Stopped by South Pine Cafe around 11am on a Thursday and it was relatively busy. There is street parking and there is a parking lot across the street as well. I would assume on busier days like the weekend, parking would be pretty difficult. We were sat right away. It smelled so good in there from the fresh squeezed orange juice. There are plenty of tables and bar seating. My mom ordered the portabella scramble and I ordered a half order of the portabella Benedict. We both really liked what we ordered. The potatoes were lacking a little bit of flavor, but salt helped. Portions were good-sized for the price. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. We will be back if we are in the area. read more

Took a friend out for brunch for a birthday. I cannot express enough how much of an intricate part of my weekend routine breakfast/brunch are. Well, this place delivered nothing short of an excellent experience! They were pretty busy, so we sat the bar. The service was great, fast and nothing short of amazing! Got to sample their beverage menu and have one of my favorite eggs Benedict dishes... hot off the grill, mouthwatering and delicious. The setting and atmosphere was pretty chill and relaxed, with some friendly neighbors around. This spot is perfect for a weekend, breakfast or brunch. My friends and I stopped here on Sunday before we left town after a fun weekend in Nevada city and it is a must visit! We were very hungry by the time we sat down due to the long, wait, but it was well worth it. However, that are hunger. I forgot to take very good food pictures. The kitchen and historic charm of the decor hides a quite spacious restaurant that is decorated with historic furnishings, and adorable crayon pictures colored by local children. The menu is varied and has something for everyone. I tried the potato pancakes, which are hashbrowns mixed with cheese and garlic and onions on top with pesto sauce and eggs, and I must say that they were a delightful surprise, crispy and savory and worth every bite. My friends ordered the tofu breakfast burrito at Cuevo rancheros along with the bacon and egg breakfast at all said they were. We chose to share a three person mimosa, which includes a bottle of champagne and juice of your choice to accompany, and it was just perfect for our group. Our survey Anna was very busy, but made sure to check on us after serving the food and made sure that the food was served our liking and responded to every request we had. I would definitely plan on waiting in line on the weekends. They have a self-service waiting list and they will call you - inside or outside- when your table is ready. We had been here before in December and I forgot to post a review. When we came that time, we came for breakfast and we enjoyed it, so we decided to stop in for lunch. Unfortunately, none of our food was very good this time. My husband got the Jamaican jerk burrito and it was too spicy, not necessarily hot spicy, but overly seasoned with spices. My husband said you couldn't taste anything else aside from all the spices. My lobster melt was very dry. Something of note-- they don't have ranch dressing. Our second visit here & the four of us enjoyed our breakfast. Busy place on a Sunday morning and about a 20 minute wait. Started with a Cappuccino & a Mocoa,both were hot, delicious and not overly sweet. I had the full order of Lobster Eggs Benedict. Eggs cooked as ordered, generous amount of lobster, Jalapeno holidase, avocado ,crunchy well seasoned country potatoes, filling rich and satisfying, dusted off the whole thing. Mrs D had the Corn Cakes, substituted chicken sausage for the hot links with eggs over easy. The Corn Cakes were similar to potato Pan cakes, slightly garlicy with a spicy aioli sauce. Visited with my friends November 21st. It is located in downtown Grass Valley ( look for the big two story pink building on the corner). This place is Always busy! I had to see the dentist in a bit so just had an egg and toast. It was good! Waitresses are hustling! My friends stayed longer as I had to get to my appointment and they were being entertained by their two kids ( alittle hyper..lol ). It's a very popular spot with a funky but cool atmosphere. Everyone seemed happy and enjoying their food! Note: they get really busy and you need to sign in when you get there. Bring your patience when waiting for your food! They have a bar seating as well. My husband and I just moved up here from SF and have been exploring the new dining spots around the area. Ordered the lobster benedict as it appeared to be one of their signature dishes. Sadly, it was pretty disappointing. The hollandaise tasted of vinegar and mustard. Neither of which was mentioned on the menu which I find unusual because a classic hollandaise has neither of those ingredients. I don't mind if the Chef wants to make his own interpretation of hollandaise, but at least mention that it is not the same as a traditional version. The menu said, "jalapeño hollandaise." I was all for it, but the taste was overpowering with Dijon and vinegar. My husband is a classically trained Chef and I have managed Michelin star restaurants. We did not want to complain but did want to give our honest feedback. We realize that restaurants operate on razor thin margins but at this moment, our server had an opportunity to make it right and chose not to acknowledge our concern. Cute place with great fresh food. Excellent service (fast and friendly). I had the avocado toast with over medium eggs which were cooked perfectly and not oily at all. This is a terrific brunch spot as long as you're not in a hurry. There is typically a pretty long wait for a table and it can be quite awhile between ordering and seeing the food on the table. That said, I would recommend it every time, as long as you have time to relax and enjoy. The portions are large and the menu has options, but not so many as to make it a chore to choose. It's a couple of blocks off of the main drag, so parking can be a little easier and then provide an easy stroll to shops. The Benedict's are great, the French toast is pretty epic. So much waiting! We came in as a party of two and we waiting around 40 minutes for a table. Once we were seated they took our order, then we waiting about an hour for our food. The place was very very loud and small and you could barely hear yourself think. They messed up our order and completely forgot to get our drinks. Its menu is loaded with some out-of-the-ordinary breakfast specialities that include the two dishes we had, the Blackstone Benedict and Potato Pancakes. We were looking for a place for lunch in Grass Valley. Checked YELP and found this jewel. About a block off of the Main Street, so we were able to easily find parking. Even though they were busy, they seated us pretty quickly. Got menus and water right away. Very different and eclectic menu. Everything sounded delicious. I had a Brie mushroom, pesto, grilled cheese on sourdough and my husband had their special corn cakes. Everything was just delicious. Really cute cafe. Reminded us of old time cafes. Wow oh wow! This place is a hidden gem! The food was flavorful and seasoned to perfection. We ordered a side of gravy without any biscuits and it was so tasty. We decided to stop on the way to Reno and will definitely be making this place a consistent pitstop on the way. Definitely worth the little detour off the interstate. We had a fun night in Nevada City and stopped here on our way home. One big bonus was parking. It was hard parking a large vehicle anywhere in Nevada City in the surrounding areas. The coffee could be a bit stronger for liking but it is what is. Keep pouring it and I'm not mad about it. The carnitas eggs Benedict was tasty and I went with the hash browns on the side. The hash browns win for me and it's because they were not extra oily. Crispy on the outside and yummy. The Hollandaise sauce was creamy and perfect. The pancakes and eggs hit the spot and we took a little bacon out to our patiently awaiting pooch and he approved so thumbs up there. It's your regular breakfast spot although there was a bar towards the back with a big screen which is probably nice when there is a game on etc. I'm giving a 5/5 because it's what you expect when looking for a good breakfast. At 12:30 on a sunny, Sunday afternoon today, there was no wait and a few empty tables. A few years ago, you'd be looking at an hour wait, but the quality of the food has declined. The drinks we ordered were good, but our food took quite awhile, and when finally served, it was at room temperature. Some items were charred (potatoes, sausage), others just bland.
