Revisited this place tonight and it was terrific. We both had shawarma pita sandwiches. Mine was chicken, his was beef. The housemade pitas were amazing. Each shawarma was served with a delectable falafel ball that was so light and delicious! Can't wait to come back here again! Was excited to try Meze because there aren't many Mediterranean restaurants in the area. The food was good, not great, but it was the service that wasn't the best. I added a 15% tip after ordering from a counter. I ordered my food to go. When waiting I noticed a sign on the wall saying bus your own table after finished. Why give a tip when it's basically like eating at McDonalds? Then the food was ready and they obviously didn't hear me say to go. Got lots of attitude and double checking of the receipt after I asked them to pack it up. I might stop by again but there's other restaurants in the area. read more

Outstanding food. We placed a large order for 8 of paleo bowls, shawarma bowls and felafel sandwiches, and took it to go. Everything was fresh, from the greens to bright and slightly pickled veggies to the meat and falafel. Everything was sauced to perfection, not too much and not too little. They would easily have earned 5 stars but... We asked about the green sauce because one in our party cannot have cilantro and learned it has both parsley and cilantro. So they readily left it out of one order. They volunteered that the felafel also contains cilantro, which was helpful so it too could be avoided. Just about every entree gets a felafel "as garnish", which is cool. But as it turned out there was cilantro in another component or perhaps even sprinkled on, so that was problematic. We did mention it was a dietary restriction, not a taste preference. All in all, the tastes and textures were amazing, and I'd go back in a heartbeat. read more

It's great when the dude is there (really like actually the best thing in town), when he isn't it's a real disaster. High school girls with vacant stares just bumping into each other back there while patrons watch in disbelief as to how this could be so inefficient. Waiting 40 min plus for a simple menu item is just avoidable at best, it's also just not the same food. Really too bad that there doesn't seem to be anyone that can hold it down when the grownup has time off, seriously just go by on a weekend and watch this disaster unfold. read more

I don't usually think that healthy (conscious) food would appeal to me but I was taking a friend out for her birthday and this was where she wanted to go. I was very pleasantly impressed with the quality, presentation and taste of the dish we ordered which was the falafel plate that comes with several dips and hummus and salad plus a fresh pita... wow! Super tasty We ordered this to share and added 3 falafels to the normal 5 pieces so we could have 4 each. A tasty little gem in downtown Grass Valley! Wholesome, fresh ingredients that make your tastebuds dance! They also have fun, personal sized desserts and special, off the menu soups. Lots of vegan, gf options, which is exactly what we were looking for! The staff knew their menu and were friendly and helpful. If I could afford to eat here every day, I would. We moved up here after living in Sonoma and Marin Counties for years so this type of price for top tier clean locally sourced food is standard for us. A lot of establishments I personally have tried in the area have let me down consistently, but MeZe has given me hope that there is amazing food to be had here in Nevada County- you just have to find it. I have yet to eat in, but I will say that the staff have been courteous and kind when I come to pick up my order. Their online ordering system makes it easy to modify items, and when you wish for something on the side, it is actually put aside for you instead of it not being on your plate, and just forgotten about altogether which I appreciate! Really quite the disappointment. The falafel was burnt on the outside and had the texture of sawdust on the inside. The eggplant dip lacked any smokiness. Nestled in an adorable part of Grass Valley, we yelped this restaurant on our way to our rental cabin & it did not disappoint! Staff were very friendly - I was helped twice (someone thought I hadn't been helped yet) - so attentive! We got the chicken & falafel plates with a variety of their sauce sides. Oh. My. Goodness. Packed with flavor. Best falafel I've ever had in my life; perfectly crunchy on the outside with light flavorful inside. The menu featured classic Middle Eastern street foods like falafel, hummus, shawarma, and kebabs, as well as "Mezetim," a selection of salads that accompany every meal in Israel! My pick was the "Plant Power Platter," which came with Israeli salad (diced cucumber and tomato), sauerkraut, beets, babaganoush, Moroccan carrots, tabbouleh, hummus, falafel, and pita bread! All the ingredients were so fresh and delicious--I especially liked the creamy hummus (dressed with zhoug, amba, and tahini), the crispy falafel, the Israeli salad, and the babaganoush (made with lots of tahini)! I also loved the handmade white pita bread, which was soft, pillowy, and chewy--the perfect vessel for scooping up the dips! Next, I tried the beef/lamb kebab in a pita, served with hummus, greens, sauerkraut, and Israeli salad. The ground kebabs kebabs were freshly grilled and juicy but were surprisingly flavorless. However, I was a fan of the hot sauce that came on the side, which added a nice balance of sour and spicy flavors! Fantastic spot! We weren't even in the mood for Mediterranean but saw this place and it looked too good to pass up! We were right! We got some chicken shawarma plates that had flavorful rice, well seasoned and tender chicken, and delicious, moist, yet crispy, falafel!! Big portions too- we could not finish! They were extremely accommodating of my husband's dairy and gluten allergies- almost with no modifications really.
