Christine- bakery chef & owner graciously worked with me to create the perfect cake for my girls weekend celebrating my friend's 60th birthday. The cake was not only elegant & beautiful, it was extremely delicious, moist, bright & refreshing. Can't thank you enough Christine for personally making this the most perfect cake.

I have lived in Grass Valley for several years and I can't believe I didn't stop in here! It is located in a historic building in downtown Grass Valley ( across the street from the Owl). So cute inside and very welcoming! I saw Christine on Good Day Sacramento ( my fav morning show) and I knew I had been missing out on this place for years! The Croissant was delicious and there was some really delectable treats as well. They also serve lunch and coffee specialties. It's an upscale place using quality ingredients ! Try their soups when in the area! Well done Christine! I will be back!

Cake Bakery & Cafe feels like stepping through the looking glass. I popped in for "just a slice and a drink" and immediately wanted to try everything in the case. My cake was unbelievably moist with frosting that was sweet without being cloying, and my drink was the perfect match. What really sealed it: the team. Everyone was so warm, patient, and genuinely excited to talk flavors and favorites. The space itself is gorgeous--soft colors, pretty details, and that whimsical, storybook vibe that makes you want to linger and celebrate something (even if it's just Tuesday). :) Magical treats, lovely people, dreamy ambiance. I'll be back to work my way through the rest of the menu. If you're even a little bit cake-obsessed (or just need a dose of joy), go.

A German chocolate wedding cake of dreams

If I could give more than five stars, I would. This bakery didn't just make our wedding cake, they poured love into every step of the process. From the owner and staff clear and thoughtful communication to the chef's artistry of the design, I felt completely cared for. And the taste? I still dream about that German chocolate cake. Moist, rich, unforgettable. Every bite felt like it was made with heart. This isn't just baking this is devotion and love you can taste it. I've been a loyal consumer of Cake for many years. It's not only a bakery but a vital piece of the community. 6 days a week you can count on a satisfying latte, a fresh croissant, kind staff and a relaxing atmosphere or a bustling bakery full of joy and excitement. Thank you Cake bakery, for all that you are.

This place is perfect stop for a bite to eat and a cup of tea. Quiche was creamy and melted in your mouth. Tea and coffee in real mugs. Space small but cosy, with indoor and outdoor tables. Service is fast and friendly.

The food is amazing. The Thai pumpkin Soup is super good. You can taste the real fresh ingredients in it with it being homemade. The chai is delicious. Highly reccomend.

Stopped in for lunch. Has a small but satisfying menu if you like to eat on the light side. No fried foods here, no burgers, etc... My Asian chicken salad was big and tasty. The greens were fresh and crunchy. The sliced chicken breast amount was generous. The dressing was bright, piquant without being too sweet, oily nor cloying. Had a cup of lemonade. It was perfect. Nice folks at the counter. Helpful and smiling. Just 4 outdoor tables on the sidewalk with patio umbrellas. I had my 2 Labrador retrievers tagging along so the opportunity to eat out on pedestrian Neal street is appreciated. There are several tables inside for you customers who are canine free. Finished with a Neopolitan 3 way cookie. Big, chewy & delicious. 5 stars on a modest budget. Recommended!

We were visiting from Los Angeles and took a stroll through the promenade when we decided to stop for a snack. We picked up a carrot cake to enjoy later for dessert, and I believe it was the owner who kindly recommended keeping it at room temperature for the best flavor. As we were leaving, she surprised us with a complimentary baguette and warmly thanked us for stopping by, saying she hoped to see us again soon. That thoughtful gesture made our visit even more special. Later that evening, after dinner, we followed her advice and enjoyed the carrot cake at room temperature--it was absolutely delicious! Our only regret? Not ordering more. Now we know to stock up for our travels next time. Beyond the incredible treats, we loved the décor, the inviting atmosphere, and the friendliness of the staff. We can't wait to return!

I've seen this place for a long time and I'm glad that I stopped in. It was a sunny day and a lovely time to be out on grass Valley walking mall. The owner was very kind and brought out the coffee as I am disabled and I will not be able to carry a cup Being grass Valley a couple of friends wondered by and they were going to have lunch there so they bought me some food and we had an hour and a half of a good conversation I will be back. It was wonderful.

Service was pretty fast I got a tiramisu slice. It was tasty but a tad bit too sweet. Aesthetically pleasing and probably will go back.

Sounded good so we got it, a 16oz for the afternoon 'pick-me-up'. A bit on the sweet side it nonetheless hit the spot for a coffee. They have a wide array of tea options too. The service was friendly and very good. The coffee came to the red pickup counter in good time. There are lots of cozy cafe type seating both inside and out. The choice of muffins, baked goods, or other snacks were slim just because it was late, but undoubtedly good too. If in Grass Valley, try it.

We ordered two dishes to share and this one didn't fit the bill as a shareable item. For the disappointment we had in the miso it was totally made up by the vegan kale cesar salad. It was a large bowl of yum! Hearty serving of well dressed kale. The Cesar dressing delicious! Slices of cucumber, avocado and chick peas and a beautiful thick slice of bread on top. It was so filling we easily shared it and filled us up. It was $15 only a dollar more than miso broth bowl. It's was so worth every penny. The service was friendly and fast. The menu has some great Mexican-inspired options too, like Huevos Rancheros and frittatas. The morning was a bit of a free-for-all, though. Even with a 'Wait to be Seated' sign, the locals just grabbed menus and sat wherever they wanted, so we did the same. Service was definitely on the slow side--at one point, one of the locals actually marched into the kitchen to demand her food, complaining she'd been waiting over an hour for some eggs! On the bright side, my orange juice ($3.66) was amazing and tasted freshly squeezed. Unfortunately, I waited about 40 minutes for my house salad ($13.07), and while the orange and avocado slices looked great, the salad itself was a soggy mess by the time it arrived. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ It's a charming spot, but between the long wait and the food quality, it was a bit of a mixed experience.

We both decided on sandwiches, although they do have an array of burgers, salads, soups, etc. I got the Andouille sausage sandwich that came on a Hoggie type bun and Ed had the chicken pesto on a burger bun. For the side we both upped the price for garlic fries for me and sweet potato fries for him. My sandwich was delicious with lots of meat and melted cheese. It was a bit messy and greasy to eat, but that's part of parcel of this type of meat sandwich. It was quite filling and the fries were tasty, and came with a Ranch dipping sauce. Ed seemed content wirh his choice as well. They don't seem to carry or push any desserts, which is fine with us as we rarely get it. This is a great little place and I would definitely go back.

I am happy to avoid businesses with anti-dog policies if they are posted (was not). And, by law, a business has to ask you if it's a service animal before asking you to leave. Regardless, I would have been happy to leave with my already purchased product, but the woman kept screaming while I was waiting for them to hand me my pastry. I was so embarrassed and angry with her attitude, I spilled my coffee on the sidewalk outside as I was trying to get away from her. There are service-oriented ways to address this type of situation - yelling at your customers is not one. Especially followed by a snide "have the day you deserve" as I was leaving. I will never return and will discourage others. Ftr, went to Flour Garden and after hearing the story, they gave me a discount on my replacement latte. The pastry sucked, by the way - overdone on the outside, claggy on the inside and no flavor.
