Eggs, potatoes, biscuit

It is clean inside with good seating. I like the wood decor and cushions and tables are in good shape. The food and service is also good. We had a party of 7, and everyone enjoyed their food. I had the garden burger, and my wife had eggs and potatoes.

I've arrived at Lumberjacks, in Grass Valley, to enjoy one of the best breakfasts in the Sierra Nevada foothills.

Lumberjacks is a small chain of eight restaurants, with seven of them located in Northern California, and a lone outpost located in Las Vegas. The name fits the restaurant, as the generous portions will keep a lumberjack, along with a football linebacker, full and happy. Can you say "rustic?" ... rustic is the word for the decor of the restaurant, as the decor revolves around a lumberjack theme. The decor is rustic, the cuisine is "Diner Americana," but the dining room is inviting, clean and comfortable. The dining room carries out the rustic, lumberjack theme, as it's decorated with faux logs and wood paneling, which enhances the atmosphere. Period photos, along with state-of-the-art video monitors decorate the walls. Love it!! From the "Weekday Specials" menu, I went with a New York steak, hashbrown potatoes, fried eggs, sourdough toast, and an optional side of breakfast. Yowza!!! My last breakfast of 2024 turned out to be one of the best breakfasts that I'd the pleasure to enjoy during the entire year. Thanks to Ashley, Lindsay and the friendly and talented staff at Lumberjacks, located in Grass Valley. The "Weekday Specials" aren't listed on the menu, nor are they posted on a chalk board, and they're offered to you by your server, as you're greeted at your table. Yes, I looked over the menu, but a New York steak breakfast, cooked to order, sounded out like a great way to say adios to 2024. As per my order, my steak arrived cooked medium rare, complete with attractive grill marks. As explained by my server, the steak was "breakfast sized" around 6-oz or so... but size didn't matter, as this steak was not only attractive to look at, but it was seasoned, juicy, tender and simply delicious. Lumberjacks is a well kept secret for gold country dining, as they make a superior breakfast steak! My side of choice was hashbrown potatoes, and I made a superior choice, as these hashbrowns were some of the best I've ever enjoyed in Nevada County dining! The potatoes were shredded - naturally - and fried to a perfect golden brown, crispy on the outside, and tender on the inside, which made for some of the most perfect hashbrowns that you could ever imagine. The two eggs were fried as per my order, sunnyside up, which works well with hashbrown potatoes. Two slices of sourdough toast were perfectly toasted, buttered, and worked with the breakfast. The optional side of breakfast gravy really added "the period to the sentence," as it was thick, creamy, with chunky sausage and simply delicious. I alternated between dipping bits of steak and potato into the gravy... whatever the case, it made for an amazing add-on to enhance this superior breakfast. Happy New Year... well... almost, but the check for this amazing breakfast came to... get this... $12.79! That's right... steak, eggs, and an optional side of gravy. I was dazzled, amazed and shocked... as I expected well on the high side of $20.00. My dining experience on this last day of 2024 was simply amazing! Lindsay and Ashley treated my like family, and I enjoyed a "New York Steak of the Century" breakfast, to "ace out" the year 2024, which has been a fantastic year for Gold Country Dining. Nevada County dining at the finest... Lumberjacks... located in Grass Valley, CA! As the menu reads... "Where the big boys eat..." And... if I may add... it's FIVE STAR DINING!!!!

Great meal. Great price. It's worth waiting a few minutes to get your food. Place is pretty busy on the weekend. We will be back.

If we lived closer we'd end up as regulars here, but we'll definitely return on random weekends (and making reservations next time.) The feel of the place has a grotto and barn type of vibe. We'll check out the outdoor seating next time. There was nothing on the menu that disappoints so far. We look forward to exploring more (the duck wings will make a repeat appears for us.) This is a fun balance of higher end dining and multi regional creativity that we really enjoyed. The mix of high and low is something we explore a lot in our own kitchen, so we welcome that energy when dining out.

Food: The food was delectable. We did two raw bar items, a starter and our mains. We were very hungry, so it was the perfect amount. They have a super curated wine list, and we got a Pinot Noir from Santa Maria Valley that was excellent. The short rib poutine was SO amazing and I loved my duck. Ambiance: Great, cozy vibe with lot of brick. Bustling but not too loud. We were kind of tucked at a table without a ton of room around it, so that was a little awkward to wiggle into. But overall, if you're in Nevada City, this is definitely where you want to go for a special dinner!

Our second visit here & the four of us enjoyed our breakfast…read more Busy place on a Sunday morning and about a 20 minute wait. Started with a Cappuccino & a Mocoa, both were hot, delicious and not overly sweet. I had the full order of Lobster Eggs Benedict. Eggs cooked as ordered, generous amount of lobster, Jalapeno holidase, avocado ,crunchy well seasoned country potatoes, filling rich and satisfying, dusted off the whole thing. Mrs D had the Corn Cakes, substituted chicken sausage for the hot links with eggs over easy. The Corn Cakes were similar to potato Pan cakes, slightly garlicy with a spicy aioli sauce. Well executed and she loved it. Even though they were at full capacity the service was top notch and all the employees we encountered were smiling and helpful.

Lobster sandwich was not great with melted cheese to hide the fact. My $35 bill was not worth a local lager, side salad and half a sandwich I ate. Now, if you want breakfast from what I saw coming out of kitchen Benedict's and their special Dubai French toast looked fire.

We called right away, and while the employee apologized and admitted it was their mistake, the only solution offered was to "take it off the bill." That doesn't really help when you've already driven 30 minutes home and now have an incomplete meal. Mistakes happen, but how they're handled matters. Offering a refund doesn't fix the inconvenience, the time lost, or the fact that part of our dinner was missing. A better effort to make it right would have gone a long way. We didn't just lose money...We lost time, convenience, and part of your meal. A manager should have gotten on the phone and said something like, 'I'm really sorry, we messed up. Let me fix this for you.' A sincere effort to problem-solve, not just a refund. Really hoping more attention is paid to orders moving forward.
