Visited November 21st..see my receipt as always. After driving into Penn Valley this morning I needed coffee! I got a cappuccino and it was probably one of the strongest I have had in a long time! Wow..now totally awake! Lol It's a cute place with indoor and outside seating. Rustic decor which is fitting for Penn Valley vibe. They have breakfast...lunch.. And take out. Excellent sandwich, we got the chipotle chicken which was my aunt's choice, I'm not super huge on chipotle mayo but I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. They use high-quality ingredients, they are very popular because I think we waited at least half an hour for our sandwiches to be made but that's not their fault, they are just busy because they are loved. We got the Panini so it was sort of an average sized sandwich but if you get like a regular sandwich? People were getting basically two sandwiches, we kept looking at everyone's plates, that all look delicious by the way, and noticing that instead of taking one sandwich and splitting it in half they just made two small sandwiches which means sharing at this place is ideal. Price point was appropriate for what you get, but like the bacon was thick strips not thin crappy cheap bacon, all the produce seemed very fresh, the meat seemed high-quality and the bread, they toast and butter it and you can even see the grill marks. Again, we got a Panini so that makes sense but the flavor was super on point. Sadly I live very far from this place but I'm always looking for really good restaurants in towns I have to visit from time to time, and grass Valley/Penn Valley is an area I go to at least once a month, I do recommend going in a coach early to avoid that perfect noon lunch rush but definitely give them a try. Parking is a little bit tight so if you can, park in the parking lot just across the way, and seating can be a bit limited depending on how busy they are. Chips don't come with the sandwich so just take note that if you want chips, it's an extra like three bucks or something. They have indoor and outdoor seating, and as long as weather permits I think you're solid no matter where you end up finding a spot, it's very basic seating, the insides quaint and cute but it's not formal, it's just a great place in the country for high-quality sandwiches! They also have sweets for those with a sweet tooth so save room. read more

The food at blue cow deli makes me dream of going back to the blue cow deli for more! The salads are so delicious, all of them, but I favor the Chinese chicken salad, and the spinach salad with fig & walnuts is healthful and tasty, with a tahini type dressing. People really love the paninis here and I concur: the best is one with pesto and grilled chicken, among many choices. They brew their own delicious hibiscus iced tea, it's fulfilling, with no caffeine. And have I mentioned, the staff is wonderful? The sweetest, kindest people run the place, everyone there! This place is awesome!! It was my first time here and was happy to see vegetarian (and can be made vegan) options. I brought my own bread (special dietary restriction) and asked if they'd be able to it for my sandwich. They did have gluten free bread but were happy to use my bread which not all restaurants are open to and it was so kind and so much easier than getting a sandwich and transferring all the ingredients to my own bread. They were so so kind and fun to talk to, telling my friends and i about the town as we aren't from the area. Everything I have ever ordered from Blue Cow I have loved. The staff is amazing and kind every time I go in. My favorites are the red pepper Gouda or the tomato bisque soups, Asian slaw or the Asian chicken salad, and favorite sandwiches are the chicken Gorgonzola panini or the spicy cow!
