Absolutely love this co-op! We came last week after visiting Crystal Hermitage for late lunch/early dinner before our hour drive home. They have a great hot food and deli area. All of the employees were really helpful and friendly. I was excited get the chance to go again because my first time was almost 10 years ago. They have shaded tables and bench's out front, and both times I've been they have live music. Great place for a vegan! Everything we got was delicious. read more

I was over the moon to find this co-op while visiting family in Grass Valley! I'd never been in one but was excited to check it out and even more excited once I stepped through the doors. A few things you can expect to find: - Homeopathic meds on the shelf - clean personal care products - tons of organic foods -limited ingredient items - nontoxic cleaning products Keep in mind, you need to do your own research and read labels yourself. You'll be surprised to find lots of healthier options, although there are a few greenwashed labels hiding on the shelves. But, so nice for the community to have a place like this to shop! We took four of our grand kids to BriarPatch Food Co-op today to get some smoothies. We thought this would be a healthy treat and the kids were excited. I stayed in the car with the sleeping baby. They came out with their smoothies which cost $12 each for a kind of small medium size. We were driving home, and when asked, the kids said there drinks were "kind of sketchy." They said they tasted like water and one said it just tasted like milk. I didn't want one, but my wife said hers tasted disappointing too. I don't recall writing any negative reviews before, but when a company presents themselves as being above the mass merchandise level of others and then robs you, that needs to be addressed. read more

They have excellent produce, great meat department (the salmon burger patties were phenomenal, I highly recommend!) a great deli set up & a huge array of organic & natural products. Great organic grocery store! Visited August 13th..see receipt. Located on Sierra College Drive in Grass Valley you will find this huge store with everything you need!. When I want the freshest organic fruits and veggies I come here. They also have a meat and fish counter towards the back filled with fresh items. Because it is organic it will cost you quite a bit more for high quality items. I like that they have A deli with premade wraps and sandwiches and salads or have something made. I got the biggest brocollini today (see picture) which will compliment my salmon. They also have coffee and smoothies. You can eat inside or outside. Plenty of parking! If you enjoy healthy choices whether it's their produce or grains or body products then you will find it here. They also carry beer and wine. Employees are friendly and the vibe is super chill. My favorite co op in California! I always stop by on my way back from visiting family. Their hot bar, soup bar, and salad bar are always filled with fresh and yummy choices. Their sandwiches are also great. Friendly staff and reasonably priced. Bathrooms are always clean as well. read more

While the food is great, the service is so-so. Nearly 40 minutes for 4 meals is a bit crazy - especially for a grocery store deli bar. The baked goods were spectacular! The peanut butter cookie is not sweet and crunchy while the lemon pressed cookie was tart and gooey. Just the way these cookies should be. since the deli was so popular I wish they had a seating or restaurant area so that you can wait for your food if you are not also grocery shopping for any reason. Otherwise it felt like we were in the way the entire time. On par with large grocery chain prices like Whole Foods - so more expensive than Wal-Mart but better quality and mainly locally sourced! Definitely grab the Chamoagne Jun from Elixart, a local kombuchary, to enjoy! It is one of our favorite things about Nevada Citg. read more

Needed a vegan meal and past reviews gave this place a thumbs up. Such a great idea. Premade vegan meal. Well labeled. I also got dolmas, Thai Black Rice salad and a box of whole wheat matzos. Just got to California Organics- the price is better and you won't be treated rudely. The most rude customer service I have ever experienced is here at BriarPatch. Two times I've ordered online and there was no manager to help so I had to pay TWICE. Today I wanted to add my girlfriend to the account after being told multiple times I only needed to fill out the form and being it back come to find out that was a lie and they needed more information and the process takes longer than what we were originally told. Then they proceeded to smile and laugh over the fact they wasted our time. Absolutely horrible experience and behavior. No compassion or empathy here. read more

I'm so glad I'm a member of this amazing Co-op... The customer service is beyond amazing... And I was able to observe a young man patiently training a woman much older how to do check out... He was so patient and kind and had a smile on his face the whole time... I know how challenging it could be when you start a new job And I wish I knew his name because he was an amazing human being... I feel like all the great humans work at Briarpatch! Who knows maybe I'll be putting in an application when I'm off disability and I can start working again... The energy there... The amazing food... The questions that I think are too stupid to ask but ask anyway are always well received and I'm guided in the right direction... It's a little pricey, but all of the health food essentials and supplements can be found here which is a great convenience. Appreciate the bulk sized tofu which is a great deal. All organic produce, most is local. I usually get whatever is in season bagged up right at the front. A large selection of ready made meals, seasonal holiday items, sandwiches, sushi, juice bar, smoothies, olive bar, hot soup, hot coffee, etc. There's sometimes live music out front mid day, I love to stop for lunch and hang out. I am permanently disabled and park in the handicap parking spot in front of their doors. On May 12 someone broke my passenger side window while I was in the store. That same night I tried calling the store multiple times for hours and they don't answer. I had my care giver take me back so I could speak with the Manager Shawn. Shawn promised me he would look at the security footage and call me about how my window was broken. He NEVER called me. Because I'm disabled and depend on help it's a hardship to keep going back without a helper. Shawn should be ashamed of himself for not calling me as promised. It's obvious they dont care about their shoppers or the community. It's changed my opinion of their store and I won't go there any more and I'll be spreading the word. Rebecca T. I was in Grass Valley for the dmv there and decided to check out this co-op. I was pleasantly surprised!! It was so grand and had so many vegan goodies. Everything was labeled so well so it was obvious that an item was vegan, gluten free, vegetarian, etc. I tried their vegan macaroni salad and it was to die for. There were many local items produced in Grass Valley. They had about two aisles of bulk items, including spices and herbs. I found this helpful so you don't have to purchase another bottle of basil let's say. Parking was no issue because they have such a massive parking lot. The staff was very friendly here and inviting. Also, the prices here aren't extremely highly. I found the prices of items to be fairly priced. If I'm ever in Grass Valley again, I'll be sure to visit this co-op and try more goodies from here!! read more

I love shopping at the 'patch for so many reasons it'll be tough to articulate them all! The produce is fresh, varied and always beautifully presented. The meat counter has delicious cuts of meat, sustainably caught seafood and tons of organic and compassionately raised offerings. The deli and ready-made food department always creates the most delicious entrees and lunch items. And, oh my gosh, the bakery is just SUBLIME. The German chocolate cake, the small blueberry bundt cakes are ridiculously yummy. And, just had a cranberry cheesecake tonight and that's what prompted me to write this review (been meaning to a while.) The Briarpatch staff is incredibly friendly and helpful and very efficient. Though it's local roots, back on Joershke ave, are long gone and it's now become the gentrified center of the County it still has good things to offer, at inflated prices. I believe them 'redefining Local, is a disservice to the actual Local economy as seen with the branding of 'L' for local, most social media will recognize this L as meaning 'a loss'. Instead of staying in their lane they've now begun the 'whole-foods-ification instead of being an actual coop where members see savings every time they shop.
