oily. BBQ meats were tender and marinated well . I suspect these are their signature dishes. Bun Bo Hue was not bad but the soup lacked the thick spicy flavour. Coconut curry chicken vermicelli soup was flavourful but a tat too sweet. If come by this area again, would try their other dishes. read more
Was visiting Toronto with a friend, and had a craving for some pho. Put "pho" into her super oldschool gps, and ended up in this neighborhood. We were a little sketched out at first, just picking a random restaurant (no data on our cell phones in Toronto, so no yelp to guide us :p) Totally picked this place on a whim, and I'm glad we did. I'm only sad that it's so far from home and I can't have it more often. One of the best bowls of pho I've ever had, everything was so fresh. Same goes for the fresh spring rolls. I was also pleasantly surprised that the prices were on par with those that I pay here in the states. Usually eating in Canada is super expensive. The service was good as well, though the ordering of the food was a little different than I'm used to. The waitstaff doesn't actually take your order and write it down, there's a piece of paper and pen at your table and you do that part yourself. Guess it's a good thing, never have to worry about being misheard and having someone write it down incorrectly. Once we ordered the food came out quick, which is also a bonus. This will now be a stop every time I'm up in Toronto. Yum! read more

I went here with my friends and ordered the rare beef pho and shrimp spring rolls. The pho was okay, but definitely not the best I've ever had. I absolutely hated the shrimp spring rolls and the dipping sauce that came with it (it made me gag and I ended up spitting it out), but I think it's the same spring rolls that you would find at any other vietnamese restaurant so I don't blame them for that. I really liked that they had the option of hot or cold tea (we ordered cold tea, I think it was green tea!) and it was very refreshing on a hot day. This place is also airconditioned!! One thing that I didn't like is that by the front desk where you go to pay the bill they had a large container of fish sauce with no lid and it smelled very bad and unappetizing to me. They also only took cash, not even debit card was accepted so I had to run around looking for an atm. read more
