Sad to report my husband and I just had a terrible experience today at LR. I ordered the Southwest Chicken Salad. There are several "summer salads" and at a guess (??) the waitress input the wrong item in her handheld. I have never, and would never, order a CHinese Chicken Salad but that's what she served me and she kept claiming "it's what you ordered". When I told her I would never have ordered that - she kept repeating " You ordered the "oriental chicken salad". She was rude. She was condescending. I told her I do not even use the word "Oriental" and she (literally ) sneered and said "I bet". Seriously?? I did not send it back because frankly - I was hungry. I spoke to the cashier/hostess about needing to better train wait staff (This waitress did not repeat the order back to us - which I found odd) especially given they have several different ones. Lumberjacks offers your standard diner meal options, but honestly I'd say you're better off elsewhere. The food isn't good, but edible. Prices do seem pretty high for the style and quality of food, and the portions are smaller than most chain american establishments. The food was alright. Nothing to write home about, but tasted fine. Two in my party ordered a breakfasts which were pretty good, but the toast took forever and we were done eating by the time they got it. The salad bar is pretty disappointing and I definitely don't recommend it unless it's included in your meal. Their choices are really limited and you can only go once (and it's like $8? which seems really high to me). The soup was bland and barely warm. Again, soup was a tiny little bowl and definitely not worth the money. My sandwich was fine. Personally, I felt that the service was slow and fairly incompetent. They had no idea which tables had ordered what, and never brought us enough silverware or napkins despite several asks. Ambiance: reminds me a lot of black bear diner chains. A good diner should identify its best qualities, in my opinion, as 1. Easy to reach 2. Affordable 3. Fast and respectful service 4. A hearty menu 5. Clean A great diner has all these qualities, plus is family run. That's what I would classify this as, a great diner. I'm a supporter of family run businesses, because you get to see your money go in the hands of people who are actually working day and night to make sure you leave their establishment feeling like you made the right decision to stop there. This diner treats everyone the same. Meme era of the staff are actually owners of the business, but there are no egos here and everyone plays the role that's needed. Since this place went under new management, it has redone a lot of the interior, exterior, decor and brought in a lounge atmosphere by providing TV's with live game streams and free WiFi for all customers. The food is exactly what you expect when you read the menu. Only thing I'd say is that portion sizes are a bit on the larger side, but the food quality is great. I'm sure if you're reading this you're trying to compare it to Denny's or iHop or how it may stack against that. I can honestly say this particular Lumberjack's is a better alternative than either of those. Give it a shot, try something and support your local business! If you're not sure where to eat, having one of those nights you don't feel like cooking, or thinking where you'll watch your sports stop here! I have felt prompted for a while to submit a review for our local Lumberjacks, but more recently was encouraged to do so by visiting another Lumberjacks while on vacation. Now I know how well treated, spoiled and lucky to have the staff at our local restaurant! The serving team at Grass Valley is ALWAYS smiling, happy, helpful! They remember names, favorite orders and favorite places to sit! The service is alway fast and the food is consistently great! No matter what we order! We love this place! Always amazing service and great food! It's almost a must to stop in at the Nevada Cit Lumberjacks every time we pass through... why? Because the servers here are always pleasant and attentive. The food is always cooked and served just the way we like it every time. My burger today (I'm the weirdo with the creamer cups on my eyes!) was sooo good. One of the best I've ever had no joke. We sent special thanks to the chef because all three of us who got burgers were feeling the same love! So YEA! Awesome food and experience and always a very positive atmosphere! Place was somewhat packed on a Saturday. Service was not so good. We have 3 different servers and got our lunch after an hour. Food was so-so at best IMO. I was so hungry at that point tho, maybe that made the food better. read more

This restaurant is going downhill in a hurry. Getting way too expensive for the portion size you get and the service we received was horrible. Our waitress "Tanya" could care less about our experience while she took her time to go outside and smoke- not to mention did not immediately wash her hands upon her return. High Prices for food that you can easily make at home. It was bland and not much on the huge plates. Not even garnish to make it look nice. I got the omelet and it only had tiny chunks of ham in it. It was diced super small along with the chunks of fat. I asked for the pancake (pumpkin) add on for $1.99. Instead she told me I could exchange for the toast for only $1.50. No way but since I nodded that's what I got. So now I had little to eat, two egg omelet (seemed like one) fruit (hard to chew, not ripe) and one medium pumpkin pancake. I was hungry again in and hour. I still don't get how this worked as I should have had the full breakfast plus the added pancake for an extra $1.99. Keep in mind, the cost of my lack luster breakfast would have been $16. It was worth maybe $7.99 total. I went out of my way to eat here and will never go back. We could have eaten at other local places with 5 stars but we liked the name here and figured with that name they served a plate full. Well, it's a big plate half empty. And to top it off, my shoes were sticking to the floor walking through the restaurant. The can do way better. Don't eat here unless all the other places are closed. read more

Found this spot while planning a motorcycle ride up to Grass Valley. We were seated quickly. Due to Covid they had outdoor seating only. The staff was great, very friendly and attentive. We go on vacation every few years to Grass Valley and this WAS our favorite place for breakfast. We ordered breakfast, one with poached eggs. The waitress said scrambled eggs twice which we corrected. The breakfast came with scrambled eggs. I was almost finished with my breakfast before we could flag down the waitress to fix the order. She seemed annoyed that we asked to remake the breakfast since it was cold by that time. Really didn't say any apology for the screw up! She said she needed more coffee. No store hours posted on any doors. The only hours are posted on the Lumberjack's Grass Valley website, ( 7:00 am - 8:00 pm every day). Their hours are actually 7:30 am - 8:00 pm. When I called and spoke to a lady there mentioning the website posted hours, her response was that she doesn't have access to the website. Wrong answer. Apologize and FIX THE WEBSITE. The food was really good. However, the service on a Sunday morning was awful. We waited over 45 minutes for our breakfast. When they brought the coffee they didn't bring or offer creamer. We waited for about 15 minutes before we could get a waitress. When the food came out the same thing happened for ketchup. They were very busy and it looked like they were short staffed. Huge portions. The poached eggs were overdone, but that it is the danger of delivery food. If you have ever wondered if a piece of cake can be worth nearly 15 bucks try the chocolate cake here. The restaurant was about half full; usually this means you should get your food quickly, but that wasn't the case. We ordered fish and chips. The fish was supposed to be cod. I took my friend here to grab a bite where we could sit down inside. Ana, our server went the xtra xtra mile to make sure we were happy. She was very attentive and had a wonderful personality and was very knowledgeable about their menu. I ordered the Lumber Jack 1 pound burger.
