Humpty Dumpty remains my favorite takeaway but this time I eschewed the drive-in and had the whole diner experience. I had some time to fill while my windshield was being replaced nearby and I was able to have lunch at a leisurely pace without feeling rushed. The menu is fairly traditional, but much more extensive inside. The prices are excellent for the quality and portions. I had fish & chips, which was served with salad and fries and a roll and butter--3 pieces of fish and all this for, like, $16.95! Th fish as a little greasy this time around, but otherwise, still one of my favorite places for comfort food.

Never have I ever seen a drive through diner! I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and appreciated the convenience of the drive through. I ordered the french toast meal, which was delectable. The french toast was eggy and warm and sweet. I appreciated the accompaniments, like "maple" syrup, butter, ample napkins and utensils. I also appreciated the ample coffee and frapuccino options, with an array of milk alternatives available also. Service was super polite. I will be dreaming of that french toast for a little while longer!

Normally I don't get the corned beef hash with eggs but thought i would try something from my regular. It was crispy and eggs were cooked perfect... but I will go back to my regular. Service is always nice and friendly. Even if there is a wait at the door it goes pretty quick. It's a place that anytime I go to Grass Valley it's where I will go before I hit the road to head home. Place has lots of seating, and even an upstairs. Can get a lil loud but you can still hold a conversation without yelling.

Humpty's original breakfast and grilled turkey sandwich with a side of cottage cheese

After a long morning of driving up to Grass Valley, someone recommended this restaurant to us saying that it was the best and I think it's fair to say I did not disappoint! We were immediately seated and our orders were taken right away! It was a very homey, small town breakfast joint that was very lovely. My boyfriend ordered the Humpty's breakfast while I ordered the grilled turkey sandwich with a side of cottage cheese. They were DELICIOUS! Probably the best turkey sandwich I have ever had! It was loaded with turkey and the bread was very buttery and crispy. My boyfriend finished his plate also! This is a must if you're in the area!

Everyone is super friendly, and it seems to be a very popular restaurant with reasonable prices. However, I was disappointed with my meal of two eggs, turkey bacon, and hash browns, as everything lacked flavor. In contrast, my husband and friends practically licked their plates clean. Overall, I'll give this restaurant four stars.

    Turkey Burger with coleslaw

YUM!! Food came out fast!! As a white woman its in my blood to love coleslaw LOL! Their coleslaw is really good!!! Not a big fan of the raisins but i knoe most do! I got a Turkey Burger and a banana milkshake and the milkshake was YUMMMYYY! Fiancé got the steak sandwich and said it was amazing! Ive been going here for years and will definitely return!

Always delicious. Wish they were open for dinner too! Grew up on this food and it's always been good!

My brother moved to Nevada County a few years ago so he's constantly on the lookout for places to check out. During my most recent visit, he recommended we grab breakfast at Humpty Dumpty before heading home. There was a line when we arrived but we were seated within 5 minutes. All of the cooks, hosts, and servers are constantly moving... and you'll notice all of the servers are female, good looking, and all wearing tight black clothes. I'm sure the owner did this on purpose. Regardless, they were all working hard tending to multiple tables, going up and down the stairs, etc. Menu has everything and anything you would want from a classic diner; breakfast, lunch, salad, drinks, ice cream, etc. I was torn between breakfast or a burger.... I ended up getting a bacon cheeseburger, cause why not. My burger was cooked a little over (well done), but it was exactly what I had in mind. A no frills type of cheeseburger and didn't try too hard. Simply a basic but flavorful bacon cheeseburger and the fries were hot, thick and crunchy! My brother and a friend ordered Humpty's Favorite; 2 eggs, bacon or sausage, hashbrowns or home fries + 2 pancakes! Servers kept the coffee flowing so my glass was rarely empty. All in all, solid spot.

I've been to Humpty Dumpty Kitchen a couple of times now. The first time, I had a patty melt that was really yummy -- classic diner comfort food done right. This time I decided to try breakfast and ordered the mini breakfast with eggs, bacon, and blueberry pancakes. The pancakes weren't my favorite, but everything else was tasty and fresh. What really stands out here is the service -- everyone is so kind and attentive, and it feels like a real local spot. Even though breakfast wasn't my top pick, I'd definitely come back to try other things on the menu!

Humpty Dumpty sat in a town (Grass Valley Ca) Humpty Dumpty had great food (local diner everything homemade) All the local folk and all the visitors could not stop talking about what Humpty Dumpty was all about (I would never have known about this place if not for my Uber driver) I didn't do the historical research of this Establishment. Only thing I know is they renovated the property in the early 2010's. The other thing I know is they were around as a local diner for at least 60 years. They have tables and dining facilities on the 2nd floor. Food is your local diner does well. They make their own hollandaise sauce for their Eggs Benedict. Waffle and pancake batter home made. Free coffee refills and you would need to ask for water as water is brought to you on request. Service is your local diner does well. While I'm sure each server has their own area, I noticed they all work together by pitching in to their co servers area. Price point keeping up with inflation; that's all I can say. If you're in the Grass Valley area and looking for a meal, albeit breakfast, lunch or dinner, and you want a diner atmosphere, go here. Humpty Dumpty Kitchen certainly stood the test of time

Mrs D had the Corn Cakes, substituted chicken sausage for the hot links with eggs over easy. The Corn Cakes were similar to potato Pan cakes, slightly garlicy with a spicy aioli sauce. We didn't mind as we were relaxing while on vacation and the coffee was smooth and welcoming. Ambiance was nice and trendy. The only sad part to dampen this place was the cooks sour attitude. We welcomed him as he arrived with his cute young boy and he glared at us and refused to respond. We laughed at his very rude, boorishness. However, he had time later to sit with a few local friends and talk at a nearby table. Clearly he's an unhappy person and the owner should know how his poor behavior appears to customers. Not a good blend for a tourist town. We will always remember our stop here and refer to it as the "rude cranky cook". UPDATE: So after some research it appears that the sarcasm noted below is from the owner the "cranky cook" himself. His photo appears on their website as the owner. ‍ Rather than simply apologizing for the behavior or offering an explanation they instead chose sarcasm as well as a private, snarky message to me. This unprofessional attitude speaks volumes about the type of people who own the restaurant. Apparently attacking the Yelp reviewer/customer is acceptable in their world. ‍

Menu is not overwhelming so you know everything should be pretty good. Ordered the Smoldering burger with extra patty, the nut burger, kids plain burger (cheese not included and is extra--didn't add it here) (comes with chips and fountain drink), regular dog with cheese, and 2 order of fries. Came out to Bout $65 tax included. Everything is made to order. You can taste the freshness. The patties on the burger are generous. I mean the kids burger is a 1/4 lb patty. I believe it looks to be the same with the other burgers. Even if I just stuck to a single patty, it would not have felt like the bread was overpowering due to the bacon and other toppings on the burger. The burger was dang good. It looked and tasted like a $15 burger (more like $19 since I added an extra patty for $3.80). Just wish fries were included at this price point. The surprise here is the vegetarian Nut burger. This thing was flavorful. Good mouth feel and satisfying full of flavor. If I was mistakenly given this instead of a real burger I would be ok with it. Some people may not like the texture--as it is nutty, but its not too bad. Fries were fries, but using their house made ketchup for it along with the burger just enhances it. Didn't try the hot dog, but it was finished so I'm assuming it was fine. Only gripe was my smoldering burger seemed to be cooked too much as it started to get on the drier side. Not totally well done, but would have been better just if taken off a little sooner. Maybe the cook just lost track of time on this one. Definitely coming again when in the area!

Since we were in Grass Valley we headed there for lunch. The interior is woodsy and homey, with a country edge. There's a pleasant inside and a really nice outdoor patio area. We opted for indoors as it was a bit cool outside. Seated right away, we got menus, which are EXTENSTIVE, for breakfast and lunch. The omelet section alone is mind boggling. Service was quick, efficient and very friendly. These folks have it down and probably have worked there for awhile. After perusing the menu and getting iced tea, I chose the Long John burger (ordered medium rare) that seemed very tempting and Ed got the Caravan sandwich with Roast Beef. We both ordered a side of the Sweet Potato fries (included!). Expecting a tall juicy burger difficult to get my mouth into it and super messy I was pleasantly surprised to get this very long piece of bread instead. It was much easier to eat and I wasn't slobbering it all over myself. Bravo! The flavor, amount of meat, grilled onions and everything else on the burger was perfectly delicious. Ed's sandwich looked amazing and he really enjoyed it. We both agreed that the grilled onions were absolutely made to perfection and the sweet potato fries some of the best we ever had, especially not soggy or greasy.
