Cousin Jack pasty. Mostly potatoes and a touch of steak and very under seasoned. Dough was quite raw. Quite disappointed.
Jasmine S.

Was excited to hear that a new pasty place had opened in the old location for cousin Jacks. I read in reviews that they were different than Jacks but tasty. Unfortunately, our experience was not great. As far as customer service goes, the guys running the place seemed really busy and haphazardly asked for our order. When I mentioned something about Cousin Jack's, they made a point of saying here that they were definitely different. Indeed, they are. We ordered two cousin jacks, one chicken, and one ham and cheese. The cousin jacks pasty was dry with mostly big chunks of potatoes, some skirt steak and that's about it. It was very under seasoned, and even after vinegar and salt it still lacked the flavor I was hoping for. The chicken was flavorful with a heavy mushroom flavor. The ham and cheese was good, but my son said he wished it had more ham as it was mostly potatoes. All three had pockets of raw dough. As somebody who grew up in grass Valley, and had plenty of pasties, growing up from Cousin, Jack's, Marshalls, or way back in the day double bees, I was sad that this was my experience, as I always like to grab one when I visit the area. Maybe we happened to get a bad batch. I hope so. Lastly, for four pasties we payed $62. Quite a hefty price for a lot of potatoes. I usually only leave positive reviews but wanted to provide some honest feedback for those who are used to traditional pasties in the area.

Stumbled onto goodness! Hearty meat filled pastry shop (they do have a veggie option). The menu is small but the portion and tasty are big! Love the Ham and Cheese. The Pulled Pork and Chicken will be devoured by tomorrow. The guys in the shop were very friendly and helpful. Shop seems to be very popular for walk in and pick up. There is some seating outside. The corner location and across the street from a parking lot, this is an easy place to visit. And if you are near by, you should often.

Last bites!

Dropped in during the rain yesterday and completely enjoyed the classic pasty. As a youpper when you know you know! Ian and Lisa.

Love at first bite! We have been driving up to Grass Valley from Marysville to get these amazing pasties since they opened! From the crust, to the fillings, they are amazingly delicious! We have tried almost every pasty that they make and we have never been disappointed! Each pasty is big enough for two people, (or one person with a huge appetite!) and they really are worth every dollar that they cost! The last time I was there, I bought a dozen of them, putting several in my freezer, to thaw and reheat in my air fryer toaster oven; they reheat very well. We haven't bought any pasties anywhere else since Grass Valley Pasty Co opened, as they are "The World's Greatest Pasties!"

This is a very small spot with no seating inside or out -but don't sleep on the pasties! They are so good - freshly made and they get the filling to crust ration perfectly. The fillings are well seasoned and just juicy enough but don't make the crust soggy. They guys who work there are usually making pasties as you order so you can see how the magic happens.

Pasties: Ham & Cheese, Cousin Jacks & Pulled Pork. Cousin Jacks: Traditional Cornish Recipe. Skirt steak, potatoes, onions, and parsley.

Amazing pasties. Hot, fresh, hearty food. The spot down the street doesn't even BEGIN to compare.

Our family has been making pastys for many years and Grass Vally Pasty is the best. Boy wish they were closer to Lincoln.

We called right away, and while the employee apologized and admitted it was their mistake, the only solution offered was to "take it off the bill." That doesn't really help when you've already driven 30 minutes home and now have an incomplete meal. Mistakes happen, but how they're handled matters. Offering a refund doesn't fix the inconvenience, the time lost, or the fact that part of our dinner was missing. A better effort to make it right would have gone a long way. We didn't just lose money...We lost time, convenience, and part of your meal. A manager should have gotten on the phone and said something like, 'I'm really sorry, we messed up. Let me fix this for you.' A sincere effort to problem-solve, not just a refund. Really hoping more attention is paid to orders moving forward.

Here are my / our experiences and observations: 1. After trying just about everything on the breakfast/lunch menu, I have yet to had a bad meal. The food is always done just right and the flavors excellent. 2. The service is amazing; when your not looking the coffee mug, water or cold beverage glass is always kept full. Often the waitress will come around to check if all is okay. The waitresses are very well dressed and groomed with personalities to match. 3. The restaurant is very clean with a touch of home environment. What are my favorite meals: Breakfast: Their "Waffle (plain or Belgian), eggs (cooked to your liking), bacon or sausage (patties or links) combo" is awesome. Lunch: They are known for their burgers, fry's and onion rings - the best. The same can be said for their Patty Melt and French Dip sandwiches. Awe heck, all the sandwiches are GREAT! They offer a couple of various flavors of soups daily, all very good, especially their Lobster Bisque when available! YOU KNOW A PLACE HAS TO BE GOOD BY CHECKING OUT THEIR PARKING LOT. From 7:00 am until 1:00 pm the lot is usually full, however their seems to be a good turnover. WAIT FOR A SPACE TO BECOME AVAILABLE, YOU WON'T REGRET IT !!! PS: No, I am not an owner or am I being paid to give this review. I am speaking for myself and many other of my acquaintances.

After our table mates were served we sat for almost 45 minutes before we were notified they lost our order AND the special we order had sold out. Yet, even after they told us they were out of chicken they continued to serve the special to the table next to us. After we selected something else from the menu another 20 minutes passed before we were served. The CA Cobb salad was about as big as a side plate and hardly any chicken and the hamburger was overcooked and WAY over seasoned. 2 hours from walking in the door to getting served. They tried to make amends by comping our meal..I understand restaurants can run out of food but when you "run out" you serve the people who put their order in 30 minutes before the latecomers are served. The event was good but there is EXTREMELY limited parking. The interior was hot as it didn't seem like the AC was working at first. Bottom line- it's nice to support small businesses but this one needs some serious schooling in restaurant management.

We decided to try their beet hummus platter which came with lots of delicious and fresh toppings along with some herbaceous focaccia bread. It was one of the best appetizers I have had in a long time. We also ordered the Amaretto Bread Pudding which I guess was a seasonal item at the time- in my opinion, it should be on the menu full-time. It really was that good! Unlike anything I've ever had before, and soaked in that lovely almond flavor with moist and buttery bread pudding. I highly recommend coming here, even if it's just for some small plates!!

This is a fun balance of higher end dining and multi regional creativity that we really enjoyed. They have a super curated wine list, and we got a Pinot Noir from Santa Maria Valley that was excellent. The short rib poutine was SO amazing and I loved my duck. Ambiance: Great, cozy vibe with lot of brick. Bustling but not too loud. We were kind of tucked at a table without a ton of room around it, so that was a little awkward to wiggle into. But overall, if you're in Nevada City, this is definitely where you want to go for a special dinner!
