We stopped by to this location to change our tot's diaper, unfortunately they didn't have a changing table. On the bright side, we did find an adorable Bluey Christmas hat for one of the boys I nanny and an energy drink to keep Hubby awake for the car ride! Great customer service and location with all your holiday and grocery needs! We'll be back! SYOY! :-) read more

I shopped today..Memorial Day. I love this store on Neal street because the employees are friendly and helpful! See receipt for savings. When you sign up on the Safeway app you can save alot of money. I saved almost 30 bucks today! All the employees will help you with the app. I wish i would have used this months ago! Special thanks to JEFF (i think he is the produce manager) for his kindness in helping me substitute an item. He is friendly and always has a smile when helping customers! GREAT employee! Briana was also very helpful! Its convenient..no long lines....which is what i like! Good job, little Safeway! read more

Almost a five star, a little understaffed at times, one completely rude female cashier but the rest are always cheerful and absolutely amazing. Places is usually cleaned very well and easy to find what you need. read more

Cashier did not say anything when she started ringing up my items. I said hi and asked her how she was and she didn't answer me. Never even looked up. She gave me my total, I paid and she still didn't say anything. Terrible customer service! I never leave reviews but that was ridiculous and so was her fake eyelashes. 04/02 around 11pm read more

This store is too small and therefore lacks the ability to carry the inventory of a full-sized Safeway, like the one in Nevada City. In addition, for such a small store, they have too many employees on the floor. I was in there for 10 minutes, and in each of the very narrow aisles I visited, I was met with an employee asking, "Can I help you find anything?" I felt crowded. The straw that broke the camel's back was the female employee at the self checkout who reeked of cigarettes, stepped inches behind me, just to get my hand basket. She could have waited until I was gone to get it, but no, she felt the need to invade my space and make herself look busy. In the future, I'll only shop at the Safeway on Sutton in the future-- there's no danger of being crowded by employees or the store not having the inventory due to lack of space there. read more

I'm extremely surprised to see that *Shao Mei Brown Sugar Boba Ice Cream Bars* were sold here! I'm from the bay and I've normally seen the boxes of boba ice cream bars in the Chinese market if I'm lucky and it hasn't been sold out by any other person grabbing as many boxes as they can. (Many of my friends have taken 8+ boxes of these particular ice cream bars) I came just to get some ice cream, mainly ben and jerrys and as I walked into the aisle and noticed the familiar box at the bottom of the freezer and got myself one. I highly recommend this ice cream to anyone who's curious to trying new flavors out! Thank you safeway for selling this LOL read more

Always only two cashiers and you wait for a long time, Also lots of items out of stock. Step up your game Safeway !

While the workers are all nice I struggle paying double in price (COVID/inflation) and being expected to bag my own groceries. Not sure what's up with staffing but always long lines and overwhelmed checkers. read more

My first review here. I have come into this store once before, I forget what I was looking for, I think it was along the same lines as why I came in today. I was walking my dog today--downtown Grass Valley, and just wanted to get some bottled water. They have two cold frigs for soda and such. The first frig does not have a place for water. The second, I think may have, there was no label sticker under the voided space. I did ask someone that worked there--dont know what job he has, but he didnt have an idea. He looked where I looked and could not complete the sentence. I had to close the conversation for him by saying, thank you, and I walked out. I just think it is kinda odd that they dont have cold water by the cash register stations. Does not everyone get water from time to time there? It is always a reminder, oh ya... I need to drink more water. Anyway--my thirsty thoughts for the day! read more

Safeway - Grocery Near Me - Grass Valley, California

Safeway has been price gouging since the COVID epidemic started. My groceries TRIPLED when it first started (ya, when it first started- before all the supply chain issues). We normally spend $400 a month and we spent $1200!!! Bullshit! I really hope your paying your employees hazard pay with all the extra money your making. read more

This store is CONSISTENTLY understaffed w a max of two checkers at ANY given time. Lines are so long that it creates mass confusion as to where you can even find room to stand. I have left my cart/basket and walked out on more than one occasion...which is a MAJOR inconvenience. They have a captive audience with no competition leaving locals no choice but to put up with it. read more

Yes, I am aware that organic doesn't last as long as the other mass produced produce. But what ticks me off is that you should eat all of your organic produce on the way home from said grocery store, or it goes bad. My peaches were disgusting the next day. We consume about a mango a day and I could eat artichokes all day and all night. My babe is sick of them.... that's okay, more for me. This Safeway location now carries my favorite bran cereal. Dude... the stuff has 19 grams of fiber per serving. My babe loves it when I'm leaving for work. I wonder why. =) read more

Great location, perhaps a bit awkward. However, it smells like a vet clinic and offers the most disappointing beer selection in the area unless you're looking for Coors Light. read more

Smaller then usual but found everything we needed. Limited bread department and fruit department. Right by the highway which was good! Clean store and friendly staff! We would stop here again for food if in the area again. Easy to find! read more

I just moved up here. I am disabled and this store is the perfect size for me. It's all I can do. When I check out, the cashier always asks me if I need help out, which I do and I appreciate them being observant and kind to ask. Just a couple days ago, one of their best clerks, Lucas, helped me out to the car and he put all the bags in my car for me. I had heavy stuff and he never complained. I like everyone here. I will continue to shop here. it is ADA friendly. read more

I've shopped here over 10 years now and I have always been treated respectfully. All of these negative reviews are unfortunate,(if true) but it's not Safeway's job to"patrol"for drug dealers. That's the city police job. Give the store a chance.. probably not alot to work with since all focus is on the"big store". read more

What the malcontents seem to have missed is that this store remains open for the convenience of those unable to experience the wonders of the "superstore" uptown. Try taking the bus home with all those goodies the naysayers are missing out on. I do have that option of high-scale shopping and prefer this store instead. These are absolutely the friendliest and most helpful people in retail - and I shop local enough to know. I've got a solution for the whiners. Go back to LA or the Bay Area where purple olives replace service and where spacious aisles are a substitute for what a downtown community is best served by. This is the Kilroy's of retail grocery. If you don't know how cool that is, that says it all. A phenomenal operation! read more

This has to be by far the worst safeway I ever been too especially for lunch unless you like lunchables go somewhere else

By far the worst most awful grocery store in the country - probably even worse than a third world food stand offering "road kill" for sale. Avoid it if you can by driving to the Brunswick location. This place should have been bulldozed down decades ago. Would not even give one star but had to. Would not even go there in the case of an emergency. Awful situation in the parking lot that is uncontrolled with homeless and crazy traffic, etc. a dangerous place to be at in the evening. Long lines, understaffed a real "Downer" overall. read more

The worst customer service I've ever seen in a Safeway mostly due to long lines at all times of the day. Not enough cashiers ever. I'll never go back. Raleys is never as bad and it's a cleaner store. read more

I would rather go into a Safeway in the tenderlion in SF than go to this Safeway. If you must go there only do it during the day light hours, anytime after dark and you could very well get mugged. This is all way too bad as it is the grocery store for downtown GV. I would never ever tell a tourist to go to this Safeway for ANY items that they might need. EVER!!!! read more

If you want to find Grass Valley's finest, swing by here in the late evening... fear should not be part of grocery shopping.

I've only been to this Safeway once. I usually go to the one on Sutton Way. AVOID this Safeway at all costs. There's hardly any selection, it's dirty, small, cramped, and frankly? Scary. When I left this grocery store, there was this homeless-looking guy standing out front yelling and cursing at random people. Yeah... I'll never go here again. read more

Not well stocked, poor customer service, and a lousy environment. If you want to feel safe while shopping do not go here.

I have a sneaking suspicion that this Safeway is a cover for something else, and it certainly isn't a teeth factory because there's none to be found in the general vicinity. Rumor has it that there's a secret, locals only, underground tunnel that connects this parking lot to the Kmart lot. read more

I barely know the produce manager at Safeway but wanted to let people know that those were some of the best artichokes I've had from a grocery store. Jeff read more

I live downtown (and have lived here for over 40 years) and always shop here. Almost all employees know me by name (and what I shop for). Yes, it's a small store and you may need to wait a bit on busy nights, but I've yet to meet a rude cashier! Ignore negative comments! 1st world brats complain about their 1st world problems... read more

The most ridiculous place to go shopping at night this enormous store and only 1 checker?! Makes no sense are they really that money hungry?

Worst store in all Nevada County. Avoid at all costs. Use only if emergency - and you have time to wait in line.

Wow just wow!! Everything was easy to find great prices and lots of cashiers!!! Couldn't be any happier and definitely coming back!! For such a small town impressed with the customer service and cleanliness read more

Hi, I work here, and i am saddened to say that this safeway and just safeway in general is run extremely poorly and is not recommended for shopping. first of all "old" safeway is definitely not safe, alot of fighting ensues where police are called, also rampant theft. there are druggies and homeless everywhere, cops are constantly called. 2nd, safeway is hireing "special" people, who CANNOT do their job, the rest of us get paid the same or less then them but have to do their job and our own. 3rdly, the lines are terribly, they do not have enough checkers working at once nor enough courtesy during the busy times. 4th, the bosses are on the employees like crazy to get ridiculous amounts of work done for the amount of staff given while they sit on their butts. 5th, safeway does not care about customers, this is not my opinion, again i work here, and we are told to do things and say things that does not work for customers and quite often make customers mad. 6th, workers are not allowed to accept tips from customers, and if a customer refuses to take their money back then we have to turn in the money or get fired, this is down right Not right, what customers give us should not be dictated by the company. I will continue to work here out of necessity as many of us are only working here out of necessity, but if you are looking and can find elsewhere, i urge you to stay away, it is an extremely stressful and ridiculous place to work. And customers, i just want to say sorry. read more
