They were very busy, given the holiday weekend so it took almost 15 minutes by the way. When they finally called the drinks out, they had only made mine a dirty chai, so they had to add espresso to hers. Fine. I was excited to drink it but both my friend and I took a sip and made the same exact disgusted face. There was nothing redeeming about the drink, and it tasted like chalk. The stars for this place were for the scone, which was delicious. That said, the chai was awful and I wouldn't recommend.

That isn't often easy as many close in the early afternoon, usually not open after 3pm. I was delighted to find Caroline's open to 5:30. YES! It's a delightful and charming shop off the beaten trail of touristy places in downtown Grass Valley. The array of coffee products was very satisfying and they highlighted a special Pistachio Latte! Sounded good so we got it, a 16oz for the afternoon 'pick-me-up'. A bit on the sweet side it nonetheless hit the spot for a coffee. They have a wide array of tea options too. The service was friendly and very good. The coffee came to the red pickup counter in good time. There are lots of cozy cafe type seating both inside and out. The choice of muffins, baked goods, or other snacks were slim just because it was late, but undoubtedly good too. If in Grass Valley, try it.

All was going fine, and we were happily bopping to the music while my pastry was being heated, but my pup yelped at a clearly non-dog person and the manager (?) came out screaming at me "THAT DOG CANNOT BE IN HERE!!" I am happy to avoid businesses with anti-dog policies if they are posted (was not). And, by law, a business has to ask you if it's a service animal before asking you to leave. Regardless, I would have been happy to leave with my already purchased product, but the woman kept screaming while I was waiting for them to hand me my pastry. I was so embarrassed and angry with her attitude, I spilled my coffee on the sidewalk outside as I was trying to get away from her. There are service-oriented ways to address this type of situation - yelling at your customers is not one. Especially followed by a snide "have the day you deserve" as I was leaving. I will never return and will discourage others. Ftr, went to Flour Garden and after hearing the story, they gave me a discount on my replacement latte. The pastry sucked, by the way - overdone on the outside, claggy on the inside and no flavor.

The new arrangement has the feng shui of a bachelor pad. Get into the restroom feels like an imposition into someone's private space. This morning, I stood there for five minutes with no communication and finally walked out to a different café. We want this place to survive, but it I feel like I am going more out of goodwill than a quality experience. First off I do not frequent higher end restaurants very often. I wanted to take my girlfriend out…read morefor a nice dinner on my birthday, so we invited my brother and his wife. I made reservations for 4 of us for a Friday night at 5:00. We were seated in the dining area on time, however because of the time of day the sunshine that was reflected off the building across the street through the window was absolutely blinding. We moved a table back but there was no difference. I let our guests sit in the seats that were not facing this terrible reflection and just dealt with it myself. We should have actually moved completely but didn't want to make a big deal about it. This issue could be easily fixed with blinds (duh) So we ordered our food. Women ordered the ball steak (which is sirloin) my brother ordered fish and I ordered the filet. Well the ball steaks were absolutely horrible (tough as shoe leather) fish (salmon) was ok and filet was also good but undercooked plus they forgot my mashed potatoes. ($69 for a 8oz filet which was probably more like 6 oz ) you would expect much better. We pointed that out (which is quite unbelievable they forgot the potatoes) they eventually brought them on a separate plate ( they were just warm). The butter was still pretty much frozen in the little tin cup that they serve it in. So we pointed out the two ball steaks were like leather. Both of the women have ordered those before and they have been good, well not this time. For the kind of money you spend for these meals, it really is sad. They did remove the two steak dinners from the bill but that does not make it all good in my opinion. Oh yeah and 5 slices of tomato's with cheese on top ( that were not ripe ) at $18 are you serious) For one of the top restaurants in this area, they completely failed. IWaitress was very nice and apologized (like they should) but unfortunately we won't be going back.
