This message is for the new owners, I love this restaurant and have been coming here for over 10 years now on a pretty regular basis. Please do not change anything, I already notice that the lemonade is different, won't be getting that anymore. You do not cook the fries long enough.. they are floppy and under cooked the last 4 times I've come in.. I noticed you changed the type of pickles you use, which look like crappy thin dyed vlasic pickles. Don't cut corners or you'll lose a lot of regulars.. it will only take a bit more change and I'll sadly be one of them. Stay true to what it was before you took control of the business read more

I was recommended this spot by a coworker. I was a little hesitant at first but after looking at the menu I definitely wanted to give it a try. I ordered the turkey bacon ranch sandwich with fries and man was it good! A simple sandwich but definitely the right combo. Fries were crunchy and delicious. Ate everything before I headed back home. Thank you Afternoon Deli! read more

Great vegan options, with tempeh and tofu specialties like vegan pastrami! best French fries in Nevada count. Non-vegan food is great as well. My Favorite lunch place! Service is super friendly, and they have a nice patio. Good people there... read more

Guy with grey beard is rude. He should probably be trained more in customer service. We wanted to spend money at that establishment and we're looking at the menu and the guy abruptly told us the line was over there. He was bothered about something We walked out!! read more

I absolutely love this place! Great service and even better food. I think I've almost tried everything on the menu and loved all of it. I highly recommend. read more

I had lived in Grass Valley for almost 2 years and am sad to say that I have never been to the Afternoon Deli until now. I wish I would have tried it a lot sooner! Even though the deli is small, they have a cute and quaint outdoor area with plenty of seating. The food is amazing!! As someone who is trying more vegan options I LOVED this tempeh bacon sandwich & hope that it becomes apart of the regular menu. They have a pretty big menu with options for vegans, vegetarians & meat eaters. The staff are super friendly & were so helpful when I asked for recommendations since it was my first time there. I have so much more on the menu that I want to try & am really pleased with the quality of the food and the price. This is a must stop on my list for one of the best places in GV! I do wish that the Afternoon Deli would be a little more active on Facebook or Instagram so that the community could see what their specials are & to be more involved. read more

Great place with lots of options, fresh vegetables, and vegetarian options. We will be coming back here.

One of my favorites places in town, clean, always tastes delicious and the staff is great!

Such a solid go to here in town. They never miss. Something for everyone and it's organic. Fairly priced, great service and just a solid backbone in our community. Best $1 cookies too!!! read more

Great food, great variety on the menu, great people and service! What more could you want?

They make vegetarian fun. On the recommendation of a buddy, I finally stopped by to try this deli out. Lunch hour weekdays is a busy time here. Great to sit outside in the sun. I ordered the BBQ tempeh cheesesteak sandwich with potato salad. Delicious!! Loved the tasty but small serving of potato salad. Next time I will try the fries. This may become my go to place for lunch!! read more

I had lunch with a friend at Afternoon Deli yesterday and I am compelled to write a review. The food was delicious--I had the Veggie on Sourdough (really good!)--but the service was what made the day exceptional! A big thank you to Tony for his wit, his caring service, and overall niceness as a human being. He made the whole experience one I will remember for a long time to come! read more

I love to try new lunch spots when I work. I found this gem in grass valley, ca. I prefer hot toasted sandwiches and this place came up as having some best ones with a green twist. I work on the go and this restaurant has outside seating which was perfect for me. I ordered a club sandwich which is almost like a panini style. I ordered it without tomatoes. Of course I paired it with French fries. It was great I really liked the portion size. I only ate half of it as it was super filling. I ate the other half the next day. The French fries were great with a special seasoning. My only complaint is...the order taker can be just a little bit more welcoming. I asked what he recommended for a hot toasted sandwich...he said "you pick". read more

Great chicken club, looks like v loyal customers at lunch, lots to choose from: falafels, gyros, sandwiches, burgers, vegies galore.

Great food as always. Out go to order right now is the Really Cheese Steak, and Really Chicken sandwiches with fries ( the fires are especially good) and a side of Cheese Garlic Pita. Service is fast. Just wish they were open 24/7 cause we would eat their food for every meal. read more

Every single time that I've been to afternoon deli, it's been a hit. My mom and dad would go here for their lunchtime. Few times when I tag you along with them, they took me to the afternoon deli and boy was it good! Finally tried this place today and it's was delicious! I got the chicken club, and my boyfriend got one of the cheesesteaks. We both loved our meals! It was so good I ate half my sandwich before thinking this is so good, it needs a review lol. It was hard to choose what to eat because everything looked so good. Ingredients were fresh and great quality. Staff was friendly and attentive. I loved the homemade fries and ranch too! Definitely going to be a regular here from now on! read more

Waaaay over priced for a elementary school lunch sized sandwich.....that was the first & Last time I'll be going there...

Still awesome. Lots of clearly labeled vegan choices. Trash talk: they have chilled glasses for beer. You can request one for water or any other beverage if you don't want to use one of the single-use plastic cups they set out. read more

Afternoon Deli - Vegan choices - Delis Near Me - Grass Valley, California

The place was a little difficult to find as there is some construction going on in the area. It was an extremely warm day and the inside of this deli was much warmer, no AC. We opted to sit on the patio, in the heat, as it was less muggy feeling than the inside seating. We had some delicious garlic pita that seemed to have cheese or a garlic spread. It came out warm and gooey and full of flavor. My husband had the cheeseburger and fries. It was juicy and delicious and the fries were hot and crispy. I got the Mediterranean chicken sandwich and it was so good. Lots of flavor! Service was not memorable as you order at the counter and pay. The only weird thing was you have to ask for ice (ordered ice tea and water) and they give you just few cubes and we had to keep asking for more because the water and brewed tea were warm. Felt like we were bothering them asking for more cubes so many times to cool down our drinks. Other than that, food is solid! read more

Have you ever finished a sandwich, and then were immediately devastated that you finished the sandwich? That is my experience every time I eat at Afternoon Deli. That's why I always save my fries for last - not only are they the tastiest fries in Nevada County, they also help ease the pain of missing that delicious sandwich . If I'm being honest, the staff always seems a bit stressed... but maybe it's just because they're always super busy because they are amazing. Lots of vegan options, alternatives, and the staff is very knowledgeable about how to make substitutions to suit all dietary needs. Thanks for being the true delight we all need in the afternoon read more

Great little deli find driving around Grass Valley for work. Good menu selection and the portions are big. Sits on top of the side of a mountain so views are amazing. Injust love the food here. And the surrounding are getting a big face lift. Nice patio area. Dog friendly,

I recently went there because of the Vegan Burger Battle. Their vegan burger was amazing and I'm normally not a fan of house made patties. Thank you for all the great vegan options! I'm very impressed. Your vegan potato salad was wonderful! Such a treat as a vegan. And Violife vegan cheeze! Wow! I'll be back! read more

They close pretty early, so I'm always rushing to try to get there by 3. Multiple times now I've arrived a few minutes early, really hungry and happy to give them my money, to be turned away. I understand that it's their business and they can close whenever they want, but they closed on me early on me multiple time and I've specifically arrived there on time. Besides that, the fries are always extremely greasy and always upset my stomach. The only other option for a side is a little 1 bite cup of coleslaw that isn't a decent substitute. The friendliness of the staff is really hit or miss. Too bad there isn't more options in this small town. read more

Dry sandwhich and burger. Thought we would try somewhere different. I will stick to southpine. $25 for 2 sandwiches.... Asked for a side of ranch for moisture and he had the nerve to ask for a dollar. Damn cheap manager. Fyi go to southpine... Fresher and they want you to like it. Had to take my dry meal to go... They gave me a piece of foil and dog bag. So there is how they feel about their quality... Dog food :-) read more

Afternoon Deli - Dry sandwhich and burger. - Delis Near Me - Grass Valley, California

Their nut burgers used be great. This week, the burger was awful and no where near the consistent quality of the past. Even the fries were not like they used to be. And the prices have gone through the roof. We have recommended Afternoon Deli to many people we know. Now we'll have to let them know it may not meet the expectations we set. I really like the owners and may end up going back to let them know how disappointing the lunch was. read more

Really great lunch spot! So many great options for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. Their fries are fantastic and staff is always very nice. I always usually get the Pastrami Reuben just cause it's soo good. If I could say anything, it's be great to have more meat on their sandwiches! I'll be back soon! read more

The food is always great, very polite employees, clean tables and bathrooms, and a very great place over all

This place had so many good reviews. Not sure what happened but on my first visit my Rueben sandwich was so so soggy it was falling apart. Maybe had been slightly toasted at some point in the making because there were dark places on it...couldn't find the cheese. Pastrami was so tough it was hard to bite. The fries were greasy and soggy also, and yet, smelled burnt. Inedible bunch of "food". read more
