I always get my steaks here whether it's a cowboy steak or a couple New Yorkers! Always fully staffed and fresh! I also love their deli. I picked up one of the best triple cream cheese I have ever had which went well with the garlic sourdough round I bought! ( See my receipt for the name of the cheese). While camping at Molokoff Diggins Park, we realized we'd forgotten a few things. We asked the Ranger where the nearest store was, and he directed us to a little market up the road. When we arrived... it was not exactly what we were looking for. Sure, they had the basics, but nothing that warranted the price, and also no ice. This was a problem. So we asked where the next closest store was, and we were directed to Mother Truckers. "It's an old hippie stop but they probably have ice," was the description we received. Okay.... After a short drive up the road, we arrived. Nothing special from the outside, and it definitely looked like the hippie stop we were told. When we walked inside, and my life changed forever. Organic produce and freshly baked cinnamon rolls greeted us, along with a selection of gluten free breads. As we looked further, we realized we were in the world's smallest Whole Foods Market, with tiny prices to match! There is an excellent selection of beer, organic produce (seriously, have you ever seen a sunchoke? I have now!), bulk foods of every variety (garma masala, anyone?), chocolate bars from around the world, a wide dairy selection including almond milk, and a million other things you didn't know you needed. They even fit a healthcare aisle and a clearance section! I was in heaven. I was ready to move my tent and just pitch it right outside. Cooler heads prevailed, however, and after taking a thorough tour of every aisle of the market, we picked out some goodies and headed back to camp. I grabbed veggie chips (the kind that are actual dried veggies), a Kombucha, and some almond milk for the morning. And of course ice. The next day, we came up again just to snag a few more treats. I can't believe the awesome selection of high-quality food at such great prices. What a find! We will be back for sure. :)

The doors were halfway closed impeding people from leaving and coming into the store. I also don't mind bagging my own groceries, but the guy who rang us up did only that, leaving our things on the conveyor belt as he just walked away. Who are you hiring? We've shopped at SPD for 32 years and we have always preferred it to anywhere else in town, but this nonsense is getting old. Do better.

They do have everything at this super safeway! They have a large floral department..large bakery...and hot and cold food in the deli. I went here to get suishi but they only had poke bowls available. They also have a meat and fish department with a large selection to choose from. They also have tons of fresh fruit and veggies to choose from along with hot soup to go. There is a Starbucks inside the store and they are getting their Christmas decorations out. The line can get a bit long if you go early! What i do like about this store is that they have alot of premade salads and sandwiches to go which is great if you are in a hurry! I will still go here when i am looking for something special that might not be available at the smaller Safeway. Nice and clean inside!

Probably two or three weeks ago I went into Safeway to buy some pork chops that were on sale for…read more399 a pound. For me that was an OK deal, because I really wanted some pork chops. I bought a pack slightly over 3 pounds for about $13.50 Went home and opened up the package and pulled the first one out and it looks like a pork chop but one side of it was 1 inch thick and the other side was about an eighth of an inch thick. Just a piece of garbage. Almost impossible to cook evenly. Remember this is Safeway, the most expensive grocery store stores that we have here in grass Valley in my opinion. I went ahead and took the other for pork chops out of the package so I could freeze them two Ziploc baggies for later. Two of them were fine. Bone in pork loin chops. That's what I wanted and that's what I paid for. The fourth pork chop with something maybe a cut off a pork roast or something. Certainly not a pork chop. The fifth was a small pork chop That looked like the first piece of garbage but even worse. It looked like a dog had already chewed on it. Now I'm pissed. I took my receipt and the two crappy pork chops. I had left out of the package of five and went back to Safeway and immediately got a manager. He was courteous and receptive and asked him to follow me back to the meat department because I needed somebody there with me because I was about to lose my mind. He went and called a butcher out, and I explained to him my disappointment. 60% of the pork chops I bought, three out of four were trash. The irony is that they were basically hidden under the other pork chops. 100% deceptive trade practices. They put pork scraps in my pork chops with the belief that nobody would complain and say oh well I'm just home. I'll go ahead and eat this garbage. The Butcher acted like he was king turd of poop Mountain. Two times during our conversation, which only lasted two minutes, he reminded me that he was really important and had to get back in there cutting meat. Rude, and dismissing. They did replace the two really bad pork chops. I brought back with proper pork loin chops because they had no choice. We haven't met, but I'm the guy that's gonna take my two pork chops with me. I was mad as hell, but I was super polite to everybody. I'm super disappointed that Safeway allows that in the deceptive practices of hiding inferior cuts under one that look good, is probably what goes on a lot because I'll just find it a statistical improbability that that's the first time that's happened Safeway, you can eat my shorts. You should do better. I'm almost ashamed to say that my first job was bagging groceries at Safeway when I was in high school in 1985. SAFEWAY, YOU NEED TO DO BETTER,
