Hello,Im Loretta Davis,aka,Grannie!Spril2nd was my 92 birthday.[[HIGHLIGHT]]This place is so nice![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]Our waitress wasNella! She was very nice, and took our order.I told her it was my birthday, and I'm 92!She was surprised, and I didn't look it, and she smiled. She brought it to us .She came by a couple times, asked us if we were ok.After we finished, she brought me a Banana cream pie and sang HAPPY Birthday so me with an angelic voice! It was a lovely way to end my birthday![[HIGHLIGHT]]I love this place !The best friendly place to visit ,relax, and enjoy ever![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I've arrived at Lumberjacks, in Grass Valley, to enjoy one of the best breakfasts in the Sierra Nevada foothills.
    Eric R.

Lumberjacks is a small chain of eight restaurants, with seven of them located in Northern California, and a lone outpost located in Las Vegas. The name fits the restaurant, as the generous portions will keep a lumberjack, along with a football linebacker, full and happy. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Can you say "rustic?" ... rustic is the word for the decor of the restaurant, as the decor revolves around a lumberjack theme.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The decor is rustic, the cuisine is "Diner Americana," but [[HIGHLIGHT]]the dining room is inviting, clean and comfortable.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The dining room carries out the rustic, lumberjack theme, as it's decorated with faux logs and wood paneling, which enhances the atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Period photos, along with state-of-the-art video monitors decorate the walls.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Love it!! From the "Weekday Specials" menu, I went with a New York steak, hashbrown potatoes, fried eggs, sourdough toast, and an optional side of breakfast. Yowza!!! My last breakfast of 2024 turned out to be one of the best breakfasts that I'd the pleasure to enjoy during the entire year. Thanks to Ashley, Lindsay and the friendly and talented staff at Lumberjacks, located in Grass Valley. The "Weekday Specials" aren't listed on the menu, nor are they posted on a chalk board, and they're offered to you by your server, as you're greeted at your table. Yes, I looked over the menu, but a New York steak breakfast, cooked to order, sounded out like a great way to say adios to 2024. As per my order, my steak arrived cooked medium rare, complete with attractive grill marks. As explained by my server, the steak was "breakfast sized" around 6-oz or so... but size didn't matter, as this steak was not only attractive to look at, but it was seasoned, juicy, tender and simply delicious. Lumberjacks is a well kept secret for gold country dining, as they make a superior breakfast steak! My side of choice was hashbrown potatoes, and I made a superior choice, as these hashbrowns were some of the best I've ever enjoyed in Nevada County dining! The potatoes were shredded - naturally - and fried to a perfect golden brown, crispy on the outside, and tender on the inside, which made for some of the most perfect hashbrowns that you could ever imagine. The two eggs were fried as per my order, sunnyside up, which works well with hashbrown potatoes. Two slices of sourdough toast were perfectly toasted, buttered, and worked with the breakfast. The optional side of breakfast gravy really added "the period to the sentence," as it was thick, creamy, with chunky sausage and simply delicious. I alternated between dipping bits of steak and potato into the gravy... whatever the case, it made for an amazing add-on to enhance this superior breakfast. Happy New Year... well... almost, but the check for this amazing breakfast came to... get this... $12.79! That's right... steak, eggs, and an optional side of gravy. I was dazzled, amazed and shocked... as I expected well on the high side of $20.00. My dining experience on this last day of 2024 was simply amazing! Lindsay and Ashley treated my like family, and I enjoyed a "New York Steak of the Century" breakfast, to "ace out" the year 2024, which has been a fantastic year for Gold Country Dining. Nevada County dining at the finest... Lumberjacks... located in Grass Valley, CA! As the menu reads... "Where the big boys eat..." And... if I may add... it's FIVE STAR DINING!!!!

A bit kitschy in the decor but pleasant, spacious and very nice. The service was extraordinarily friendly, attentive and helpful. We felt like family were waiting on us. As we got menus right away there's a good variety of choices. Since the essence of the restaurant is Maltese I was particularly intrigued as I know nothing of that cuisine. We started with a cup of the soup of the day, a Tuscan bean soup, that was delightful. It was full of beans and fresh vegetables in a hearty soup base. Although a few choices in the salads and sandwiches sounded appealing I instead chose the Lamb Maltese pasta. On a bed of farfalle (bowtie) pasta it comes with lamb pieces and a slightly spicy red sauce. All very delicious and I found it to be a very tasty dish. The only downside was the lamb chunks were not the usual, long and oddly sized, plus very chewy. Overall it didn't really diminish the dish. While we all were quite content and full our server brought out an incredible array of amazing looking desserts that would wow anyone. Unfortunately there just wasn't an appetite left for it. However, I will remember that for next time. I will definitely go back to try other things. This is a wonderful place for a pleasant meal.

The service was quick, we were seated in a timely manner and the food was so good! We sat closer to the bar and our server was on top of it! We ordered and had our food right away not even a 20 minute wait! We got the pulled pork sandwich, recommended by our server, the western burger, and the Mac and cheese for our little! I made reservations for 4 of us for a Friday night at 5:00. We were seated in the dining area on time, however because of the time of day the sunshine that was reflected off the building across the street through the window was absolutely blinding. We moved a table back but there was no difference. I let our guests sit in the seats that were not facing this terrible reflection and just dealt with it myself. We should have actually moved completely but didn't want to make a big deal about it. This issue could be easily fixed with blinds (duh) So we ordered our food. Women ordered the ball steak (which is sirloin) my brother ordered fish and I ordered the filet. Well the ball steaks were absolutely horrible (tough as shoe leather) fish (salmon) was ok and filet was also good but undercooked plus they forgot my mashed potatoes. ($69 for a 8oz filet which was probably more like 6 oz ) you would expect much better. We pointed that out (which is quite unbelievable they forgot the potatoes) they eventually brought them on a separate plate ( they were just warm). The butter was still pretty much frozen in the little tin cup that they serve it in. So we pointed out the two ball steaks were like leather. Both of the women have ordered those before and they have been good, well not this time. For the kind of money you spend for these meals, it really is sad. They did remove the two steak dinners from the bill but that does not make it all good in my opinion. Oh yeah and 5 slices of tomato's with cheese on top ( that were not ripe ) at $18 are you serious) For one of the top restaurants in this area, they completely failed. IWaitress was very nice and apologized (like they should) but unfortunately we won't be going back.

The heat lamps were on in the enclosed area out front and they have cushions for the wrought iron chains and a shelf of blankets for customers to use. Complimentary Chilean bread rolls brought to the table right away with garlic herb butter, salsa verde sauce (chimicuri like) so good, made the old fashioned way with pork fat. They are are so professional and accommodating, plus attentive. They are the best. Even though it was early brunch I decided to try a Bloody Mary. It was disappointing. Tasting watered down it had absolutely no liquor punch at all, just a watery drink without much tomato juice. I'm always amazed to look over the 100+ omelet items on the menu but decided on a Cajun Benedict instead. It comes with long sliced sausage (Andouille?) between the eggs and muffin. Overall, it wasn't that spicy so I covered it with hot sauce, Cajun country Tabasco. The poached eggs and sauce were good, but that's where it ended. The muffins were way too small for the dish and got lost in the other stuff. I didn't find the sausage to be all that flavorful either, and definitely not spicy. I got it with hash browns which weren't anything special. Very ordinary. I may have hit an off day but I left feeling very underwhelmed. Fortunately the service and ambiance overshadowed the food by a mile. Perhaps next time I need to try an omelet!
