So hubby and I are on our way to Idaho for a family trip. Anyway, we were hungry and saw this place from the freeway. Beach Hut Deli is a surfer theme place with some low reggae playing in the background. The staff is super friendly and very helpful. After saying it was our first time, they made some suggestions of some popular sandwiches. Hubby got the North Shore with a variety of meat. I got the roast beef and cheese. Interesting theme in the place, kind of chill with a Hawaiian/Beach chill feel to it. They also use Frisbees as plates, kind of a cool touch to the vibe. The sandwich selection is pretty big and they allow custom choices if you don't want any of the pre-set ones. I had the North Shore. The regular size was bigger than I had expected, looked and tasted great. Staff is polite and friendly. Answered my wife's questions with a smile. We kept getting recommended to try beach hut deli. A few different people told us how much they liked it, I am not a huge sandwich person but my husband is a sandwich aficionado he loves them. So one afternoon we decide to give it a try so we grab a menu turn on the table side TV to football and order a meatball sub & a caprese sandwich both warm. Hubby said it was the best one he ever had! Wow! Now I know he's had many many meatball sandwiches so that was really saying something. My caprese sandwich was on regular wheat bread toasted like a grilled cheese with fresh spinach, tomatoes and mozzarella cheese it was good. Both sandwiches were served by themselves no fries or anything but they have chips for sale as well as salad. The have self serve soda both draft & bottle beer. We were both glad we tried it out, although I thought 2 sandwiches 1 beer and 1 soda for 50 bucks was pretty high. It was fairly crowded so they do a good business. Please train the employee that worked today at 5:30 and teach him how to correctly make a sandwich and the Beach Bites. First time our meal was a failure as it's usually spot on. Today's sandwich Surfin Bird was made on day old dried out wheat roll. The sandwich fell apart and couldn't be eaten as a sandwich. What a mess! Ordered without peppers and it was made with peppers. The Beach Bites was a sloppy mess as the bread wasn't cut and the container of sauce leaked all over the bread making it a soggy mess. As our order is usually spot on I'm going to attribute tonight's meal due to a lack of training. The meal did not represent how BeachHut usually serves beautiful sandwiches and fresh food. So I beg of you ~. Please train this employee so they can make the delicious meal that we are accustomed to. read more

Great friendly service the other day! I wish I would have got the young man's name that took our order. He was amazing and patiently got all of us through the lunch line as quickly as he could. I couldn't remember when I had eaten Beach Hut Deli last! Probably circa 2018 passing through this stretch of 180-W. I've been on a hot sandwich kick lately and I was so glad I ordered the Malibu. It's probably my new favorite! I was hungier than usual and I'm glad I didn't order their small. It's one slice of bread folded in half. Pictured below is their medium Malibu. My son had their ham and cheese and like anywhere you can build your own. I don't recall the last time I spent over $10 for a sandwich, but this one was a little over $15. Their sandwiches are on the pricier side, so it's going to be a treat to have a hot sandwich here. I'll be back either in town or passing by on this highway. read more

Whoa?! Yum! I was a little shocked at first to see that every sandwich on the menu had cream cheese in it . But flipping it to the rear had more reasonable and normal choices. The prices are a little ridiculous ($30+ for two 6 inch sandwiches and a soda), but the fillings were MASSIVE and fresh! When you ask for avocado, THEY GIVE YOU AVOCADO. A LOT. On the day we visited, the toaster was down and the air conditioning wasn't working, so we weren't able to order anything hot. But the service was great/friendly, tables clean, TVs in every booth, and the food was yum. The clientele is a little shady sometimes, but if we're ever in the area, we'll probably stop by again. :) read more

This is a sliced corn beef on garlic toasted bun with A all the goodies and avocados -I was completely impressed not only with the flavor and the freshness but the amount of meat included with the sandwich. I really like their bread too, it is so soft and delicious every time I have eaten here. Fresh sandwiches made to order with so many trimmings, salads with generous ratios of toppings in relation to greens, and you can choose iceberg or romaine or spinach as your base. The place was busy when we got there. We ordered 3 sandwiches, which give generous portions, a drink and a couple of bags of chips and a beer. The bill was $45. Our food came out pretty fast, within 10 minutes. We got 2 warm sandwiches and 1 cold one. I thought my warm was was only okay, but I switched the bread to sliced from a roll and I think that made a big difference. Next time I will get a cold sando since I wasn't very impressed with my hot one. They do have my favorite VooDoo chips there, so I got a bag for the road. They serve the sandwiches on frisbees and they play reggae music, and have tvs in the booths. The owner or person working the register was really informative and friendly. I want to start with the UHMAZING Customer Service, Professionalism and the treatment of making me feel as if i was the only person being served. The gentleman (Nick) that took our order was very polite and served us with a smile on his face. Although he was wearing a mask but you could just tell by his eyes that he was smiling. We ordered 2 Skinny Dipper sandwiches, Northshore sandwich, Clam Chowder and Loaded baked potato soup. The soups were nice and hot, the Auju sauce was piping hot (like it shoule be). Let me tell you all was very, very delish !! The girls preparing our order were all awesome, great customer service and extremely professional.. A new location for this long time favorite sandwich company. Thought we would try it. All orders were tasty and well prepared. It took quite a while for the crew to prep the food, even though it wasn't crowded. I'm thinking that the crew is pretty new. Major problems with the Reuben sandwich....no sauerkraut and only wheat bread. They never told me they were out of sauerkraut and they substituted avocado? I sent an email to their website contact point letting them know they were out of sauerkraut. No response even after a week. Not good follow up for an established restaurant. Guess I will have to ask them, if I order that Reuben again. read more

The sandwich and toppings were fresh. We had one sandwich on gluten free bread. Generally the sandwiches were good. The sandwich on gluten free bread was the Drakester. It could have been a little spicer, maybe the bread would have made a difference. The surf n cow was good, maybe too much lettuce. We requested sprouts but they did not put them on the sandwich. We asked for no onions on another sandwich but they were there. The restruant was clean as were the bathrooms. The staff was friendly. Great environment with the warmest vibes! We stopped over after a weekend in Reno and were impressed with the chill, vibrant surf decorations. The employee (forgot to catch his name) was inviting with his positivity despite the fact that there were eight of us to serve. His recommendations were spot on with what I was craving and I couldn't believe how delicious the sandwich (I chose the Spicolli) and how refreshing the tropical mango lemonade was. The menu had a pretty wide variety of choices whether you crave a hot or cold sandwich, soup or salad. DO NOT SLEEP ON THE COOKIES! They are AMAZING for home baked. I purchased the black and white cookie while my friends bought the lemon drop cookie and were informed they're baked locally and delivered every other day. Ordered online 30 minutes out. we both ordered GF wraps due to diabetic restrictions. They never called to inform us that they didn't have wraps. Also wraps only come in 6" but it's not noted anywhere on the ordering app or menu. They had 30 minutes to inform us, instead we pulled off the freeway with our camper, parked a block away and walked over just to request a refund since no wraps means no food for us. Can't eat a lettuce wrap in the car...there is a supermarket right behind, go and buy some wraps if you run out! funny story, we decided to give them another shot and went to the bowman location instead. Stopped here on my way back from Donner State Park camping. So far, by far, the best sandwich shop experience I've had yet. We stopped in this Beach Hut on the way home from Truckee because it was getting late and I knew I wanted a big sandwich. This spot is a bit tricky to find because there appears to be a new traffic circle nearby that gps doesn't know what to do with. And, in order to get into this parking lot you have to drive down a SUPER steep hill. BUT the struggle is worth it because it was definitely a very solid Beach Hut. The owner is super friendly and chatted with us as we decided what to get. Once we did decide what to get and placed our order our food came out SUPER fast, which definitely isn't always the case with Beach Hut. On top of that this restaurant was super well maintained. Even though it was the end of what seemed to be a busy day, it was spotless on the interior. All and all, this was a great spot and well worth the stop on the way down the mountain! read more

I was driving through Colfax on my way home from Reno with my family, when we stopped to grab a bite to eat, not realizing the entire town had no power (PG&E shutdown due to high winds). Ky, the owner, had his grill out and was feeding folks, selling steak sandwiches and burgers for $5! I had made a comment about how it was cool he stayed open, and his response was "I have a town of 2000 to feed!" Power shut offs during fire season is becoming our new reality in California, but Ky's fun loving attitude and love for his town and the people in it, and even those passing through, reminds me that the world doesn't suck because there are still really good people around! And let me not forget to mention that the steak sandwich that he Que'd up was BOMB!! We will definitely be back next time we head up to and home from Reno!
