Today (dec 4) i went to the Super Safeway on Sutton way in Grass Valley. I try to go to the smaller Safeway on Neil street because its not so busy. They do have everything at this super safeway! They have a large floral department..large bakery...and hot and cold food in the deli. I went here to get suishi but they only had poke bowls available. They also have a meat and fish department with a large selection to choose from. They also have tons of fresh fruit and veggies to choose from along with hot soup to go. There is a Starbucks inside the store and they are getting their Christmas decorations out. The line can get a bit long if you go early! What i do like about this store is that they have alot of premade salads and sandwiches to go which is great if you are in a hurry! I will still go here when i am looking for something special that might not be available at the smaller Safeway. Nice and clean inside! read more

I am not surprised to see all the poor views on here. I actually vowed to stop shopping at Safeway a year awhile because the people that work in the store are just always rude, and not just to me I've seen rudeness to other customers I don't know as well. Today took the cake! The only reason I happen to be in today, was someone gave me a gift card. I'm in line at self checkout, and the woman that helped me with my item not scanning (if "helped" is even the proper word here) was so abhorrently rude, and nasty with not only her condescending words, but a very nasty tone of voice. That this will be the last time I go to this Safeway. I mean ever again! I have seen this particular lady being rude to another customer as well, waiting at self checkout. I always use self check and have dealt with other rude self check out cashiers here before but nothing quite like this. I mentioned this interaction to one person today so far, and my friend that I was speaking to asked me if she had red hair, and I said yes. And she said she always has negative interactions with this person as well and said she believes she's a manager. Well, I have contacted corporate and put in a complaint. I'm sure me refusing to go to this one Safeway has no weight on Safeway bottom dollar, but maybe they should consider all of the negative experiences this woman might be creating and losing customers at the end of the day might not be worth it. Not to mention that you're creating a poor experience for your customers, and I am most sure a bad work environment for the other employees as well. I have worked in customer service for a long time, and this is just not acceptable behavior from an employee and especially a manager. It's unfortunate when people are miserable in life, but you just can't have them treating customers this way. I regularly shop at three other grocery stores in Nevada county and I never have any issues with customer service, ever. Last Wednesday, August 28, my wife as every Wednesday goes to Saveway in the Swamp. She purchased macaroni and potato salad of which the person told her is made fresh daily. It was the worst potato salad I have ever eaten. We may try it once more to see if he had made a bad batch. KARENS ALERT!! This shop is now run by a bunch of untrained, & very unprofessional Karens. Ive shopped here for 15 years & even multiple times a day recently since working with Doordash. Yesterday I was surrounded by management & some other employees & falsely accused of being a well known shoplifter. I have NEVER stolen anything from this Safeway or any other grocery store for that matter. I was told they have personally witnessed it & have me on video & when I begged them to show me, they refused & said they will provide a still-shot for me today. I don't know what a single still-shot will show or prove but I know they do not have video of me shoplifting. I type my customer rewards number in every-time I shop which is my phone number & name attached, plus my whole identity & information is connected to me when I Doordash there. I would have to be the stupidest criminal in Grass Valley to try to steal from this store. I would never set foot in this store again but unfortunately, I make between $20-$60 a shift Doordashing here & I really need that money. I hear they have been falsely accusing multiple customers lately & hopefully it stops with me. I immediately contacted corporate last night to file a complaint & will be hiring a lawyer asap to file a lawsuit against this shop & their managers that are illegally profiling & treating innocent customers like criminals, lying about having proof & witnessing thefts, or being grossly negligent with cases of mistaken identity. It's easy to rip on a Safeway, but honestly, they had their mojo going when we visited for a supply run before a hike during the time and restrictions of COVID-19. I would never say Safeway has been as stringent about safety as some of their grocery competitors, but this location was acting like they were. Beyond that, it was one of the cleaner and better stocked Safeway's I've ever been to. They had stickers on the floor designating where people should stand to both keep out of the aisles and a 6-foot distance while waiting to checkout. They also even had stickers on the aisles indicating the direction shoppers should go in to avoid each other, although I can't say anyone was paying particular attention to the latter. They had clean restrooms - always a plus - and basically everything we needed at Safeway Club card prices. I wouldn't say it's the best shopping option out there, but it is a great resource for those in the area looking for all their grocery needs. read more

What an unfortunate experience! Safeway of Grass Valley took an order for a cake and then made me the wrong thing, which I didn't discover until cutting into it at the birthday party. And when I went to get the cake, another customer was there to pick up her cupcakes, and they have already given them to someone else, so there seems to be rampant mismanagement of this department. I have asked repeatedly for a refund, but none has been provided. Unfortunately, I am now having to take legal action against Safeway to get my money back. We've been using both the "drive up and go" feature and the home delivery service with this Safeway since we recently had a life situation for the time being which makes it harder to spend a bunch of time in the grocery store. The services have mostly gone very well without too many issues....a much better pickup experience than with Raleys during COVID. The workers are polite and very friendly and the out of stocks have been minimal. We normally shop in person at other groceries in town but wanted to give Safeway a try...and this one is well stocked with a lot items I usually do not find at a typical Safeway so that is a huge plus. Negatives for this Safeway include a packed, tight fit parking lot and a very high volume of business at all hours. So much so....that we avoid doing big in person shops at this particular store. It's a shame since Safeway probably has their act together better than the other choices in town other than perhaps SPD with their very high quality meat and deli offerings. Safeway's meat and deli prices are sky high but Safeway does have excellent specials as compared to the other big chains in town. read more

Visiting from out of town. Ran into Safeway for a last minute grocery need; I was so happy to see Safeway open on Christmas Day. I am super appreciative of the employees who work on Christmas. The man handling the south entrance the night of Christmas let every single person on their way into the store tonight that "we would like to be home with our families too". This is a very bizarre, rude and unprofessional thing to say. He should be upset with management, not the customers. I heard him tell an old man to leave immediately because he wanted to be home with his family. The old man thought he was joking and laughed and the Safeway employee said "you think this is funny". So I'm in the store just after 6 am avoiding the crowds. They have pork roast for .99 cents a pound so I ask the butcher if he would cube if for me. Which they always do for free. The young man says I think it costs more to cube it (unlike ever before). So he checks and comes back and says it's an extra $6:00 a pound to cut it for me. So I get to the front and expressed my dissatisfaction with $6 a pound Quote to cube the meat. The manager Jessica checks and tells me it is because that's what the price is of cubed pork. So I come home and call the Safeway in the next town I ask him how much is it for cubbed pork he says $4.99 or 5.99 but don't buy that get the roast For .99 cents a pound and we will cube it for free. the delivery people are very hit or miss. we ask for deli items so our disabled family members can have a quick and easy meal when no one else is around to help them but then they will say it is "out of stock" which is a lie when i call the store the minute I get my receipt to verify if it is out of stock and funnily enough they never are. Worst grocery store in the history of crappy grocery stores!! I went on Saturday & it was all chaotic as always because they have all these rules & arrows but nobody follows them & it makes for a stressful situation with some customers getting mad at other customers. Ugh. Then I got in the LONG checkout line, waited over 20 min for the slowest cashier EVER, Gabe, I put all my stuff on the counter & he starts having issues with the machine. It won't print the last customer's receipt, so that Customer leaves without a receipt. Gabe rudely ignores me while he tries to fix it by pushing all the buttons at once. Ugh. I'd finally had enough and load all my groceries back into my cart and start to walk away. He said, "oh it unlocked, looks like it going to work now." I said, "Well, am I going through get a receipt, because I need one." He rolls his eyes & with a nasty attitude says, "mam, I can't predict what the machine is going to do." Wow. 25 min into the checkout process & I had to get back at the end of the line & start all over!! So I wait again, this time was faster, less people in line & the cashier was actually working hard to move the line. Then I get to my turn, unload everything again, and the cashier starts scanning & the bagger starts bagging. I'm finally about to get the heck out of this store!! Then the cashier just stops & calls a manager over. He tells her he was off at 2:30 & it's 2:33. She thought he was off at 3. So they start pulling up their scheduling app on their phones & looking at a clipboard while they debate about his schedule. Even the bagger was just freaking standing there while my groceries are partly bagged & I've been waiting over 35 minutes to checkout!!! It was ridiculous!! I finally grabbed some bags & starts packing my own damn groceries & throwing them in the cart I was so pissed. I told the cashier that he had no idea how long I'd been waiting & I had people all waiting for me to get home & I begged him just to ring up the damn groceries so I could leave already!!! But he's off so the manager takes over the transaction & begins to browse through the list of everything he rang up so far because she's confused if he'd rang up the peanut butter. **silently screams** If I ever go to prison it'll be because of the front end staff at this Safeway location. read more

I have used this Safeway before without any issues. But tonight, November 24, 2018 at approximately 6:20 P.M. the cashier at the self checkout stand was horrible. My husband has a cold. We stopped to get some DayQuil/NyQuil for him, so he can feel better. The register started flashing when we rang it up and said we needed the be over 18. Okay, since we are both over 50, no issues. The cashier was helping another customer. Waited for her to finish with them, thinking she would see the flashing light and come help us. Instead, she stood there and ignored us. So, I waved at her to get her attention, she just smiled and nodded at me. Confused at her response, I waved and pointed at the register and she just smiled back and ignored me. Now I was getting annoyed. I thought about just walking out, but tried one more time. This time she came over and said I needed to put my age in. She said it like I should have already done so. The register did not give an option to put in my birthdate, it said assistance was on its way to clear an age restricted item. I was unclear what she wanted, as I am cleared over 18. Finally, she says she had to see my license to clear the code so we can finish our purchase. Okay, give her my license and she tried twice to type in my birthdate and kept screwing it up. At this point, I was done. Told her to forget it and walked out. Walked over to CVS and got the DayQuil for the same price and ZERO hassle. Wasn't even asked for proof of being over 18. read more

The store is very unorganized with the social distancing people are not looking down at the stickers on the ground letting you know which way to go and not go. The majority of the people are not wear face masks to protect other people from getting the Corona Virus. And they don't even mandate you to wear one. Even though there is a huge sign at both entrances saying face masks are mandated. None of the employees who work there will not kick them out of the store. I do not usually shop at Safeway , but staying in Grass Valley, this was the only store available. I, of course did not have a special membership card, and got charged ridiculous prices. Having a membership is not a saving, Safeway just charge you a regular price. As an example, I have been buying Meomi Pinot Noir for years at Trader Joe's in Los Angeles and yes price varies from $ 16 to $18... but Safeway charged me $ 25.99 as a non member...just not acceptable. I bought 2 bottles of Water, one bottle of Meomi, I bag of pistachios, 3 bananas and 2 peaches and paid $ 47.42 even Whole Foods is cheaper and better. The cashier also mentioned that no membership card was available... not sure what she meant. Very disappointed about that experience.... read more

I am permanently disabled and use a walker or sometimes a cane. I was going to the deli here at least 3 times a week for the last year or more. Then on Halloween I had a negative experience that left me feeling sad about the customer service by the men in the deli here. I painfully made my way to the deli and waited 5 minutes standing there while the employees were doing some things behind the counter. I finally spoke up after being ignored for so long. I asked for 2 corn dogs and some salad. Then a younger girl walked up wearing a sexy kitty cat costume and asked for 2 corn dogs. The young man behind the counter decided to give them to her and make me wait to cook more. I was there first. But I am not a sexy kitten. I sat in the sitting area crying because I was passed over and not helped due to being disabled and not looking real beautiful in the moment. I was so sad about being treated this way, I have not been back since. Life is hard enough for me. I don't need to go to any kind of business who treats any woman that way. The men at the deli should be ashamed for treating me like I didn't matter. I won't bother going back now. Not after that. read more
